ELLA LUTKUS
SOUTHINGTON — Ella "Helen" (Yesutis) Lutkus, 88, of 996 Marion Ave., Marion section, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at the Southington Care Center. She was the wife of the late John Lutkus.
Born Nov. 2, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara Yesutis. She had been a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church. Helen was a lifelong resident of Marion and was known as Maggie to her friends and neighbors.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Paula Lutkus of Marion; and her four grandsons, Gregory, William, David and his wife, Janice, and Douglas and his wife, Angela Lutkus.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Aloysius Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.

JAMES P. ARRIGONI
MERIDEN — James P. Arrigoni, 74, of 258 N. Wall St., husband of the late Claire O. Bombassei Arrigoni, died Sunday morning, Aug. 16, 1998, in the Westfield Care and Rehab Center, after a brief illness.
He was born in Meriden, Feb. 4, 1924, the son of the late Angelo and Mary Domatoni Arrigoni and was a lifelong resident. He was a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and he saw action in the South Pacific, where he was wounded in July of 1944 in Guam. Despite severe injuries and, having been told he would not regain full use of his leg, he persevered and went on to a distinguished 26-year career as a Meriden firefighter, retiring in 1981. He was then employed as an assembler with the A.B.S. Pump Co., retiring again in 1990. He was a member of the North Italian Home Club, the Disabled American Veterans, the Retired Firefighter, Police and Widows Association of Meriden, the Marine Corps League and the AARP. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John P. and Valerie Arrigoni and David J. and Lisa Arrigoni, all of Wallingford, and Peter J. and Glendia Arrigoni of Meriden; nine grandchildren, Milissa Arrigoni, Eric Bianca, Jimmy, Alyssa, Sharon, Ellen and Susan Arrigoni, and Imogene and Nikkole Roman.; a sister, Teresa Beaudry of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews.
His military funeral will commence Tuesday Aug. 18, 1998, at 8:15 a.m. from the Smith-Ruzzo funeral Home, 226 West Main St., with procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for his 9 a.m. funeral liturgy. He will be interred with his wife in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

BARBARA H. GROSS
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Barbara H. Gross, 60, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at her home.
Born in Meriden, Conn., July 7, 1938, she was the daughter of Jeanette Gans Gross of Meriden and the late Herman Gross. Mrs. Gross attended Meriden schools.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann and Carl Geiger of Manalapan, N.J., and Debbie Sack of Milford, Mass.; a niece, Lesley Murphy of Wallingford, Conn.; and three nephews, Robert Gross of Wallingford, Conn., and Ronn and Scott Duby of Framingham, Mass.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in B'Nai Abraham Cemetery, Meriden, Conn., with Rabbi Dana Bogatz officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT.

WILLIAM A. MAURI
MERIDEN — William A. Mauri, 79, of 118 Glen Hills Road, husband of Mary L. Johnson Mauri, (Sis), died Aug. 15, 1998, in Veterans Memorial Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Born in Meriden, Aug. 24, 1918, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Rose Tamburine Mauri. Mr. Mauri resided in Meriden all his lifetime, attended Meriden schools and retired after 29 years from Continental Bakery. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy, a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, and a member of the Northern Italian Home Club and Teamsters, Local 457.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Carol A. Mauri and her fiancι, Gary Fontanella of Meriden; one son and daughter-in-law, William L. and Donna Mauri, also of Meriden; two granddaughters and their husbands, Shari and Gary Clementel of Meriden, Michelle and Mark Keegan of Florida; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Shelby Clementel; one sister, Louise Fontanella of Meriden, one brother, Paul Mauri, also of Meriden; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Mauri was predeceased by one sister, Rose Schuelke and three brothers, Louis, Alfred, and Charles Mauri. Mr. Mauri will be missed by his close companion, Minnie.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 188, 127 Washington Ave., North Haven, CT 06473.

GERTRUDE K. MINOR
MERIDEN — Gertrude K. Minor, 84, of 365 Spring St., wife of Lloyd K. Minor, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at the Westfield Care & Rehab Center.
Born in Waterbury, Aug. 4, 1914, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Keough Keena. Mrs. Minor had resided in Meriden for the past 53 years and was employed by the Thompson Candy Co., retiring in 1978. She was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church.
Besides her husband, Lloyd, she is survived by a daughter, Trudy Hart of Pawley's Island, S.C.; a son, Marcus W. Minor of Meriden; two grandsons, Scott Minor of East Hampton and Timothy Minor of Meriden; a great-grandson, Tucker Scott Minor of East Hampton; a niece, Patricia (Kelly) Muscillo of Middletown; and several other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Minor suffered from Alzheimer's disease for many years.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Burial will be in Old Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Angels Church Young at Heart Club.

GEORGE G. PORTO
HAMDEN — George G. Porto, 82, of Pine Rock Avenue, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Meriden. He was the husband of the late Rose Cofrancesco Porto.
Mr. Porto was born in New Haven, Oct. 3, 1915, the son of the late Michaelangelo and Rosina Mongillo Porto, and had been a Hamden resident for the past 34 years. He was employed by the Burndy Corp. in Milford for many years until his retirement. He was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Hamden, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Mount Carmel Council and the Italian-American Club of Hamden. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, George "GG" and Patricia Porto of South Meriden; his daughter and son-in-law, Joann P. and Ralph P. Tortora Sr. of Wallingford; his three grandchildren, Ralph Tortora Jr., Amanda Porto and Danielle Porto; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine DePasquale.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Blessed Sacrament Church, Hamden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.

MYRTLE WOOD
WALLINGFORD — Myrtle Clark Wood, 84, of Parker Street, formerly of North Turnpike Road, died unexpectedly at her home Friday, Aug. 14, 1998. She was the wife of the late William F. Wood.
Mrs. Wood was born in New Haven, March 27, 1914, the daughter of the late Edward and Oleah Fuller Clark and was a lifelong Wallingford resident. She had been employed by the former Stimpson Pharmacy on North Turnpike Road for many years, and had previously been a receptionist at the Choate School. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Mizpah Chapter of Wallingford, the AARP, Wallingford chapter, and the Wallingford Senior Citizens Center. She was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth W. and Larry D. Johnson of Byron, Wis.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Edward Clark and Paul Clark.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., when a funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Eric N. Fjeldal, pastor of the Yalesville United Methodist Church. Interment will be private in Center Street Cemetery, Wallingford. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

ROBERT A. MARTELLI
BRADENTON, Fla. — Robert A. Martelli, 61, of Bradenton, formerly of Southington, Conn., died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Norwichtown Rehabilitation Care Center in Norwich, Conn., surrounded by his loving wife and family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of J. Patricia (Gallo) Martelli.
He was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Waterbury, a son of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Tropasso) Martelli. He was the former director of operations for Better Formed Metals/Plasticglide in Waterbury, Conn., for 35 years until his retirement in 1992. He was an avid fly fisherman and golfer and loved to cook. He was a member of the NRA and served six years in the Army Reserves. He was a communicant of Mary Our Queen Church in Southington.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Alan Levesque of Marlborough, Conn., Kathryn and Louis Bocciarelli of Norwich and Michelle and Steven Douglass of Harwinton, Conn.; a brother, Michael Martelli, and a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Martelli, all of Bradenton; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Carol Martelli, a sister and brother-in-law, Marianne and Joseph Giarratona, all of Waterbury; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Frank Dilisi of West Milford, N.J.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sylvia Gallo of Englewood, Colo.; and six grandchildren, Matthew and Andrea Levesque, Emily, Nicholas and Robert Douglass and Cole Bocciarelli; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from Maiorana Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to Mary Our Queen Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown, Conn. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 2024 E. Main St., Waterbury, CT 06705.

JOSEPH C. WIELAND
WALLINGFORD — Joseph C. Wieland, 81, of Tuttle Avenue, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Margaret Rogan Gere Wieland.
Mr. Wieland was born in Wallingford, Feb. 17, 1917, a son of the late Eugene and Amy Gascai Wieland, and was a lifelong resident here. He had been employed at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Corp. in North Haven for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, and the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Cromwell Superintendent of Schools James L. Gere and Veronica F. Gere of Cromwell; his grandson, David J. Gere of Cromwell; his sister-in-law, Betty (Mrs. Frank) Wieland of Meriden; and his nephew, Alan Wieland, and his wife, Lynn Wieland of Daytona Beach, Fla. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Wieland; his granddaughter, Rebecca Gere, and his daughter-in-law, Philomena Gere.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., when a funeral service will be held. The Rev. Margaret Jay of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford will officiate. Interment will be private in St. John Cemetery.
