Joseph P. Geremia
NORTH HAVEN — Joseph P. Geremia, 83, of 43 Randall Drive, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at St. Raphael's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Margaret Rotondo Geremia. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
He was born in Wallingford, May 25, 1915, the son of the late Gustavo and Lucy Greico Geremia. A resident of North Haven for the past 32 years, he had retired as an industrial engineer for the Risdon Corporation of Thomaston.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Douglas J. Geremia and his wife Linda of Wallingford and William P Geremia of North Haven; two brothers, Louis Geremia of Middletown and Salvatore Geremia of Wallingford; four sisters, Pearl Geremia, Theresa Reig, Eleanor Massoni, all of Wallingford and Bernice D'Addio of North Haven; three grandchildren, Valerie M. Galluba, Joseph D. and David A. Geremia. He is also survived by his lifelong pal, Skippie, the dog. He was predeceased by three brothers, Julie, Flavo and Leo Geremia and one sister, Stella Denya.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Cabrini Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bert F. Kokoszka
MERIDEN -- Bert F. Kokoszka, 68, of 30 Hillside Ave., died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Haven. He was the husband of the late Shirley Lacombe Kokoszka.
He was born in Rockfall, Dec. 23, 1929, a son of the late John and Mary Ciesla Kokoszka. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked at Pratt & Whitney and later for Carpenters Union Local 210 until his retirement in 1993. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and was a member of the Kosciuszko Society in Rockfall. He was an avid bowler and was a member of many leagues. He was also a member of the Amateur Bowling Tour.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Adams of Meriden, Patricia Hodge of Meriden and Donna Hiraldo of Meriden; two sons, Michael Kokoszka of Florissant, Mo., and Stephen Kokoszka of Meriden; three brothers, Anthony Kokoszka of Middletown, Stanley Kokoszka of Middletown and Edward Kokoszka of Wolcott; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by three brothers, Walter Kokoszka, Frank Kokoszka and Chester Kokoszka and a sister, Stefanie Kruvka.
The funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at 9:15 a.m. from the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church with a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Helen M. McCarthy
MERIDEN – Helen M. McCarthy, 88, of Meriden, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at Meriden Center after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden on Dec. 28, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Mary (Collins) McCarthy. She had lived in Meriden her entire life and had attended local schools, and was a graduate of Laurel Business College. Miss McCarthy was employed by Travelers Insurance in Hartford, retiring after almost 50 years of service. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.
Miss McCarthy is survived by a brother, John McCarthy of Wallingford, and by three nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by two sisters, Grace McCarthy and Mary-Bess Wragg, and by one brother, Joseph McCarthy.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Matilda Pomian
MERIDEN -- Matilda Pomian, 83, of Meriden, wife of the late Joseph Pomian, died Sunday evening, Dec. 13, 1998, at the MidState Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 26, 1915, in Terryville, a daughter of the late Gustav and Bernice Smolinski. Mrs. Pomian was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.
She leaves four nephews, Robert Smolinski and Richard Otlowski, both of Meriden, Richard Smolinski of Columbia, and Allan Smolinski of Virginia; three nieces, Dolores Cherico of Middletown, Elaine Scruton of Southington and Josephine Otlowski of Meriden. She was predeceased by three brothers, Henry, Chester and Matthew Smolinski, and a sister, Henrietta Otlowski.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian burial. The committal will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Mary H. Rowe
MERIDIAN, Miss. -- Mary H. Rowe, 90, of 1109 38th Ave., Meridian, Miss., formerly of 23 Cass St., Meriden, wife of the late David A. Rowe, died on Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at Riley Memorial Hospital in Mississippi.
Born in Jan. 27, 1908, in Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Marhefka) Mlinarcik. Mrs. Rowe had lived in Meriden for many years before moving to Meridian nine years ago. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Ralph Walters of Meridian, Miss.; a son and daughter-in-law, David A. Rowe Sr., and Eva Rowe of Meriden; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rowe was predeceased by a daughter, Marilyn Rowe, and by a grandson, David A. Rowe Jr.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

John V. Carabetta
MERIDEN — John V. Carabetta, husband of the late Lena (Macri) Carabetta, died Sunday morning, Dec. 13, 1998, at the Meriden Nursing Center after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden, he was the son of the late Vincent and Teresa Carabetta and had resided in this city for his entire life. Mr. Carabetta attended local schools and owned and operated John's Shoe Repair on Center Street for more than 60 years, retiring three years ago. He was also employed by the Pratt & Whitney Co. in North Haven for more than 25 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Mr. Carabetta is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and Joseph Jones of Meriden; a son, John V. Carabetta Jr. of Green Bay, Wis.; three grandchildren, Joseph and Mary Jones and Kristy Carabetta; five great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Evelyn Carabetta of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Sal, Dominic, George and Cosmo; and one sister, Rose.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Edward J. Doyle Sr.
ENFIELD — Edward J. Doyle Sr., 62, died on Dec. 13, 1998, peacefully at home while surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Simone Doyle.
Born in Meriden on Dec. 8, 1936, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude Doyle and was a Meriden resident until moving to the Enfield area in 1981.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Gaffey of Meriden, Laurie and John Mattioli of Hamden, Janet and Michael McGuire of Savannah, Ga.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Edward and Margaret Doyle Jr. of Southington and John Doyle and his fiancee, Wendy Zocco of Rocky Hill; six grandchildren, Erin and Brian Gaffey, Sean and Nicole Doyle, Mark Rich and Michael McGuire Jr.; four brothers, James, Matthew, Harold and William Doyle; and one sister, Trudy Gdovin. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Rioux. He was a friend of Bill W.
Friends may call at the Leete-Stevens Funeral Home, 61 South Road, Enfield, Conn. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at Holy Family Church, Simon Road, Enfield, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Joseph P. Geremia
NORTH HAVEN — Joseph P. Geremia, 83, husband of Margaret (Rotondo) Geremia, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998 at the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven, after a brief illness.
He is survived by two sons, William P. Geremia of North Haven and Douglas and Linda Geremia of Wallingford.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced. The North Haven Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Joseph Parisi
WALLINGFORD — Joseph Parisi, 88, of Spring Street, beloved husband of the late Beatrice Biga Parisi, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at MidState Medical Center, after a brief illness, with his loving family at his side.
Mr. Parisi was born in North Haven, December 29, 1909, son of the late Louis and Marie Parisi, and had been a Wallingford resident for the past 60 years. He was a 50-year gold membership card holder for the Central Connecticut Carpenters-Millwrights and Pile Drivers, Local 24, of Yalesville. He worked on one of the first indoor Olympic-size swimming pools built in Connecticut, located in Wethersfield, and participated in the construction of Lyman Hall High School on Pond Hill Road. He retired 26 years ago as a project superintendent, completing his final project, the ramp garage on Suscany Street in downtown Hartford. During his retirement, he enjoyed fishing and shellfishing, and has a great passion for vegetable gardening. He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.
He is survived by his beloved family; his son and daughter-in-law, Louis J. and Mary Lou Stevens Parisi of Wallingford; his three daughters and three sons-in-law, Marie E. and Joseph Christoni Jr., Beatrice A. and John Gawlak Jr. and Josephine and Peter Acampora, all of Wallingford; his 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Mark J. Parisi, Christine and John Wojewodka, Wendy and Joe Doolan, Amy Parisi, Joseph Christoni III, Lori and Keith DeVit, John and Kristin Gawlak III, Lisa Gawlak and her fiance, Dick Deming, Sheri and Paul Ciardullo, and Jody and John Rowley; his nine great-grandchildren, Mark Parisi Jr. and Valerie Parisi, Keith DeVit, Kelly and Joseph Christoni IV, John "Jake" Gawlak IV, Paige-Johna Ciardullo, and Matthew and Spencer Rowley; and a sister, Blanche (Mrs. Thomas F.) Lockert of Wallingford. He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Parisi and Charles Parisi; and two grandchildren, Roland Christoni and Kelly A. Gawlak.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

Mildred Beck
WELLS, Maine — Mildred (King) Beck, 87, of 434 Quarry Rd., died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at York Hospital in York, Maine. She was the wife of the late Lester Beck.
Born June 27, 1911, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Marie (Rozeck) King. She was formerly of Plantsville and had lived in Maine for the past 18 years. She was a member of the Plantsville Baptist Church, the Southington Garden Club and the Southington Womens Club.
She is survived by a son, Albert Beck, and daughter-in-law, Linda of Bristol; a daughter, Shirley D'Angelo, and son-in-law, Dominic of Wells, Maine; two brothers, Frederick King of Wallingford and Albert King of Asheville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jeanne Tausendtfreundt.
The funeral was held in Maine. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington is in charge of local arrangements.

Victor V. D'Amato
NORTH HAVEN — Victor V. D'Amato, 70, of 58 Drazen Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden after a long illness. He was the husband of Julia Prete D'Amato.
Mr. D'Amato was born in New Haven on Aug. 8, 1928, and was the son of the late Antonio and Rose Belaeff D'Amato. A resident of North Haven since 1962, he had worked as a project manager for M.J. Daly Company of Waterbury for 22 years until his retirement. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion, Murray Reynolds Post #76 of North Haven. He was a member of the Pine Grove Men's Club Association and a former member of the New Haven Racoon Club. He was a parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini Church of North Haven.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Elaine R. Janssen of Wallingford; a son, Victor A. D'Amato of Cheshire; a brother, Anthony D'Amato of North Branford; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Salvatore and Michael D'Amato.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Cabrini Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. The visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450.
