Stella Pareti

Stella Sieron Pareti, 91, of Wallingford, died Saturday, March 14, 2003.

Born in Ludlow, Mass., June 19, 1912, a daughter of the late Joseph and Justyna Wytrwal Sieron, she had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church.

She is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph L. Pareti of Wallingford, and Richard and Judith Pareti of Meriden; her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda A. and Thomas J. Farone of Wallingford; her sister Stephanie Stopkoski of Hamden; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers Edward and Walter Sieron.

Funeral services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford.

Joseph J. Pedone

WATERBURY -- Joseph J. Pedone, 29, of 975 Meriden Wallingford Road, died Friday evening, March 15, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Kristin L. (Smith) Pedone.

Mr. Pedone was born in Queens, N.Y., on March 13, 1974, a son of Leonard and Grace (Sturniolo) Pedone and came to Cheshire in 1978. He had also lived in New Britain for a time until moving to Waterbury following his marriage to Kristin on Nov. 16, 2002. He was a 1992 graduate of Cheshire High School and was a business analyst for Community Health Center in Meriden. Mr. Pedone was a peacetime veteran having served in the U.S. Marines. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Pedone enjoyed mountain biking and golf. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast.

Besides his wife of Waterbury and his parents of New Britain, he leaves a sister, Nicole Pedone of New Britain; his maternal grandmother, Kaye Sturniolo of Alexandria, Va.; his mother and father-in-law, Donald and Karen Smith of Cheshire; sister-in-law, Heather Smith of Manchester; brother-in-law, Donald Smith, III of Bristol; and many beloved friends.

The funeral will leave on Wednesday, March 19, at 9 a.m. from The Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main Street, Cheshire, CT and proceed to St. Bridget's Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Cheshire. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450.

Leonard R. Pellicano

MERIDEN -- Leonard R. Pellicano, 81, of 5 Round Hill Rd., husband of the late Christine Labbadia Pellicano, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at the MidState Medical Center.

Born in Meriden, Feb. 16, 1922, he was the son of the late James and Angela Canestra Pellicano. Mr. Pellicano resided in Meriden for most of his life and attended Meriden and Middletown schools. He was employed by New Departure in Meriden, retiring in 1973. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the European theatre. Mr. Pellicano was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church. He was an avid hunter, accordion player and gourmet cook.

Mr. Pellicano is survived by his loving companion, Bea Savoie; three sisters, Helen Prigitano of Bradenton, Fla., Mary Presti of Bristol and Assunta Macaluso of Boca Raton, Fla. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Pellicano; three sisters, Catherine Russo, Carmel Luca and Gloria Veneziano; and two brothers, Salvatore and Frank Pellicano.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March, 19, at 9:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10:30 at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MidState Medical Center, 435 Lewis Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

Stella M. Vumback

MERIDEN -- Stella M. Vumback, 78, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at the Meriden Center after a lengthy illness.

Born in Rosemont, W.V., March 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Dubinsky Vereshko. Mrs. Vumback had resided in Meriden since 1939 and owned and operated the Vumback Poultry Farm on Swain Ave. for many years. She was the last employed by the World War II Veterans Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Vumback was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

She was the loving mother to two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and John Bozzuto of Berlin, Lisa and David Victor of Wallingford; two sons and daughters-in-law, John J. and Jane Vumback of Wallingford and James and Rose Vumback of Clovis, Calif. Mrs. Vumback's nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride of her life. She is also survived by two sisters, Helen Waechter and Pauline Moyles, both of Largo, Fla.; a brother, William Vereshko of Maine; and also several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 19 at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Meriden Care Center (200 Wing), 845 Paddock Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

Annette Barron

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Annette LaCouriere Barron, 102, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2003 in Ocala, Fla. She was the wife of the late Professor Donald H. Barron.

She was born in Meriden, Annette was a homemaker, a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and a Gainesville resident since 1969.

She is survived by a daughter, Annette McCarthy, Pacific Palisades, Calif.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pasquale F. Benedetto Jr.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Pasquale F. Benedetto Jr., died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 in Fort Pierce, Fla. He was the husband of the late Betty Cook of North Haven.

He was born in Meriden, and was a resident of Fort Pierce, Fla., since 1978. Before moving to Ft. Pierce, he had operated the Log Cabin Annex in Meriden and the "Bucket" at Lake Beseck. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a founding member of the AMVETS Post 15, a member of the American Legion Post 40, VFW and Elks Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Gail Gunther of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; a son, Patrick Benedetto of Meriden; stepsons, Frank Nenninger of Meriden, John Cook of New Haven and Robert Cook of Michigan; sisters, Isabelle Wren of Killingworth and Sylvia Falcigno of Wallingford; a brother, Angelo Benedetto of Clinton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother, Jimmy Benedetto.

Burial will be private.

Eileen B. Cotrona

WESTBROOK -- Eileen B. Cotrona, 70, of Linden Ave., North, Westbrook, wife of Joseph Cotrona, passed away peaceful after a long illness on Sunday, March 16, 2003 at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown.

Born in Birmingham, England on June 18, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Bridget (McComvery) Burgess. Eileen came to the United States in 1967, where she lived in the Meriden area for many years before moving to Westbrook six years ago. She worked in retail until 1981 and then became a surgical sterilizer at the World War II Veterans' Memorial Hospital on Meriden. Most recently she was employed at the Saybrook Convalescent Hospital in Old Saybrook as a cook. She was a former member of the AOH in Meriden and an avid painter and seamstress.

Besides her husband of 34 years, she is survived by a son, Martin Reeve and his wife, Norma of Bloomington, Ind.; a daughter, Gillian Hodgetts and her partner, Antonio Setaro of Lincolnshire, England; a sister, Christine Bunt and her husband, Peter of Cornwall, England; four grandchildren, Christopher and Brianna Reeve and Andrew and Lisa Hodgetts; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Walsh.

The family would like to invite you to a gathering in Eileen's honor from 2 to 8 p.m. (come and go at your convenience) on Friday, March 21, at the Grove Beach Clubhouse, corner of Broadway North and Boston Post Road, Westbrook. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, 06450-1004. Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton has been entrusted with arrangements.

Dorothy Krooner

WALLINGFORD -- Dorothy Krooner, 91, passed away in Skyview Center, Wallingford, Sunday, March 9, 2003. Mrs. Krooner was born in Greenfield, Mass., on Dec.1, 1911.

She was the wife of the late Ernest P. Krooner; mother of Richard Seaberg and his wife, Laura of Wallingford and Robert Krooner and his wife, Jane of Lewis Center, Ohio; also survived by three step-daughters; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Rosemary C. Rovella

WETHERSFIELD -- Rosemary C. (Hagan) Rovella, 76, of Wethersfield, beloved wife for 49 years of Santo C. Rovella, died peacefully after a lengthy illness Sunday, March 16, 2003 at her home. Her loving family by her side.

She was born Feb. 8, 1927 in Hartford, and was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Murray) Hagan. Rosemary was a graduate of Weaver High School, class of 1945. After high school she worked for many years at the former DeFronzo Accounting Firm. She more recently worked in the finance department at Close, Jensen and Miller, PC, Wethersfield, retiring in 1995. Rosemary was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church and an active member of the Corpus Christi Church Women's Club. She was a member of the Wethersfield Seniors and was an avid reader.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her three children and their spouses, Rosellyn Giampietro and her husband, Charles of Meriden, James Rovella and his wife, Sandra and Mary Duffy and her husband, Sean, all of Wethersfield; sister-in-law, Marie Pricone of Wethersfield; 10 grandchildren, Francis, Matthew, Dominic, Genevieve and Chiara Giampietro, Daniel and Marc Rovella and Megan, Kelsey Rose and Sean Bailey Duffy; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Hagan Quinn.

Funeral service will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway,. Wethersfield. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care, 267 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451-2715.
