Edna R. Chapman

NORTH HAVEN -- Edna Roncaiola Chapman, 81, of 7 Trumbull Place, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at St. Raphael's Hospital.

She was the wife of David L. Chapman; mother of Eileen Chapman, Linda Serfillippi and her husband, Joseph, David G. Chapman, Elizabeth Bernardo and her husband, and Nicholas and Wendy Chapman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in the North Haven Congregational Church. Interment will follow in the North Haven Center Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Gifts Fund of the North Haven Congregational Church, 28 Church St., North Haven, CT 06473. The visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave.

Andrew C. LaPorte

SOUTHINGTON -- Andrew C. LaPorte, 78, passed from life to eternal life with his Lord on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, after a courageous battle with heart disease. He was predeceased by his precious wife of 51 years, Josephine B. LaPorte.

He was born in Southington, the son of the late Anthony and Maria (Fasci) LaPorte and attended local schools. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Tank Division. Mr. LaPorte was a member of the Southington Lions Club and the Gang of Scarpa Shoda. Prior to his retirement he was the Vice President of Supreme Lake Manufacturing.

He is survived by his adoring children, daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and William Coffey of Avon, Kim and Edward Casner Jr. of Cheshire; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Lori LaPorte of Southington, Michael and Cathy LaPorte of Bristol; three beautiful granddaughters, Shallon LaPorte of Plantsville, and Cassandra and Alyssa Casner of Cheshire; and step-grandchildren, Daniel and Ryan Coffey of Colorado, Michael Willett of Southington, and Bryan, Ana and Pamela Javier of Bristol; his sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Joseph DiMassa of Southington; sisters-in-law, Ann LaPorte of Bristol, Adeline LaPorte of New Haven, Elvira LaPorte of Caserta, Italy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Palma Nardi of Southington; sister-in-law, Jeanne Meola of Southington; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beatrice and George Sakellarios of Avon; sister-in-law, Letty (Nardi) and her husband, John Benoit of Southington; a myriad of nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Adeline Kearney. He was predeceased by his brothers, Marco LaPorte, Joseph Fasci LaPorte, Dominic LaPorte, and Peter LaPorte.

His gentle spirit and loving nature will be missed by all. The family would also like to acknowledge all of the care and efforts of his two special attending physicians.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Dominic Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial with military honors will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Assoc., 2550 U.S. Highway 1, North Brunswick, N.J. 08902, or American Diabetes Association, 920 Farmington Ave., W. Hartford, CT 06450.

Leonard F. Suzio Sr.

WALLINGFORD -- Leonard F. Suzio Sr., 76, beloved husband of Jean Myers Suzio, of Highland Ave., died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all.

Mr. Suzio was born in Meriden, Dec. 25, 1925, a son of the late Frank and Anna Calamari Suzio. He graduated from Meriden High School in 1944, joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, and served for two years in the South Pacific. Upon his return, he worked for the L. Suzio Construction Co. in Meriden, and attended Laurel Business College and the University of New Haven. He married Jean Myers on Jan. 25, 1947, and they have six children. They moved to Wallingford in 1951, and Mr. Suzio joined his father-in-law at the Myers-Suzio Co., where he worked for over 25 years before passing the business to his son, Robert. Mr. Suzio then worked part-time at Constitution State Corporate Credit Union Inc. in Wallingford until he retired in December, 2001. As a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and a charter member of the Men's Club of the parish in Yalesville, he was honored to be an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. For 20 years, he brought Holy Communion to nursing homes, hospitals, and the homebound. In his earlier years, he and his wife volunteered at the Newington Children's Hospital. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

Besides his wife, Jean, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Leonard F. Suzio Jr. and Kathryn Suzio of Meriden, Lynne and Brien McMahon of Cheshire, Robert and Christine Suzio of Madison, Nancy and Jim Capaccio of Cheshire, Marianne and Tom Sullivan of Meriden, and Jean and Glenn Tonge of Wallingford; 21 grandchildren; his sister, Gloria Suzio Stone, wife of the late Joseph Stone of Florida; his two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Marie Suzio of Cheshire, and Franklin and Marge Suzio of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews.

His family will receive relatives and friends, Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Good News Fund (for parochial school scholarships), c/o Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 No. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, CT 06492.

James E. Williamson

MERIDEN -- James Elliott Williamson, of Sylvan Ave., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in the MidState Medical Center.

Born in Laconia, N.H., a son of the late James and Eleanor Frye Williamson, he had been a Meriden resident for many years.

He is survived by three sisters, Jean Piper and Mari-lu Williamson, both of Laconia and Ann Fifield and her husband, Leonard Fifield of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his niece, Lou-Ann Bousch.

Funeral services and interment will be privately held. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford.

Marie Grace Arpaia

CHESHIRE -- Marie Grace (Zampano) Arpaia, 75, of Greenbriar Drive, Cheshire, passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 in Meriden.

Mrs. Arpaia was born in New Haven, July 4, 1927, daughter of the late Anthony N. and Marie (Fusco) Zampano.

She was the beloved wife of Nicholas E. Arpaia Jr.; loving mother of Nicholas E. Arpaia III of Durham and Kimberly M. Arpaia of New Haven; sister of Honorable Robert C. Zampano and his wife, Dorothy of East Haven and Roberta Z. Seipold and her husband, Peter of East Haven.

Funeral services in the Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions to MidState VNA and Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden 06450.

Bernard J. Hentz Jr.

WALLINGFORD -- Bernard J. Hentz, Jr., 77, of Colonial Lane, Wallingford, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Haven. He was the husband of Verna Fredette Hentz.

Born in Meriden, March 27, 1925, he was a son of the late Bernard J. Hentz Sr., and the late Martha Beir Hentz and has been a lifelong Meriden Wallingford resident. He was employed by the International Silver Company of Meriden for 35 years until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and had been a member of the National Rifle Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara M. and Tom J. Jenkins of Meriden, Laura A. and Neil Pera of Wallingford, Lorraine M. and Paul Maliszewski of Jackson, Tenn., and Mary A. and Jim Thomas of Wallingford; his son and daughter-in-law, Bernard J. and Susan E. Hentz of Meriden; his nine grandchildren, Stacy Jenkins, Misty Hentz, Vanessa Pera, Shannon Distasio, Michael, Jimmy and Jason Thomas, and Joseph and Nathan Maliszewski; his two great grandchildren, Demetrious and Jalyssa; his sister, Betty Hennessey-Malmberg of ElCajon, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Mary Hentz; a sister, Agnes Cureen; and two brothers, Richard and Edward Hentz.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main Street, Yalesville section of Wallingford, Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors, will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden.

Barbara Hollman

DECATUR, Ga. -- Barbara Lynch Hollman of Decatur, Ga., died Friday, June 14, 2002 after a brief illness.

She is survived by her sister, Jeanne L. Aldrich of Meriden; sons, Rick, Dan and Greg; daughter, Kim; and nine grandchildren. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Eric E. Pesko

MERIDEN -- Eric E. Pesko, 55, of Meriden, died of complications due to diabetes on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown.

Born in Meriden on July 1, 1947, the son of Harriet Pesko of Meriden and the late Edward W. Pesko, he had resided in Meriden his entire life. He had attended local schools and was employed by the State of CT., Department of Transportation, for over 30 years. Mr. Pesko was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church and an automobile enthusiast who was active in a number of local and regional events and organizations.

Besides his mother, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Derrick M. and Danielle Pesko of Meriden; a sister and brother-in-law, Claudia and Greg Whitehead of Durham; a niece, Amy and a nephew, Braden Whitehead, both of Durham.

A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Association, 120 Wall St., 19th Floor New York, N.Y. 10005 or to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

William E. Topor

NORWOOD, Mass. -- William E. Topor of Norwood, Mass., formerly of Needham, Mass., passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002. He was the beloved husband of Eileen F. (Kelly) Topor.

He was the loving son of Leocadia (Kuczenski) Topor of Meriden; brother of Barbara (Topor) and her husband, Denis Gagne of Amston; son-in-law of Mrs. Francis M. (Margaret) Kelly of West Roxbury, Mass.; brother-in-law of Janice (Kelly) and her husband, Steven Belmonte and Francis M. and his wife, Beth Kelly; uncle of Denise Gagne Poncini and her husband, Thomas, Andre Gagne and Lauren and Steven Belmonte of West Roxbury.

He was a member of the Needham Knights of Columbus Council No. 1611, Needham Lions Club and the Needham Golf Club.

Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home, 1352 Highland Ave., Needham, Mass., on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's name may be made to the Stanley R. Tippett House, 920 South St., Needham, Mass., 02492 or to the Mass General Brain Tumor Center, 100 Blossom St., Cox 315, Boston, Mass. 02114.
