Margaret Lamb
SOUTHINGTON -- Margaret "Midge" Lamb, 74, of Willow Street, Cheshire, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at home.
Born in Southington, July 28, 1928, daughter of the late George and Josephine Borek Lamb, she graduated from local schools and had been a longtime Cheshire resident. "Midge" worked at Allied Control in Southington, retiring after 50 years. She was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church, Cheshire.
She is survived by a very dear friend, Margaret Burns of Cheshire; two sisters-in-law, Maryann Lamb and Sue Lamb, both of Southington; one niece, Lori Armstrong; one nephew, J. Allen Lamb; and five great-nieces. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and George Lamb; and one nephew, Michael Lamb.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 9 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget's Church, Cheshire. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
C. George Slobko
MERIDEN -- C. George Slobko, 60, of Meriden, husband of the late Eugenia (Jean) Slobko, died on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Meriden on Oct. 11, 1942, he was the son of Victoria (Zayac) Slobko of Wallingford and the late Clem Slobko. He had resided in Meriden most of his life, and was educated in the Meriden schools, The Hartford Institute and West Palm Beach, Fla. Mr. Slobko was employed by J.J. Ryan Co. of Southington. He served with the Connecticut National Guard.
He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer K. Slobko of Meriden; one sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and John J. Kruczek of Wallingford; also survived by two nephews.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, with Rev. Timothy Lowe of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. A Panahida service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ernst Kuhr
SOUTHINGTON -- Ernst Kuhr, 96, of Frost St., Plantsville section of Southington died Thursday, Feb. 6. 2003 at Southington Care Center, Southington. He was the beloved husband for 65 years of Johanna "Dora" Richter Kuhr.
Born in Borgstedt, Germany, Nov. 11, 1906, son of the late Hans Friedrich and Maria Katharina Danker Kuhr, he had been a Southington resident since 1938. Following his retirement from Tuttle and Bailey in New Britain in 1971 he worked for many years in his family's business, Evergreen Nursery. He was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church for many years, where he was a member of the choir and the Mens' Club as well as Sunday School teacher and director. He was also the President of the Concordia Singing Society in Waterbury, a member of the German American Society in Bristol and a member of the Southington Festival Chorale.
In addition to his wife, Johanna, Ernst is survived by two sons and their wives, Frederick E. and Elke Kuhr and Walter J. and Roberta Kuhr, all of Southington; two daughters and a son-in-law, Loretta D. Miron and Heidi K. and Michael A. Bittner of Southington; one brother, Frank Kuhr of Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Francis W. "Shy" Miron.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Southington. Calling hours are Sunday, Feb. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Margaret A. Riccio
MERIDEN -- Margaret A. Carbone Riccio, 94, formerly of Spring St., Meriden, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 in the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center of Meriden. She was the wife of the late Anthony F. Riccio.
Born in Southington, July 25, 2003, a daughter of the late Giovanni and Antonina Aldaria Carbone, she had been a Meriden resident for many years. Mrs. Riccio had been employed by the New Departure Co., formerly in Meriden, for many years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Mrs. Riccio is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Gerald Chase of Middletown and Beverly and Joseph Miazga of Meriden; her three grandchildren, Sherry Miazga and Jill Chase of Meriden and Jeff Chase of Middletown; her two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Marl Chase and Ashley Marie Chase, both of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four sisters; and two brothers.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from The Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave. Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center, 65 Westfield Road, Meriden, CT. 06450 for the Benefit of Wing 400.
Edward P. Cattey
WALLINGFORD -- Edward P. Cattey, 74, of Pequot Rd., died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, in the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Davenport Cattey.
Mr. Cattey was born in Torrington, May 25, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Catherine Myers Cattey, and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Occupational Forces in Japan. A tool and die maker, he had been the proprietor of the Eli Tool and Die Company of West Haven for many years. A graduate of Central Connecticut State College, class of 1982, he had been an Industrial Arts Teacher for the Wallingford Public School system at the former Robert Earley Middle School. He also taught woodworking classes for the Wallingford Park and Recreation Dept. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville and was a member of the Connecticut Woodcarvers Association where he had served as a Past President, the Mystic Carvers Club, the Tennessee Carvers Guild, the Cheshire Art League, Studio 53 of Meriden, the Ward Foundation of Maryland, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stanley Budleski Post #9965. Long active in Boy Scouts of America Activities, he held most of the volunteer positions available in scouting on a local level. A past scoutmaster and a woodbadge trained scouter, he was an Eagle Scout, a Silver Beaver Awardee, and a recipient of the District Award of Merit.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, William D. Cattey of Watertown, Mass.; his sister, Joan C. Turek of New Britain; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jean (Mrs. Donald) Flis of Middletown.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 10 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. Louise T. Ferrari
WALLINGFORD -- Louise T. Corso Ferrari, 77, formerly of North Airline Rd., Wallingford, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, in the Regency House of Wallingford. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony T. "Tippy" Ferrari, Jr.
Born I West Haven, March 9, 1925, a daughter of the late Frank and Eva Corso, she was a Wallingford resident for many years. She was a graduate of the Hospital of St. Raphael School of Nursing in New Haven. Mrs. Ferrari had worked as a Registered Nurse in the World War II Veterans Memorial Hospital in Meriden for over 40 years, from the time the hospital first opened until the time of the merger with the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital when she retired. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.
Mrs. Ferrari is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony L. Ferrari, Sr. and Darlene Ferrari of Wallingford, and Frank A. Ferrari and Darlene Ferrari of the Yalesville section of Wallingford; her four grandchildren, Anthony L. Ferrari, Jr., Karl T. Ferrari, Katherine L. Ferrari and Jennifer L. Ferrari; two sisters; and a brother. She was predeceased by her infant son, Anthony T. Ferrari, III.
Funeral services and burial in St. John Cemetery
will be private. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford.
Beryl L Johnson
GLASTONBURY -- Beryl L. Johnson, 96, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at the Glastonbury Health Care.
Born Sept. 25, 1906 in South Meriden, daughter of the late William B. and Agnes (MacDonald) Johnson, she was raised in Meriden and had lived in Glastonbury for the past seven years.
Beryl is survived by a sister, Eunice Meshrow of Glastonbury; three nephews, George Davidson of Cheshire, Wayne Davidson of Illinois, and Douglas Johnson of South Meriden.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 4 p.m. in the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. There are no calling hours.
Henry O. Lamothe
MERIDEN -- Henry Ovela Lamothe, 84, of 80 Hanover St., husband of Alma Viarengo Lamothe, died Saturday morning, Feb. 8, 2003 at Meriden Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Meriden on Dec. 15, 1917, the son of the late Ovela and Margaret Reynolds Lamothe, he had been a lifelong resident of this city. Mr. Lamothe attended St. Laurent School and was employed by International Silver Company, retiring in 1980. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines, and was a Bronze Star recipient. Mr. Lamothe was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, and a member of the Meriden Antique Veterans and the Meriden Senior Citizens.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a very devoted cousin, Dorothy Ritchie of Meriden; five sisters-in-law, Rose DeNigris and Ann Viarengo, both of Wallingford; Laura Lamothe, Eleanor Lamothe and Lena Viarengo, all of Meriden; many nieces and nephews, including John and Joyce DeNigris of Alabama, George DeNigris of Wallingford, James and Patricia Viarengo of Wallingford, Vic and Ann Viarengo of Arizona, Frank and Cheri Viarengo of Wallingford, Gary and Denise Yale of Meriden, Karen Viarengo of Middletown, Tony and Marianne Pallato of California, Joe Carroll of Wallingford, Robert Lamothe of Meriden, and Joseph Lamothe of Massachusetts.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Meriden Center, 845 Paddock Ave., Meriden, CT 06450, or to MidState VNA and Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450. Elizabeth M. Manning
WALLINGFORD -- Elizabeth M. O'Keefe Manning, 86, of Mohawk Drive, beloved wife of the late Thomas M. "DOC" Manning, Sr., died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at her residence.
Born in New Haven, June 4, 1916, a daughter of the late Thomas and Bridgette Murphy O'Keefe, she had been a Wallingford resident for 37 years. She had been employed at the former Winchester Repeating Arms Company in New Haven in the Accounts Payable Department for many years until her retirement and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret LeGates of Wallingford; her three sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas M. Manning, Jr. and Michael J. Manning, both of Wallingford and John M. and Jacqueline Manning of South Meriden; her four grandsons, William Dowd, David Dowd, Michael Dowd and John M. Manning, Jr.; her five great-grandchildren, David Dowd, Ryan Dowd, Sarah Dowd, Courtney Dowd and Jessica Dowd; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Megan Dowd; two sisters, Katherine Festa and Mary Noonan; and six brothers, Thomas, John, Joseph, William, James, and Lawrence O'Keefe.
