Emma D'Eugenio

WALLINGFORD -- Emma Tramontano D'Eugenio, 93, of 15 Burke Heights Drive, Wallingford, formerly of Linden Ave., Hamden, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002. She was the widow of Joseph M. "D'Eugenio.

She was born in New Haven, April 26, 1909, the daughter of the late John and Frances Amato Tramontano.

She leaves a daughter, Joan Morico of Wallingford; a son, Joseph (Kathy) D'Eugenio of Cheshire; sisters, Florence "Babe: Riccio of Hamden and Palma Wallace of Branford; a brother, Daniel Tramontano of Cheshire; grandmother of Mrs. Keith (Theresa) Kennedy, Christopher (Faith) Morico, Mrs. Phil (Maria) Gaudette, Joseph M. D'Eugenio and Michael C. D'Eugenio; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Valentino, Gary, Vincent, Alphonse, Joseph and Alfred Tramontano.

Funeral Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Hamden at 11 a.m. Burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 8 to 10:30 a.m.

Edward H. Schiffer

TABYHANNA, Pa. -- Edward Harold Schiffer, 88, of Tobyhanna, Pa., died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 in the VNA Hospice at the Community Medical Center, Scranton, Pa. He was the husband of Barbara (Bradley) Schiffer.

Born in Meriden, son of the late Edward Herman and Olive (Diehm) Schiffer, he had resided at the Tobyhanna location since 1990, prior to that in Allentown, Pa., after moving from Meriden in 1961. Ed was a graduate of Meriden High School; the Bay Path Institute in Mass.; the American Institute School of Banking; and Graduate School of Banking. He was Assistant Treasurer and Secretary of the Meriden Savings Bank, Vice President of the Bank of Pennsylvania , Allentown, Pa., and owner of College Park Reality, Allentown, Pa. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Eighth Air Force in England as their Finance Officer. Ed was a member of Post 45 American Legion, Meriden and was their first World War II Commander and associate member of Post 859 American Legion, Newfoundland, Pa. Chairman and Organizer of the Red Cross Blood Bank in Meriden; Meriden Federation of Musicians; Meriden Lodge No. 77, A.F. & A.M. for 63 years and attended Salem Lodge No. 330, Hamlin, Pa.; Past President of the Travelers Protective Assoc., Allentown, Pa.; The Lions Club of Meriden and the Tobyhanna Newfoundland Lions Club Board of Directors and the LaAnna United Methodist Church. Pa. An accomplished musician, Ed had his own swing band prior to World War II and played piano at the Lehigh Valley Club, Bethlehem, Pa., and for the residents of local Nursing Homes. He was instrumental in saving the Christopher Wren Tower at the Center Congregational Church, Meriden, in the late 1950s.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, Ed is survived by two sons, Edward W. Schiffer of Miami Beach, Fla., and Bradley W. and his wife, Amy Schiffer of Naples, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Whitney Schiffer of Miami, Fla.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the LaAnna United Methodist Church, LaAnna, Pa. Rev. Nathan R. Gilpin officiating. Memorial remembrances may be made to The Building Fund of the LaAnna United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 142, South Sterling, Pa. 18460. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. in Gethsemane Cemetery, Meriden.

Joseph N. Guido Sr.

NORTH HAVEN -- Joseph N. Guido Sr., 66, of 8 Louis St., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at St. Raphael's Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Leona Raucci Guido.

Born in New Haven on April 11, 1936, son of the late Pasquale and Antoinette DiBuono Guido. A member of the Teamsters Local #443, he had worked for Kasden Fuel where he served as Chief Stewart for 30 years. He also worked for Hy's Livery Service and later worked for the Montowese Health & Rehabilitation Center until leaving due to illness. He was a member of the Montowese Volunteer Fire Association where he served on their Executive Board. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Wallingford Rod & Gun Club and the New Haven Sportsman Club. Joe was a humoristic, caring and devoted friend to many and he will be sadly missed. He was a Loving and Devoted father to Annette Guido of North Haven, Joseph N. Guido Jr. and his wife, Amy of Wallingford; a Loving and Caring Poppy to William J. Alexandra N. and Joseph N. Guido III; brother of John Guido and his wife, Gloria of North Haven.; brother-in-law of Salvatore and Mary Pappalardo of East Haven and Luella Banton of Powthan, Va.; and a Special Poppy to Caitlin Reardon.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Cabrini Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Lillian S. Risso

LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. -- Lillian S. Risso, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002.

She was born in Wallingford, Nov. 17, 1922, daughter of the late Louis and Mary Simon.

Survivors include her husband, William,; her daughter, Patricia A. Risso of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, William Jr. and his wife, Sharon of Rockville, Md.; a granddaughter, Eva Dubuisson; a brother, William Simon and his wife, Marilyn of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Huntley; and her brother, Louis J. Simon, Jr.

Committal services were held at In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford. Arrangements were under the direction of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. Memorial donations may be made to the CT. children's Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106.

Claire M. Gibson

WALLINGFORD -- Claire M. Farren Gibson, 76, beloved wife of Frank G. Gibson, Jr., of Jenna Road, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford.

Born in New Haven, Dec. 19, 1925, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen Glynn Farren, and had been a Wallingford resident for 50 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.

Besides her husband, Frank, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen M. and Joseph A. Rukstelis; her two sons and daughter-in-law, William F. Gibson, and Richard W. and Diane C. Gibson, all of Wallingford; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters; and one brother.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Road, Yalesville. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Hospice and Palliative Care, 33 North Plains Industrial Rd., Wallingford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main Street, Yalesville section of Wallingford.

Walter P. Kowalski

NEW BRITAIN -- Walter P. Kowalski, 86, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at New Britain General Hospital.

Walter was born in New Britain and was the son of the late Michael and Sophia (Piasecka) Kowalski. He worked as a body technician for Wilcox-Rau Chevrolet Co, and retired from AllState Insurance Co. Walter, in his fifties, enjoyed running in the Master's Division Road Races, also enjoyed boxing, attending Rock Cats games and his great-grandson's Little League games. Walter was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Holy Name Society.

Walter is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Edward M. and Nancy Kowalski of Southington; one daughter, Faith Marseli of New Britain; one brother, Albert Kowalski of Vernon; one sister, Mary Kolodiej of New Britain; five grandchildren, Freddie, Charie, David, Gary and Tammy; four great-grandchildren, Miguel, Reno, Lance, and Lauryn; several nieces and nephews and extended family. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Woszczyna) Kowalski.

Relatives and friends may call at The Paul A. Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Central CT, 205 W. Main St., New Britain, CT 06052, Holy Cross Church, 31 Biruta Street, New Britain, or American Cancer Society. Directions to funeral home are I-84-Exit 37 (Flenemann Rd.), right off exit-one mile down on right.

Paul Pedersen

NORTH HAVEN -- Paul "Buddy" Pedersen, 72, of 165 Clintonville Rd., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002.

He was the brother of Hazel Rentenauer of Cheshire and Peter C. Pedersen, Jr. of Wallingford. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, Monday morning at 10 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Hugo C. Reinhardt

BEVERLY HILLS, Fla. -- Hugo C. Reinhardt, 97, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in Lecanto, Fla.

He was born in Solingen, Germany, emigrating to the U.S. in 1926, settling in Meriden, moving to Beverly Hills, Fla. in 1984. He worked in cutlery and razor manufacturing, but after World War II, became a self-employed carpenter and cabinet maker. He was a longtime parishioner of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Meriden. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 13 at the church, starting in 1946 and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award in 1954 for promoting Boy Scout programs in Lutheran churches throughout the council area and for his leadership activities at conventions and camporees. In 1961 he received a National Scouting Scholarship for advanced training at Philmont, New Mexico. Additionally, he served on the Meriden Police Commissioner's Board. He was a Mason for over 70 years and an active member of the Meriden Lodge #77, A.F. & A.M., as well as the Arabian Shrine Club in Meriden. He was also a lifetime member of Sphinx Temple in Hartford, and a member of the Men's Fellowship of Beverly Hills Community Church.

He was predeceased by his wife, Amanda Bauchmann Reinhardt in 1980. He is survived by his very dear friend, Carol Choromanski of Beverly Hills, Fla.; nieces, Lydia S. Moody of Palm Harbor, Fla., U. Carla Reinhardt of Vernon, Conn.; one nephew, Peter K. Reinhardt of Santa Fe, new Mexico; a sister-in-law, Martha Reinhardt of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and many grand nephews and nieces.
