Nellie H. Scalf

EAST HAMPTON -- Nellie Helen (Hill) Scalf, 84, of East Hampton, widow of Melvin Scalf, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at the Middlesex Hospital.

She was born in Norwich, and was employed at Stars Dept. Store. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Annie (McGuire) Hill. She was a member of Women's Auxiliary of Tracy Fire Dept. in Wallingford and the Women's Auxiliary of Our Lady of Fatima in Yalesville, and was a member of St. Patrick's Church in East Hampton.

She is survived by four daughters, Theresa and husband, William Brixius of North Carolina, Nancy and husband, Phillip Ardito of North Branford, Diane and husband, Joseph Tkacz III of Meriden, Debbie and husband, Kenneth Johnson of Virginia. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Maryan Scalf; also two sisters, Theresa Lindquist of Cromwell and Mary Hill Huber of Florida; a special niece, Pat and husband, William Schwarm of East Hampton; also eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, East Hampton where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Friends may call at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Friends wishing may send contributions to Middlesex Hospice, c/o Middlesex Hospital Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.

Bertha S. Wiltsie

SOUTHINGTON -- Bertha Sarah Bemiss Wiltsie, 103, formerly of Carter Lane in Southington died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 at Meriden Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Stewart Wiltsie.

Born in Southington, Dec. 6, 1899, daughter of the late Harry Bemiss and Lena Vogt Bemiss, she had been a lifelong Southington resident. Mrs. Wiltsie was a member of Plantsville Congregational Church and the Women's Relief Corp.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Theda and Vincent Crookes of Southington; three grandchildren, David Crookes, Robert Crookes and his wife, Marceille and Susan Crookes; three great-grandchildren, Trevor V. Crookes, Chad T. Crookes and Joseph Mushrall; cousins, Marion Vogt of New Britain, George Vogt of Burlington and Ormond Vogt of Sandy, Utah. She was predeceased by her sister, Mildred Anderson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Anthony F. Yamashita

WALLINGFORD -- Anthony F. Yamashita, 43, of North Elm St., Wallingford, formerly of Meriden, beloved husband of Jodi D. Batchelder Yamashita, died unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at their home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Huntsville, Ala., April 9, 1959, a beloved son of Fred H. Yamashita Sr. and Addie G. Cobble Yamashita of Meriden. He had been employed by Walbro Automotive in Meriden as a Chemical Technician. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Meriden and had served as a volunteer for the Friends of the Meriden Public Library.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by his sisters and brother, Brenda J. Niemann and her husband, Daryle Niemann of Maple Grove, Minn., Fred H. Yamashita Jr. of Meriden, Karen L. Yamashita of New Britain and Janice G. Yamashita of Meriden; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Laurence H. and Leanne Batchelder and his grand mother-in-law, Helen Stankiewicz, all of Meriden; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext. Wallingford, Sunday, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday from the Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Joseph's Church, West Main St., Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.

Francis Zimmer

MERIDEN -- Francis "Frank" Zimmer, 64, of Fremont St., died unexpectantly on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Karen (Stange) Zimmer.

He was born Aug. 2, 1938 in Meriden, the son of the late Richard and Amelia (Lewis) Zimmer.

Frank was a 1958 graduate of Meriden High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict as a signalman. He was a member of the American Legion Post 45, the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 189, a long-standing member of Post 72 Color Guard of Southington and the PBA of Meriden. He was a 1998 retiree with over 25 years of service as a welder for Stanley Work of New Britain and at the time of his passing he worked for Storts Welding of Meriden. Frank was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing.

Besides his wife, Karen, he is survived by a son, Michael Zimmer of Southington; a daughter, Linda and husband, Brian Nagel of Wallingford; two brothers, his twin, Richard Zimmer Jr. of North Haven and Les Zimmer of Southington; a sister, Cindi Gagliardi of Southington; two granddaughters, Nikki and Danielle DeNicola of Wallingford; two best friends, Chip Geriak and Butch Bukowski; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will follow at the State Veteran Cemetery in Middletown. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, Tenn 38105.

Edith B. Zuroski

WALLINGFORD -- Edith B. Goss Zuroski, 86, of Loring Court, Wallingford, formerly of North Haven, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, Wallingford. Wife of the late Stanley T. Zuroski.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Feb 3, 1916, daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha Bramble Goss. A graduate of the former Grace New Haven School of Nursing, she was the owner and operator of the former North Haven Flower Shop and the Easy Ceramic Studio of North Haven. She was the program director for the Parkview Convalescent Home. She was a volunteer at the Wallingford Senior Center having taught quilting and was Senior of the Year four times at the center.

She was a mother of Mrs. Joan Mangino and husband, Joseph, Dorothy Facin Maisto and husband, Anthony, Lorraine Pisani and husband, Ralph and the late Marion Cerbie; sister of Frances Carlson; also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters, Lorraine Goss, Dorothy Coogan, Hazel Pesty; and a step-brother, Harry Vendetto.

Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the North Haven Center Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to time of service. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

Deborah Bradley

NOKOMIS, Fla. -- Deborah Malone Bradley, 90, of Nokomis Fla., beloved wife of the late Robert B. Bradley, formerly of Hamden, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in the Venice Florida Hospital.

Born in Hamden, July 12, 1912, a daughter of the late James E. and Deborah Benedict Malone, she had been a Hamden resident for many years until moving to Florida in 1964.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah B. and Richard F. Fitzsimmons of Wallingford and Susan L. and James Nobles of Syracuse, N.Y.; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Dianne T. Bradley of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Allen Malone and Royce Malone.

Funeral services and interment will be private In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford.

Rosinna S. Coyle

WALLINGFORD -- Rosinna S. Vozzella Coyle (also known as Roseanne Coyle,) 82, formerly of Bella Vista, Eastern St., New Haven and a 30 year resident of Wallingford died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

She was cared for by her son-in-law and daughter, Charles and Lucille (Coyle) Timothy and Cindy (Coyle) Waters for 20 years. She leaves the remaining grandchildren, Lisa, Scott and Charles III, also Michele and Anne of Maine; great-grandchildren, Scott Jr., Charles IV, Ethan, Derek and Britan.

A Mass will be said Saturday, Dec. 28, at St Vincent de Paul Church, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private at St Johns Cemetery. Donations can be made to DeKovan House, Washington Ave., Middletown CT 06457 and Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford.

Raimondo DeAngelo

TORRINGTON -- Raimondo (Raymond) DeAngelo, 77 of Hillside Ave., Torrington, died Thursday, Dec. 19,. 2002 at the home of his daughter. He was the husband of the late Bertha Driscoll DeAngelo.

Born Jan. 25, 1925 in Torrington, he was the son of the late Antonio and Clementine DeAngelo. He worked at the Torin Corporation as a Tool & Die Maker until his retirement in 1976. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and he was a member of the Sons of Italy.

He is survived by his daughter, Rachael Rosengrant of Meriden; three brothers, Charles DeAngelo of Winsted, Tillio DeAngelo and Weed DeAngelo of Torrington; three sisters, Lucy DeAngelo, Emily Johnson and Nan Milak, all of Torrington; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, David Anthony DeAngelo; two brothers, Louis DeAngelo and Ernesto DeAngelo; and three sisters, Anna Rossi, Elsie DiLullo and Yolanda Morse.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. from the LaPorta Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington to St. Peter Church, East Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Dec. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the LaPorta Funeral Home.(www.laportafuneralhome.com) Memorial contributions may be made to the Meriden VNA Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Eugenia A. Giannini

WILLINGTON -- Eugenia Ann Giannini, 61, of 77 Latham Road, Willington, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 at MidState Medical Center, Meriden. She had lived in Connecticut since 1989, prior to which she lived in Pittsfield.

Born in Springfield, Mass., July 27, 1941, a daughter of Nicholas R. and Carmella D. Ronco Saracino, she was a 1959 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1961 graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield. A Licensed Practical Nurse, Mrs. Giannini was first employed at St. Like's Hospital in Pittsfield and then at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield for 18 years. She was employed four years at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, and then as a private duty nurse. She retired in 2002. She was a communicant of St. Jude's Church in Willington, and while in Pittsfield, she was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She enjoyed crafts, baking, cooking and gardening.

Mrs. Giannini leaves her husband Richard N. Giannini, whom she married July 30, 1989; a son, Dino Perego of Hinsdale, Mass.; a daughter, Carrie A. Salvatore of Washington , Mass.; a sister, Merry C. Van Bramer of Pittsfield, Mass.; two step-sons, Bryan Giannini of York, Pa., and Stephen Giannini of Meriden; a step-daughter, Barbara Mozeliak of Lancaster, Pa.; and 14 grandchildren; and her mother and father-in-law, Nello and Rose Giannini of Cheshire; and her sister-in-law, Nora Vetro of North Carolina.

Funeral services for Mrs. Giannini will be held Monday, Dec. 23, at 9:15 a.m. from Dery Funeral Home with a liturgy of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, celebrated by Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, c.c.s., Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday, Dec. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Giannini may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, Mass. 01201.
