Margaret Barrett
Margaret H. “Peggy” Barrett, 84, of Stonington, died Saturday 2 February 2002 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
Born on 24 February 1917, in Bedford Park NY, she was the daughter of John E. and Margaret T. Cahill Barrett. She lived in Boston and Cambridge MA before moving to Stonington to be with her niece, Susan Chamber.
Miss Barrett attended Westerly Adult Care Services, and the Calvary Church in Stonington.
In addition to her niece, she is survived by a brother, Joseph D Barrett; another niece, Sara C Cote of Boulder, Colo.; and a nephew, Dr Michael Conant of Berkeley, Calif.
She was predeceased by a brother, John Barrett; and a sister, Mary B Conant.
A memorial service was held on Friday 8 February 2002 at the Calvary Church in Stonington.

Elizabeth Morton
Elizabeth Nickerson Morton, 92, of Stonington, died Friday 1 February 2002 at The Westerly Hospital.
The daughter of John and Elizabeth Laird Smith Nickerson, she was born in St Louis MO. As a child, she moved to New York City, where she attended Spence and Brearley Schools before moving to Noroton, Connecticut. A 40-year resident of Stonington, Mrs Morton was a member of the Calvary Church in Stonington Borough and a former member of the Wadawanuck Club. In New York, she was a member of the Colony Club and was active in charities, including the Big Sisters and St. James Church. She enjoyed tennis, swimming and ballroom dancing.
She is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth W. Cutler of Mystic and Mary Preston Morton of Stonington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Denis Cronin
Denis G Cronin, 60, of Stonington, died on Friday 1 February 2002 at his home.
Born on 27 February 1941 in New London, he was the son of Daniel A and Grace Ennis Cronin. He was the companion of Susan Trehern. Mr Cronin owned and operated a farm.
He is survived by a son, John D Cronin of North Stonington; two daughters, Barbara Gileau of Voluntown CT and Tamara Trehern; four sisters, Kathleen C Jeffrey of Stonington; M Barbara Nord of Bakersfield CA; Joanna C Petrone of Stonington; Peggy C Verhasselt of North Stonington CT; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr Cronin was predeceased by a sister, Viola Cottrell.
Interment took place in St Michael's Cemetery, Pawcatuck.
Thomas Bradford
Thomas Andrews Bradford, 43, of Stonington, died Tuesday 29 January 2002 at home.
Born on 6 October 1958, in Munich, Germany, he was the son of Jacqueline A Bradford of Stonington, and the late Henry B Bradford, who were in the diplomatic service at the time. He attended Landon High School in Bethesda, Md., and graduated from Kent High School in Kent. He graduated from the University of Hartford.
Mr Bradford was self-employed as “Minutemen Renovations” for many years, until he needed a more regular schedule to care for his father. He went to work at Home Depot and had recently transferred to the Waterford store to be closer to his mother.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Wendy B Bradford of New Britain.
A memorial service was held on Sunday 3 February 2002 at the Calvary Church in Stonington. Burial took place in Stonington Cemetery.
Timothy Stillman
Timothy G Stillman, 79, of Ft Lauderdale and Stonington Borough, died on 24 January 2002 in Florida. Mr Stillman was raised in New York and Seal Harbor, Maine. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge MA and Columbia University in New York.
Mr Stillman served as fire marshal in Stonington and elsewhere and was the founder of Firehouse magazine, which he also wrote for.
Mr Stillman was married twice and had five children. He was also the founder of the Cannon Square Fire Department Museum, dedicated in 1982. He was one of the original sailors in the Wednesday Night Dinghy Races in Stonington Harbor, organized by the Stonington Small Boat Association.

Harold Robinson
Harold M Robinson, 86, of Stonington, died on Wednesday 23 January 2002 at The Westerly Hospital. The son of William and Julia McGowan Robinson, he was born in Stonington on 13 November 1915. On 5 July 1945 he married Edna Lewis in Stonington. She died in January 1995.
Mr Robinson attended Stonington High School, where he played football. He served in the US Army in World War II from 1942 to 1945 in the Philippines.
Mr Robinson worked as a machinist at the Atwood Machine Co and later went into maintenance, becoming a plumber, rigger and carpenter. Returning to Atwood after the war, he remained with the company as it changed first to Plax then to Monsanto, from which he retired in 1977. After his retirement he worked part-time at Skipper's Dock and the Harbor View Restaurants.
He was a communicant of St Mary Church, Stonington, and a lifetime member of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, the Hugo A Simonelli Post, VFW, in Mystic, the Harley P Chase American Legion Post in Stonington, and the Steamer Engine Company of The Stonington Borough Fire Department. He was a member for 30 years of the Westerly Lodge of Elks.
Mr Robinson is survived by a son, William, of Pawcatuck; a daughter, Susan Gaston, of Stonington; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Mary Church, Stonington Borough, on Saturday 26 January 2002.

George B "Jerry" Turner
George B "Jerry" Turner, 58, of Stonington, died from cancer.on Tuesday 22 January 2002 at Pendleton Health Care in Mystic. The son of Howard M and Helen (Bartholomew) Turner, he was born in New London on 8 January 1944.
Mr Turner attended Pine Point School in Stonington, Winchendon School in Winchendon NH and received his BA from Burdett College in Boston MA. He married Ainslie Anderson in Andover MA on 4 May 1968. The couple bought the former Harbor View Restaurant in Stonington that same year and it became one of the premier restaurants in New England. Skippers Dock restaurant was opened in 1984. The Turners sold the Harbor View in 1989 and, in 1997, they opened the Quiambaug House Restaurant. In 1999, the Turners returned to Stonington, where they reopened Skippers Dock Restaurant, which remains open.
Mr Turner was a member of the Ram Island Yacht Club, the Off Soundings Club and the Connecticut Restaurant Association. He also enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
In addition to his wife, Mr Turner is survived by a son, Alex, of Stonington; a daughter, Brie Tanner, of Longmont CO; a brother, Mark Turner, of Noank; and one sister, Sarah T Miniken, of Bethesda MD.

John E Dodson Jr
John Esser Dodson Jr, 66, of Brisbane, Australia, died on 19 November 2001. Born on 24 September 1935, he was the son of John and Evelyn Mott Dodson. He was a graduate of the Choate School and attended Lehigh University.
Mr Dodson served in the US Navy from 1956 to 1959.
Mr Dodson had been an engineer in Brisbane and was vice president of Dodson Boatyard in Stonington Borough from 1960 to 1964. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Dodson of Balmoral, New South Wales, Australia; a daughter, Aimee Dodson Curtis; and three sons, John, Peter, and Joshua, all of New South Wales, Australia.
Memorial services were held on 21 November 2001 in The Chapel, Hemmant Cemetery, New South Wales.
Paul Louis Moody
Paul Louis Moody, 81, of Stonington, died on Friday 18 January 2002 at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven CT. The son of Wilson Arnold and Audrey Bloom Moody, he was born on 13 July 1920 in Cleveland OH.
Mr Moody graduated from South High in Cleveland in 1938 and joined the US Navy on 16 September 1940. He served aboard the USS Nashville and the USS Tarazed before entering the Navy's Submarine School in Groton, where he graduated from in 1943. He served aboard the USS Whale during World War II. When the Whale was decommissioned, he served aboard the USS Haddock, the USS Toro and the USS Baya.
Mr Moody married Cannie Pettingille Collins on 25 January 1946 in Noank.
Mr Moody worked as an instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and later at the US Submarine Base in Groton CT. He retired into the Fleet Reserve in September 1960 with the rank of chief engineman. Following his naval service, he worked at Stonington Lumber Company until his retirement in 1982.
A member and trustee of the United Church of Stonington and a member of the Men's Club, Mr Moody was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the James W Harvey American Legion Post in Stonington.
In addition to his wife, Mr Moody is survived by a son, Gary, of Sedona AZ; two daughters, Nancy Hobart of Stonington and Joyce Moody of Famington NH; two grandchildren, Daniel Hobart of New York City and Susan Hobart of Tempe AZ; a brother, David Moody of Winston-Salem NC; and a sister, Alma Deluzin of Oakwood OH.
Funeral services were held on Monday 21 January 2002 at the United Church of Stonington at 11 am and burial took place in Stonington Cemetery.
