Joseph D. Ingeno

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Joseph D. Ingeno died suddenly Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 of a heart attack.

Born Dec. 20, 1941, Joe grew up in Meriden and attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel school and graduated from Platt High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years receiving the rank of Master Sergeant. After his retirement he moved back to Meriden and worked as a manager of J Higbys Yogurt Store in the Meriden Mall from 1989-1992.

He is survived by his son and wife, Joseph and Anuja Ingeno of Miami, Fla.; brothers, Donald C. Ingeno and wife, Patricia Novak Ingeno of Estero, Fla., and Robert Ingeno and wife, Audrey of Meriden; and by nephews, Michael Ingeno and Kyle Ingeno of Meriden; and niece, Christine Scully of Rocky Hill. Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Suzanne Ingeno; and a sister, Linda Gardjulis.

Burial was held in Florida National Cemetery with full military honors.

John E. Kaczor

MERIDEN -- John Edward Kaczor, 85, of Bradley Ave., husband of 28 years of Sophie Jarzabek Gawlak Kaczor, died on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Born in Meriden on Nov. 3, 1916, the son of the late Paul and Maryann Regula Kaczor, he had resided in Meriden most of his life and graduated from Wilcox Technical School. Mr. Kaczor, also lived in West Hartford for over 20 years. He was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft of West Hartford until his retirement. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.

Besides his wife, Sophie, he is survived by one step-daughter and her husband, Lorraine and Bill Cariseo of Newington; one step-son and his wife, Ray and Janet Gawlak of Meriden; a son-in-law, Robert Alekson of Orlando, Fla.; three grandsons; two granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; three step-grandsons; and one step-great-grandson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Barbara Kaczor of Meriden and Stanley and Marion Kaczor of W. Hartford; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, John Kaczor Jr.; and a daughter, Mary Alekson.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Monday, Aug. 19, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be private in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Robert H. Keithan

WALLINGFORD -- Robert Henry Keithan, 47, of Yalesville passed away after a long illness Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 in the Veterans Hospital, West Haven.

He was the son of Lorraine G. Dube of Bristol and the late Howard J. Keithan. Robert was a U.S. Army Paratrooper.

Besides his mother, he is survived by a son, Patrick and a daughter, Rosemary, both of Plainville; a brother, Thomas H. Keithan and his wife, Irene of Wallingford; a sister, Harriet Reilly and her husband, Kevin of Manchester; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Calverton Cemetery, Long Island.

Donald W. Miller

WALLINGFORD -- Donald W. Miller, 52, of North Ridgeland Road, Wallingford, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

Born in Meriden, Feb. 22, 1950, he was a loving son of Rose Klaja Miller of Wallingford and the late Charles J. Miller. Donald was a graduate of the Lowell Institute of Technology, in Lowell, Mass., with High Honors in 1975, and in 1977 he received his Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of Virginia with High Honors. After receiving his Masters Degree, he was employed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for several years. Donald proceeded to become a distinguished Nuclear Engineer for over 20 years at Northeast Utilities, serving as a Senior Nuclear Engineer in the Health Radiation Physics Department. Amongst other innovations, he received high praise for his intellectual concepts including the development of a software application used to track radiation levels to ensure a safe workplace.

Besides his loving mother, Rose, he is survived by his sister, Diane Connolly and her husband, Brian of Stratford; his brother, Kenneth Miller of Ticonderoga, N.Y., and Wallingford; his two nephews, Matthew Connolly of Florham Park, N.J., and Brian Connolly, of Norwalk.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main Street, Yalesville section of Wallingford, Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 9 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Covenant House, 346 West 17th Street, New York, NY 10012.

Robert P. Smith

OLD SAYBROOK -- Robert P. Smith, 84, of Old Saybrook, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at Saybrook Convalescent Home.

Born in East Hartford, he was the son of the late Probate Court Judge, Clarence H. Smith and Ann (Horan) Smith. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was the owner and president of E. Tredennick Co., of Meriden and a consultant to the Commissioner of Welfare. He was a member of the Hartford Golf Club.

Mr. Smith is survived by one son, R. Snowden Smith of Vail, Colo.; three daughters, Bennett Smith of Petaluma, Calif., Sarah Smith Hymes of Vail, Colo., and Eliza Alby of Chewelah, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at Christ the King Church, Old Lyme, Friday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Private interment will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown is in charge of arrangements.

Jeffery Smith

MERIDEN -- Jeffery T. Smith of Johnson Ave., Meriden died Wednesday Aug. 14, 2002 in his home.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Interment will be private. A complete obituary will run in the Friday edition of the Record-Journal.

Elsa Stetson

MERIDEN -- Elsa Stetson, 99, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Ralph W. Stetson.

She was born in Meriden, Feb. 12, 1903, a daughter of the late Julius and Anna Bilger Meister. She was educated and spent her life in Meriden. She had served on the board of the Curtis Home, and was a member of the City Mission Society, the former Home Club of Meriden, the Meriden Woman's Club, and the Appalachian Mountain Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Newell of Meriden; and three nephews, Ernest, Earl, and Dr. Jack Meister.

Funeral services and burial will be private. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford is in charge of arrangements.

Lewis R. DeGenaro

MERIDEN -- Lewis Robert DeGenaro, 56, of 148 Fowler Ave., Ext., died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002. He was the husband of Patricia Parrington DeGenaro.

Born in Floral Park, N.Y., on Jan. 22, 1946, he was the son of the late Louis and Ruth Constantine DeGenaro. He was employed as a technical representative at VGC Graphic Arts Company and later as a cook at Foxwoods and ESPN. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and of the Elks Club and was in the U.S. Army.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Philip Deignan; and a niece, Elizabeth Deignan, all of Rahway, N.J. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy DeGenaro.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Meriden with Rev. Eric Henderson officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. If desired, contributions in Mr. DeGenaro's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, S. Central Connecticut Chapter, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Suite 104, Hamden, CT 06518.

Jean L. McCurdy

MERIDEN -- Jean L. McCurdy, 71, formerly of Hall Ave., in Meriden, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 at the Masonic Health Care Center in Wallingford.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H., Dec. 27, 1930, daughter of the late William and Alice Landon Van Train, she had resided in Southington and Middletown and spent the last 17 years in Meriden. Jean will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. She will be fondly remembered for her kind and loving heart and constant willingness to help others. She worked as Head Proof Reader at the Record-Journal in Meriden from 1950 until her retirement in 1995 and was a member of the Retirees Club of the Record-Journal and the Quarter Century Club at the Record-Journal.

Jean is survived by two sons, Michael R. McCurdy of Shelton and Thomas E. McCurdy of Meriden; one daughter, Debra Sargunas of Waterbury two brothers, William A. Van Train of San Diego, Calif., and James L. Van Train of Tarzana, Calif.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Ring.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 19, at 12 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, Aug. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations in Jean's memory can be made to The American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450-1004.
