Barbara Ferguson

CHESHIRE -- Mrs. Barbara (Allen) Ferguson, 82, formerly of 64 Stony Hill Road, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the widow of Marshall F. Ferguson.

Mrs. Ferguson was born in New Haven on July 3, 1920, a daughter of the late Lester and Barbara (Malloy) Allen and had spent most of her early life in Hamden, moving to Cheshire in 1962. She was a 1938 graduate of Hamden High School and in 1940 she received her associates degree in home economics from Beaver College in Allen, Pa. She also played basketball and field hockey for the college. Mrs. Ferguson was also a resident counsel at Highland Health Care in Cheshire.

She leaves three sons, Marshall A. Ferguson of Penfield, N.Y., Keith L. Ferguson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Neil F. Ferguson of Yucaipa, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Diane Waller of Cheshire; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Marshall F. Ferguson.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., Cheshire. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450.

Richard Morris

STAMFORD -- Richard Morris, 77, a long time Stamford resident passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at the Greenwich Woods Health Care Center due to Alzheimer's. He was the husband of the late Edna Cutler Morris.

Born in Meriden on Oct. 31, 1925, he was the son of the late Charles A. Nott and Helen Elizabeth Morris. Mr. Morris was a World War II veteran, he was an Army Air Corp 2nd Lieutenant. He later graduated the University of Connecticut in 1951 with a Bachelors degree in Agricultural Engineering. Mr. Morris was the owner and operator of Richard Morris Inc., in Stamford from 1951 to 1993. He was an active member of the North Stamford Congregational Church. He was a Trustee for many years and later was an honorary trustee for the Church.

Mr. Morris is survived by his daughter, DJ Shaw of New Milford; a son, Kenneth Morris of Danbury, son, Richard Morris of Plymouth, son, David Morris of Stamford, daughter, Linda Hazzard of Bethel, and daughter, Kathy Morris of Stamford; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 8 at the Bouton & Reynolds Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. A graveside service will be held at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden Thursday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 a.m. at the North Stamford Congregational Church, 31 Cascade Road, Stamford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 607 Main Ave., Norwalk, CT.

George J. Serencko

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. -- George John Serencko, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 in Fort Collins, Colo. He was the husband of Janice Serencko.

Born June 6, 1945 in Bristol, a son of the late Michael and Barbara Serencko. He attended Bristol Eastern High School, Bristol; class of 1963, Norwich University, Northfield, Vt.; graduated 1967 as commissioned officer in the Army, University of New Haven graduate school, New Haven, class of 1975. He served in Vietnam in 1968-1970, Corps of Engineers. He was employed at Metcalf & Eddy Engineers, Boston, Mass from 1967 to 1968; Family business, Forestville Industrial Plating, Southington, from 1970-1971; City of Meriden, city engineer from 1972 to 1977; City of Steamboat Springs, Colo., city engineer/public works director from 1977 to 1980 and Civil Design Consultants, Steamboat Springs, Colo., partner, from 1980 to present.

He is survived by sons, Christopher of Denver, Colo., and Matthew and his wife, Amber of Las Vegas, Nev.; and one brother, Michael of Plymouth.

Celebration of Life service will be held Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at Depot in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

T. Vassilopoulus

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. -- Mr. T. "Theo" Vassilopoulus, 84, a summer resident of Old Saybrook and winter resident of Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away suddenly while in route to Boynton Beach, Fla., on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002.

Theo was born April 9, 1918 in Karocus, Greece. An only child to T. Leon and Olympic (Protsenko) Vassilopoulus. Theo was in the Import and Export business for many years. Having one point Five Ships. He enjoyed life to the fullest. Retiring from the shipping business in 1978. He received an honorary Doctorate degree from NYC Business School for his unbelievable knowledge of the shipping industry. Theo was proud of having the pleasure of buying a brand new black Cadillac Sedan DeVille every year since 1952.

He is survived by a daughter, Olympia and her husband, Dr. Leon Tomolonius of Manhattan, N.Y.

Theo will be placed next to his parents in the family Mausoleum in Karocus, Greece on Dec. 19. In his memory donation can be made to any Greek Orthodox Church. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden has been entrusted with the arrangements in the United States.

Salvatore Verselli

WALLINGFORD -- Salvatore Verselli, 79, of 81 Ridgecrest Road, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Masonic Healthcare Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Emily Kaminski Verselli.

Born in Meriden, June 9, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank and Rose Papallo Verselli. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was awarded the Purple Heart and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He had been employed at the former International Silver Company, Factory E and later at the Masonic Home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wallingford and had been a member of the former Grace Baptist Church in Meriden.

He is survived by three daughters, Joyce and Steve Chessher of Cleveland, Georgia, Laura Verselli of Meriden and Ione and Jose Hernandez of Meriden; a son, Mark and Mary Verselli of Wallingford; four grandchildren, Emily and Rachel Hernandez of Meriden and Michael and Matthew Verselli of Wallingford; a sister, Georgette and Philip D'Amico of Meriden; a sister-in-law, Jennie Verselli of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel Verselli and Frank Verselli Jr.; and a sister, Mary Prica.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Wallingford, 114 No. Main St., Wallingford. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Connecticut, 33 No. Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Irish Walker

MERIDEN -- Irish Walker, 37, of 121 Lincoln St., died on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.

Born in Waterbury on March 17, 1965, he resided in Meriden for several years and attended Southington schools.

Besides his mother, Ann Cyr of Meriden, he is survived by his sister, Katherine Cyr of Wallingford; two brothers, Kevin Walker and Brendan Carlson, both of Meriden; his aunt and uncle, Rita and William Keegan of Southington; his maternal grandmother, Katherine Cyr of Southington; he also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Cyr.

A private funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Frank Brown

CHESHIRE -- Frank Brown, 89, of 349 Lincoln Drive, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington after a long illness. He was the husband of Lois Ella (Hacking) Brown.

Mr. Brown was born Nov. 30, 1913 in Fall River, Mass., son of late John Thomas Brown and Sarah (Ratcliff) (Slater) Brown. He graduated from Fall River High School and the Bristol County Agricultural School in Massachusetts. He and his wife owned and operated the Pine Hill Poultry Farm and Hatchery in Milldale for 27 years. He later worked at the Cheshire Academy. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire and the Southington Grange.

Besides his wife of 63 years, he leaves two nephews; and a niece in California. He was predeceased by a brother, Lincoln Brown of California.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Drive. Burial will be at the convenience of his family in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River, Mass. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home, 615 S. Main St., Cheshire is in charge of arrangements.

Muriel Salter

MERIDEN -- Muriel Kucinkas Salter, 92, of 320 Colony St., Meriden, wife of the late Kenneth Salter and the late Joseph Kucinkas, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 at the Bradley Home after a brief illness.

Born in Maspeth, N.Y., on April 24, 1910, the daughter of the late Myron and Florence Boudreau Lee, she attended local schools and was a Meriden resident for most of her life.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Carolyn Kucinkas, Neil and Pat Kucinkas, Chris and Jan Kucinkas and Lee and Linda Salter; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Thelma Knop; and two brothers, Ronald and Lawrence Lee.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden with Rev. Perry L. Beaver officiating. Burial will be private. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Bradley Home, 320 Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Bertram A. Ashworth Sr.

WALLINGFORD -- Bertram A. Ashworth Sr., 77, of 5 Ridge Road, Wallingford, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Janet L. Strachan Ashworth.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services Monday at 10 a.m. in the Faith Living Church, Plantsville. The Rev. Joe Stublarek, Pastor, will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Faith Living Church, 20 Grove St., Plantsville, CT 06489. A complete obituary notice will appear in Friday's Record Journal.
