Elsie McCann

SOUTHINGTON -- Elsie Smith McCann, 97, formerly of 3 Darling St., died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Southington Care Center. She was the widow of Joseph W. McCann.

Born in Holyoke, Mass., the daughter of the late John J. and Bridget (Meany) Smith. She was a former resident of Stafford Springs and New York City. Mrs. McCann graduated from Westfield Normal School in Westfield, Mass. She originally started teaching school in 1926 in Glastonbury and in 1951 began teaching again in Old Greenwich, St. Mary's and then in Ellington. She was a parishioner of St. Dominic Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Cecilia "Sally" McCann of Southington; a brother, Charles S. Smith of New Rochelle, N.Y.; two sisters, Anastasia Keane of North Carolina and Mary McInerney of Yonkers, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Cecilia "Lee" Danajovits, Carla H. Danajovits, both of Cheshire and Joseph and his wife, Laurie Danajovits of Canton.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Dominic Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Ellington Cemetery, Ellington. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

John J. Rochette

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- John Joseph Rochette, 88, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at the Hoosier Village Retirement Center, Indianapolis, where he and his wife, Elizabeth Jane (Wall) Rochette had been living since 1997.

He was born Aug. 3, 1914, in New Bedford, Mass. He worked as a Supervisor of Quality Control at New Departure-Hyatt, General Motors, Sandusky, Ohio, retiring in 1978, after 45 years of service. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky. A veteran of World War II, he served in he Sea Bees, a branch of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jane Rochette; three daughters, Susan Marie Crawley of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Patricia Lynn Viering, Carmel, Ind., and Elizabeth Ann Miller of New market, N.H.; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Crawley and Patrick and Madison Viering. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Sharon Ann; two sisters, Marie (Rochette) Hines and Kathleen(Rochette) Yanelli; and two brothers, William and Joseph.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Ransom Funeral Home, 610 So. Washington St., Castalia, Ohio. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 1605 W. Jefferson St., Sandusky, Ohio. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Contributions may be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky 44870 or to the Ohio Parkinson Foundation, 12740 Twp Road 114, Fostoria, Ohio 44830.

Andrea L. Silva

MERIDEN -- Andrea Lynn Silva, 26, of Curtis St., Meriden, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 in Meriden.

Born in Meriden, June 17, 1975, a daughter of Edward S. Silva of Palm Bay, Fla., and the late Margaret L. Parkin Barrows, she was a lifelong Meriden resident.

Besides her father, she is survived by her step-father, James Wright Barrows of Meriden; her step-mother, Patricia Silva of Palm Bay, Fla.; her sisters, Robin Balogh and her husband, Scott, Wynonia Barrows and Jamie Keegan and her husband, Robert, all of Meriden; her brother, Edward Silva of Meriden; her nieces, Ashley Balogh, Kassandra Keegan and Amanda Keegan; and her nephews, Brendan Silva and Zachary Silva.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Monday from 6 to 7 p.m.. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Joyce Yeske, Chaplain of the Hospice and Palliative Care officiating. Interment will be private.

Charles W. Slie

BRADFORD, Vt. -- Charles W. Slie, 72, of 241 Chelsea Road, formerly of 353 South Cherry St., Wallingford died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 surrounded by his wife and family at Cottage Hospital in North Haverhill, N.H. He was the husband of Joanne Lepack Slie.

He was born in Wallingford, June 21, 1930, a son of the late Robert and Sadie Appell Slie. He had been a self-employed masonry contractor for many years. Mr. Slie was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He had been a Wallingford resident all his live until moving to Vermont in 1989. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bradford, Vt., and a former communicant of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles (Chuck) Slie and his wife, Theresa and Lester (Tucker) Slie and his wife, Katharine, both of Bradford, Vt.; four daughters, Lucille Slie of Wallingford, Debra Horniak and her husband, John of Louisa County, Va., Donna Wilson and her husband, Jack of South Meriden, Sue Sarno and her husband, Joe of Meriden; three brothers, Robert Slie Jr. of New Mexico, Lester Slie of Wallingford and Donald Slie of Westminster, Vt.; three sisters, Shirley Stevens and Evelyn Simon, both of Wallingford and Harriet Augur of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur Slie and Raymond Slie; and two sisters, Virginia Wuskle and Mildred Derouin.

The funeral will leave the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford on Monday, Jan. 13, at 9:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Jan. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. If friends so desire, gifts in his memory may be made to American Diabetes Association, CT Affiliate, Inc., 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450, or David's House at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Dr., Lebanon, N.H. 03756 or Cottage Hospital P.O. Carmen L. Rolon

MERIDEN -- Carmen Lydia (Perez) Rolon, 63, of Willow Street, widow of Raul S. Rolon, died Wednesday, Jan. 8th at MidState Medical Center. She was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Juan and Marcolina (Hernandez) Perez. She was a member of the Christian Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by three sons, Norman Velez and Ruben Rolon, both of Meriden, and Raul Rolon of Wallingford; two daughters, Sylvia Torres of New York and Sonia Velez of Meriden; five brothers, Efrain Perez of Florida, Raul and Gilbert Perez, both of Puerto Rico, Juan Perez of New York and Victor Perez of Nevada; two sisters, Francisca Torres of North Carolina and Mary Perez of New York. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Brenda Parra, Cindy Muriel, Sabrina Ortiz, Krystal Pizarra, Erica Rolon, Andrew Velez, Oswall Torres, Priscilla Torres, Amanda Velez, Robert Garcia, Brandon Rolon and Celest Rolon; and three great-grandchildren, Edward Parra, Mariah Molina and Mitchell Parra. She was predeceased by a sister, Mercedes Hernandez.

Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience to the family. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 14th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden. Donations may be made to the family in Carmen's memory.

Charles W. Slie

WALLINGFORD -- Charles W. James E. Casner

SOUTHINGTON -- James E. Casner, 73, of De Fashion St. in the Plantsville section of Southington, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Yale New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband for 51 years of Pauline Bassola Casner.

Born in New Haven, the son of the late Edson and Mary Beirne Casner, Jim had been a longtime Southington resident. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. Jim retired from Hostess Wonderbread after 18 years of service. He was a member of the Calendar House and of the AARP. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his sense of humor, his loving and caring nature and dedication to his family.

In addition to his wife, Pauline, Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Sandra Casner of Maryland; two daughters, Pamela Casner of Plantsville and Luanne and her husband, Paul Borawski of Southington; three brothers, Robert Casner of Kensington, Edward Casner and George Casner, both of Cheshire; three sisters, Katherine Daddio of New York, Nancy Adams of Plantsville and Dorothy Riccio of Southington; ten grandchildren, Amy, Christopher, Michael, Jennifer, Timothy, James, Ashley, P.J., Ryan and Kyle; two great-grandchildren, Delilah and Gianna; his mother-in-law, Natalie Bassola; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John Casner.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to Mass. General Hospital, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114, Yale New Haven Hospital, 20 York St., New Haven, CT 06504, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450.

Frances J. Endee

MERDEN -- Frances J. (Kernan) Endee, 85, of Meriden and Windsor, beloved wife of Albert C. Endee, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, surrounded by her family at her home.

Born in Windsor, daughter of the late Edward J. and Rebecca (Clark) Kernan, she lived in Windsor until moving to Meriden in 1990. A 1935 graduate of John Fitch High School, she received her BA from Simmons College in 1939 and had been Corporate Secretary of Edward J. Kernan & Company in Windsor for many years. Active in community affairs, she was a member of the Abigail Wolcott Ellsworth Chapter D.A.R., past Secretary of the Windsor Library Association and a member of the Simmons Club. Mrs. Endee was an accomplished pianist and an avid reader and traveler.

She leaves her husband of 62 years, Albert C. Endee; a son, Edward K. and his wife, Lucie Williams-Endee of Broad Brook; two daughters, Mary Lou and her husband, David Peters of Windsor; and Sister Mary Elizabeth Endee of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist of Meriden; four grandchildren, Zachary K. and his wife, Jenifer Peters, Blake M. Peters, Mark S. and Scott M. Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Sheena E. and Justin M. Williams.

Family and friends may gather Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Poquonock. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Windsor. Her family will receive friends, Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, 405 Allen Avenue, Meriden, CT 06451.

John J. Jevelle

WALLINGFORD -- John J. Jevelle, 59, beloved husband of Arlene Paskey Jevelle, of Nod Brook Road, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven after a brief illness.

Born in Shendandoah, Penn., Jan. 26, 1943, a son of the late John D. and Florence Mazurkiewicz Jevelle, he had been a Wallingford resident for 31 years. He had been employed by Marlin Firearms in North Haven for over 30 years, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection, and had been an instructor for the religious education program of the parish and a former member of the church choir. He had been a former member of the Wallingford Jaycees, and a Connecticut Jaycees Statesman, a former coach with the Wallingford Youth Soccer League and a member of the Wallingford Adult Softball League for many years.

Besides his wife, Arlene, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christine J. and Robert A. Babcock, V. of Wallingford; his son, Paul D. Jevelle of Whiteriver, Ariz.; his granddaughter, Emily Mae Babcock; his sister, Joan M. Hemerick of Ringtown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews, including, Eva M. McClafferty.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.

Marlene A. Tomms

WALLINGFORD -- Marlene A. Kemp Tomms, 70, of New Place Street, Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

Born in Bristol, Vt., Sept. 25, 1932, a daughter of the late John D. and Grave Puritan Kemp, she was raised and resided in Southington for many years, had been a Meriden resident for several years and a Wallingford resident for over 20 years. She was employed by the former Times Wire and Cable Company of Wallingford for over 27 years and had been a member of the Good News Christian Center in Wallingford.

She is survived by her three daughters and son-in-law, Diane R. Tomms of Yalesville, Deborah F. Tetreault of Wallingford, and Sandra L. and Michael G. Dobbs of Arkansas; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed A. and Terri Tomms and George F. and Kelly Tomms, all of Wallingford; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Dorothy Cyr of East Hampton and Beverly Briatico of Bristol; and her two brothers, John Doyle, Jr. of Southington and Ralph Kemp of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Natalie Coss.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main Street, Yalesville section of Wallingford, Monday , from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Yalesville Funeral Home, Monday evening, at 7:15 p.m. with Rev. Joseph DeAngelo, Pastor of the Good News Christian Center, officiating. Interment will be in Center Street Cemetery, in Wallingford, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
