Harold C. Gehrke Jr.
WALLINGFORD — Harold C. Gehrke Jr., 67, of 179 Grieb Road, died Saturday, Oct. 10, suddenly at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. He was the husband of Elinor Wright Gehrke.
He was born in Meriden, March 17, 1931, a son of the late Harold C. Gehrke Sr. and Edna Moronde Gehrke. He was a Wallingford resident since 1935 and graduated from Lyman Hall High School, class of 1949. He spent most of his working years as a steel salesman for several companies covering the Southern New England area. Since 1984, he had operated his own business called GUM Co., serving truck operators and businesses using chains and related items throughout Connecticut, western Massachusetts and eastern New York. Mr. Gehrke was president of the Wallingford Jaycees from 1959-1960, state director from 1960-1961 and state chairman of the 1962 Miss Connecticut Pageant, which was held at the Oakdale. He was honored by the Jaycees as a life member and was designated J.C.I. Senator No. 3525. He was active in Republican politics in Wallingford and was first elected a constable in 1960, a position he held for 32 years. He was a member of the Public Celebration Committee and was very active in the 1970 Tercentenary and the 1976 Bicentennial. He was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Meriden and served several terms on the church council, was an usher and was active visiting homebound members of the church. Mr. Gehrke was also a member of the North Farms Volunteer Fire Department from 1946 to 1958.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Laurie Gehrke of East Corinth, Maine; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and William Sharkey of Guilderland, N.Y.; a brother, Albert Gehrke of Ellisburg, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Ryan and Meg Sharkey of New York and Jen and James Gehrke and Cassie Betters of Maine.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. It is suggested that gifts in his memory be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5022, Wallingford 06492.

Alfonse S. Grabowski
MERIDEN — Alfonse S. Grabowski, 82, of 34 Prospect St., husband of the late Beatrice (Szymaszek) Grabowski, died on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at Milford Meadows in Milford, Mass., after a brief illness.
Born in New Britain on Jan. 17, 1916, son of the late John and Margaret Grabowski, he was a graduate of Meriden High School and lived in Meriden for most of his life. Mr. Grabowski was employed by Sears Roebuck in Middletown, retiring 17 years ago and was an avid golfer and a former member of the Silver City Golf Club.
Mr. Grabowski is survived by one son, Daniel Grabowski of Blackstone, Mass.; four grandchildren, Mark Grabowski, Daniel Grabowski Jr. and Colin and Ryan Grabowski; one great-grandson, Jack Grabowski; one brother, Val Grabowski of Portland; three nieces; and one nephew. He was predeceased by three sisters, Marion, Cecelia and Lucy, and by one brother, John.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Beatrice Foundation, P.O. Box 283, Blackstone, MA 01504 (to benefit the children of the Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club).

Melchior Levesque
SOUTHINGTON — Melchior "Mike" Levesque, 83, of Wonx Spring Road, Plantsville section of Southington, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, following a long illness. He was the husband of Anita Michaud Levesque.
Born Oct. 4, 1915, in Grand Isle, Maine, the son of the late Louis and Arthemise Lebel Levesque, he was a longtime Southington resident. He retired from Scovill Manufacturing in 1976 after 40 years of service. He was a devoted communicant of St. Aloysius Church for many years.
In addition to his wife, Anita, he is survived by his two sons, Richard and Michael Levesque, both of Southington; his two daughters, Diana Gordon of Waterbury and Gloria Haman of Plantsville; one sister, Ida Tranka of Manchester; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 9 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Lorraine V. Plante
SOUTHINGTON — Lorraine V. (McGraw) Plante, 71, of 27 Plum Orchard Road, died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998 at Mediplex of Connecticut. She was the beloved wife of Lucian M. Plante.
Born on Aug. 31, 1927, in Lewiston, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Violet (Roy) McGraw. Prior to her retirement, she owned and operated the Soft Touch Beauty Salon in Southington. She was a member of St. Thomas Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Edward N. Steward of Plantsville; a brother, Robert McGraw of Florida; a sister, Jaqueline Wilson of Milford; two grandsons, Chad E. Stewart and Brett E. Stewart; and a great-grandson, Ian E. Stewart.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Church on Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. There are no calling hours. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., has charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington, CT 06489.

Evelyn Gross
WALLINGFORD — Evelyn Gross, 96, of Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, formerly of Meriden and Fort Myers, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998. She was the wife of the late Henry Gross.
She was born in New Haven, April 24, 1902, a daughter of the late Wesley and Dora Bassett Johnson. Until her retirement, she was owner and operator of the former Lounsbury Company Store in Indian Neck, Branford. She was past matron of Meridian Chapter No. 8, Order of Eastern Star in Meriden and was a past grand matron of Connecticut Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by two nieces, Ruth Howe of Wallingford and Mary Hyland of Branford and Florida.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Center Cemetery, Branford. There are no calling hours. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford, is in charge of arrangements.

Alfred Kabisch
SOUTHINGTON — Alfred Kabisch, 93, of 252 Buckland St., Plantsville section, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Carmella (DeAngelo) Kabisch.
He was born Sept. 2, 1905, in New York City. He retired from Atwater Forge in 1962. He was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Nicholas Galiette of Plantsville; two grandchildren, Joanne Kelsey and her husband James and Nicholas Galiette Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Angela Keene and Jacqueline Kelsey; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters and four brothers.
The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Aloysius Church at 11:15 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marjorie Shaw
MERIDEN — Marjorie Learned Trevithick Shaw, 78, of 410 E. Main St., died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, in the Connecticut Baptist Home after a long illness. She was the wife of John D. Shaw.
She was born in Middletown, Oct. 7, 1920, a daughter of the late Frederick and Ethel Wanless Trevithick. She graduated from the Northfield Mount Herman School and Colby Junior College of New London, N.H. She was a member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, an active member of the Charity Club of Meriden, Shuttle Meadow Country Club, the New Britain Museum, Wadsworth Atheneum of Hartford, and the Metropolitan Museum. She was a volunteer with the Visiting Nurse Association "Well Babies Clinic" of Meriden for many years. Mrs. Shaw had lived in Kensington for many years before moving to Meriden in 1977.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Ann L. and Jay Cooke of Stowe, Vt., Elizabeth L. and Ted Baker of Marblehead, Mass.; two granddaughters, Emily and Rachel Cooke of Stowe, Vt. She is also survived by four step-sons and daughters; seven stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren. Mrs. Shaw was predeceased by her first husband, Harold "Bud" Learned Jr. and two brothers, William and Frederick Trevithick.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. at the St. Andrew Episcopal Church, East Main St., Meriden. The Rev. Robert J. Broesler will officiate. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are in the care of the Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Parkinson Disease Association Inc., 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Suite 4B, Staten Island, N.Y. 10305-1946, or to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 803638, Chicago, IL 60680-8984.

Esther Bruenn
MERIDEN — Esther Bruenn, 94, of 320 Colony St., died on Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at the Bradley Home.
She was the daughter of the late William and Albertina Myers Bruenn.
Miss Bruenn was employed by the Napier Co. at one time.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a brother, Earl Bruenn of Middletown.
She was predeceased by three sisters and seven brothers.
A private funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
If friends desire, contributions may be made to the Bradley Home.

Henry J. Bundock Sr.
MERIDEN — Henry J. Bundock Sr., 76, beloved husband of Vera Jastremski Bundock, of Jerome Avenue, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
Born in Wallingford, March 5, 1922, a son of the late Edward and Jennie Gregory Bundock, he attended Lyman Hall High School and Pequot Business Schools and was an outstanding basketball player at both schools. He had been a Meriden resident for the past 53 years, where he had been a self-employed building contractor for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, a fourth degree member of the Silver City Council No. 2 Knights of Columbus of Meriden and had also been a member of the Columbian Club. A veteran of World War II, he had served as a first class machinist mate and as a member of the U.S. Navy Patrol Bombing Squadron No. 127. He had flown medium bombers in North Africa and the Mediterranean Theater. He is registered as an honorary member at the Navy Memorial in Washington , D.C.
Besides his wife, Vera, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry J. Bundock Jr. and Elizabeth A. Bundock of Glastonbury and William J. and Carol Bundock of Meriden; four grandchildren, Brian Bundock, Kim Bundock, Renee Bundock and Larry Bundock; two sisters, Milfred Young of Granville, N.Y. and Ruth Gerace of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a brother, Howard Bundock of Summerland Key, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Mount and two brothers, Roland Bundock and Richard Bundock.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Rose of Lima Church, Center Street, Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Meriden.
