Francisca Rivera

MERIDEN -- Francisca (Neris) Rivera, 69, of Nutmeg Drive, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at Ryder Memorial Hospital in Humacao, Puerto Rico. She was the wife of Antonio Rivera.

She was born Sept. 17, 1932 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Anselmo and Andrea (Santana) Neris. Mrs. Rivera was employed at Bradley Home and Pavilion of Meriden and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church.

Besides her husband, She is survived by three sons, Antonio Jr. and wife, Dolores Rivera of Meriden, Jose Angel and wife, Theresa Rivera of Middletown and Ismael and wife, Anilia Adorno of Chicago; two daughters, Wilma and husband, Tyrone Abrahams of Meriden and Myrna Rivera of Middletown; three brothers, Eliseo Neris of Puerto Rico, Susano Neris of Florida and Felipe Neris of New York; seven sisters, Juana Hernandez, Candida Neris, Maria Neris, Carmen Winzce, Justina Flores, Elena Medina, all of Meriden and Luisa Rivera of Puerto Rico; she is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Melissa, Demitrius, Stacey, Diego, Antwon, Ebony, Christopher, Erica, Noel, Nina, Ryan, Tyrone Jr., Ismael Jr., Jose Antonio and Diana; and two great-grandchildren, Sunseraya and Evan.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 159 W. Main St. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Jeffery T. Smith

MERIDEN -- Jeffery T. Smith, 49, of Johnson Ave., Meriden, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 in his home.

Born in New Haven, June 24, 1953, a son of the late Edward T. and Shirley Wright Smith, he had been a resident of Meriden and Wallingford for several years. He was a graduate of Amity Regional High School and the Porter and Chester Institute in Stratford. He was employed by Artistic Builders Inc. of Wallingford, and had previously worked for Cahn Engineers in Wallingford. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Wallingford Wishing Well and the Wallingford Lodge of Elks No. 1365.

Mr. Smith is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Susan S. Manchester and Danforth Manchester III of Meriden; his brother and sister-in-law, Roy E. and Carolyn Smith of Wallingford; his nieces and nephews, Christen Smith and Joy Smith, both of Wallingford, Carlie Manchester and Danforth Manchester IV, both of Meriden, Todd A. Smith of Branford and Justen Carter of Westbrook; and his companion Thumper. He was predeceased by his brother Todd E. Smith.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Interment will be private in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford. In Lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Wallingford Wishing Well, 382 North Cherry St., Ext., Wallingford, CT. 06492.

Barbara Thomas

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas -- Barbara (Crosby) Thomas, 66, passed away at her home on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002. She was the wife of William Gregory Thomas and they were formerly of Southington.

Born in Waterbury on Sept. 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Alice (Frenette) Crosby. She attended Southington High School and New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing. She married William in Southington on July 7, 1956 and they were married for 46 years. Mrs. Thomas was a member of the American Business Women's Association, the Women's Club of Duncanville and was co-owner of Cargo Trailer Sales in Dallas and Waxachachie prior to her retirement.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Janine Hermann and her husband, George and their children, Laura and William, all of New Milford; two brothers, Richard Crosby of North Port, Fla., and Thomas Crosby and his wife, Glenna of Ladd, III.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington. Burial will be in Quinnipiac Cemetery. There are no calling hours. At the family's request memorial donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 78 Eastern Blvd., Glastonbury, CT 06033. The Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington are in charge of arrangements.

Ida V. Brunell

MERIDEN - Ida V. Brunell, 82, formerly of 60 Hanover St., wife of the late Frederick J. Brunell, died on Friday, Aug. 16, 2002 at Southington Care Center.

Born in Meriden on Jan. 21, 1920, the daughter of the late Ottavio and Frances Lullien Valenti, she had resided in Meriden all her life and attended Meriden schools. Mrs. Brunell was employed by New Departure for many years and was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church.

She is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Sylvia V. and DeForest Cooper of Wallingford and Semone V. Curry Of Meriden; two nieces and four nephews, Joanne Curry, MaryBeth Valenti, John J. Curry III, Kevin M. Curry and Robert Valenti; and a special nephews, David J. Cooper. She was predeceased by a brother, Otto Valenti; and a niece, Kathleen Cooper Savage.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Monday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. in the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Friends may call prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and other caregivers at Southington Care Center.

Peter Calamore

WALLINGFORD - Peter Calamore, 88, of Slater Lane, Wallingford, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, in Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Frances E. Agnew Calamore.

Born Feb. 17, 1914, in Port Washington , N.Y., a son of the late Paul and Margaret Malchiodi Calamore, he was a Wallingford resident for many years. He had been the proprietor of the former Walco Spa in Wallingford for several and was employed by the International Silver Co. until his retirement. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Pinta Council No. 5 of Wallingford.

Mr. Calamore is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Peter J. and Jeanne Sittnick Calamore of East Berlin; his grandsons, James P. Calamore, Thomas E. Calamore and Peter A. Calamore; his brother, Joseph Calamore of Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Wolf; and his brothers, Benjamin Calamore and John Calamore.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. from The Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

Richard C. Gelo

WALLINGFORD - Richard C. Gelo of Brook Hollow, formerly of Whittlesey Ave., died at MidState Medical Center Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002.

Born Nov. 3, 1935 in Meriden, a son of the late Joseph and Ethel Leveille Gelo, he was a lifelong resident of Wallingford. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church. Since his retirement he had enjoyed reading and spending his time with his close friend, Laura.

He leaves three nieces, Janice Gelo of Edgewater, Fla., Christine Quinn of Edgewater, Fla., and Ellen Colburn of Cromwell; several aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as his close friend, Laura; and friends, Jack Selmecki and John and Maryanne Moore. He was predeceased by his brother, James Gelo; and half-brother, Ralph Gelo.

There are no calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Geraldine F. Peters

MIDDLETOWN - Geraldine Fahey Peters, 97, of Eagle Hollow Drive, Middletown, formerly of Yalesville and Northford, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Ridgeview Health Care Center in Cromwell. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel J. Peters Sr.

Born in Grafton, Mass., she was a daughter of the late James and Catherine Quill Fahey and had been a Yalesville resident for over 25 years and a resident of Northford for 24 years until moving to Middletown recently. Mrs. Peters had been a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and was an avid reader.

She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Veronica (Mrs. Daniel T.) Wrenn of Waterbury, Patricia (Mrs. Gerald R.) Marr of the Yalesville section of Wallingford and Arlene and Raymond V. Isola of Middletown; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Hilarion Fahey and Edward Fahey.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.

Albert W. Spitzak

CONCORD, Mass. - Albert W. Spitzak, 67, of Concord, Mass., died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at Youville Hospital in Cambridge, Mass., He was the husband of Marguerite (Cote) Spitzak.

Born in Meriden on Jan. 14, 1935, he was the son of the late William and Theresa (Capaccio) Spitzak. He attended Meriden public and parochial schools, received a BS in Engineering from University of Connecticut and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 1962. During the Korean Conflict he served as a radar technician in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Spitzak was employed as an engineer at MEI Associates in Bedford, Mass. Previously, he was the founder and President of Graphic Data Inc., and co-founder of A&D Associates, both in Bedford. He also worked at Itek, Mitre and Draper Labs, formerly of Instrumentation Labs, all in Bedford, JPL in Pasadena, Calif., and Fairchild Camera in Long Island, N.Y. Following his retirement he continued to work part time as a private consultant. A longtime Concord resident he enjoyed golfing, playing tennis and racing his 110 sailboat. He was a longtime member of the Concord Minutemen Association and the Musketaquid Club in Concord.

In addition to his wife, Marguerite, he is survived by two sons, William A. Spitzak of Los Angeles, Calif., and John G. Spitzak of Bolder, Colo.; three daughters, Maria J. Spitzak of Maynard, Mass., Sheila A. Spitzak of Charlestown, Mass., and Sharon E. Woods and her husband, Darren of Hudson, Mass.; a brother, Joseph Cessario of Plantsville; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held on Monday, Aug. 19, from the Joseph Dee and Son Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., Concord, Mass., at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Bernard's Church, Concord at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord, Mass. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701.

Frank H. Warner

HAMDEN - Frank H Warner, 78, of 895 Shepard Ave., Hamden, entered into rest eternal, Friday, Aug. 16, 2002. He was the husband of Margaret Hendershot Warner.

Born in Hamden, he was the son of the late Douglas F. and Catherine Hindinger Warner and was a 65 year member of the Hamden Plains United Methodist Church, past Master of the Hamden Grange, past Master of the CT. State Grange, past Master of the New Haven County Pomona Grange, past Voting Delegate of the National Grange, a member of the Day Spring Lodge No. 30, AF & AM, member of the Mix District Vol. Fire Co., served on the board of Patron's Group Insurance Co., of Glastonbury, served on the Recreation Dept. for the town of Hamden for many years, and was active in the Little League Baseball and Hockey in Hamden. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. Before his retirement in 1995, he was a mason contractor and co-owner of the D.F. Warner Co., of Hamden for over 60 years.

He was the father and father-in-law of Lawrence D. and wife, Shirley Warner of Wallingford and Mark C. and wife, Jacqueline Warner of Hamden; brother of John E. Warner of Hamden and Howard D. Warner of Avoca, N.Y.; grandfather of Mrs. Kevin (Karen) Annis and Melissa, Matthew and Steven Warner; great-grandfather of the late Charles Warner.

Friends and relatives may call at the Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and are to go directly to the Hamden Plains United Methodist Church for services on Monday at 12 p.m., followed by burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hamden Plains United Methodist Church, Book of Remembrance, 15 Church St., Hamden, 06514 or to the Camp Berger Trust Fund, c/o CT. State Grange, 769 Hebron Ave., P.O. Box 6517, Glastonbury, 06033.
