James E. Doyle
NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. -- James E. Doyle, 73, formerly of Meriden, died after a brief illness in North Fort Myers, Fla. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Muriel Lazor Doyle, this past February.
Born in Meriden, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude Powers Doyle. James was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. Before his retirement, Mr. Doyle owned and operated the Silver City Sprinkler Company. He was active in civic affairs both in Meriden and Fort Myers. A longtime member of the Meriden division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, he had numerous offices including President. He was named Parade Marshall for the club's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1978. In recognition of his contributions to the AOH, he was made an Honorary Life Member. Mr. Doyle was also active in the Meriden Lions Club, the Meriden Elks Club, the Meriden Police Benevolent Association, the Fort Myers American Legion, the Fort Moose Club, the Fort Myers Elks Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise Doyle and Patrick Noonan of Madison, Sharon and Frank Karrass and Cheryl and Bill O'Loughlin, all of Meriden; six grandchildren, Colleen, Meghan, Tara and Shannon Noonan of Madison and Benjamin and Kerianne Karrass of Meriden; two brothers, Matthew Doyle of Meriden and William Doyle of Vermont; one sister Trudy Gdovin of Vermont; as well as several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his brothers, Edward Doyle and Harold Doyle; and his sister, Mary Doyle Rioux.
The funeral will be held on Monday, July 29, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary Church. Burial with military honors will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Jean M. Jablonski
MIDDLETOWN -- Jean M. Jablonski, 75, wife of Frank Jablonski of Higby Road, Middletown, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at the Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Middletown.
Born June 7, 1927 in Meriden, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Aniela Paul Tonkowicz. She was educated in the Meriden schools and graduated from C.W. Post College. Jean was employed as a secretary for New Departure Hyatt, a division of General Motors, various Meriden banks and more recently at the Middletown Shop Rite. Mrs. Jablonski was a longtime resident of Middletown and a parishioner of St. Pius X Church. She was a member of the AARP and the former Meriden Polish Jr. League in which she held the office of Vice President.
Beside her husband, Frank, she leaves a daughter, Cynthia Jablonski of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Billie Rae Ruchala of Gaffney, S.C.; a brother, Frank Tonkowicz of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Tonkowicz.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Pius X Church, Westfield St., Middletown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Sunday, July 28, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Delia C. Morris
SOUTHINGTON -- Delia C. Morris, 63, of October Lane in the Plantsville section of Southington, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at St. Raphael Hospital in New Haven.
Born in Waterbury, Dec. 11, 1938, daughter of the late Omer and Delia Gerard Labrecque, she had been a Southington resident since 1965. Delia was a member of St. Thomas Church.
Mrs. Morris is survived by her two sons, William and Carl Morris, both of Southington; her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Paul Mariani of Southington; and her former husband, Donald Morris; she also leaves four brothers; three sisters; five grandchildren, Kristina, William, Jeremy, Hope and Ashley; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 29, at 9 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery
in Waterbury. Calling hours are Sunday, July 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home.
Lillian T. Neligon
MIDDLETOWN -- Lillian T. (Morneau) Neligon, 83, formerly of Meriden, widow of the late Francis P. Neligon II, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 in Middletown.
Born in Springfield, a daughter of the late Albert and Eva Morneau, she had lived in Meriden prior to moving to Middletown. She was a former communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Meriden. Mrs. Neligon was an avid golfer and was in the Real Estate business in the Meriden area before retiring.
She leaves three son, Francis and Gail Neligon of Meriden, Normand and Nancy Neligon of East Haven and David and Barbara Neligon of Middlefield; one daughter, Susan M. Neligon of Marlborough; five brothers, Leland Morneau of Hawaii, Lawrence Morneau of Longmeadow, Mass., Norman Morneau and Gerard Morneau, both of Springfield, Mass.; four sisters, Annette Gioielli of Manchester, Lucille Belton of Nashua, N.H., Irene Antaean of Springfield, Mass., and Sister Pauline Morneau of Manchester, N.H.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Neligon was predeceased by a brother, Edward Morneau.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 405 Boston Road, Springfield, Mass., on Monday, July 29, at 12 p.m. followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield, Mass. The Glastonbury Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Celia M. Parese
NORTH HAVEN -- Celia Mary Ciszek Parese, 83, of 125 Kings Highway, North Haven, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at the Hospital of St. Raphael's. She was the wife of Emilio (Gooch) Parese.
Born in Wallingford on Dec. 30, 1918, daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Jajesnica Ciszek. She had worked for the Stanley Judd Company.
She was the mother of Mary Parese Emerson of Hamden, John A. Parese of North Branford and Stanley E. Parese of Williamstown, Mass.; sister of Nellie Loin of Wallingford; also survived by 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Papa; and a brother, Leo Ciszek.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, Monday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Charles O. Pratt
WALLINGFORD -- Charles Oliver Pratt, 76, of 73 Ashlar Village, formerly of 428 Barton Drive, Orange, died Friday, July, 26, 2002 at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, Wallingford. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara Stryker Pratt.
He was born in Bridgeport, April 24, 1926, a son of the late Roydon Pratt Sr. and the late Maude Lane Pratt. He was a graduate of Purdue University and the Yale Graduate Program Bureau of Highway Traffic. Mr. Pratt was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was an Associate of Wilbur Smith Associates Consulting Transportation Engineers of New Haven and worked on designing Connecticut, Washington DC and Baltimore beltways, and also did consulting work all over the U.S., Hawaii and Canada. Mr. Pratt was a life member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and he was also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford. He was very active in church affairs in the Orange Congregational Church for many years where he served as deacon, head deacon and stewartship chairman. He also served for several years on the board of Rideworks of New Haven.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Thomas W. Pratt of New York City, N.Y., David C. Pratt of Mystic and Lee S. Pratt of Canton, Mass.; a brother, Roydon Shaw Pratt Jr. of Bayonet Point, Fla.; two sisters, Barbara Mladinov of Delmar, N.Y., and Carol McCauley of Beacon Falls; and three grandchildren, Josette and Andrew Pratt and Hannah Stryker Pratt.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July, 28, at 3 p.m. at the Orange Congregational Church, 205 Meetinghouse Lane, Orange. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private. May D. Spignesi
WALLINGFORD -- May D. Spignesi, formerly of Wallingford, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 in the Curtis Home in Meriden with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. She was the wife of the late Dr. John T. Spignesi.
Born in Waterbury, she was the daughter of the late Lionel and Blanche Du Bois. A registered nurse, she was a graduate of St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing. She had been a Wallingford resident for many years and was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maria Spignesi Lionello and William Lionello of Wallingford; her son and daughter-in-law, John "Ted" Spignesi Jr. and Linda Spignesi of Meriden; her four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters; a brother; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Mary Ann Spignesi and Christina Ann Spignesi; four brothers; and three sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Most Holy Trinity Church. Interment will be private in St. John Cemetery. Calling hours will be private. Armani L. Brown
MERIDEN -- Armani LaChaya Brown, infant daughter of Natasha Diaz of Meriden and William Brown III of Wallingford, died suddenly July 26, 2002, at Yale New Haven Hospital.
She was born May 7, 2002, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Alize Brown of Meriden; her maternal grandparents, Lucy Casorla of Meriden and Luis Diaz Sr. of Pennsylvania ; paternal grandparents, William and Sheila Brown Jr. of Wallingford; maternal grandparents, Mariano and Helen Roman of Meriden; a close aunt, Rose Santana of Meriden; two special uncles, Oscar Flores and Luis Diaz, both of Meriden. She is also survived by great-uncles, Rene Roman, Mariano Roman Jr., Santos Alicea,; great-aunts, Heather Roman, Beverly Alicea, Mary Roman; great-cousins, Lucille Torres, Melissa Alicea and Antonio Alicea, James Anderson, Haley Anderson, Bismark Guerra and Leticia Guerra. She was predeceased by great-great-grandfather, Lucille Hall; great-great-grandfather, Edward Walter Hall; great-great-uncle, Maurice Hall; and great-uncle, Bismark Guerra.
Calling hours will take place Sunday , July 28, 2002, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial and gathering will be at 10 a.m. in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to the family. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 East Main St., Meriden, has been entrusted with assisting the family.
Madeline G. DeSimone
NORTH HAVEN -- Madeline G. Cavanna DeSimone, 91, of 46 Butler Rd., died Friday, July 26, 2002, at the Hospital of St. Raphael's. She was the wife of the late Peter DeSimone.
Born in Piacenza, Italy on June 16, 1911, daughter of the late Dominic and Maria (Cavanna) Cavanna. She had worked for Wallace Silversmith of Wallingford and later for TMC of North Haven until her retirement in 1964. She was a member of the North Haven Senior Center.
She was the mother of Betty Christensen of No. Guilford, Joann Souchuns and husband, Tom of Wallingford; grandmother of Dave and Donna Christensen of No. Branford, Cody and Betsy Christensen of No. Guilford, Lori Gregan of Deep River, Rita Ann Catapano of Wallingford, Peter Catapano of California, Amy Souchuns of Meriden and Beth Souchuns of Wallingford.; sister of Mary Nimphius of Durham; sister-in-law of Flora Sundberg of Virginia; also survived by nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and numerous other close relatives in Italy. She was predeceased by a daughter, Rita Catapano; a brother, sister-in-law, August and Rosalyn Cavanna; and a brother, Bart Cavanna.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Cabrini Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Northford Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
