Maria H. Mielke

MERIDEN -- Maria H. Mielke, 53, wife of David J. Mielke, of 267 Swain Ave., died surrounded by her family Monday, July 15, 2002 in the Connecticut Hospice, Branford.

She was born in Central Falls, R.I., Oct. 20, 1948, the daughter of Eleuterio H. and Lidia Fonseca Neves of Wallingford. She was a Meriden resident for many years. She was the director of the St. John's Pre-School for the past 17 years. She was a graduate of Annhearst University and received her Masters from Southern Connecticut State University. She had taught at Sheehan High School prior to her position at St. John's.

Besides her husband and parents, survivors include her two sons, Jeffrey and Thomas Mielke, both of Meriden.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service with a Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Thursday, July 18, at 10 a.m. She will be entombed in the Mausoleum of Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Her family respectfully requests with grateful appreciation for the difficult work they do. That contributions be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.

Violet G. Prahovic

WALLINGFORD -- Violet G. Prahovic, 87, beloved wife of Frank Prahovic of Putter Drive, Wallingford, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 in the Regency House of Wallingford.

A complete obituary will appear in the Wednesday's edition of the Record-Journal. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford.

Bette M. Ritchie

CROMWELL -- Bette M. Ritchie, 73, of 35 Reilly Manor, Cromwell, formerly of 111 Newton St., Meriden, wife of the late Arthur W. Ritchie, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, July 15, 2002.

Born in Presque Isle, Maine on July 28, 1928, she had resided in Meriden since 1946. Mrs. Ritchie was employed by Pratt & Whitney for 43 years, retiring in 1991. She was a parishioner of the First United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener and loved the beach.

She is survived by three sons, Wallace Ritchie and his wife, Debbie of Daytona Beach, Fla.; Kevin Ritchie and MaryAnn Peruta of Meriden; and Barry Ritchie and his wife, Diane of Meriden; eight grandchildren, Kirsten, Keegan, Kyla, Killian, Jay, Jamie, Jaclyn and Nicole; one great-grandchild, Jayden; special people in her life, Ursula, Lolly and Gary; and her dog, Daisy.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 18, at 10 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden with the Rev. Alden Barnes officiating. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Grace A. Suchy

WALLINGFORD -- Grace Ann Neilander Suchy, 39, of Wharton Brook Drive, Wallingford, died Saturday, July 13, 2002 at her residence.

Born in Meriden, Nov. 4, 1962, she was the daughter of Joyce Olive of Meriden and Darrell Neilander of Caribou, Maine, she had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She was a member of Connecticut TOPS No. 9 and Narcotics Anonymous.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Suchy of Guilford; her son, Johnathan Butler of Wallingford; her sister, Robin M. Nelson of Meriden; her two brothers and sister-in-law, Darrell and Jen Neilander of Wallingford and Edmond Neilander of Meriden; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Dawn Neilander Robinson; and a brother, Michael Neilander.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday from 4 to 7:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Wallingford Funeral Home, Tuesday at 8 p.m. Interment will be private.

Margarita Vecchitto

MERIDEN -- Margarita Vecchitto, 82, of 65 Westfield Road, died Monday, July 15, 2002 in the Westfield Care and Rehab Center.

She was born in Meriden, Nov. 17, 1919, a daughter of the late Sebastiano and Maria Gulitto Vecchitto. She was a lifelong resident. She retired from the International Silver Co., in 1982 after 35 years of employment. She was a member of the Holy Angels Young at Heart, she also enjoyed travel and cooking. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lucia and George McMahon and Philomena Thompson, all of Meriden; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Elma Vecchitto, Anthony and Mary Vecchitto, James and Arlene Vecchitto, all of Meriden and Joseph and Elizabeth Vecchitto of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Mario and Frank Vecchitto.

All are invited to her funeral service Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She will be interred in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.

Michael J. Beaulieu Sr.

SOUTHINGTON -- Michael J. Beaulieu Sr., 48, of Old Turnpike Road in Southington died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 28 years of Roberta "Bunny" Golyshko Beaulieu.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Aug. 2, 1953, he was the son of the late Norman Sr. and Betty Scolari Beaulieu. Michael had been a Southington resident for the past 25 years. He was a longtime employee of Bozzuto's of Cheshire and was the Commissioner of the Southington Midget Football League for almost 20 years.

In addition to his wife, Bunny, Michael was the loving father of Michael Beaulieu Jr. and Jade and Michael Testa, all of Southington; his three grandchildren, Preston, Paris and Portia will remember him as their "poppy;" he also leaves his two brothers, Norman Beaulieu of East Hartford and Daniel Beaulieu of Windsor; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, William and Jean Golyshko of Southington; as well as a large extended family.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations in memory of Michael may be made to the Michael J. Beaulieu Sr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Southington Savings Bank, 121 Main St., Southington, CT 06489.

Jayne Fisher

WALLINGFORD -- Jayne Tierney Fisher, 78, of Garden City, N.Y., formerly of Christian St., Wallingford, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at the Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, N.Y. She was the wife of the late Charles H. Fisher.

Born in Meriden, Feb. 26, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. Tierney Sr., and the late Elizabeth J. Condon Tierney, and had been a Garden City resident for 46 years. She was a graduate of Holy Trinity School, Lyman Hall High School, Catholic University and the Providence School of Nursing, both in Washington D.C. A Registered Nurse, she was an instructor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport and had been a Supervisor of the Paraplegic Unit at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bronx, N.Y., for several years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Garden City; a member of the St Joseph's Rosary and Altar Societies, a member of the Community Club of Garden City, and the Nassau County Homemakers Council, Garden City Chapter.

She is survived by her two sisters and brother-in-law, Rosemary Tierney Gaisford and John Gaisford, of Harwichport, Mass., and Barbara A. Tierney of Cheshire; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles A. Tierney Jr. and Eileen M. Tierney of Wallingford; her five nieces; five nephews; and 15 grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 noon. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to Holy Trinity School, 11 North Whittlesey Ave., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Violet Prahovic

WALLINGFORD -- Violet "Betty" Gilbert Prahovic, 87, of Putter Drive, Wallingford, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, in the Regency House of Wallingford. She was the beloved wife of Frank J. Prahovic.

Born in Mystic, Oct. 13, 1914, a daughter of the late William and Katherine Beebe Gilbert, she was a resident of East Haven for many years before moving to Wallingford eight years ago. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 89 of East Haven.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Prahovic is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Robert Arledge of McLean, Va., and Janice and Mark Chutick of Chatsworth, Calif.; her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Virginia Lasko of Annapolis, Md.; and her grandchildren, Jennifer Lasko-Allen, Michael King and J. Philip King.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services and interment in All Saint's Cemetery in North Haven will be private.

Richard F. Hicks

MERIDEN -- Richard F. Hicks, 74, of Holiday, Florida, loving husband of 54 years of Jeannette Goss Hicks, passed away peacefully, at his home on Thursday, July 4, 2002.

Born in Meriden, Sept. 12, 1927, he was a son of the late Sylvester and Jessie Brown Hicks, and had been a lifelong resident of Meriden until moving to Florida 2 years ago. He was a member of the Meriden Police for several years and was employed by the Meriden Auction Rooms as a furniture refinisher for many years until his retirement. He was a US Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.

Besides his wife Jeannette, he is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Cecile Leiblein of Holiday, FL, and Jeannette and Kenneth Hartline of Wallingford, his four grandchildren, his three great-grandchildren; his brother, Everett Hicks, of Simi Valley, CA, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter and three sisters.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, at 11 a.m. in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. Arrangements are under the direction of the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford.

Katherine E. Kearney

MERIDEN -- Katherine E. "Mickey" Kearney passed away at the Connecticut Baptist Home on Wednesday, July 17, 2002. She was the widow of the late Harry J. Kearney. Born in Meriden March 12, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Catherine Closson. Mickey's first love was being a grandmother and spending quality time with her grandchildren. She was a nanny for Donna and Linda Stimpson while in their pre-school years until their graduation from high school.

Mickey is survived by: a daughter, Joan Pecar Brown, and son-in-law, Francis of Meriden; a son: Thomas E. Kearney, and daughter-in-law, Carol of Meriden; four grandchildren: Terilyn Brown Nesteriak of Seymour, William Brown and spouse, Denise of East Haddam, Kathleen Kearney Wielgosz and spouse, Thomas of Meriden, and James Kearney and spouse, Amy of East Hampton; four great-grandchildren: Kristyn and James Wielgosz of Meriden, and Brittany and Josh Kearney of East Hampton; a step-daughter: Alta Kearney Nickadomski and spouse, William of Meriden; along with several nieces and nephews in Connecticut and California. She is also survived by a special niece, Edith Goodale Buijnarowski of Meriden, who resided with her aunt after the passing of her own mother.

The Funeral and Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., on Friday, July 19, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Kearney be made to the Connecticut Baptist Home, 292 Thorpe Ave., Meriden, CT 06450. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Connecticut Baptist Home for their professional care and kindness given to Mickey over the many years.
