Martin W. Jurek

MERIDEN -- Martin W. Jurek, 52, of Sunbright Drive South, died unexpectedly Monday, June 9, 2003, at the MidState Medical Center.

Born July 25, 1950, in Meriden, the son of Dorothy Boziuk Jurek and the late Walter Jurek. Mr. Jurek was educated in the Meriden schools and was a 1969 graduate of Wilcox Technical School. Martin served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 through 1975. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Martin was employed by Northeast Graphics of North Haven. A personable gentleman, Mr. Jurek could often be seen engaging family and friends in deep conversation.

A loving father, Martin leaves his two daughters, Jennifer M. Jurek of Vernon and Rebecca Jurek Beas and son-in-law, Herbert of East Hartford; his mother, Dorothy Jurek of Meriden; a brother, Timothy C. Jurek and his wife, Martha; a sister, Nancy Kiel and her husband, John of Yalesville; a nephew, David Jurek; and two nieces, Adriene and Meredith Kiel. Martin was predeceased by his son, Ricky Jurek.

His military funeral will be held Thursday, June 12, at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, Meriden. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours at the Stempien Funeral Home, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Mary K. Solek

MERIDEN -- Mary K. Solek, 87, of 19 Bee St., wife of the late John J. Solek, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Scranton, Pa., on July 1, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Anna Zuraw. She had resided in Meriden most of her life and had attended Meriden schools. Mrs. Solek was employed by Napier Company and more recently by New Departure-Hyatt Bearing Division of General Motors, before retiring after 26 years of service. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Edward DeRosa of Meriden; one son, John Jay Solek of Meriden; three grandchildren, Susan and Jeff Cossette of Wallingford, Sharon and Ron D'Aquila of Meriden and Edward G. Jr. and Sue DeRosa of Meriden; 10 great-grandchildren, Evan, Julie, Natalie, Austin, Mario, Nicholas, D.J., Sissy, Jessica and Katy; two great-great-grandchildren, Michael and Zariah; one sister, Trudy Roman O'Donnell of Meriden; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 12, at 11 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 11:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday prior to the service, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Gladys Augustyn

MERIDEN -- Gladys Augustyn, 91, of Meriden, formally of Derby, wife of the late John Augustyn, died May 29, 2003, at her residence.

She was born June 26, 1911, in Derby, a daughter to the late George and Sophie (Konefal) Skowronski.

She is survived by a daughter, Marie Desmon of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Roudy Skowronski of Derby; a special granddaughter, Mareen Curtiss of Windchester, N.H.

There will be NO CALLING HOURS. A graveside service will take place Monday at 1 p.m. in St. Michael's Cemetery in Derby, CT. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home Has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Arline D. Engfer

MERIDEN -- Arline Doris (Charest) Engfer, 81, formerly of 130 Robin Hill Road, died at the St. Elizabeth Center, Curtis Home on Thursday, June 5, 2003.

She was born April 11, 1922 in Meriden, the daughter of Phillip and Mary (LaRose) Charest. She attended local schools, graduated from Meriden High School, and attended Laurel Business School. She lived in Meriden all of her life and was a communicant at St. Laurent Church.

She is survived by her husband, Gordon D. Engfer; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and James McMahon of Hudson, Ohio; two grandchildren, Maureen and Shana McMahon; two nieces, Susan Lloy Charest of Florida and JoAnne Picard of Marlborough; and one nephew, William P. Borriello of Meriden; she is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Joseph F. Borriello of Meriden.

During her school years, she was an accomplished trumpet player. She was a member of the Washington Park Drum Corp and for a time was a leader of all all-girl dance band. Her former husband, William Kapitzke, a bomber pilot, was killed during World War II.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Monday, June 9, at 10 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meriden Humane Society, 540 Oregon Road, Meriden, CT 06451.

Jeanette Hough

MADISON -- Jeanette Hubbard Hough of Miller Memorial Community, Meriden, formerly of Madison passed away in MidState Medical Center Tuesday, June 3, 2003. She was the wife of Donald R. Hough.

Born Dec. 23, 1925, daughter of the late Walter and Lillian Stevens Hubbard; mother and mother-in-law of Fran and Rich Rogers of Wallingford, Dona Wooding of Richmond, Va., and Rev. Patricia Hough of Fitchburg, Mass.; also survived by five grandchildren, Chris Rogers, Helen, Emily and Robert Wooding and Amelia Hough-Ross.

Memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 10, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, Madison. Burial will be private. Contributions in Mrs. Hough's memory may be made to American Heart Assoc., 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492. Arrangements in care of the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.

Michael J. Ingraham

WALLINGFORD -- Michael J. Ingraham, 36, of Sylvan Ave., Wallingford, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at his residence. He was the beloved son of Norton H. Ingraham Sr. of Wallingford and the late Colleen Corcoran Ingraham.

Born in Meriden, Aug. 15, 1966, he was a lifelong Wallingford resident. He had been employed by the Ulbrich Stainless Steel and Special Metals Inc., in Wallingford for seven years. An avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for motorcycles, quads, snowmobiles and hunting.

Besides his father, Norton, he is survived by his daughter, Karissa Ingraham, his fiancee, Theresa Mancini, his sister and brother-in-law, Kelly A. and Todd A. Ferrauolo and his brother, Norton H. Ingraham Jr. all of Wallingford; a niece; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to the Karissa Ingraham Trust Fund, c/o Edward Jones Investments, 550 No. Main St., Southington, CT 06489.

Sara C. Lane

WALLINGFORD -- Sara C. Lane, 62, of 27A Carr St., died Friday, June 6, 2003 at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1940 in Wallingford, a daughter of the late William P. and Margaret Edell Carr Sr. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wallingford.

She is survived by her son, John M. Lane and his wife, Jennifer of Wallingford; brothers and sister, William P. Carr Jr. and his wife, Ellen of Germany, Robert Carr and his wife, Barbara of Wallingford, Eleanor Corazzini and her husband, Raymond of Wallingford, Ernest R. Carr and his wife, Madeline of Meriden, John T. Carr and his wife, Gail of Wallingford and Richard S. Carr and his wife, Rosemary of Wallingford; two aunts, Dorothy Edell of Wallingford and Emily Edell of California.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 No. Main St., Wallingford. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford on Monday, June 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. If friends so desire gifts in her memory may be sent to the Scleroderma Clinic, c/o UConn Health Center, 263 Farmington Ave., Farmington, CT 06032.

John A. Linkletter

SOUTHINGTON -- John A. Linkletter, of Marion Ave., Plantsville section, the beloved husband of Ilse (Zorn) Linkletter entered into eternal rest peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in New London on Sept. 16, 1926, he was the son of the late Otis and Sarah (Coulson) Linkletter. Prior to John's retirement, he was employed for 20 years as a math teacher at Wilcox Technical School in Meriden. He had also owned Jack Linkletter & Associates Insurance Co. in Cheshire and worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance. Mr. Linkletter was a member of the Plantsville Congregational Church and served on the board of trustees. He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Cheshire Cats. John's passion was the game of golf.

Besides his wife of 24 years, he leaves two sons, Jonathan Linkletter and Sigmund Wight and his wife, Clare, all of Bristol; three daughters, Karen Frazier and her husband, Ron of Fairfax, Va., Jill Thayer of Bristol and Susan Piatek and her husband, Michael of Plantsville; along with 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Jaczinski and her husband, John of New London.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at the Plantsville Congregational Church, 109 Church St., Plantsville. There are no calling hours. Memorial Donations may be made in John's memory to the Plantsville Congregational Church or the Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1261 So. Main St., Plantsville, CT. 06479.

Edward Noss

WALLINGFORD -- Edward Noss, died on Sunday, June 1, 2003 at the age of 75, at the New Boston Nursing Home in Sandisfield, Mass., after a long illness.

He was born on May 12, 1928, in Cheshire, a son of the late Karl and Agnes Krauss Noss, he spent his childhood in Yalesville in the home of Foster Parents Quintin and Bertha Dunn. He graduated from Lyman Hall High School and served with the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. As a result of the war, he spent most of his life in Veterans Hospitals and nursing homes.

He is survived by a brother, Carl a Noss of Goleta, Calif.; two sisters, Lillian Romano of Waterbury and Emma E. Wall of Lyndonville, Vt.; a foster sister, Florence Glimpse of Spring Hill, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a private graveside service for the family in the In Memoriam Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford.

Charles H. Young

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. -- Charles Henry Young, 86, of 705 Neighbor Road, Randolph Center, Vt., and formerly of Wallingford died at the Darmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H., on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003.

A celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the Randolph Seventh Day Adventist Church on Route 12A, Braintree, Vt., with Pastor Al Cyr officiating. Pearsons Funeral Service, 70 Church St., Lyndonville, Vt., is in charge of arrangements.
