Albert P. Nugent

WALLINGFORD -- Albert P. Nugent, 74, of Colonial Hill Drive, Wallingford, husband of Jane Tomasulo Nugent, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., Jan. 22, 1928, he was a son of the late Albert and Anna Byrne Nugent. An avid golfer He had been member of the Wallingford Country Club for 25 years.

Besides his wife Jane, he is survived by three daughters, Pamela N. Fromme of Hebron, Karen N. Martone of Cheshire and Cynthia J. Springer of North Haven; his son, James M. Nugent of Trumbull; 11 grandchildren; and his sister, Eileen Vanderbeck of Troy, Mich. He was predeceased by a sister; and four brothers.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford, CT 06405.

Robert E. Sakowicz

KENSINGTON -- Robert E. Sakowicz, 66, of Kensington, passed away a long courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 at UConn Medical Center, Farmington. He was the loving husband for 47 years of Janice (Bukowski) Sakowicz of Kensington. He will be dearly missed by his beloved family, who loved, honored and respected him.

A devoted father and grandfather, he leaves three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Joyce Sakowicz of Haddam, Thomas and Teresa Sakowicz of Plantsville and Robert Sakowicz and his fiancee, Lera Wilson of East Haven; a daughter, Beth Sakowicz of Meriden; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brooke, Connor, Grant, Carly and Ava; he also leaves two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Rose Sakowicz and Richard and Mary Sakowicz, all of New Britain; and two sisters, Dorothy DiPinto and her husband, Vito of Berlin and Sister Mary Alma of the Daughters of the Immaculate Conception, New Britain; and many nieces and nephews. He was a great man, who never won a war, never made a law, or never composed a symphony. He was great because he was kind. He was great because he was humble and gentle.

His funeral services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association, CT Chapter, 4 Oxford Road, Unit D, 1-2, Milford, CT 06460. Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain is serving the family.

Rhonda Wheeler

MERIDEN -- Rhonda (Dwyer) Wheeler, 59, of Meriden passed into the arms of the Lord on Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, surrounded by her family at Meriden Center.

She was born on Aug. 15, 1943 in Providence, R.I., a daughter of the late John and Eunice (Hughes) Dwyer. Rhonda was a graduate of South Kingstown High School, class of 1962. She worked many years at Olympus Health Care in Meriden caring for others.

Rhonda was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and sister, she leaves four daughters and two sons-in-law, Christine and Dan Baril of Meriden, Kimberly Wheeler of Meriden, Paula and Rob Robinson of Perryville, R.I. and Nanci Chasse of Meriden; a brother, Jay Dwyer of Ledyard; and a sister and brother-in-law, Michela and David Chappell of Richmond, R.I.; six grandchildren, Bret Siegel, Danielle, Melissa and Jason Baril, Melanie Chasse and Alex Robinson; a niece and nephews, Haley and John Chappell.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden. A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Edmond S. Nadolny of St. Stanislaus Church officiating. Burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Old Colony Road in Meriden. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers contributions be made in her memory to the MidState VNA & Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Dianne Yanotchko

VERNON -- Dianne (Schinitis) Yanotchko, 58, of Vernon, wife of Joseph Yanotchko, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, after a long and courageous battle with Breast Cancer.

Born in New Britain, Nov. 26, 1943, she was the daughter of Edward and Yvette (Mailloux) Schinitis of Meriden. She attended school in Meriden, graduating from Platt High School in 1961. She graduated from Central Connecticut State College and received her Master's degree from the University of Connecticut. Dianne was employed as a teacher at the Vernon Center-Middle School 31 years prior to her retirement in 1999. She was an avid gardener and traveler.

Dianne also leaves her sons and daughter-in-law, David and Laura Yanotchko of Hoboken, N.J., and Daniel Yanotchko of Vernon; her sisters and brother-in-law, Donna Schinitis, Ann and Ed Lacy, all of Meriden; her brothers and sister-in-law, Edward Jr. and Barbie Schinitis of Plainville and John Schinitis of Meriden.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 23, with burial in St. Bernard Cemetery, Vernon. Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Francis Hospital Cancer Center, 140 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105.

Edgar J. Brainerd

PLAINVILLE -- Edgar J. Brainerd, 78, formerly of Meriden, husband of Virginia (Lauder) Brainerd of Wallingford, died after a long illness on Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Plainville Health Care Center, which was his home for the past eight years.

Born in Meriden on June 8, 1924, he was the son of the late Reginald and Mary Elizabeth (Carter) Brainerd. He resided all his life in Meriden until he became a patient at Plainville Health Care Center. He attended Meriden schools and the Hartford Art School of Fashion. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked for many years at Allegheny Ludlum in Wallingford. He was a drummer in many local bands, such as the Johnny Solek Band and Krakowska Band. He was a member of the Haddam Historical Society and Founders and Patriots. His ancestors were one of the original founders of Haddam and he was a genealogy enthusiast.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Judith (Brainerd) Kizilski and her husband, Robert of Southington, Nancy Brainerd of Anchorage, Alaska and Marcia Brainerd of Plantsville; five grandchildren, Michael and Peter Kizilski, Christine Delgado, Lara and Jared Kosky; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Alyssa Kizilski; a brother, Stanley Brainerd of Gray, Maine; a sister, Mabel Wilbur of Henrietta, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

We would like to extend our thanks to the staff of Plainville Health Care Center for their compassion and care.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 20 Caitlin St., Meriden. The Rev. Anne Jensen will officiate. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.

Stephanie A. Carpenter

MERIDEN -- Stephanie A. Carpenter, 50, of East Main St., died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

She was born March 2, 1952 in Providence, R.I., a daughter of Clarence Carpenter and the late Mary Kelly Carpenter.

Besides her father, she is survived by her brother, John Carpenter of Meriden; two nephews, Jonathan and Derrick Carpenter; and several aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.

Faustina H. Clark

WALLINGFORD -- Faustina H. Clark, 85, of the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, Wright Residence, formerly of 30 King St., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at New Britain General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harold Clark.

She was born in Ft. Fairfield, Maine, Aug. 7, 1917, a daughter of the late Herman and Avis Nightingale Ginn. Until her retirement, she worked in the packing department at Stanley-Judd for 29 years.

She is survived by a brother, Charles Ginn of Auburn, Maine; two sisters, Norma Graves of Presque Isle, Maine and Phyllis Shaw of Caribou, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, John Ginn.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Dwinald S. Lint Sr.

WALLINGFORD -- Dwinald S. Lint Sr., 66, of Durham Road died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at his home. He was the husband of Ellen (Rae) Higgins Lint.

He was born in Mapleton, Maine, July 24, 1936, son of the late Merrill and Beatrice Archer Lint. Until his retirement, he was employed as an operating engineer for Tilcon. Mr. Lint was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wallingford, the former North Haven Rotary Rifle Club and former member of Temple sweethearts square dance club. Mr. Lint loved to dance and camp.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Dwinald S. Lint Jr. and his fiancee, Cynthia Fleming of Tempe, Ariz., Randall A. Lint and his wife, Deborah of Meriden and Richard W. Lint and his wife, Susan of Wallingford; a daughter, Cheryl Lint of Wallingford; 12 grandchildren, Dwinald S. Lint lll and his wife, Goldie, Christopher, Andy, Ricky, Veronica, Jacob, Amanda, Kimberly, Billy, Chris, Nick and Sean. He was predeceased by a brother, Adrian Lint.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If friends so desire, gifts in his memory may be made to the CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or Asthma-American Lung Association of CT, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.

Louis H. Simone

SOUTHINGTON -- Louis H. Simone, 91, of 250 West Center St., died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Mary (D'Amato) Simone.

He was born in Southington on Feb. 14, 1911, the son of the late Joseph and Rose (DeAngelo) Simone. He was a U.S. Army-Air Force veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement he and his brothers started the Simone Brothers Oil Co. which they ran for many years. Mr. Simone was a member of Southington's first Town Council. He was a former member of the Republican Town Committee, a Life member of UNICO, a charter member of the Southington Elks Lodge, a member of the American Legion, a former member of the Redman Club and Sons of Italy. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and card player. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Vito Pesce of Southington and Karen and Raymond Angelo of Cheshire; five grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Donna Pesce, Alisa and her husband, Scott Neely, Aimee Pesce, Jesse Angelo and Nathan Angelo; two great-granddaughters, Isabella and Eve Neely; a brother, Michael Simone; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Joseph Leach, and Helen and Arthur DellaVecchia, all of Southington; a brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Rita D'Amato; sisters-in-law, Rose L. Simone and Ann D'Amato; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, George, James, Anthony and Andrew; and sisters, Josephine Miranda, Anna Simone and Carmelia DellaVecchia.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Neely Cancer Foundation, 30 Winter St., Boston, MA, 02108.
