Harold Gottesman
Old Lyme — Harold Aaron Gottesman, 75, of Old Lyme, died Wednesday at home.
He was born on Sept. 7. 1926, in Newark, N.J., the son of the late Joseph and Sadie Hershkowitz Gottesman.
He received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1946.
Mr. Gottesman graduated from West Point in 1950, and became a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps, serving during the Korean War.
He was the co-founder of Edison Parking Corp., which is the parent company of Park East garages and lots in New York City, Manhattan Mini Storage and the Hippodrome office building in New York. After serving more than four decades as president of the company, he retired in 1998 to establish Edison Investment Advisors, a family-owned fund.
Mr. Gottesman was a board member of the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, and the Avenue of the Americas Association in New York City. He was also a member of the group that founded the West Point Jewish Chapel and a participant on the Board of Overseers.
He is survived by his companion, Madelaine Goldish of Old Lyme; two daughters, Ellen Garber of Short Hills, N.J., and Robin Gottesman Levine of Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.; a son, Andrew Gottesman of New York City; two brothers, Jerome Gottesman of Morristown, N.J., and A. Edward Gottesman of New York City and London; and six grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Reff.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at West Point Jewish Chapel. Guests must arrive at 9:15 a.m. for security precautions.
Shiva will be observed at his residence in Chelsea, New York City, on Saturday evening, and at his daughter Ellen's home on Sunday and Monday evenings.

Elisabeth Prentice
Mystic — Elisabeth Belle Prentice, 88, of 52 Stanton Lane, died Friday at home after a brief illness.
She was born on July 1, 1913, in Holyoke, Mass., the daughter of the late Richard and Selma Leidholt Kuehdorf.
She married Norris Fremont Prentice in 1953. He died on Feb. 23., 1992.
Mrs. Prentice was a graduate of Holyoke High School. She received a fine arts degree from the Massachusetts School of Art in Boston, and also studied at the Boston Museum School of Art and Mt. Holyoke College for her master's degree in education.
She served with the American Red Cross Hospital Units during World War II, working with patients in rehabilitation.
After the war, Mrs. Prentice worked designing Christmas Cards. Then, for a number of years, she was the head bridal consultant at G. Fox Co. in Hartford. She later worked as an interior decorator with Capitol City Lumber in Hartford.
After her marriage, Mrs. Prentice lived in Glastonbury until her retirement to Mystic in 1975.
While living in Mystic, she was active with the Mystic Art Association, the Mystic-Noank Library and First Church of Christ Scientist.
She is survived by a niece, Lois Eaton of Harwichport, Mass.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Dora Eaton, Margaret Johnston and Hildegarde Angus.
Friends will gather in her memory at a later date.

Shirley Babcock
Montville — Shirley Matweeff Babcock, 63, of Timber Trail, Frisco, N.C., a native of Uncasville, died Wednesday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Va.
She was the daughter of Paul and Mary Matweeff. She was the wife of George H. Babcock. Mrs. Babcock was a registered nurse.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, George H. Babcock Jr. of Boston, F. Kevin Babcock and Christopher Babcock, both of Macon, Ga., and Andrew Shepard Babcock of Marietta, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
A private funeral service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Ryan Austin
New London — Ryan Kenneth Austin, 11, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of New London, died Wednesday at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1990, in Norwich, the son of Shawn Kenneth and Sandy Carol Austin of Port Charlotte.
Ryan moved to Port Charlotte from New London four years ago, and was a sixth grade student at Murdock Middle School in Port Charlotte.
He enjoyed animals and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Megan Austin of Port Charlotte; maternal grandparents, Howard and Linda Kissel of Montville; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Linda Austin of North Port, Fla.; maternal great-grandmother Shirley Place of Lake Worth, Fla.; and paternal great-grandparents Sally Austin of New London and Vernon and Nellie Vernott of Waterford.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Robertson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte, Fla. There will be a calling hour at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funer al home, prior to the service.

Ronald Lynch Sr.
Ronald Lynch Sr., 61, of Griswold, died unexpectedly Wednesday at home.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1940, in Queens, N.Y., the son of the late Augustine and Viola Nahr Lynch. He married Carol A. Sellick on May 18, 1963, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Lynch was a Navy veteran, serving from 1958 to 1963. He worked as a machinist at Electric Boat in Groton.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Jewett City.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Ronald Lynch Jr. of Griswold, Daniel Lynch of Lisbon and Michael Lynch, at home; a brother, Michael Lynch; a sister, Mary Anne La Chapelle; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will assemble at 8:15 a.m. Saturday at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Route 138, Jewett City, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Jewett City.
Calling hours are 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Isobel Gault
Groton — Isobel J. Gault, 83, of Neptune Drive, Mumford Cove, died Monday at Mariner Healthcare at Pendleton in Mystic.
Born on April 20, 1918, in Detroit, she was the daughter of David and Vera Furnish.
She married Harry D. Gault Jr. on Oct. 10, 1942, in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Mrs. Gault was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ferndale, Mich., and Albion College in Albion, Mich.
She and her husband settled in Groton at the end of World War II, having lived first in the Poquonnock Bridge area, then Long Hill Road, Tyler Avenue in the city and lastly Mumford Cove.
Mrs. Gault was a member of the United Methodist Church in Groton.
A skilled seamstress, she also enjoyed gardening and breeding long-hair Persian cats. She enjoyed traveling, and she and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States in their motor home.
Mrs. Gault was a 40-year survivor of breast cancer.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, David Gault of Hagatna, Guam; a daughter, Sanny Chacanaca of Groton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. Burial will be in Smith Lake Cemetery in Groton.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made to Breast Cancer Research, c/o American Cancer Society, 43 Bank St., New London CT 06320.

Ana Ortiz
New London — Ana E. Ortiz, 49, of 36 D Truman St., died Friday at her home.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1952, in New London, the daughter of Gregory and Olga Ortiz.
She is survived by a son, Jimmy L. Martinez of New London; a daughter, Alicia I. Guzman of New London; three brothers, Manuel Gonzalez of New London, and Jesus and Raymond Ortiz, both of Puerto Rico; two sisters, Myrna Gonzalez of New London, and Migdalia Ortiz of Puerto Rico; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Cemetery in New London.
Calling hours are 4-6 p.m. Monday, at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.
Memorial donations may be directed to Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut, P.O. Box 902, Uncasville CT 06382.

John O'Connell
Stonington — John J. “Jake” O'Connell, 72, of 5 Taugwonk Spur, died Friday.
He was born on Feb. 3, 1929, in New Haven, the son of Agnes Hines O'Connell of New Haven, and the late Jeremiah F. O'Connell.
He was the husband of Jean Beattie O'Connell.
Mr. O'Connell was a retired bail commissioner for the State of Connecticut.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Michael J. O'Connell of Zacaville, Calif.; four daughters, Kathleen O. Heisey of Alexandria, Va., Maureen O'Connell-Lucas of Falls Church, Va., Mary J. O'Connell of Clyde, N.C., and Leigh O. Montgomery of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Brother Kevin O'Connell, O.P. of Providence; four sisters, Mary O. Tierney and Karen O. McHugh, both of Guilford, Agnes O. Venice of Bayside, N.Y., and Eleanor O. Sullivan of Killingworth; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert T. O'Connell, and James K. O'Connell.
The funeral will begin at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, at the Monahan, Cox, Smith, & Crimmins Funeral Home, 11 Wooster Place, New Haven, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at The Church of St. Bernadette in East Haven. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to The Edmunite Center, Enders Island, Mystic CT 06355.

Deborah Anderson
Stonington — Funeral arrangements have been completed for Deborah Avery Anderson, 54, of North Water St., who died Dec. 7, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Mystic Congregational Church.
There are no calling hours.
The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic, is in charge of arrangements.
