Valentine W. Raguckas
MERIDEN -- Valentine W. Raguckas, 84, of 828 Blackstone St., husband of the late Josephine (Kowalski) Raguckas, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 at Hartford Hospital.
Born in Torrington on July 25, 1918, the son of the late Vincent and Margaret (Jankowski) Raguckas, he attended Torrington schools and had been a Meriden resident since 1953. Mr. Raguckas was employed by New Departure in Bristol for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army-Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and a member of VFW and New Departure Fish and Game Club.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Pete Baker; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lorelle Raguckas; four grandchildren, Kevin Baker, Peter Baker and his wife, Michelle, Taylor Raguckas and Bobby Raguckas; one great-grandson, Jake Baker; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Charles Bradley of San Marcos, Calif.; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Natalie Kulas of Naugatuck.
The funeral will be held on Monday, Sept. 16, at 8:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Meriden Antique Veterans, c/o Richard Egan, 79 Alcove St., Meriden, CT 064501.
Peter J. Alia
OAKDALE -- Peter J. Alia, 57, formerly of Meriden, was pronounced dead Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. A full obituary with a funeral schedule will be published in the Tuesday edition of the Meriden Record-Journal. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.
Milton B. Annes
WALLINGFORD -- Milton B. Annes, 84, of South Cherry Street, died Sept. 12, 2002, at the Meriden Center. He was the beloved husband of Anna Altieri Annes.
He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Wallingford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Carmen Yeust of Dallas, Pa.; two sons, Edward Vega and Thomas Vega, both of Chino Hills, Calif.; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be presented to Mrs. Annes at the Wallingford Funeral Home.
Michael T. Laccone
WALLINGFORD -- Michael T. Laccone, 71, of 12 Russell St., died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at the CT Hospice, Branford. He was the husband of Lillian Frate Laccone.
Born in New Haven on Jan. 14, 1931,son of the late Thomas and Eva Reagan Laccone. He had worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 37 years, retiring as a Tool Room Supervisor. A U.S. Navy Korean War veteran, he was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Mr. Laccone was an avid golfer having hit a hole-in-one and an avid bowler.
He was the father of Steven Laccone and his wife, Deborah of Wallingford, and the late Vivian Laccone; grandfather of Michelle, Stefanie, Jennifer and Kevin Laccone; son-in-law of Theresa Frate of North Haven; brother of John Laccone of San Diego, Gloria Mazzara of West Haven and the late Angela Tanno, Mary Gelo and Thomas Laccone; brother-in-law of William Tanno of Clearwater, Fla. and Elizabeth Laccone of West Haven; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services from the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven. There will be no visiting hours. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
Timothy J. Puglielli Sr.
MERIDEN -- Timothy J. Puglielli Sr., 75, husband of Mary P. Mazza Puglielli, of 98 Gwen Road, died unexpectedly, Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, in the MidState Medical Center.
He was born in Pratola, Italy, March 27, 1927, a son of the late Louis and Adelina DiMattia Puglielli Sr. He was a resident of Meriden for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was quality control supervisor for the Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, having retired in 1989 after 35 years of employment. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a past president of the A.A.R.P., Affiliate #2954. Mayor Walter Evilia appointed him to the Board of Tax Assessors and had also served on the City Building Commission. He was a champion bowler. In recent years he enjoyed golf with friends and also spent many hours in his garden. He was an accomplished handy-man able to fix most anything. He and Mary were renowned for their ability on the dance floor, but most of all, he was an avid follower of Nations Financial Markets. Mr. Puglielli was a loving husband, father and super Grandpa.
Besides his wife he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Diane and Gerald DeFelice and Claudia Meyers, all of Meriden; five grandchildren, Jason Joseph Puglielli, Gregory Timothy Puglielli, and Anthony Parker Puglielli, also Steven and Kristin Meyers.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Susan Puglielli of Raleigh, N.C., Louis and Margaret Puglielli Jr. of Southington; also one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Anthony Petock of Windsor; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to participate in his memorial service Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment will be private, held at the convenience of his family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad Street. Irene M. Sammito
MERIDEN -- Irene M. Sammito, 83, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Coccomo Health Care Center.
Born in Meriden on March 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Salina Grenon Parenteau. She resided in the Meriden-Wallingford area all of her life and was a resident of Coccomo Health Care Center for many years.
She is survived by a son, George E. Sammito and his wife, Rebecca. She was predeceased by her brother, Francis E. Parenteau.
Graveside service is planned for Monday, Sept. 16, at 10:15 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, located in Meriden. Arrangements are being provided by Symaszek-Taylor Funeral Home in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Phyllis A. Ziemba
MERIDEN -- Phyllis A. Ziemba, 87, wife of the late Frank J. Ziemba, died peacefully on Sept. 12, 2002, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Masonic Home after a short illness.
Born Nov. 10, 1914, in East Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Felix J. and Anna Chniedziejko Budnick. She was raised and attended schools in Terryville where she and Frank were married 66 years ago on Sept. 12, 1936. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and a longtime member of the Ladies Guild and Lady Falcons Nest 68. Mrs. Ziemba loved bowling with her husband and friends and was known to throw a wicked curve which resulted in many strikes. She was a diehard Red Sox fan and armchair coach for the 49ers. Phyllis and Frank enjoyed many years of camping at Fisherman's Memorial in Rhode Island as well as making several trips across the United States and Canada with their "little green camper".
She is survived by a son, Frank E. Ziemba of Hortense, Ga.; a daughter, Christina and her husband, Ray Ruel of Meriden; seven grandchildren, Karen and husband, Bill McCoy of Savannah, Ga., Georffrey and wife, Catherine Ruel, Kenneth Ruel, Stephen and wife, Lea Ruel and Andrew Ziemba, all of Meriden, Donald Ruel of Durham, Audrey and husband, Dave Chec of Park City, Utah; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Mitchell Ruel of Meriden; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Felix of Bristol and John of Poland; and two sister, Monica and Stefania, both of Poland.
Her funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at 9:45 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday morning beginning at 8:45 a.m. Her family respectfully requests that memorials be made in the form of contributions to St. Stanislaus School, 81 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450.
Luigia C. Palazzo
SOUTHINGTON -- Luigia Cecere Palazzo, 76, of 26 Chestnut St., died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002. She was the wife of Michaelangelo Cecere Palazzo.
Born on June 21, 1926, in Bonea, Province of Benevento, Italy, the daughter of the late Raffaele and Genoueffa D'Apice Cecere Palazzo. Prior to her retirement she was employed by Five Star and had also worked at Lori Engineering. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Domenic and Jean of Southington, Raffaele and Connie of Plainville, and Assunta and Patricia of Southington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gina and Joseph Telfer, and Maria and John Ricciardone, all of Southington; 11 grandchildren, Christina, Michael, Lisa, Jo-ann, Paul, Robert, Nicholas, Jessica, Michael, J.P. and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Dominque; a sister, Rosa Cecere Palazzo in Italy; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.
Domenic F. Pasculano
CROMWELL -- Domenic F. "Deke" Pasculano, 79, of 411 Rook Rd., died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, after a long illness.
He was born in Middletown, Feb. 16, 1923, son of the late Caesar and Appolonia (Checchini) Pasculano. He attended local schools and graduated from Middletown High School, class of 1940. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Division of United Technologies. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army and participated in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished artist. He was a member of VFW and the Disabled American Veteran's.
Domenic is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Mary Ann (Pulcinella) Pasculano of Meriden; a daughter, Joy Abrahamson of Manchester; a sister, Olga (Pasculano) Aresco of Middletown; his former wife, Teresa (Pasculano) Sprague of Rocky Hill; an uncle; aunt; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many good friends. He is predeceased by his dear companion, Therese Jacqueline Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. from the D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 South Main St., Middletown, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church. Burial with military honors will be in the State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Founders Plaza, East Hartford, or the charity of the donor's choice.
Peter J. Alia
OAKDALE -- Peter J. Alia, 57, of 14 Fire St., formerly of Meriden, was pronounced dead Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002.
He was born in Meriden, April 16, 1945, the son of the late James R. and Dorothy E. LaHaye Alia. He was a resident of Meriden most of his life. He had been employed by the O&G Construction Co., as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local No. 478 for 39 years. He was a member of the Meriden Elks Club, where he had served as past Exaulted Ruler.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jamie and Randall Porter of South Meriden, Jill Alia of Florida and Joy Alia DelRocco and her husband, Rick of Hollywood, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jason Alia and Arrilynne Alia; one sister and brother-in-law, Patricia A. and James Knell of Meriden; a special loyal companion, his dog, Taz; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and one nephew.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden. Interment will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, in Sacred Heart Cemetery
at 10 a.m.
