Eloise Chandonnet

NAPLES, Fla. -- Eloise Smith Chandonnet, 93, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2002, at the Chateau at Moorings Park in Florida where she had been a resident. She was the wife for 11 years of the late Armand Chandonnet and the wife for 52 years of the late Dudley H. Smith.

Born in Brookline, Mass., May 23, 1909, she moved to Naples in 1968 from Southington, where she had been a longtime resident. Eloise was a member of Moorings Presbyterian Church in Florida.

She is survived by two sons, Roland Smith and his wife, Judy of Wolcott, Richard Smith and his wife, Lee of Marion; her daughter-in-law, Margaret, loving wife of her son, Philip Smith, who predeceased her. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in South End Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., in Plantsville has been entrusted with arrangements.

Arvida Disereits

MERIDEN -- Arvida Disereits, 80, of 124 S. Colony St., passed peacefully July 5, 2002, at MidState Medical Center.

Born July 20, 1921 in Ropaza, Latvia. She made the United States her home in 1952. She was a devoted employee of J.B. Coggins for approximately 25 years from which she retired.

She is survived by her lifelong companion of 45 years, Adam Krainevs; her daughter, Astrida Gerry; her son and daughter-in-law, Vitauts and Wanda Disereits; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Gotfrids Ositis. She was predeceased by her son, Ivars Disereits; and daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Don Webb.

Arrangements are under the direction of Shaker Funeral Home in New Britain, Conn. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Warren J. Dittmer

MERIDEN -- Warren J. Dittmer, 81, of 360 Broad St., died Friday, July 5, 2002, at MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Grace Cichowski Dittmer.

He was born in Meriden, May 28, 1921, a son of the late Edward and Gertrude Swinden Dittmer. He graduated from Meriden High School and the Curtis Wright Institute in Glendale, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in England during World War II. He worked for 42 years as a shipping clerk at New Departure until his retirement in 1981. He belonged to the 452nd Bomb Group Assoc. and the 8th Air Force Historical Assoc.

He is survived by a daughter, Joan S. Kilby of Meriden; a sister, Joyce Colle of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Dittmer, Raymond Dittmer; and two sisters, Audrey Tomasino and Shirley Turner.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave, #104, Hamden, CT 06518.

Ida M. Hennessey

MERIDEN -- Ida M. Hennessey, 96, of Curtis Street, widow of Mark J. Hennessey, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Masonic Home after a brief illness.

She was born on June 12, 1906 in Green Bay, Wis. She was a lifelong resident of Meriden. Mrs. Hennessey was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.

She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Marie Hennessey Arnold of Chicago, Ill., Doris Hennessey Peczynski of Meriden and Margaret Hennessey Gill and her husband, Frank of Denver, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and many nephews; and many beloved friends.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be held on Monday, July 8, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Elizabeth M. LeBlanc

WALLINGFORD --Elizabeth M. Dudier LeBlanc, 91, of South Colony St., died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at the Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center of Meriden.

Born in Canada, Dec. 25, 1910, she had been a Wallingford resident for 73 years. She was employed by the former Stanley Judd Company in Wallingford for over 40 years until her retirement.

She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Dolores and Francis Woods of Wallingford, Elizabeth Brandl and her fiancé, Ray Gillis of Meriden; her son, Leo LeBlanc of Wallingford; her six grandchildren, William Murdy Jr., Richard Brandl Jr., Derek Woods, Mara Lee Mahalik, Michelle Wooding, and Danielle O'Connell; nine great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Mary Cormier of Gardner, Mass. and Margaret Dudier of Canada; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a great-great-grandson; a sister; and four brothers.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Wallingford Funeral Home, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, South Central CT Chapter, 2911 Dixwell Ave., #104, Hamden, CT 06518.

Helen A. Palermo

WALLINGFORD -- Helen Afragola Palermo, 85, of East Main Street, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph F. Palermo Jr.

Born in New Haven, Aug. 28, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Alphonse and Michelina Cretella Afragola and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and was a member of the Wallingford Senior Center.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph F. Palermo III and Lorraine Tartaglia Palermo, Alan M. Palermo and Katherine Gopoian Palermo and Roger P. Palermo, and Suzanne Galipeau Palermo, all of Wallingford; seven grandchildren, Stephen M. Palermo, Michael P. Palermo, Aaron M. Palermo, Alana M. Palermo, Avian M. Palermo, Lisa J. Palermo, and Matthew P. Palermo; two great-grandchildren, Alexander Palermo and Vincent Palermo; three sisters, Louis DeMatteis and Grace Afragola of North Haven, and Ann Ursini of Hamden; two brothers, Frank Afragola and Ralph Afragola of Florida; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Barone and Rose Malaro; and a brother, Constantina Afragola.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will be in the Garden Mausoleum in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Most Holy Trinity Church Preservation Project, 68 No. Colony St., Wallingford, CT 06492.

John E. Hayden

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. -- John E. "Skip" Hayden, 47, of S. Lee Court, Merritt Island, Fla., formerly of Wallingford, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 21, 2002. He was the loving husband of Frances Hayden.

He was born in New Haven, July 22, 1954, a son of Carol A. Valentine Hayden of Wallingford and the late Hugh F. Hayden. He was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School, and was a star athlete having achieved All-Housy status in 1972. He attended Choate School as a post graduate student and attended the University of Rhode Island. Skip was a master machinist with 30 years in the trade, working in the family business before moving to Florida. He was employed by Professional Aircraft Accessories Inc. of Titusville. Skip was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time on his boat "My Honey" named for his wife.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by his sister, Donna A. Citak and her husband, Mike; his brother, Patrick V. Hayden and his fiancé, Belinda Curtiss, all of Wallingford; his sister, Debra A. Ciochetti and her husband, Paul of Middlebury. He was the loving stepfather of Barbara Bosco, Edward Bosco and Dolores Vincent; and grandfather of Susan M. Bosco, Sarah L. Bosco, Samantha Leonard and Michael Bosco. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

To all his friends, Skip would want to be remembered for who he was and what he stood for as a stand up guy, a man of his word, someone you could count on. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Memorial services will be held Thursday evening in the Wallingford Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Interment will be private. Barbara A. Martino

WALLINGFORD -- Barbara A. Martino, 60, of Brookview Avenue, moved on to see her heavenly father on July 7, 2002, at Elim Park Baptist Home, in Cheshire, after a long and courageous fight with cancer. She was the beloved wife for 42 years of Ernest A. Martino Sr.

Born in New Haven, Dec. 9, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Antoinette Schetino Palmieri, and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She had been employed with the Food Service Department of the Wallingford Board of Education for several years.

Besides her husband, Ernest, she is survived by her two wonderful sons and delightful daughters-in-law, Ernest A. Martino Jr. and Kathryn L. Martino of Meriden, and Chris Martino and Regina Martino of Middlefield; one very special granddaughter, Victoria Martino; and her brother, Francis Palmieri of Hamden. She will be greatly missed by all.

Her family will receive relative and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford Tuesday, from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Wallingford Funeral Home, Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Hospice and Palliative Care of CT, 33 North Plains Industrial Rd., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Ernest R. Bellante Jr.

MERIDEN -- Ernest R. Bellante Jr., 67, of Wilbur Ave., husband of Elizabeth (DeAntonio) Bellante passed away peacefully Thursday, July 4, 2002 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends.

Mr. Bellante was born in Meriden, May 1, 1935, a son of the late Ernest and Emma Franco Bellante; he is survived by a step-son, Vincent Grillo and his wife, Louise; a step-daughter, Brenda Lampi and her husband, Arvid; and a son, Jay Bellante of Florida.

Mr. Bellante's funeral will be private and his burial will be at the convenience of the his family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.
