ROSE M. GUDAIN
MERIDEN — Rose Marie "Mitzi" Gudain, 82, of 40 Meriden Ave., wife of the late John J. Gudain, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, in the Connecticut Hospice, Branford, after a brief illness.
She was born in Meriden, Nov. 19, 1915. She was a lifelong resident and was raised by her maternal grandparents, Frederick and Marie Smith. She graduated from St. Mary Parochial School and Meriden High School She was the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Gudain Service Station, now Henry's Mobil, on W. Main Street, and she owned several commercial properties in Meriden. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Dolores A. Gudain; a granddaughter and her husband, Kimberly and Robert A. Burns; a great-granddaughter, Erin Rose Burns; a very soon-to-be-born great-grandson, Maxwell Robert Burns; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral visitation and services will begin Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., with a procession to St. Mary Church for her 11 a.m. funeral liturgy. She will be interred next to her husband in St. Boniface Cemetery. Her family requests contributions to the Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405, or to the M.D. Children's Hospital, 1515 Holcombe St., Houston, TX 77030, in lieu of floral expressions.

ARMANDO POLVERARI
WEST HAVEN — Armando Polverari, 83, of 50 Glen Road, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at the Hospital of St. Raphael's after a short illness. He was the husband of the late Lucy Onofrio Polverari.
Mr. Polverari, son of the late Louis and Rose Ciarloni Polverari, was born on Nov. 21, 1914, in New Haven and had been a resident of West Haven for the past 32 years. He was employed by the New Haven Regional Water Authority's maintenance division for 27 years, retiring in 1980. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in West Haven.
His survivors include his son, Armand Polverari of Wallingford; his three daughters, Donna Polverari of Bloomfield, Teresa Polverari of Branford and Victoria Davis of Wallingford; his sister, Mary Juliano of West Haven; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Gino, Ralph and Angelo Polverari.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., from the West Haven Funeral Home At The Green, 662 Savin Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church at 11 a.m. The hours for visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery.

WENDY A. BELANGER
MERIDEN — Wendy Alwynne Clarke Belanger, 61, of Gracey Avenue, Meriden, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, in her home. She was the wife of Joseph P. Belanger.
Born in Great Dunmow, County Essex, England, Oct. 2, 1936, daughter of Vera Bloom Clarke, of Indiana, and the late Alfred Clarke, she met and married her husband Joseph in Dunmow, Essex, England, and returned with him and their first son to Meriden where they have resided for 40 years. While in England, she had been in the nursing profession and later was a mother and housewife eventually assisting her husband as the bookkeeper for the Belanger Tree Service of Meriden. She was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church, in South Meriden, since 1958.
Besides her husband of 41 years, she is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa Gradzewicz Minton and her husband Richard Minton of Madison, and Renee Belanger Fahey of Meriden; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Kathy Belanger of Meriden and Wayne and Tracy Belanger of Meriden; seven beloved grandchildren, Joseph Gradzewicz, Megan Gradzewicz, Eric Belanger, Matthew Fahey, Sara Fahey, Joshua Belanger and Mary Jo Belanger; two stepgrandchildren, Bradford Bateman and Brittany Bateman; a sister, Robin Clarke in England; and her dear sisters-in-law, Anita, Emma and Faye Belanger. Wendy was predeceased by her 5-month-old daughter, Bonnie Ann Belanger and her son, Keven Belanger, who died when he was 22.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Holy Angels Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

JOSEPH B. CZINE
MERIDEN — Joseph B. Czine, 90, of Meriden, beloved husband of Sally (Sarafin) Czine, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at Coccomo Memorial Health Care in Meriden.
He was born Nov. 23, 1907, in Wallingford, son of the late Benjamin and Susan Bai, and had lived in Meriden all his life. He retired from International Silver Co., as the international human resource general manager, after 47 years of employment. In 1944, he attended Yale University, and completed an engineering, science and management war training program. He received a Certificate of Service from the U. S. government for his contribution to World War II.
Besides his wife, Sally, he is survived by a daughter, Judith B. Czine; and by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Czine was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Mester and Isabel Matson and by a brother, John Czine.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be held on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be private in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to Restoration Fund, St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

JUAN DIAZ
MERIDEN — Juan Diaz, 67, formerly of 10 Elizabeth Court, died Saturday evening, Aug. 1, 1998, at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 24, 1931, he had lived in Meriden for over 40 years.
Mr. Diaz is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa and Vincent Curcurato of Meriden and Candence Diaz and her fiance, Michael Martinez of Middletown; one son, John Diaz and Deborah Pabst of Meriden; eight grandchildren, Vincent, Nicholas, Christopher and Joseph Curcurato; Deanna Martinez and Angel Martinez; Britni Diaz and Jonathan Diaz. He also leaves several sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews and his loving companion, Marilyn Chase.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service to be held on Friday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St.

JOSEPH S. MCNAMARA
WALLINGFORD — Joseph S. McNamara, 85, of Putter Drive, Wallingford, died Sunday Aug. 2, 1998, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
He was the beloved husband of Louise Gayton McNamara.
Born in New Haven, May 29, 1913, a son of the late John and Helen Halligan McNamara, he was a Wallingford resident for 40 years.
Mr. McNamara was the vice president and an owner of the former Bronson and Townsend Co. of Hamden for many years until his retirement 15 years ago.
He was a member of the Knights of St. Patrick of New Haven, the Farms Country Club and the Pilgrims Harbor Golf Club both of Wallingford and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary M. and Steven F. Viegas of Galveston, Texas ; three grandsons, Joseph S. Viegas, Jeffrey S. Viegas and Jason S. Viegas; a sister, Helen Driscoll of Cranford, NJ; a brother, John A. McNamara of Hamden and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Stephen J. McNamara on May 18, 1998, and a sister, Gertrude McNamara.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.

CHARLES H. PHELPS
SOUTHINGTON — Charles H. Phelps, 73, of Fern Drive in the Plantsville section, died peacefully at home embraced by the love of his family, Monday, Aug. 3, 1998.
He leaves his wife, love and friend of 52 years, Shirley Oberempt Phelps.
Born Oct. 17, 1924, in Hartford, he was the son of the late Charles and Isabell Mills Phelps.
He was an art teacher at Washington Jr. High School in New Britain and also worked for Travelers Insurance Co. in Hartford until his retirement in 1986.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Southington.
In addition to his wife Shirley, he leaves two sons, Robert A. Phelps of Plantsville and Jeffrey C. Phelps and his wife Ellen of Glastonbury; his daughter, Marcia J. Phelps of Plantsville; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Evelyn Phelps as well as his brother-in-law and his wife, Charles and Avis Oberempt; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for friends and family on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at 1 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church with a committal service to follow in South End Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any contributions to be made in memory of Charles to Hospice of Central Connecticut, 40 East St., Plainville, for their love, support and compassion throughout his illness. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

HELEN L. WILSON
DANVILLE, Calif. — Helen L. Twerion Wilson, 92, formerly of Chestnut Street, West Haven, died Friday, July 31, 1998, at Danville Village Hospital, Danville.
She was the wife of the late James Wilson.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Ansonia, Conn., March 27, 1906, a daughter of the late John and Adeline Petrosky Twerion, and had been a West Haven, Conn., resident for many years until moving to California five years ago.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, John G. and Harriet Wilson of Wallingford, Conn., and James E. and Carol Wilson of Milford, Conn.; her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Clifford Trowbridge of Danville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may attend a Mass of Christian burial Thursday at 1 p.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church, Wallingford.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford.
