WALLINGFORD - Donald G. Martha, 86, of 18 Laurel Dr., died Monday, June 6, 2005 at the MidState Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Frances Broe Martha.
He was born in Bridgeport, May 3, 1919, a son of the late Oscar and Grace McClellan Martha.
He was a veteran of World War ll serving in the U.S. Army. Until his retirement he was employed in quality control at the Wallingford Steel Company. He was a communicant of the Most Holy Trinity Church.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William M. and Denise Martha of New Hartford, a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and James Winner of Hampton, NH, a brother, Kurt Martha of Andover, MA, 4 grandchildren, Brian and his wife Olga Winner, Stephen Winner, Patrick Martha and Jessica Martha and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Paul Martha.
Friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Road, Wallingford. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery. There are no calling hours. If friends so desire, gifts in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Doris Taylor Piper

MERIDEN - Doris Taylor Piper passed from this earth on Friday, June 10, 2005.
She was born in Yalesville, July 25, 1909 to the late Clarence and Viola Bennett Taylor.
She attended local schools and graduated from the Connecticut College for Women. Doris had a lifelong passion for local history and kept an extensive scrapbook of events. She walked her beloved boxers in Wallingford and Yalesville neighborhoods and was well-known to residents there. She was a great cook, and although her onions au gratin are still talked about at family gatherings, they are never quite replicated.
Doris is survived by her son, Dale and his wife Mary, grandchildren, Michael and Lisa Piper, Catherine Tracy, Anthony and Carrie Pompano and Stephen and Jennifer Rochette, five great-grandchildren, Dean Phillips, Shane Phillips, Elizabeth Piper, Catherine Piper and Jacob Tracy. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph and infant son, Wayne.
A private funeral service will be held at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours. The B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St is in charge of arrangements.

Agatha (Betty) Uhle

WALLINGFORD – Agatha (Betty) Uhle, 86, of 6 Kovacs Place, died Monday, July 4, 2005 at her home. She was the wife of the late Walter H. Uhle.
She was born in Wallingford, April 3, 1919, a daughter of the late Rosario and Rosina Alagna DiCarlo.
Mrs. Uhle was a graduate of Pratt Institute and in addition to her practice of fine arts, she worked at times as an art director for both Golden Books and the International Arts and Sciences Press. She was a member of the Art Students League, the New Haven Paint and Clay Club, and as an artist, she exhibited her works at John Slade Ely, Creative Arts Workshop, SUNY Purchase, New York and many other arts centers. Mrs. Uhle was a communicant of the Most Holy Trinity Church. She lived in New York City and Irvington, NY until retiring back to Wallingford.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Diane Uhle of Garrison, NY, a daughter, Claire Uhle of New York, NY. She was predeceased by a brother Xavier DiCarlo and a sister, Rosemary Dewey.
The funeral will leave the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. for a mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Road, Wallingford. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Wilfred Costa
Born in Dartmouth, MA on Jul. 31, 1919

WALLINGFORD – Wilfred Costa, 85, of 418 Church Street in the Yalesville section of Wallingford died July 14, 2005 at his home. He was the husband of June (Schwab) Costa.
Mr. Costa was born in Dartmouth, NH on July 31, 1919, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Arragon) Costa. He had been a member of the Compass Lodge #9 AF & AM in Wallingford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was awarded the Silver Star for his service in World War II. Before his retirement, he had worked as a machinist for C-V Instruments.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Fred Costa and his wife Cindy of Summerfield, FL; a brother, Gilbert Costa of New Bedford, MA; his grandchildren Kim, Michelle, Azia, Kris, and Jantzen; and two great granddaughters, Krystan and Torrie.
A Masonic Service will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2005 at the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford at 7:00 pm. Burial be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Calling hours are private.

WALLINGFORD - Joyce L. Smith, 57, of 27 Kingsland Ave. died Wednesday evening, June 25, 2003 at the MidState Medical Center. She was the wife of Warren D. Smith Sr.
She was born in Hartford, June 11, 1946 a daughter of the late Joseph and Muriel Flynt Pence.
Mrs. Smith was a communicant of the Most Holy Trinity Church, Wallingford.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Warren D. Smith Jr. and his wife Pamela of Wallingford, a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Neil Connolly of Wallingford, a brother, Randall Pence and two sisters, Nancy-Jean Shookies and Shirley Wieliesz all of Wallingford and 4 grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Matthew Smith, Brianna Connolly and Allison Connolly.
The funeral will leave the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St. on Monday at 9:45 a.m. for a mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Rd. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Gordon J. Tassmer

WALLINGFORD - Gordon J. Tassmer, 74, of the 656 East Center St. died peacefully Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the Masonic Healthcare Center after a couragous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Lorraine Borghi Tassmer.
He was born in Wallingford, March 21, 1929 a son of the late Arthur Andrew and Jane Gadd Tassmer.
Until his retirement, he was a master silversmith at the Yalesville Silver Company. Mr. Tassmer was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by a three sons, Gordon A. Tassmer of Meriden, Paul E. Tassmer of Rocky Hill and Robert J. Tassmer and his wife, Christine of Wallingford, a daughter, Kathryn Perrin and her husband Charles of Spotsylvania, Virginia, a sister, Evelyn Nitz of Wallingford, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
Friends and relatives are invited to Lorraine's home at 656 East Center St., Apt. E311, Wallingford on Friday at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate his life. Burial will be private. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street. is in charge of arrangements.

HAMDEN - Anna M. Zebrowski, 91, formerly of Tremont Street, Ansonia died Sunday, May 4, 2003 at the Skyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Chester Zebrowski.
She was born in Derby, March 25, 1912 a daughter of the late Ludwig and Mary Matejek Ozimek.
She worked at the former Sponge Rubber Company in Shelton and later at the National Studio of Photography. She was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Ansonia.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Marcia and Douglas Herman of Hamden. She was recently predeceased by her sister, Sophie J. Ozimek.
Friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 32 Jewett St., Ansonia. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery, Silver Hill Road, Derby. There are no calling hours. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford is in charge of arrangements.

MERIDEN - Edith H. Blakey, 90, of 33 Cone Ave., formerly of Wallingford died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at Coccomo Memorial Healthcare Center. She was the wife of the late William Blakey.
She was born in Framingham, MA, June 19, 1912 a daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Henderson.
She was raised in Concord, NH and resided in NH until 1953, when she and her family moved to CT.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Donna Blakey of Wallingford, Alec and Roberta Blakey of Middletown and Thomas and April Blakey of Severn, MD, 5 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the CT Childrens Medical Center Foundation, 12 Charter Oak Place, Hartford, CT 06106.

BRISTOL - Donna Faulkner Grass, 51, of 40 Matthews Street died Monday, April 28, 2003 at her residence. She was the former wife of Harry Faulkner of East Haven and the dear companion of Sonny Tompkins, with whom she resided.
She was born in New Haven, May 7, 1951 a daughter of Raymond Grass Sr. of Wallingford and the late Barbara Stevens Jesse.
She was a past president of the Wallingford Single Parents Association and was a former member of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford.
She is survived by a son Brian Faulkner, Sr. and his wife Patricia of Naugatuck, a daughter Tricia Faulkner of Wallingford, a brother Raymond Grass, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Durham, a sister Allison Romano of Meriden and 5 grandchildren, Brittany Williams, Kenneth Williams, Jr., Brian Faulkner, Jr., Brianna Faulkner and Ashley Groves. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Joseph A. Jesse.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford. Burial will be at the Centerville Cemetery, Washington St., Hamden. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the Asthma-American Lung Association of CT, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108-3272.
