Walter E. Brunetti
WALLINGFORD -- Walter E. Brunetti, 78, formerly of Vaz Place, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at the Villages Regional Medical Center in Lady Lake, Fla. He was the beloved husband of Claire Brunetti and the late Mary Selvaggi Brunetti.
Born in Wallingford, Feb. 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Louis and Annette Francesconi Brunetti. He was a Wallingford resident until his retirement as owner of Brunetti's Luncheonette, a parishioner of St. Timothy Catholic Church, Lady Lake, Fla.; a golf starter at the Hilltop Golf Course in the Villages; a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Battery C 112th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion during World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.
He is survived by his beloved family, his daughter and son-in-law, Alice Brunetti-Saier and Otto R. Saier of Wallingford; his two grandchildren, Brian D. Saier and his wife, Kristen of Wallingford and Mary A. Saier of North Carolina; his two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Jonathan Saier; a sister, Delphina Merlone of Branford; a sister-in-law, Anna (Mrs. Louis) Brunetti of Wallingford; several nieces and nephews; and his extended family of five children; and ten grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Louis Brunetti; and sister, Caroline Escoto.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville, Friday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery
in Wallingford. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT. 06405. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext.
Alice S. White
MERIDEN -- Alice S. White, 82, of 224 Meadowbrook Road, Fairfield, died on Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. White had resided in the Fairfield area most of her life and was employed by SNET and Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company during World War II.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Lemay of Wallingford.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden. Friends may call at St. Andrew's Church prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492 or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Christine Grass
NEW BRITAIN -- Christine (Amsden) Grass, 85, of Jerome Home, New Britain died, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002. She was the widow of Donald L. Grass.
Born in Fort Fairfield, Maine, she lived in Southington from 1992 to 2002, when she returned to New Britain. She was a registered nurse and practiced at New Britain General Hospital, and also did private duty nursing until her retirement in 1990.
Surviving are two sons, Wayne Grass and his wife, Jean of New Britain and Peter Grass and his wife, Jeanne of Wells, Vt.; a daughter Judith Logan and her husband, Daniel of Southington; a sister, Fern Lewis of New Britain; six grandchildren, including Timothy Logan of Southington; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are Saturday at 10 a.m. in Kensington Baptist Church, 222 Lincoln Road, Kensington. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Memorial contributions may be made to Kensington Baptist Church or to a charity of donor's choice.
Mary DiNello
SOUTHINGTON -- Mary "Debbie" (Kloczko) DiNello, 72, of 44 Connecticut Ave., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at Southington Care Center. She was the wife of the late Albert P. DiNello.
Mary was born on April 27, 1930 in Southington, and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary (Kasparewicz) Kloczko. She was employed by The Metallurgic Group of Pratt and Whitney in Southington and East Hartford for 37 years as an executive secretary, retiring in 1986. She was also a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.
Mary is survived by her children, son, Bryan DiNello, and daughter, Denise and her husband, George Olson, all of Southington; granddaughter, Tanya Earley of Chicago, III.; and grandson, Paul DiNello of Middletown; brothers, Edward Klocko and Chester Kloczko and sisters, Wanda Klocko and Helen Turek, all of Southington; along with several nieces and nephews; and her dog, "Toto". She was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Klocko.
Her funeral will be on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Calling hours will be Saturday 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St., Southington. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Southington, CT. 06489.
Dorothy Fisher
NEW HAVEN -- Dorothy "Dolly" Fisher, 100, formerly of 116 Everit St., wife of the late Robert Sherman Fisher, died on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002.
A graveside service was held in Mishkan Israel Cemetery, New Haven, where she was buried next her husband. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
George Hannon
SOUTHINGTON -- George "Pepper" Hannon, 72, of 36 Westover Lane, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of late Patsy (Merritt) Hannon.
Born in Waterbury on Feb. 6, 1930, the son of the late George W. and Helen (Geghan) Hannon. A former resident of Waterbury, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Hannon was a former driver for Reymond Bakery in Waterbury, and had worked in sales most recently for Auto-Plus in Yalesville.
He is survived by seven children, Patricia Hannon-Murphy of Southington, Susan DeBisschop of Sparks, Nev., Ellen Hannon, Judy Hannon, Michael K. Hannon, Kimberly Kelly and Kelly Hannon, all of Southington; two sisters, Mary Hannon Edwards of Waterbury and Teresa Hannon of Southington; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St., Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn 38105.
George V. Verterame Sr.
WOLCOTT -- George V. Verterame Sr., 54, of Meadowbrook Lane, beloved husband of Marie (DeAngelo) Verterame, died on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Born in New York, N.Y., on March 27, 1948, son of the late Natale and Maria (Circosta) Verterame, he had resided in Wolcott for the past 29 years, having previously lived in Meriden. He had graduated from Wilcox Technical School, class of '68, and was the owner and operator of Vegal Polish & Buffing Company in Waterbury. Mr. Verterame was a former parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and a member of the Rat Pack Motorcycle Club of Waterbury.
Besides his wife, Marie, he is survived by two sons, George V. Verterame Jr. and Daniel M. Verterame, both of Wolcott; one sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Michael Grabiec of Meriden; one brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Cathleen Verterame of Paxton, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Burness Bacher
CHESHIRE -- Mrs. Burness (Crawford) Bacher, 83, of 344 Patton Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at her home. She was the wife of Frederick Traut and the widow of Roy C. Bacher.
A proud Canadian, Mrs. Bacher was born Sept. 7, 1919 in Duncan, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of the late Charles and Anne (Rear) Crawford and had also lived in Pittsburgh, Pa., before moving to Cheshire in 1963. She retired in 1984 a an accounting clerk with American Cyanamid.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Cynthia Cannon of Durham; two brothers, Calvin Crawford of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Clare Crawford of Ontario, Canada; and one grandson, Christopher Cannon of Durham.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the United Churches of Durham, 236 Main St., Durham, CT 06422. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franciscan Life Center, 271 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.
Raymond J. Blauvelt
SOUTHINGTON -- Raymond J. Blauvelt, 98, of West Center St., Ext., in Southington died Wednesday, Oct.9, 2002 at his home. He was the husband of the late Genevieve Payne Blauvelt.
Born Dec. 28, 1903 in Stony Point, N.Y., he was the son of the late Samuel and Agnes Johnson Blauvelt. Raymond lived in New Britain and Plainville for most of his life before moving to Southington 20 years ago. He retired from SNET in 1968. He served his country in the National Guard for many years, and was an avid baseball player, and bowler. He also had a special love for animals.
Raymond is survived by two sons, Roger Blauvelt of California and Raymond Blauvelt of Plainville; his three daughters, Carolyn Linsey of Kansas, Jean Blauvelt of Florida and Naomi Rudolph of Southington; also many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Spookie.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 12 noon in West Cemetery
on North Washington St., Plainville. There are no calling hours. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville has charge of arrangements. Donations in memory of Raymond may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
