Salvatore F. Esposito
VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Salvatore F. Esposito, 81 of Vero Beach, Fla., died suddenly, Friday, June 28, 2002 at Indian River Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Esposito was born March 6, 1921 in New Haven. He has been a resident of Vero Beach, Fla., for one year, moving from Cheshire. He was in the Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach, Fla.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Lucille Esposito; three sons, Robert Esposito and Frank Esposito, both of Vero Beach, Fla., and Rick Esposito of Wallingford; two brothers, Ronald Esposito of East Haven, Frank Esposito of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Phyllis Farricielli of Cape Coral, Fla., and Beatrice McAviney of Cheshire; and five grandchildren.
There will be no visitation or services held. Memorials contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 237 E. Marks St., Orlando, Fla. 32803-3818 in Mr. Esposito's memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Guilford Funeral Home, Vero Beach, Fla.
Paul Plourde
MERIDEN -- Paul Plourde, beloved husband of Mary Plourde, passed away Monday, July 1, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.
Born in Jackman, Maine on June 30, 1923, he was the son of the late Louise and Henry Plourde. Mr. Plourde was well known in the area as he operated a contracting company until he retired in 1991. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 13th Airborne and a member of the VFW Post 9965, Yalesville, the French Club of Bristol and the AARP.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he leaves a son, Craig Plourde of Meriden; two daughters, Karen Ouellette and Camille Graziano, both of Bristol; three brothers, Richard Plourde of Southington, Dean Plourde of Terryville and Cecil Plourde of Bristol; a sister, Zelma Stark of Plymouth; two grandchildren, Jennifer DeMaio and Rob Ouellette, both of Bristol; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Maxine Frenette of Bristol; and a brother, Norman Plourde of Presque Isle, Maine.
The funeral with military honors, will be held on Wednesday, July 3, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, South Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Holy Angels Church, 915 Main St., S. William A. Staszewski
MERIDEN -- William A. Staszewski, 73, of Paddock Ave., died on Monday, July 1, 2002 at Meriden Center.
Born in Meriden on Nov. 17, 1928, the son of the late Anthony Staszewski and Louise (Hyde) Staszewski, he had resided in Meriden his entire life and graduated from Meriden schools. Mr. Staszewski was employed by Talcott Screw Machine Company until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Air Force, a parishioner of St. Mary Church, and a former member of Civil Air Patrol.
He is survived by one daughter, Pam LaForge of Meriden; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bruce and Tammy Staszewski of Wallingford and Gary Staszewski of Middletown; two grandchildren, Kimberly and Douglas LaForge; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Gerald Raby of South Meriden and Laurie and Jack Winarski of Kensington; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Anne Staszewski of Venice, Fla., George and Patricia Staszewski of Meriden and Richard Staszewski and Jerry Staszewski, both of Meriden; two special uncles, Frank Hyde and William Hyde, both of Meriden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Miglietta.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 3, at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Church. Burial with military honors will be in CT State Veterans' Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
Bertha B. Wilhelm
HAMDEN -- Bertha Bredickas Wilhelm, 93, wife of the late Clinton R. Wilhelm of 84 Fennbrook Drive, Hamden died at her home, Sunday, June 30, 2002.
She was the grandmother of Dency Kane of New York City; step-mother of Virginia Harshbarger of Bloomfield; sister of Victor Bredickas of Downington, Pa., and Edward Bredickas of Cheshire; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was born in Shenandoah, Pa., March 20, 1909, daughter of the late George and Victoria Zrumidn Bredickas. She was President and CEO of the former Wilhelm-Davies Inc. of Wallingford.
Funeral service Wednesday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Anna Charpentier
WALLINGFORD -- Anna Charpentier, 86, of the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, formerly of 199 Grieb Road, died Tuesday, July, 2, 2002 at CT Hospice in Branford. She was the wife of the late Christopher R. Charpentier.
She was born in Wallingford, Sept. 7, 1915, a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Anna Kicas Klish Sr. Until her retirement, she was a piece worker at the Stanley - Judd Company. Mrs. Charpentier was a life-long resident of Wallingford.
She is survived by a son, Lawrence C. Charpentier of Connecticut; a daughter, Beverly King of Wallingford; four grandchildren, Angela Matarazzo and Robert Woronick Jr., both of Wallingford, Debra Strickland of Amston and Christina Lemay of Cheshire; and four great-grandchildren, Nikki Matarazzo, Isabella Matarazzo, Cassandra Strickland and Tyler Strickland. She was predeceased by brother, Joseph J. Klish Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Cecil C. Currier
MERIDEN -- Cecil "Tom" C. Currier, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at a Presque Isle Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1932 in Mars Hill, Maine, the son of the late Charles and Georgia "Dolly" (Nadeau) Currier. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Currier had been employed by American Cyanamid Company in Wallingford.
He is survived by one son, Tom Currier of Indiana; two daughters, Debra Currier of Sunnyvale, Texas and Dawn Wolff of Garland, Texas ; three grandchildren; one sister, Gloria McPherson and her husband, Elvin "Chick" of Mapleton, Maine; three nephews, Charles "CP" Currier III, Jimmy Perkins and Ervin "Perk" Perkins; three nieces, Gloria, Debbie and Jan. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Currier.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Marshall Cemetery, Westfield, Maine with President Brent Williams of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints officiating. Those who wish may donate in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, 04086-1240. Daniel DeJohn
SOUTHINGTON -- Daniel DeJohn, 88, of 1603 Meriden Ave., died Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Kathleen K. DeJohn and the late Eleanor (Wassong) DeJohn.
Born in Waterbury, the son of the late Pasquale and Lucy (Galente) DeGiovanni on Nov. 14, 1913. He had been employed by Pratt & Whitney in Southington and retired in 1980 from H. Wales Lines Co., where he had worked as a truck driver. He was a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ronald DeJohn and Wayne DeJohn, both of Southington; a step-son, Scott Kuhta of Meriden; three brothers, Ralph DeJohn of Bristol, Richard DeJohn of Waterbury, Robert DeJohn of Fla.; four grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret DeSanto, Antoinette Galgano and Elizabeth Fuhrs.
The funeral will be held on Friday, July 5, at 11 a.m. at Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage St. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southinton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Richard H. Packard
PITTSTON, Maine -- Richard H. Packard, 74, of Route 27, Pittston, Maine, died Monday, July 1, 2002 at the Maine General Medical Center in Waterville, Maine.
He was born in Lewiston, Maine on Oct. 19, 1928, the son of Harold F. and Jeannette Biron Packard. A graduate of Edward Little High School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Richard had been a 30 year firefighter for the City of Wallingford, retiring in 1992. He was an avid golfer before his illness and an avid Bass fisherman. He caught what he and his friends considered to the State record. He was an all round outdoorsman. His dog Freckles was his special love. He will always be remembered for his jokes, stories, sense of humor and his ultimate optimism. All will sadly miss him.
He is survived by his cousins, Joseph and Suzanne Ciampa of Farmingdale, Maine, Arline Hodson and her special friend, Jerry, her sons, Gary and Mark of Sabbatus, Maine; several cousins in Connecticut and Maine; and special friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Harold Packard of Mechanic Falls, Maine.
A committal service with military honors will be held Wednesday, July 10, at 11 a.m. in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery

Raymond A. Shampang
DURHAM -- Raymond Austin Shampang, a distinguished automobile enthusiast, who worked as a construction worker and for many decades on Model A Fords (his passion) passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2002 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a hard and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Aug. 13, 1942, Ray grew up in Rocky Hill, lived in Durham with his family and since 1993 had lived in Meriden. He attended Hartford Regional Tech. Son of Edith Robinson Shampang of Wethersfield and the late Joseph Austin Shampang.
He leaves his two children, a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Rachel Shampang and their children, Ray-Ray, Molly and Jacob of Cheshire; a daughter and son-in-law, Bridgett Shampang-Adams and Raymond Adams Jr. and their son, Justin Adams of Durham; a former wife, MaryAnn Maura Shampang of Durham; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Forgetta of Wethersfield; a twin brother and his wife, Robert and Nancy Shampang of Rocky Hill; three nieces; he also leaves a dear friend and companion of many years, Linda Smith, who stood by his side; and his beloved dog, Nora, whom he took everywhere with him.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to work on his automobiles, garden, flowering plants and attend any swap meet, car show, or car cruise with his children that he could. Raymond Shampang's presence and spirit will live on in the places he frequented and loved the most. He will be deeply missed by all whose lived he touched.
At Ray's request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 5, at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 111 Church St., Cheshire. Private burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. A special thanks to all the staff at Hospice who helped our dad. You have all been remarkable and have helped ease the pain.
