Anna Masse

MERIDEN -- Anna Saleski Masse, 94, joined her husband, the late Laurence Philip Masse in the Kingdom of our Lord on Tuesday, June 25, 2002. Anna passed away at the Meriden Center, which she had called "home" for the past five years.

Anna was born in Tracy on Nov. 4, 1907, a daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Zalewski. She had been a Meriden resident for most of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church of Meriden and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society.

She is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Claire Masse, Dolores Mazza and her husband, Salvatore, Vivian Mahoney and her husband, Brian and Barbara Masse; eight cherished grandchildren, Larry, Catherine, Thomas and Jeffrey Mazza, Kate Madera, Brian Mahoney, Maureen Owen, Colleen Engel; and three treasured great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Corinne White and Justin Mazza; she is also survived by two beloved sisters, Veronica Norrie and Theresa Fernandez; and a sister-in-law, Mary Saleski; a brother, Peter Saleski and his wife, JoAnn, with whom she shared a special bond; she also leaves numerous nieces, nephews; and long time family friends. Besides her husband, Anna was predeceased by five brothers, William, Stanley, Joseph, John and Edward Saleski; and two sisters, Cecelia Kane and Mary Osiecki.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden with Rev. Joseph Pulaski M.M. officiating. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Because of the care and love shown to her during her years at the Meriden Center, in lieu of flowers, if friends desire contributions in her memory may be made to the Meriden Center Residential Social Event Fund, 845 Paddock Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

Robert S. Mencarini

MERIDEN -- Robert S. Mencarini, 71, of 37 Rem Drive, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in the Hartford Hospital.

He was born in Meriden, Jan. 4, 1931, a son of the late Luigi and Gaetana Vitale Mencarini, he was a lifelong resident. Bob attended high school at the Newington Home for Children and graduated Valedictorian of his class. He continued his education at Morse College in pursuit of an accounting career. Mr. Mencarini was a partner in the accounting firm of Mencarini-Albano for many years. He eventually became associated with New Horizons Inc., a Farmington based residential and educational facility for the physically disabled, where he served as Chief Accountant and Chairman of the Board of Directors for several years. As Chairman, Bob was instrumental in the financing and construction of New Horizons Village in Farmington, as well as Cherry Brook Health Care Center in Canton. Mr. Mencarini has been an inspirational leader of the New Horizons Community. He was extremely well respected by the staff of New Horizons and absolutely revered by the disabled members. Bob's actual service to the residents transcended his official responsibilities in that he served as friend and mentor to many. Upon his retirement, Mr. Mencarini continued to serve as an active member of the Board of Directors of New Horizons and was currently serving as vice chairman of the Board as well. As chairman of an ad HOC Committee, providing a clear vision for the future of the organization. Bob had been a member of the Unison Club of Meriden, and avid Yankee Fan and sports enthusiast, and a skilled care player. Bob Mencarini will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph S. and Patricia Mencarini Sr. of Meriden; one nephew, Joseph S. Mencarini Jr. of Cheshire; and a niece, Lauren M. Mencarini, also of Meriden; he leaves several friends including, Dan Davieau of Farmington, Alan and Diane Schutz of Southington; as well as many cousins and relatives.

All are invited to his funeral service at 9:45 a.m. Friday, June 28, in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, with his Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. He will be buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit in the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Sophie Sheptock

WALLINGFORD -- Sophie Siedlicki Sheptock, 78, of Colonial Lane, Wallingford, beloved wife of John Sheptock, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, her residence.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 139 N. Orchard St., Wallingford on Saturday, June 29, at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Leukemia Society of America, 300 Research Parkway, Suite 310, Meriden 06450 or to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford.

Elizabeth C. Fitzgerald

GROTON -- Elizabeth C. Fitzgerald, 94, passed away Friday, May 31, 2002, formerly of Cheshire. Born April 4, 1908, widow of the late Harold Fitzgerald.

She is survived by a daughter, Joan Santoro of Groton; two sons, John of Texas and Maurice Fitzgerald of Vermont; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Interment to be held Saturday, June 29, at Sacred Heart Cemetery Chapel, Meriden, with burial immediately following.

Vicki Ann Ford

CHESHIRE -- Vicki Ann (MacLellan) Ford, 59, of Cheshire, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at her home.

Vicki was born Jan. 7, 1943, in New Haven, a daughter of Edson James and the late Annette (Priaulx) MacLellan, and lived in Cheshire for the past 32 years. Vicki was a graduate of Hillhouse High School and Cosmetology School in New Haven. She continued her education in New York. She was employed as a hairdresser at Jackie's Hair Design in Cheshire.

She leaves a son, Thomas C. Ford of Cheshire; a daughter, Jill, and her husband, Michael Michaud of Cheshire; a brother, James MacLellan of Clinton; and a granddaughter, Kiarra Anne Michaud of Cheshire. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles H. MacLellan.

Funeral Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., Cheshire. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, 50 Brookside Drive, Waterbury, CT 06708.

Pasquale S. Guidone

HAMDEN -- Pasquale S. Guidone, 95, of Whitney Manor, formerly of Shelton Ave., New Haven, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002. He was the widower of Mary Guidone.

He was born in New Haven, March 31, 1907, the son of the late Louis and Rosaria Carangelo Guidone, and was a maintenance engineer for Yale-New Haven Hospital.

He is survived by sons, John L. (Lorraine) Guidone of Orange and Robert N. Guidone of Meriden; brother of Laura Gianotti of Hamden, Grace Jones of Texas , Frank Guidone of Hamden, Joseph Guidone of North Haven and the late Carmine Guidone; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may call Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Alberta M. Lappert

CHESHIRE -- Mrs. Alberta M. (Lester) Lappert, 83, of 440 James Drive, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at the Masonic Geriatric Care Center, Wallingford. She was the widow of Ernest Alan Lappert.

Mrs. Lappert was born Nov. 6, 1918, in Meriden, daughter of the late Henry and Susan (Mosier) Lester. She had resided in Cheshire for the past 22 years, previously living in Southington. Mrs. Lappert was a ceramics instructor and taught for over 30 years in her home. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lodge, a member of the Order of Amaranth, Westwood Court No. 5 and a member of the Ceramics Guild.

She leaves a son, Alan W. Lappert and a daughter, Dianne Mrozowski, both of Cheshire; seven grandchildren, David Modica, Lisa Modica, Dorianne Walker, Brian Lappert, Alan Lappert Jr., Michelle Lappert and Lenice Dinda; and seven great-grandchildren, Anthony Nollen Jr., Nicole Walker, Savannah Lappert, Spencer Lappert, Bryan Lappert, Chase Lappert and Aidan Holroyd (to be born). She was predeceased by a brother, Francis Plunske; and a sister, Mary Edwards.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Alderson Funeral Home, 615 S. Main St., Cheshire, at 11 a.m. Calling hours from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden.

Naomi Orsie

SOUTHINGTON -- Naomi "Lee" Orsie, 87, formerly of Stonehedge Road, Westbrook, died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at Southington Care Center. She was the widow of Louis W. Orsie.

Born in New Britain on May 19, 1915, the daughter of the late Harry and Rose (Kindelin) Herman. Prior to her retirement in 1980, she was employed by the former Emhart in Berlin for 35 years. Mrs. Orsie was a member and former president of the Columbitts, she was vice president of the Emblem Club, a leader of friendship tours she taught line dancing and was a member of the Sassy Seniors, a member of the Westbrook Elks Lodge, the St. Paul's Ladies Guild and a member of the Welcome Club of Old Saybrook.

She is survived by three daughters, Patricia and her husband, Leo Dowd of Plantsville, Gail Tino of Meriden and Louise and her husband, William Thaden of Maine; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Thomas Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in West Lane Cemetery in Kensington. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mary Benzie

HARTFORD - Mary Massey Benzie of Avery Heights, Hartford, died in her home on Thursday, June 13, 2002.

Born on the fourth of July 1914, she was predeceased by her husband, James; and a grandson, Aaron Benzie. A member of the Congregational Church of Oxford for many years. Presently a member of the United Church of Christ in Newington. A member of the Historical Society of Early American Decorating. A teacher of this art for many years.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Poole of Shoreham, N.Y., James Arthur Benzie of Danielson and Robert Benzie of Hartford; the loving Nana to 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at her daughter's house on Long Island on her birthday, July 4th and burial at the Quasset Cemetery in South Woodstock, on July 14. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden is handling the arrangements.
