Mary C. Amarante

NORTH HAVEN -- Mary C. Ruotolo Amarante, 81, of 555 Pool Road, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Amarante.

Born in New Haven on Feb. 12, 1921, daughter of the late Clement and Mary Grace Greco Ruotolo.

She was the mother of Mary Grace Amarante of Meriden, Frank Amarante and wife Susan of Wallingford, Joseph Amarante and wife Wendy of Putnam, Vincent Amarante and wife Mary Ann of Middlefield; sister of Joseph Ruotolo of Middletown, Clement Ruotolo of Westbrook, Anthony Ruotolo of Virginia and the late Margaret Amento, Rose Lentine, Andrew, Nicholas, Steven and John Ruotolo; grandmother of Jack Barbera Jr., Dawn, Robert and Annette Barbera, Troy and James Amarante, Angel, Joseph, Daniel and Joy Amarante, Anthony and Raymond Durand, Michael, Nicholas and Alex Amarante; and great-grandmother of Alex and Spencer Amarante.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass on Monday morning at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Resurrection, Pond Hill Road, Wallingford. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., is in care of the arrangements.

Leslie J. Newell

MERIDEN -- Leslie J. Newell, of 300 North Wall St., died Friday, July 19, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Barbara Stetson Newell.

He was born in London, England, a son of the late Henry and Rose Newell. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Royal Air Force as a pilot. After the war, he joined the Merchant Marines in both Britain and the United States. Until his retirement, he was a toolmaker at Northeastern Tool Company in Wallingford.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by several cousins in England. He was predeceased by a sister, Sarah Pett.

Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St. is in charge of arrangements.

John P. Saba

MERIDEN -- John P. Saba, 71, of 17 Summer St., died Friday, July 19, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford.

Born in Meriden on March 17, 1931, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary (Chilone) Saba and had resided in Meriden until moving to New York City upon his graduation from Bentley College. Mr. Saba was vice-president of the Greenwich Savings Bank of Manhattan. In 1987 he returned to Meriden to take care of his ailing father. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army and a former member of the Grace Baptist Church of Meriden.

He is survived by his beloved cousins, Sandra Harrington, Diane Mucik, and Gail Benigni, all of Meriden and Joan Garrity of East Hartford; and an uncle, Carmen Chilone of Meriden; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd at 9:30 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden. Burial with military honors will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.(The time of the service.)

Emma J. Tryon

SOUTHINGTON -- Emma J. Wheaton Tryon, 87, of Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at her residence. She was the beloved wife of Robert K. Tryon.

Born in Newport, R.I., Nov. 20, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Helen Allard Wheaton and had been a Southington resident for over 50 years. She had been employed by the Allied Control, Inc., of Plantsville for several years, a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Southington, a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Southington, a member of the former Cross Trailers Square Dance Club of Meriden, the NEFCA Squares, the North American Family Camping Association and the FC and RV Association. She was a volunteer at the Bradley Hospital for many years and had been the recipient of the 1000 hour award.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two stepsons; and daughters-in-law, Roger C. Tryon and his wife of Old Saybrook, and Gary A. Tryon and his wife, Sandrah of Edgewater, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Gerald P. Crompton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service Thursday in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Memorial Fund, 145 Main St., Southington, CT 06489.

Marilyn Warner

WALLINGFORD -- Marilyn Bates Warner, 65, of Colony St., beloved wife for 48 years of Alva H. Warner Sr., died Friday evening, July 19, 2002, at her home.

Born in Barnard, Vt., Aug. 29, 1936, she was a daughter of Doris Sawyer Bates of Fairhaven, Vt., and the late William Bates and had been a Wallingford resident for 50 years. Marilyn's great love in life was her family. She was always a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Besides her beloved husband, Alva, she is survived by her children, Marie Addy and her husband, Rick of Durham, Steven Warner and his wife, Barbara of Wallingford, Karen Stills and her companion, Roger Gray of Florida, Robert Warner and his wife, Irene, Michael Warner, Melinda Ward and her husband, Todd, Doris Molloy and her husband, Robert, all of Wallingford; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her four sisters, Beverly Severance of Bridgewater, Vt., Arlene Henson of Deep River, Linda Hazard of Belfast, Maine, and Laurel Knapp of Fairhaven, Vt.; and her brother, Wendall Bates of Washington State. She was predeceased by a son, Alva H. Warner Jr.; and a brother, Wayne Bates.

By her request, funeral services and burial in Barnard, Vt. will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Hospice and Palliative Care, 33 North Plains Industrial Park, Wallingford, CT 06492. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Walter W. Arthur

MERIDEN -- Walter W. Arthur, 78, beloved husband of Doris (Robidoux) Arthur of Bloomfield, formerly of Enfield died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at home.

Born in Meriden on May 25, 1924, son of the late Samuel and Nadia (Sobel) Arthur he had lived in Enfield for 35 years before moving to Bloomfield seven years ago. Mr. Arthur was self-employed Attorney and practice law in Enfield from 1962 until his retirement in 1994. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, where he was part of the Air Crew, ATC (Air Transport Command) from 1943 to 1946. He receive his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut and his law degree from Cornell Law School, New York in 1955. Mrs. Arthur was an appraisal reviewer for the State Condemnation Appeals Board, was former President of Enfield, Lawyers Association, former President of the Enfield YMCA and was a Habeas Corpus Attorney for prisoners. He was a member of the American and Connecticut Bar Association, was the Enfield Elks Judge Advocate and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi, Law Fraternity. Mr. Arthur was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 77, AF and AM, was a probate court mediator, was professor Emeritus of Manchester Community College, was a legal advisor of Enfield Connecticut Drug Rehabilitation Association and was a member of the DAV.

He is survived by his wife, Doris (Robidoux) Arthur. He was predeceased by a brother, John S. Arthur.

Funeral service and burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Seabury Charitable Foundation, 200 Seabury Drive, Bloomfield, 06002 or to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, N.Y., 10021. Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor has care of arrangements.

Lillian E. Brainerd

MIDDLETOWN -- Lillian E. (Hawxhurst) Brainerd, 90, of 220 Newfield St., Middletown, wife of the late Howard H. Brainerd, died Sunday, July 21, 2002 at Harbor Hill Care Center, Middletown.

Born in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Margaret (Engelman) Hawxhurst and had lived in Middletown most of her life.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Patricia) Damiano of Meriden; and one sister, Henrietta A. Cote of Plainville; five grandchildren, Warren Geromin, William Chamberlain, Caroline Chamberlain-Satinsky, Sarah Chamberlain and Lorenzo Brainerd; and one great-grandson, Kyle Chamberlain. She was predeceased by three sons, Warren E. Brainerd, who died in World War II, Robert A. Brainerd and Howard Brainerd Jr.; two daughters, Marion Geromin and Margaret Brainerd; and two sisters, Maybelle Byrnes and Ruth Anderson.

Memorial services will be held at the Church of The Holy Trinity, Middletown, Friday at 7 p.m. The Rev. Margaret H. Minnick, rector, will officiate and interment will be in East Randolph, Vt., at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Church of The Holy Trinity, 381 Main St., Middletown, 06457. Doolittle Funeral Service, 14 Old Church St., Middletown is in charge of arrangements.

Frances M. Milici

WALLINGFORD -- Frances M. Milici, 73, beloved wife of Anthony J. Milici Sr. of Ward St., Wallingford, died Monday, July 22, 2002 at Hartford Hospital.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday from the Wallingford Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. john Cemetery, gifts in her memory may be sent to the American Liver Foundation, CT Chapter, 110 Washington Ave., North Haven, CT 06473. A complete obituary will appear in Wednesday edition of the Record-Journal.

Sandra Moreno

MERIDEN -- Sandra Moreno, 47, of 80 Hanover St., died at home on Saturday, July 20, 2002.

Born in Bridgeport on April 13, 1955, the daughter of Iris Acevedo Moreno of Meriden and the late Carlos Moreno, she had graduated from Maloney High School and attended the University of Puerto Rico. For the past five years, she was employed by Honeywell Company. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church and a former Miss Puerto Rico of Meriden.

Besides her mother is survived by a daughter, Teishla Lorenzo of Meriden; a son, Jason Lorenzo of New Britain; a grandchild, Jaylen Lorenzo; and a brother, Eugene Moreno of West Haven. She was predeceased by a brother, Carlos Moreno.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, July 24, at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dominic E. Phang

MIDDLETOWN -- Dominic Erin Phang, infant son of Ra Eric Phang and Gina Fabrizio of Andrews St., died Sunday, July 21, 2002 at UConn Health Center.

A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 24, at 10 a.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Beecher & Bennett Faltow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden in care of arrangements.
