Esther Rosch

OCALA, Fla. -- Esther Levasseur Rosch, 90, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002.

She was born in Lille, Maine, Aug. 28, 1911. She lived in Meriden for 29 years, where she ran a Rooming house business. Retiring in 1968 to Tamarac, Fla., with her late husband, James Rosch. Upon suffering a debilitating illness in 1997 she moved to Ocala, Fla., to live with her son and family.

She is survived by her son, Joseph (Gene) Rosch of Ocala, Fla.; and four brothers, Gerard Levasseur of New London, Joseph Levasseur of Clinton and Richard and Charles Levasseur of Meriden; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion Count, Ocala, Fla.

Jennie C. Specyalski

SOUTHINGTON -- Jennie C. Specyalski, 84, of 255 Curtiss St., died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002 at Brightview of Avon. She was the widow of Adolph Specyalski.

Born in Southington on April 23, 1918, the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Zaroch) Ciss. Prior to her retirement in 1986, she had worked at Buswell Metal Co., in Southington for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Johanne Nolan and a granddaughter Maureen Nolan, both of New Britain; three sisters, Lottie Brandenburg of Southington, Helen and her husband, Edward Musczynski of Unionville and Antoinette Ciss of New Britain; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, James F. Nolan Jr.

The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A special Thank-you to Brightview of Avon .Donations may be made in her memory to The Scholarship Fund of Brightview, 220 Scoville Road, Avon, CT 06001.

Renee C. Dyer

BRIDGEPORT -- Renee Carol Dyer, 33, of Bridgeport died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002 in her home. Born in Meriden, she lived there most of her life before moving to Bridgeport seven years ago.

She is survived by her mother and father, Betsy White Dyer and Harry Dyer and her daughter, Alyssa Dyer, all of Bridgeport; her sister, Yvonne Sourragh of Hamden; her brother, Brian Dyer of Arlington, Va.; a niece, Cailin Dyer; nephews, Xander Dyer and Travis Sourragh.

Friends may attend a memorial Mass of Christian burial on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. The family requests contributions be made in her memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1 Selleck St., Suite 500, Norwalk, CT 06855. Arrangements by Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Trumbull.

B. William Kumnick

NORTH HUTCHINSON ISLAND, Fla. -- B. William Kumnick, a native and long time resident of Meriden, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002 at the age of 75. For more than 50 years he was married to Marylou Brysh Kumnick, also from Meriden.

Born in Meriden on March 22, 1927, son of the late Frank and Gertrude Dugan Kumnick, he was a graduate of Saint Rose School and Meriden High School, class of 1944, and parishioner of Saint Rose Church. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy. In 1996, shortly after his retirement as truck and fleet manager at M&E Ford, he and his wife moved to Florida. An avid reader, traveler, and devoted UCONN basketball fan, he always had a funny story to tell. While residing in Fort Pierce, he volunteered at the Fort Pierce Public Library, was a member of Saint Anastasia Catholic Church and American Legion Post 40.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Susan M. Kumnick of Barranquilla, Columbia, Priscilla Papallo of Helena, Mont., and Janet Jones of Bozeman, Mont.; sons, Hilary Kumnick of Killingsworth and Robert Wm. Kumnick of Honolulu, Hawaii; 10 grandchildren; one great grand child; and sister, Elizabeth Rosadini of North Haven. Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters and one grandchild.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450 or to Hospice of the Treasure Coast, P.O. Box 1748, Fort Pierce, FL 34954. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Haisley-Hobbs Funeral Home, Inc., in Fort Pierce is in charge of arrangements.

Henry J. Millington

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -- Henry Joseph George Millington, 87, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002 at his residence.

He was born April 1, 1915 in Meriden and moved to Ft. Myers Beach in 1976 from Cheshire. Mr. Millington retired as Vice-President of the Lighting Division of the Miller Company in Meriden. He was a member of the Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church and was a longtime Mason in Meriden.

Mr. Millington is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara (L'Heureux) Millington; three children, Sally (Jean Maurice) Lacroux of Salida, Colo., Robert L. (Judy) Millington of Brighton, Colo., and Susan M. (William) Kamerer of Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandsons, Blaise A. (April) Lacroux of Seattle, Wash., and Kale E. Lacroux of Aspen, Colo.; two sisters, Gladys (John) Neubaum of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Evelyn Pella of Middletown; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church, 100 Chapel St., Fort Myers Beach, Fla., with the Rev. Dr. Philip Makari, officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home, 1600 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers Beach, Fla.

Florence F. Passerini

MERIDEN -- Florence Filipek Passerini, 90, of Bradley Ave., Meriden, died Monday Aug. 19, 2002 in the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

Born in Meriden, Feb. 17, 1912, a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Latka Filipek, she was a lifelong Meriden resident. She had been employed by the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection for several years until her retirement.

Mrs. Passerini is survived by her daughter, Pamela DeVeau of Wallingford; her four grandchildren, Barclay DeVeau, Josh DeVeau, Brandice DeVeau and Jameson DeVeau; her three sisters, Julianne Macchi of Hartford, Mirriom Mende of Colchester and Dorothy Piatek of Meriden; her three brothers, Winton Filipek and Richard Filipek, both of Meriden, and Phillip Filipek of Port Clinton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Ritter; and her brother, Thaddeus Filipek.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. in the Wallingford Funeral Home. Interment will be private.

Edward G. Pikor Sr.

WALLINGFORD -- Edward G. Pikor Sr., 81, of Picciola Road, Fruitland Park, Fla., formerly of Ridgewood Road, Wallingford, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Fla. He was the beloved husband of Jean B. St. Onge Pikor. They had celebrated their 51st. wedding anniversary on Oct. 2, 2001.

Born in Meriden, May 2, 1921, he was a son of the late Martin and Rose Loin Pikor and had been a Wallingford resident for 47 years until moving to Florida three years ago. Mr. Pikor was employed by the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation in Wallingford, for 35 years until his retirement. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, a member of the VFW Major Raoul Lufbery Post No. 591 of Wallingford and AMVETS. He had been a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville section of Wallingford and a parishioner of St. Paul's Church in Leesburg, Fla.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela J. and David Vose of Clinton, Mass., and Penny L. and Rodney Losi of Wallingford; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward G. Pikor Jr. of Bridgeport and Karen Pikor of Fairfield and Gregory J. and Rita Pikor of Covington, Ga.; his six grandchildren, Kim Pikor, Todd Pikor, Melissa Losi, Justin Losi, Jillian Vose and Colin Vose; his two sisters, Helen Pikor Fritz and Ann Pikor, both of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, John Pikor, Frank Pikor, Anthony Pikor and Stanley Pikor.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment, with military honors, will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

Helen L. Biafore

MERIDEN -- Helen L. Biafore, 80, wife of John J. Biafore of 74 Centennial Ave., died in her home Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, after a brief illness.

She was born in Meriden, Nov. 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Theodore and Stephanie Smitana Lapuc. She was a lifelong resident, although she and John were able to enjoy over 40 winters relaxing in Vero Beach and Hollywood, Fla. Mrs. Biafore met her husband of 58 years while working for the New Departure Co. during World War II. She had worked for many years as the Bookkeeper for her husband's Masonry and General Contracting business. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where she had been a member of the Mother's Circle, when her children were young. She had also been a member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society. She was a talented seamstress and beautified her home and neighborhood with her plantings and garden. She is best described by her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Leonard Rich of Meriden, Marie and John Sullivan of Southington and Elizabeth and Michael Cubeta Jr. of Middletown; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Barbara Biafore of Meriden; 14 grandchildren, Amy, Andrew, John, Thomas and William Rich, Rebecca Gardella, Joseph Sullivan, Ann and Sally Cubeta, Katherine, Mary, Elizabeth, Abigail and Margaret Biafore; three great-grandchildren, Megan, Jack and Carley Rich; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Frances and Francis Grieco of Southington, Virginia and Albert Sattler of Meriden, Anita Celella, also of Meriden; a brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Theresa Lapuc Jr. of Madison; also two additional sisters-in-law, Helen Lapuc and Terri Lapuc; a brother-in-law, Anthony Biafore Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Henry, Alfred and Robert Lapuc; two sisters Ann Isyk and Lucille Powers; also sister-in-law, Rose Biafore Gallucci and brothers-in-law, Edward, Patrick and Peter Biafore.

Relatives and friends are invited to participate in her funeral Friday, Aug. 23, at 9:15 a.m. from the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden with her Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10 a.m. She will be interred in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be calling hours in the funeral home Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Her family would appreciate expressions of sympathy with contributions to Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, 115 Lewis Ave., Meriden, CT 06450 or to the Franciscan Life Center, 271 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

Lillian Campailla

WALLINGFORD -- Lillian Borges Pinto Campailla, 80, of Hill Ave., Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, in the MidState Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Francesco "Frank" Campailla.

Born in Waterbury, Oct. 10, 1921, a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Borges, she was a lifelong Wallingford resident. She had been employed by the Burndy Corporation of North Haven, and the Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford for several years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and she loved to crochet.

Mrs. Campailla is survived by her daughter, Marie Ferreira of Cheshire; and her two sons, John Pinto of Monterey, Calif., and Manuel Pinto Jr. of Honolulu, Hawaii; her grandchildren, Danny, Chris, Larry, Beth, and Aimee; her brother, Tony Borges of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Lanny Borges.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in the St. Mary Mausoleum in New Britain. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT. 06108.
