MORTON J. KAMMERER SR.
MERIDEN — Morton J. Kammerer Sr., 71, of Brooklawn Drive, Meriden, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Mary C. Preira Kammerer.
Mr. Kammerer was born April 18, 1927, in Hamden, son of the late Clement C. and Elizabeth A. Sumner Kammerer, and had been a Meriden resident for the past 43 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stanley Budleski Post 9965. He had been a forman at the AGC Corp. in Meriden for 21 years until his retirement.
He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Madeline C. and Michael R. Smith of Durham, and Barbara J. and Gerald R. Rohaly of Wallingford; four sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Deborah Kammerer of Sanford, Maine, John E. and Pamela A. Kammerer of Bellevue, Wash., Eric S. and Valerie Kammerer of Hamden, and Morton J. Kammerer Jr. of Meriden; 11 grandchildren, Suzanne, Colleen, Marie, Michael, Jeremy, Sarah, James Jr., Robert, John, Christopher and Kelly; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Mary Kammerer of Meriden, and George and Emily Kammerer of New Haven; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Ambrose and Sabina Ambrose.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, when a funeral service will be held. Interment will be private in St. John Cemetery.
CLARENCE T. MICHAUD
MERIDEN — Clarence T. Michaud, 85, of 93 Wilcox Ave., husband of the late Corrine (Guerette) Michaud, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, unexpectedly at his home.
Born Jan. 14, 1913, in Caribou, Maine, he was the son of the late Thomas and Lydia (Bouchard) Michaud, and had lived in Meriden since 1962. Mr. Michaud was employed by United Technologies in North Haven for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nova and James Sullivan of Waterford; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Michaud of Meriden; a nephew, Bryant Beaulieu of Hyde Park, Vt., who was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Michaud; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, from the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 11 a.m. in St. Laurent Church. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m Friday at the funeral home. WILLIAM J. MITNEY
SOUTHINGTON — William J. Mitney, 74, of 96 Clark St., Milldale, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at home. He was the husband of Helen (Kerwicki) Mitney.
Born Dec. 18, 1923, in Shelton, son of the late George and Anna (Devlin) Mitney, he was formerly of Meriden and had retired from the International Silver Co. in Meriden. Mr. Mitney served in the Merchant Marine. He had been a commissioner of the Southington Fire Department, a Justice of the Peace, past president of the Southern Little League and Babe Ruth League. He was an assistant district administratorof District No. 5 and a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Linda Mitney, and their children, Jennifer and Nicole; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and John Wolf, and their children, Joshua and Christopher, all of Meriden; a brother, George Mitney of Enfield;and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Alice Towle, and a grandson, Shane Mitney Jr., and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to Immaculate Conception Church at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. WAVEL SMITH
SOUTHINGTON — Wavel Smith, 78, of 82 Summer St., died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at Ridgewood Health Care. He was the husband of the late Margaret E. (Cargo) Smith.
Born Jan. 9, 1920, in Kentucky, son of the late Rudy and Ina (PearlRose) Smith, he had retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft of Southington. He was a member of the First Congregational Church.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dale Smith of Southington and Kenneth and Jeannie Smith of Fairfield; three brothers, Arvel and Acwood Smith, both of Kentucky, and Forest Smith of Detroit, Mich.; five granddaughters, Tina Jenkins, Tammy Birow, Kathy Smith, Susan Smith and Michelle Potts; a great-grandchild, Christopher Birow. He was predeceased by a son, Sheldon Smith, and a brother, Marvin Smith.
The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery
in Meriden. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
ELSIE L. PANCIERA
MERIDEN — Elsie L. (Santoni) Panciera, 83, of 16 Alanby Drive, wife of the late George Panciera, died unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998.
She was born Dec. 16, 1914, in Austria, and was the daughter of the late Fiorindo and Rina (Bozzardi) Santoni. She attended local schools and had lived in Meriden for most of her life. Mrs. Panciera was employed by the Thompson Candy Co. for 20 years, and more recently was with Unimax in Wallingford for over 10 years, retiring 18 years ago. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and was active with the Senior Citizens of Meriden.
Mrs. Panciera is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Albert Giancola of Meriden; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Judith Panciera of Meriden, and William and Sheila Panciera of Durham; eight grandchildren, Diana Calverley, Janice Turchi, Catherine Bialo, Robert Panciera Jr., John Frasco Jr., Paul Frasco, Lynne St. Lawrence and Elizabeth McLear; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Santoni of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Panciera was predeceased by a sister, Olga Amann, and three brothers, Pio, Ezio and Otto Santoni.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, from the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the funeral home. HARRIET BURGESS
POCATELLO, Idaho — Harriet Burgess, 87, 1450 Juniper Hill, passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at a Pocatello hospital following an illness.
She was born Feb. 25, 1911, in Meriden, Conn., to James Henry and Bessie Linsley Hinsdale. She married William R. Burgess of Grafton, Mass., on June 21, 1951, in Meriden. He died Dec. 13, 1992. Harriet had lived in Pocatello since Nov. 1961, where her husband was an executive with the J.R. Simplot Company. She had several care providers whom she regarded as her angels. Harriet graduated from Dana Hall School, Wellesley, Mass., and the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. She was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a Past Regent of Wyeth Chapter, Pocatello. She also belonged to the Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Phil Burgess of Connecticut; nephews, Webb Southwick (Georgiana) of Waukeshaw, Wis., and Charles Southwick (Nancy) of Wilmette, Ill.; nieces, Sandee Fox (John) of Racine, Wis., and Gay Adams (Craig) of Fenton, Mich.; and nine great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at the Trinity Episcopal Church with Dr. Alex Nagi officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at the Burgess family plot in Massachusetts. Downard Hansen Funeral Home, 241 N. Garfield, is handling arrangements.
SOPHIE DWORAK
FARMINGTON — Sophie (Kawecki) Dworak, R.N., formerly of Blodgett-Roy Drive, died on Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at home. She was the wife of the late Edward D. Dworak for 50 years.
Born in Waterbury, March 31, 1918, daughter of the late Waclaw and Helena (Baranowski) Kawecki, she grew up in Waterbury and lived in Hartford before moving to Farmington over 37 years ago. Sophie graduated from the St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, Waterbury, as a registered nurse and later graduated from the Yale University, Dept. of Public Health, School of Nursing in occupational health. She was a nurse in the pharmaceutical department of G. Fox, Hartford, an R.N. at the Charlotte-Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, and later was employed by the State of Connecticut Health Services for state employees in Hartford for over 30 years, retiring as nurse supervisor. Sophie received a certificate of merit from the State of Connecticut, employees merit award board for performing meritorious service to the State of Connecticut and its citizens. Sophie was a member of the Industrial Nurses' Assoc., the Polish Women's Alliance, the Polish Junior League, Hartford, the Polish National Home, the Connecticut State Employees Assoc. Retirees' Chapter, the Mary Immaculate Academy Parents Club and the Sacred Heart Church.
A loving and devoted mother, she leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Julius "Jay" Giaccone, of New Britain, with whom she made her home; a brother, Henry J. Kawecki of Waterbury; Mrs. Anthony (Marian) Puskarz of New Britain; several cherished sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and devoted friends, including a special nephew, Anthony Richard Puskarz of New Britain, who was the "son" she never had. She also leaves her "grand-dogs", (cocker spaniels), Ginger and Spice. She was predeceased by a brother, Steven Kawecki, and a sister, Anne E. Kawecki.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:15 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burritt Hill.
EMILY LYNCH
MERIDEN — Emily Werner Lynch, 88, of Yale Avenue, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late John Lynch.
Mrs. Lynch was born in East Hampton, Mass., Feb. 26, 1910, a daughter of the late Peter and Alice Niemac Werner and had been a Meriden resident for many years.
She is survived by her two sisters, Helen Brommels of Branford and Catherine Mokosky of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Richard David Lynch.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at 12:30 p.m. at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford.
JAMES P. ROBICHAUD
MERIDEN — James Peter Robichaud, 49, died at Veterans Memorial Medical Center at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11.
He was born on March 8, 1949, in New Britain, son of Elsa Schoch Robichaud and the late Edmund J. Robichaud. Jim attended Dartmouth College and was a 1974 honors graduate of Central Connecticut State College. He loved music, fishing, literature and the outdoors, and took particular pride in his daughter's blossoming career as a singer and actress.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Anne C. Robichaud; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
There will be no funeral or calling hours, but a memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Norwood St., Meriden, with a reception to follow. Arrangements are in the care of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
