Mary T. Fitzgerald

MERIDEN -- Mary T. Fitzgerald, 91, formerly of Meriden, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Brook Hollow Health Care Center in Wallingford.

Born in Meriden on March 12, 1911, the daughter of the late William P. and Anna Fitzgerald, she had resided in Meriden most of her life. Miss Fitzgerald was educated in Meriden schools and employed by the State of Connecticut.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Cemetery with Rev. Roy of St. Joseph Church officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Noreen W. Kurtz

MERIDEN -- Noreen W. Kurtz, 77, wife of the late William E. Kurtz, died suddenly on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.

Born in Rochester, N.H., on Aug. 21, 1925, daughter of the late Edmund and Alice Ducquett Willis, she had resided in Meriden for 60 years.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marleen and Louis A. Frasco of Boston, Mass.; one son and daughter-in-law, William W. and Patricia Kurtz of Naugatuck; five grandchildren, Lisa, Eric, Chris, Alyson and Daniel; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys Wentworth of New Hampshire. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, William and Bryan.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. in the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Milan Orosz

WALLINGFORD -- Milan Peter Orosz, 78, of South Orchard Street, died Wednesday night at MidState Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Florence Zyzo; his daughter and son-in-law, Marilynn and Thomas Loin of Wallingford; and his son and daughter-in-law, David M. and Disa Orosz of Southington.

Complete funeral arrangements will be announced Friday's Record-Journal.

Philomena C. Palladino

MERIDEN -- Philomena C. Palladino, 93, of 55 Willow St., died after a brief illness Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Wadsworth Glen Health Care Center in Middletown.

Born in New York on Sept. 26, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Vito and Carmela Petruzullo Palladino and lived in Meriden from age one. She was employed by International Silver Company for over 45 years until her much welcomed retirement at age 62.

She is survived by one sister, Josephine Donovan of Meriden; she leaves many, many nieces and nephews; and great and great-great nieces and nephews, including Meredith and Brian McGray of Meriden, Carmela Murphy of Cromwell, Joyce Morley of Meriden, Patricia Grimes of Meriden, Edward and Sheila Grimes of Durham, Bill and Ethel Belcourt of Durham, Donald and Donna Belcourt of Meriden, Lynette and Sebastian Milardo of Portland and Betty Zesk of Riverside, Calif. Aunt Phil will be greatly missed by both family and friends. She was predeceased by three sisters, Madelaine Grimes, Mary Formica, Antoinette Belcourt, all of Meriden; and a brother, Jimmy Palladino, who resided in Florida with his wife.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, followed by a memorial service at noon. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

James J. Sherrange

MERIDEN -- James J. Sherrange, 56, of 22 Rice Road, husband of Annette Carr Sherrange, died suddenly, Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at MidState Medical Center.

Born in Erie, Pa., on July 25, 1946, the son of the late Donald and Rosemary Santabene Sherrange, he had resided in North East, Pa., before moving to Meriden in 1989. He had graduated from St. Gregory School and the Erie Business Center. Mr. Sherrange was employed as a retail manager for many years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served with the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. Sherrange was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church.

Besides his wife, Annette he is survived by a daughter, Michela Sherrange of Wallingford; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jason and Jennifer Sherrange of Newington and Matthew Sherrange of Meriden; a sister, Donna Rose Sherrange of North East, Pa.; his mother and father-in-law, William and Gilda Carr of Erie, Pa.; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. in St. Laurent Church. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450.\

Arthur E. Syphers

WALLINGFORD -- Arthur E. Syphers, 77, of 147 Cook Hill Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at MidState Medical Center, Meriden. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Johnson Syphers.

He was born in Hartford, Nov. 24 1924, a son of Carlotta Nelson Syphers. He was employed for many years by Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. Later, after his retirement, he worked in the bakery of the Wallingford Stop & Shop for six years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Meridian Lodge No. 77 A.F. & A.M. where he was past master having served in 1963, Meriden Fellowcraft Club, where he was past president, and was a past patron of Meridian Chapter No. 8, Order of the Eastern Star, Meriden. He was an avid bicyclist and traveled extensively by bicycle around Wallingford and New England. He was an active outdoorsman and camper.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and Randy Berry of Wallingford and Linda Syphers of Wethersfield; and one grandchild, Philip Lawton Berry.

Friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford on Friday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service and burial will be private. It is suggested that gifts in his memory be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford 06492 or the Wallingford Land Trust, P.O. Box 611, Wallingford 06492, or the Wallingford Historical Society, P.O. Box 73, Wallingford 06492.

Patricia A. Tangney

WALLINGFORD -- Patricia A. Tangney, 49, of Welcome St., Wallingford, died at her home on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002. She is the beloved daughter of Lena Sagnella Tangney of Wallingford and the late Walter P. Tangney. She was predeceased by her brother, Alfred J. Tangney.

Born in Meriden, April 27, 1953, Pat was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School, class of 1971. She received her Baccalaureate in English in 1976 as a Cum Laude graduate, earned her MAT from Quinnipiac University and a Professional Certification in Administration and Supervision from Southern Connecticut State University. She was an English Teacher in the North Haven School System. Previously, Pat served as the Assistant Director of Cooperative Education at the University of New Haven and the Director of Placement at the Stone Academy. As a dedicated educator, she was a multiple year honoree in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. In addition, she was the 1993 recipient of the Delio Rotondo Teacher of the Year Award and the 1984 Educational Leadership Award for Women in Business. Pat served as the writing coach for the Future Problem Solvers Program and was a mentor for the Connecticut's Best Program. Her genuine concern about her students and the people she loved will be missed. Her greatest achievement was making a positive difference in the lives of those she had encountered.

Besides her mother Lena, she is survived by one niece; three nephews; several cousins and close friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony St., Wallingford. Interment will be private in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford.

Robert W. Beale

MERIDEN -- Robert W. Beale, 67, of Skyline Drive, Meriden, beloved husband of Jacquelyn DeLucia Beale, died in the arms of his family and God on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, in The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

A son of the late William Beale, former Fire Marshall of Wallingford, and the late Nora Halligan Beale, he was born in Wallingford, Sept. 20, 1934. He attended Holy Trinity School and was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he spent 19 months in Korea. He had been employed by SNET for 38 years. A communicant of Holy Angels Parish, he served two terms on the Parish Council and helped with the CCD and CYO programs. He started as an Usher at Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford at the age of 16, and continued as a greeter at Holy Angels Church in South Meriden. Bob coached T-Ball and Little League in South Meriden for 11 years and was a member of their Meriden Hall of Fame and later coached in the Babe Ruth League.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Robert J. Beale and his wife, Carolyn of Meriden and Christopher W. Beale and his wife, Abby of Wallingford; his daughter, Ann Monica Beale Furgalack and her husband, John Furgalack of Wallingford; his six grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, Rebecca, Lucas, Jonathan and Michael; his sister, Ann Fritz of Wallingford; his sister-in-law, Nancy Powers of Southboro, Mass.; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Robert Fritz and James Powers.

The Beale family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Kathleen Sorcinelli and Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will [proceed to Holy Angels Church in South Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.

Edward M. Maigarie Jr.

SOUTHINGTON -- Edward M. Maigarie Jr., 52, of West St., in the Plantsville section of Southington died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002.

Born in Southington, July 11, 1950, a son of Genevieve Keltonic Maigarie and the late Edward J. Maigarie, he was a lifelong Southington resident. Mr. Maigarie was a member of St. Thomas Church and of the Sportman's Club of Southington.

Besides his mother, Genevieve, he is survived by his step-son and step-daughter, Michael Ciccarello of New Britain and Siobhan Bradley of Southington; two brothers, John Maigarie of Georgia and Stanley Maigarie and his wife, Nancy of Southington; step-granddaughter, Samantha; and his niece and nephew, Kendra and Andrew Maigarie.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, Aug. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours are on Monday prior to funeral from 8 to 10 a.m. at Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville.
