Robert J. Wilson
LAKELAND, Fla. — Robert John Wilson, 61, of 8005 Kaitland Circle, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Paula Lawrence Wilson.
Born Jan. 5, 1937, in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of the late James Wilson and Rose Charbonneau Wilson. He was employed as a claim consultant. He moved to Lakeland in 1996 from Wallingford, Conn. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He was a past president of the Wallingford Community Day Care Center.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Christina Wilson and Patricia Wilson of Windsor and Jennifer Wilson of Tampa; and one brother, James Wilson of Green Cove Springs.
The funeral will be held at the Lanier Funeral Home in Lakeland Thursday, Aug. 6. Burial will take place at Socrum Cemetery, Lakeland.

EVA JABS
NEW BRITAIN — Eva (Kuhn) Jabs, 83, of Collins Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at her home.
Born in Meriden, she had lived in New Britain for the past 55 years. A graduate of Meriden High School and the New Britain Normal School, now Central Connecticut State University, she taught kindergarten and elementary school starting at the Hanover School in South Meriden, then at St. Matthew's Lutheran School in New Britain, and finally at both Chamberlain and Holmes schools in the New Britain public school system. She taught for over 40 years, retiring in 1976. Mrs. Jabs was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in New Britain and of the Alpha Delta Kappa Education Sorority.
Surviving is her husband, Edmund A. Jabs; two brothers, George H. Kuhn and Edward C. Kuhn, both of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Conrad T. Kuhn.
Funeral services are this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran School, 87 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT 06051, to Hospice of Central Connecticut, 205 West Main St., New Britain 06052 or to the Lutheran Home, Congdon St., Middletown, CT 06457.

RUTHANN MOWAD
MERIDEN — Ruthann Pontolillo Mowad, 49, of 556 Old Colony Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at her home following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Robert Mowad.
She was born in Meriden, Aug. 6, 1948, a daughter of Louis and Evelyn Payne Pontolillo of South Meriden. She had been employed at the Curtis Home and was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church in South Meriden.
Besides her husband and her parents, she is survived by four sisters, Evelyn Garcia of Naugatuck, Louise Damiata of Middlefield, Karen Putnam and Terry Labbe, both of Meriden; a brother, James Pontolillo of Prospect; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Her funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 7, at 9 a.m. from the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church in South Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. If desired, contributions in Mrs. Mowad's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 188, North Haven, CT 06473.

NELS I. FARM
HAMDEN — Nels Ivar Farm, 83, husband of Olga Havelick Farm, of 90 Bradley Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, in Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a brief illness.
Mr. Farm was born in New Haven, Dec. 30, 1914, a son of the late Nels K. and Hilda Anderson Farm and had lived in Hamden for many years. He was a mail carrier in New Haven for 26 years, retiring in 1979, and prior to that, he worked for Blue Cross & Blue Shield and the High Standard Co. He received an associates degree from the Stone Business School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church of New Haven, a past commander of the American Legion Post No. 39 of Westville, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the National Association of Letter Carriers AFL-CIO Branch No. 19.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Joyce H. McGeehan and Shirley I. Farm, both of Hamden; two sons, William N. Farm of Wallingford and Robert J. Farm of Hamden; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. in the Bethesda Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may call at Beecher & Bennett, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Bethesda Lutheran Church, 305 St. Ronan St., New Haven, CT 06511.

LAURA LEASK
FAIRFIELD — Laura Manchester Leask, 83, a longtime resident of Fairfield and Meriden, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at the Cambridge Manor, Fairfield, after a long illness. She was the former administrator of the Family Service Association of Meriden.
She was born in Detroit in her home on Vineland Avenue, the daughter of William Charles and Margaret MacGregor Manchester. She lived in Birmingham, Mich., and Ann Arbor before attending and graduating from the University of Michigan, where she met and married H. Burgess Leask, the longtime chief pharmacist of Meriden-Wallingford Hospital and the former owner of the Cyrus Pharmacy in Bridgeport. They lived on both Wormwood Road and Smedley Road in Fairfield, Larkin Court in Stratford and Bronson Avenue in Meriden.
A former teacher, bookkeeper and financial administrator, she was the first administrator of Family Service to be appointed (1969) without a social worker background. When she retired from Family Service in 1976, she left an organization stronger than she found it, in sound financial shape, and serving more people in an expanded area. On retiring in 1976, she and her husband divided their time between Orwell, Vt., and Indiantown, Fla., for 20 years.
Public service was a family tradition. Her first cousin, Robert A. Manchester, was Rotary International (World) president from 1976 to 1977. Like her father, a prominent Michigan corporate attorney, she was active in many civic organizations in Fairfield and Meriden, Vermont and Florida. For example, in Middlebury, Vt., she was on the board of directors of Visiting Nurses and Homemaker Service for many years. She served as treasurer of the Orwell Library Board of Directors and was active in the Congressional Church of Orwell.
Devoted to her husband and children, she is survived by four sons, William Leask, Walter Leask and his wife, Pat, and John (Mac) Leask and his wife, Phoebe, all of Fairfield, and Charles Leask and his wife, Patty Ann, of Middletown; a daughter, Ann Knope and her husband, Will Knope, of Bristol; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Frances Manchester Pendleton of Westwood, Mass.; and numerous nephews, nieces and their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, H. Burgess Leask.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
A memorial service for friends and family will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. at First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairfield Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 411, Fairfield, CT 06430.

FLORENCE ROBERTS
MERIDEN — Florence Frances Tillie Roberts, 82, passed on to life's eternal embrace by the love of her family on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at the Miller Memorial Community.
She was born in Meriden on Oct. 29, 1915, the daughter of the late Michael and Rosalia (Krakowiak) Bozyk. For many years she worked and retired from the records division of the Meriden Police Department. Florence graduated from St. Stanislaus School and Meriden High School. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church in Meriden and the Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. Her family and friends will always remember that her heart was as warm as her kitchen.
Florence was a caring and loving mother to her three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald D. and Gail Roberts, Raymond and Susan Roberts, all of Wallingford, and Richard G. and Julie Roberts of Duluth, Ga. She was a devoted sister to Wanda Bozuchowski of Meriden and the proud grandmother of Michael, Richard, Melissa, Jeffrey, Kelly, Craig and Derek Roberts; and great-grandmother of Trenton Roberts. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who were so very dear to her and the loving and caring family of Miller Memorial Community. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Henry Bossick and three sisters, Helen Parisi, Adeline Aszklar and Maryanne Vecchito.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to St. Stanislaus School, 81 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450.

JOHN BATURA
WINDSOR — John "Jack" Batura, 57, of Windsor, beloved husband of Gwendolyn (Edson) Batura, died Friday, Aug. 7, at his home.
Born in Meriden, he had lived in Windsor since 1965. Jack owned and operated Project Services, where he worked as a project manager. He formerly worked 28 years with ABB in Windsor. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Church in Windsor. Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Along with his wife, Gwen, he leaves three daughters and a son-in-law, Keri Ann Batura of Manchester, Deanna and Shaun Batura Ratches of Manchester, and Tanya Marie Batura of Windsor; a sister, Sylvia King of Southington.
Relatives and friends may gather Monday, 11:15 a.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, and at noon for a Mass of Christian burial in St. Gabriel's Church, Windsor. Burial will follow in Palisado Cemetery, Windsor. His family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donation may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

LENWOOD C. GALLAGHER
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — Lenwood Chester Gallagher, 86, husband of Veleda Mary Fitzsimmons Gallagher of 4080 Mission Bell Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1998, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
Mr. Gallagher was born in Limestone, Maine, on July 21, 1912, a son of the late Chester and Laura Richardson Gallagher.
He was a resident of Middletown for 38 years until moving to Boynton Beach in 1978.
He was employed for 25 years as an inspector with the former New Britain Machine before his retirement in 1967.
He was a member of the Boynton Beach Congregational United Church of Christ and a former member of the Moose Lodge in Middletown.
Besides his wife, he leaves daughters, Norma R. Mozier of Shelton, Patricia A. Fowler of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a son, Dale L. Gallagher and his wife, Janet Gallagher of Meriden; a sister, Lila Davis of Orlando, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Philip L. Gallagher; a sister, Phyllis Libby; a brother, Wendell Gallagher; and a great-grandson, Caleb Gionfriddo.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. in the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice Home Care, 680 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton, CT 06484.
