MARION SAAS
HAMDEN — Marion Kane Saas, 77, of Putnam Ave., died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. She was the wife of the late William P. Saas.
Mrs. Saas was born in Wallingford, Aug. 5, 1921, daughter of the late John W. and Elizabeth Knope Kane, was a 1939 graduate of Lyman Hall High School, and had been a Hamden resident for the past 36 years. She was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Hamden.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, William J. and Ann C. Saas Sr. and Brian P. and Theresa E. Saas, all of Wallingford; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Saas of Providence, R.I., Dianne I. Saas of Marrietta, Ga., Amy K. Saas of Wallingford, William J. Saas Jr. of Washington , D.C., and Robert T. Saas of Wallingford. She was predeceased by her brother, John E. Kane.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 782 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Wallingford. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to either Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405, or the National Kidney Foundation, 920 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06107. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford.

FRANKLIN R. FARROW
MERIDEN — Franklin R. Farrow, 60, of 29 Hawthorne Terrace, husband of Wilma Sterndale Farrow, died suddenly Saturday afternoon in Meriden.
Born in Lowell, Mass., on May 23, 1938, the son of the late Robert F. and Adrienne Tucke Farrow, he had resided in Meriden for over 29 years. Mr. Farrow was a graduate of Chelmsford (Mass.) High School, a graduate with a bachelor's degree from Lowell Tech, and received a masters degree in chemical engineering from the University of Maine. He was employed by Entelator Inc. of Hamden for some 20 years and also owned and operated Farrow Enterprises of Meriden.
Mr. Farrow was an active member of the Silver City Boxing Club and was the Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in Lowell, Mass., in 1962. He was a very active athlete whose pursuits included training for the senior division of men's boxing. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church and he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Jamie Lamson of Southington; two sons, Bobby Farrow of Las Vegas and William "Wink" Farrow of Meriden; two grandchildren, Joshua and Jordan Lamson of Southington; a sister, Kimberly Cote of Chelmsford, Mass.; and a brother, David Farrow of Chelmsford, Mass. Mr. Farrow was predeceased by a sister, Faith Vaughn of Florida.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, from 4 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the Silver City Boxing Club, c/o 14 Railroad Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

MARGARET HEMGEN
WALLINGFORD — Margaret (Maples) Hemgen, 77, formerly of Hicksville, N.Y., died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998.
Born in Oneota, N.Y., daughter of the late David and Elizabeth (Chase) Maples, she was a resident of Wallingford for 10 years, after retiring from Sears, Hicksville, N.Y., as customer service manager. Mrs. Hemgen founded and was president of the Nassau County Ileitis and Colitis Foundation for five years. She was also president of the Brentwood Village Condominium Association, in Wallingford, for two years.
She is survived by her husband, Norbert H.; her son, Stephen Hemgen of Silver Spring, Md.; three daughters, Karen Sepp of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Mary Jo Livingston of Massapequa Park, N.Y., Barbara Looney of Higganum; and a sister, Ruth (Maples) Bowen of Danbury; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by one brother, David Edward Maples.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Tuesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home. When the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Interment services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, Long Island, N.Y. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Chestelm Health Care Center Auxiliary, P.O. Box 718, 534 Town St., Moodus, CT 06469.

FILOMENA C. AGOSTINI
MERIDEN — Filomena Cubano Agostini, 83, of 380 Crown St., wife of the late Hector L. Agostini, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in the Veterans Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Jan. 10, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Lucia Acevedo. Mrs. Agostini had lived most of her life in Meriden, returning for a short time to Puerto Rico. She had been a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church several years ago.
She is survived by three daughters, Yadira Acevedo of Meriden, Maria Rivera and Jenny Cubano, both of Puerto Rico; four sons, Raul Cubano of Massachusetts, Victor Cubano of Enfield, Jose Gubano and Hector Agostini, both of Meriden; 26 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services beginning Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 West Main St., Meriden, with procession to St. Rose of Lima Church for her 11:15 a.m. funeral liturgy. She will be interred in Walnut Grove Cemetery. There will be calling hours in the funeral home , Sept. 15, 1998, from 5 to 9 p.m.

LORETTA P. DEMARTIN
MERIDEN — Loretta P. DeMartin died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Gino J. DeMartin.
She was born in Meriden Sept. 30, 1919, a daughter of the late George and Mary Smitiana Peszynski. She was a graduate of Meriden High School and Laurel Business College, after which she was employed for two years at Connecticut Telephone. However, most of her life was spent as a loving wife and mother. She was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen (DeMartin) and Richard Stankevich and Dawn (DeMartin) and Lawrence Frase, all of Meriden; two sisters, Cecelia Brusie and Harriet Kozuch, both of Meriden; three beloved grandchildren, Jason Frase, Gregory Frase and Stefan Stankevich, all of Meriden. She was predeceased by two sisters, Emily Drauss and Frances Wiech; and two brothers, Bernard Peszynski and Theodore Peszynski.
The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday from the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, and at 9:15 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron St., Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Edmund Nadolny. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, contributions in Mrs. DeMartin's memory may be made to St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450.

JOHN H. DUBOIS
MERIDEN — John H. DuBois, 95, of 303 Knob Hill Road, South Meriden, husband of Thelma (Lane) Dubois, died on Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at Westfield Care & Rehab Center in Meriden. He was the son of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Curran) DuBois. Mr. DuBois was employed by New Departure, Hyatt-Bearing Division of General Motors and was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church.
Besides his wife, Thelma, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, John H. and Betsy DuBois of Durham, Henry and Ann DuBois of Yalesville and David M. DuBois of South Meriden; five grandchildren, Michelle and James Dubois, Stacey Phenicie and Donald and Sarah Comstock; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Kaiser of Meriden, Marguerite Brandt of Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Nygard of Cheshire; one brother, Lawrence DuBois of Yalesville; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, and at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Angels Church in South Meriden. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

LILLIAN H. GRUNSCHNEDER
MERIDEN — Lillian (Huber) Grunschneder, 92, widow of Frederick Grunschneder, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at a local convalescent home.
She was born in Hartford and had been an employee of the Hartford Gas Co.
She is survived by a nephew and his wife, Frederick J. and Marion Connolly of East Hartford; a sister, Mildred Andrews of West Hartford; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Friends wishing to may send contributions to a charity of their choice.

MARY A. MARCANTONIO
MERIDEN — Mary A. Marcantonio, 92, wife of the late Daniel P. Marcantonio of 33 Cone Ave., died Sunday evening in the Coccomo Memorial after a brief illness.
She was born in Southington, Dec. 26, 1905. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Josephine Donahue Tangney. She was educated in the Southington school system. She and her husband moved to Meriden in 1934 shortly after beginning their marriage. She had worked for a time for the local telephone company in Southington prior to starting her family. Later, she volunteered in the early 1960's at the Meriden Hospital until she was hired as a receptionist. She retired from the hospital after ten years of employment. She was active in the Meriden Senior Citizens and also very much enjoyed gardening and ceramics. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daniel L. and Frances Marcantonio and Terrence R. Marcantonio, all of Meriden; three daughters and a son-in-law, Judith Marcantonio, Mary Lou Marcantonio and Jean and Francis Wysocki, all of Meriden; six grandchildren, Lt. Cmdr. Brian Wysocki, Marc Wysocki, Eric Mitchell, Kurt Mitchell, Danny Marcantonio and Britney Ann Marcantonio; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Her funeral services will begin in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 West Main St., Meriden, on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 8:15 a.m. with her Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 a.m. She will be buried next to her husband in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. Her family extends gratitude to the staff of the Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center for the excellent care given to Mary.

VERNA MCAVOY
HAMMOND, N.Y. — Verna (Thompson). McAvoy, 73, of 869 State Highway 37, died Friday, July 10, 1998. She was the wife of Dr. Byron G. McAvoy.
Born Oct. 29, 1924, in Wallingford, Conn., the daughter of Ernest and Reva Hodge Thompson, she graduated from Lyman Hall High School. She later graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor's degree in music and from Potsdam State University College with a master's degree in music education.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Hunter, Watertown, N.Y., Ellen McAvoy, Minoa, N.Y. and Reva McAvoy, Salt Lake City; a sister, Mrs. John (Althea) Westcott, Wallingford; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was held in Hammond.
Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Music Fund of the Hammond Presbyterian Church, the Hammond Historical Association, or the Hammond Public Library.
