Sophie Miller
CHICAGO –— Sophie (Sears) Miller, 86, of 3441 W. Madison St., died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at Midstate Medical Center, Meriden, Conn.
Born in Rutherford, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Marion and Lula (Upshaw) Sears.
She is survived by one son and his wife, Marion Sears II and Mildred of Meriden; two granddaughters, Sharon Sears Dingle and Debbie Sears both of Meriden; one great-granddaughter, Charisse Nicole Dingle; one grandson-in-law, Charles Kevin Dingle; a very special friend of the family, Damian Dontfraid; and a host of close and special friends from Connecticut and Chicago.
Funeral services will be held at Mount Hebron Baptist Church, Meriden, on Thursday (Oct. 22) at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. There will be no calling hours. The Doolittle Funeral Service, Inc., 14 Old Church St., Middletown, Conn., is in charge of arrangements.

Rose L. Mucci
MERIDEN — Rose L. Mucci, 64, wife of the late Thomas L. Mucci, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in the Olympus Healthcare Center.
A graveside committal service will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
All are invited to attend.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St.,

Katharine Nettleton
MANCHESTER — Katharine (Chaffee) Nettleton, 84, formerly of Conway Road, Manchester, widow of Russell C. Nettleton, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at a local convalescent home.
Born in Meriden on April 3, 1914, daughter of the late Henry and Ruth (Carter) Chaffee, she was raised in Meriden, attending local schools.
She became a resident of Manchester in 1950. She had been employed for most of her adult life as a secretary with the Manchester Board of Education, the Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Co. of East Hartford and Peat, Marwick Attorneys, formerly of Hartford.
She was a charter member of the Community Baptist Church of Manchester and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Glastonbury.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynn N. Scarchuk of Vernon and Virginia N. Ogledzinski of Jacksboro, Tenn.; a son, Wayne R. Nettleton of Vernon; three grandchildren, Michelle Nettleton, Dawn Nettleton and James Scarchuk; a great-grandson, Peter Saunders; a brother-in-law, Frank Nettleton of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the Community Baptist Church, 585 E. Center St., Manchester.
Burial will be private in the East Cemetery, Manchester.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Baptist Church Memorial Fund or the a charity of one's choice.
The Holmes Funeral Home, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. William F. Allen
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Rev. William F. Allen, 91, a 67-year member of the clergy, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998.
He is survived by three sisters, Edna B. Allen and Irene C. Allen, both of Chicopee, Mass., and Mary E. Cadden of Meriden, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass in Holy Name Church, both in Chicopee.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Name Parish Memorial Fund, 33 South St., Chicopee, MA 01013.

John C. Amerose
MERIDEN — John C. Amerose, 76, of Meriden, husband of the late Christel Galuschka Istel Amerose, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, at Westfield Care and Rehab Center in Meriden.
Born July 6, 1924, in Hazelton, Pa., he was the son of the late Carmelo and Carrie (Acri) Amoroso.
Mr. Amerose had lived in Meriden for more than 50 years and was employed by United Technologies for 50 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army, and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church.
Mr. Amerose is survived by three daughters, Reda Amerose-Gawel of Meriden, Claudia Wolfgang of Essex, Vt., and Barbara Bush of West Burke, Vt.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Church.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Eleanor Dickerman
REDDING — Eleanor Dickerman, 91, of 2 Hemlock Trail, formerly of Wallingford, Arlington, Va., and Villanova, Pa., died Wednesday evening, Oct. 14, 1998, at home. She was the wife of the late George Dickerman.
She was born in Haverstraw, N.Y., Feb. 11, 1907, a daughter of the late Edward and Eva Merriman Addis.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Arlington, Va. and had been very active with the altar guild of the church.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Suzanne Rogillio of Louisiana; and two nephews, Benjamin Wooding of Barrington, R.I., and Harvey Wooding of Redding.
A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford.
If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford, is in charge of arrangements.

Ryszard Kaufmann
MERIDEN — Ryszard Kaufmann, 61, of 50 Park St., husband of Helena (Bieniszewski) Kaufmann, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998 at the MidState Medical Center.
He was born May 24, 1937, in Wabrzezo, Poland, and was the son of the late Alphonso and Jadwiga (Cimnicka) Kaufmann.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Barbara Margol of Meriden, and two grandsons, Scott and Andrew Margol; two brothers and two sisters, all of Poland.
He was predeceased by a brother.
His funeral will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at 11 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian burial.
Internment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Sylvia King
SOUTHINGTON — Sylvia (Batura) King, 56, of 109 Malcein Drive, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, at New Britain General Hospital.
She was the wife of Edmond N. King.
Born Dec. 29, 1941, in Meriden, she was the daughter of Jacob "Jack" and Carolyn Batura of Ocala, Fla.
She was a member of St. Dominic Church.
Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by two sons, Lee E. King of Southington and John E. King of Florida; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., and at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Carol J. Kustra
CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. — Carol J. Plunske Kustra, 67, formerly of Meriden, Conn., died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at her home, under the loving care of her family.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1930, a daughter of the late Theodore and Mae Plunske. In 1979, she moved to Florida, where she started and operated several successful businesses.
She is survived by seven children, Clinton Olson of Hollywood, Fla., Charles Olson of Floral City, Fla., Jason Kustra, Eileen Hunter of Cheshire, Conn., Christine Randolph and Dorothy Lee, both of Crystal River, and Jayne O'Donnell of Palm City, Fla.; two brothers, Wayne Plunske of Wallingford, Conn., and Norman Plunske of Citrus Hills, Fla.; a sister, Eunice Gindel, also of Wallingford; 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Chip, and a brother, Paul.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River.
