Ronda Laudano

MERIDEN -- Ronda Laudano, 59, of 80 Hanover St., died suddenly at home on Saturday, July 13, 2002. Born in Glen Falls, NY on Sept. 16, 1942, the daughter of Alfred and Pauline Vandenburgh, she had resided in the Meriden/Middletown area for many years. Mrs. Laudano was employed by Suburban Office Supply in Middletown. She was a member of the Door of Hope Church.

She is survived by a daughter: Lynn Laudano of Meriden; and a son: Andy Laudano of Texas .

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the Walter Hubbard Chapel at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Virginia Chiovoloni

SOUTHINGTON -- Virginia (Whiting) Chiovoloni, of 313 South End Road, died at Bradley Memorial Hospital on Friday, July 17, 2002. She was the wife of Tranquill (Frank) Chiovoloni.

Virginia was born in Winsted and was the daughter of the late Julius and Ruth (Ruett) Whiting. She had been a resident of Plantsville since 1960. Mrs. Chiovoloni was a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church and a past president of the Bradley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Dr. Carol Grant and her husband, John Grant of Southington; a son, David and his wife, Janet of Bristol; a sister Betty Formaggoni of Winsted; along with two step-grandchildren, Victor Piper and his wife, Judy of Salt Lake City, Utah and Linda Piper of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Roger Whiting.

The funeral will be on Saturday, July 20, at 10:45 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to Mary Our Queen Church for a Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, N.J. 08902-4301.

Irene B. George

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Irene R. George, 79, a resident of Montgomery, Ala., died Wednesday, July 17, 2002. She was the wife of Robert W. George of Montgomery, Ala.

Mrs. George was a member of the Goldenrod Chapter of the Eastern Star, and former employee of the Wallingford Family YMCA.

Besides her husband, Robert, she is survived by ; a son, David A. (Linda) George of Cashmere, Wash.; daughter, Christine G. (Chip) Beazley of Montgomery, Ala.; grandchildren, Shawn D. George, Sherry (Ed) Mott, Shannon (Jason)n Giuntoli and Stacey Firth, all of Cashmere, Wash., and Kate Beazley of Montgomery, Ala.; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church or Kiwanis International Foundation, Indianapolis, Ind., in her name. Memorial services will be at the Westminster Presbyterian Church Saturday, July 20, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ronald E. Stoker officiating. Brooks-Cargile Funeral has charge of arrangements.

Jayne Elston

MADISON -- Jayne Hessler Elston, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2002 in Branford. She was the wife of the late Richard D. Elston of 74 Hartford Ave., Madison and Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Mrs. Elston was born in Michigan City, Ind., July 31, 1923, daughter of the late Hugh B. and Angie Broekstra Hessler. She had been a resident of Madison for many years and a former resident of Meriden. Mrs. Elston, a graduate of Brown University, met her late husband, Richard, a graduate of Dartmouth, while they were in college. He died in 1978. Mrs. Elston was an avid golfer and a member of the Madison Country Club, the Madison Winter Club and the Madison Beach Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen E. Jonathan-Lusack and her husband, Rueben of Durham; a son, James H. Elston of Cromwell; and two grandsons, Christian Jonathan-Lusack and Brendan Jonathan-Lusack, both of Durham; she also leaves a brother, Hugh Hessler of Frankfort, Mich.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Madison, Friday, July 26, at 11 a.m. Interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden will be private. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Americares, 161 Cherry St., New Canaan, CT 06840 or to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, 06405. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 1315 Boston Post Road, Guilford.

Lucia McMahon

MERIDEN -- Lucia "Rudy" McMahon, 87, wife of George McMahon of 190 Hamilton Ave., died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 17, 2002 in the MidState Medical Center.

She was born in Middletown, April 27, 1915, a daughter of the late Sebastiano and Maria Gulitto Vecchitto. She was a resident of Meriden most of her life. In the 1950's she had worked for the Cuno Co., later she was employed by the Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Co., for several years. She was a member of the South Meriden Young at Heart, and the A.A.R.P. She had enjoyed traveling, working in her garden, weekends at their lakeside cottage and especially cooking. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister, Philomena Thompson of Meriden; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Elma Vecchitto, Anthony and Mary Vecchitto, James and Arlene Vecchitto, all of Meriden and Joseph and Elizabeth Vecchitto of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Mario and Frank Vecchitto; and her sister, Margarita Vecchitto, who died this past Monday at age 82.

Relatives and friends are invited to participate in her funeral this Saturday, July 20, at 8:45 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, with her Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She will be interred in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be calling hours in the funeral home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mildred Proctor

WALLINGFORD -- Mildred "Jackie" Proctor, 90, of 3301 Ashlar Village, formerly of 222 Curt Smith Road, Southbury, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center. She was the wife of the late Philip B. Proctor.

She was born in Westboro, Mass., June 18, 1912, a daughter of the late Ernest and Alice Jameson Welch. She was a graduate of Wheaton College, class of 1933, Simmons Graduate School, class of 1934. She was a former president of the Scarsdale-Hartsdale N.Y., Girl Scout Council.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jacquelyn and John Varvaro of North Salem, N.Y., and Jane and Frederick Benedict of Carmel, N.Y.; three grandsons, Joel, John and Thomas Benedict; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Anne Varvaro Brown.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 22, at 2 p.m. in the Activities Room of Ashlar Village, Cheshire Road, Wallingford. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the Wallingford Fire Department Ambulance, Masonic Ave., Wallingford 06492 or the Ashlar Grants and Aid Fund, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford 06492. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., is in charge of arrangements.

Roslyn Harris

MERIDEN -- Roslyn Opinsky Harris, 87, of Meriden beloved wife of 64 years of Maurice Harris, died on Thursday, July 18, 2002 at MidState Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Born in Meriden on Feb. 27, 1915, the daughter of the late Abel and Jennie Levine Opinsky, she had resided in Meriden her entire life. She was a graduate of Meriden High School, class of 1935. Mrs. Harris was a member of Congregation B'nai Abraham and the Temple's Sisterhood, as well as recording secretary.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Rachelle Harris of Meriden; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nancy Harris of Vernon; three granddaughters, Melissa Nichols and her husband, Kevin of Moodus, Alison Menniges and her husband, Ben of Falls Village and Shelby Harris of Vernon.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend graveside services to be held on Sunday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at B'nai Abraham Cemetery, Corrigan Ave., Meriden with Rabbi Edward Friedman officiating. A period of mourning will be observed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harris, 52 Haylin Drive, Vernon on Sunday and Monday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492 or Temple B'nai Abraham, 127 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

William G. Mount

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- William G. Mount, 76, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 in Williamsburg, Va.

He was born in New Jersey moving to Meriden as a youth. He attended Meriden schools and Laural Business College. He was a radioman aboard the USS Astoria in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he joined the CIA serving with distinction over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; sons, Paul, Brian, Thomas and David; sisters, Carol, Sharon, Donna and Lynne; brothers, Neil and Paul; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Resurrection was at St. Bede Catholic Church on July 17, with interment with military honors in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Memorials may take the form of "being nice to people."

Thomas J. Witkovic

SOUTHINGTON -- Thomas J. Witkovic Jr., 53, of Academy St., Southington, beloved son of Nellie (Jagielski) Witkovic and the late Thomas J. Witkovic Sr., passed away Monday, July 16, 2002.

Born in Bristol on Dec. 2, 1948, a resident of Southington since 1995, he graduated from Bristol Eastern High School and was a former correction officer with the State of Connecticut. Thomas was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam Era.

In addition to his beloved mother, whom he cherished and spoke to daily, he is most lovingly survived by his special son, Thomas Witkovic of New Britain; two very special sisters, Linda Santoro of Cheshire and Irene Parker and her husband, Steven of West Hartford; and his loving nieces and nephews, Larissa and Thomas Santoro and Jennifer and Jessica Parker. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brother, Charles.

Calling hours will be held Monday, July 22, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Stanley Suchodolski Funeral Home, 444 West St., Rt. 69, Bristol, prior to the Mass. A Mass will follow at St. Stanislaus Church at 10 a.m. Military services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
