Dr. Doris Q. Cecarelli
BRANFORD — Dr. Doris Q. Simons Cecarelli, 68, of Old Post Road, Northford section of North Branford, died Sunday, July 5, 1998 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. She was the beloved wife of Anthony C. Cecarelli.
Dr. Cecarelli was born in Wallingford, May 22, 1930, a daughter of the late Jules and Edna Minnis Simons. She attended Wallingford schools and was a Wallingford resident for 30 years before moving to Northford many years ago. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas, having received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and held a master's degree and a doctorate in psychology from the University of Massachusetts. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Delta Chi. She had been a counselor for the Connecticut state prison system until her retirement. She was also an internationally known genealogist and was a member of the National Genealogy Society and the New Haven Chapter of the American Toastmistresses Association. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Mizpah Chapter No. 37 of Wallingford.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jules E. and Dorothy "Dee" Sweeney, of Eaglebridge, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Florence (Mrs. Lester) Bercier, of Lehigh Acres, Fla.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday (THIS EVENING) from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from The Wallingford Funeral home and at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 North Main St., Wallingford. The Rev. Brendan McCormick, rector, will officiate. Interment will be in Center Street Cemetery, Wallingford.
William J. Dacey
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — William J. Dacey, 79, of Pompano Beach, formerly of Meriden, Conn., died Saturday, July 4, 1998.
A resident of south Florida since 1983, he was a graduate of Duke University, class of 1941. He was vice president and general manager of Scovil Manufacturing Company in Waterbury, Conn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Helen Barry Dacey; two sons, James P. of Pompano Beach, and Thomas M. of Branford, Conn.; and a granddaughter, Kelly Dacey, of Kansas City, Mo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at St. Gabriel Catholic Church of Pompano Beach.
Harlan M. Ellis
ALFRED, Maine — Harlan M. Ellis, 85, of Whichers Mill Road, formerly of Norman Avenue in Wallingford, died Friday, July 3, 1998, at his residence after a long illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Goslin Ellis, who died March 15, 1997.
He was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Mapleton, Maine, a son of Eben and Philia Pulsifer Ellis, and attended schools there. He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W.II, serving in the European and African campaigns. He was employed for more than 25 years with Cytec in Wallingford.
He is survived by a son, Melvin Ellis, of Heidelberg, Germany; two sisters, Delta Ellis of Ashland, Maine, and Musa Powers of Alfred, Maine; and two grandchildren.
Services will be private.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, Maine.
Roger N. Hayner
MERIDEN — Roger N. Hayner, 56, of Pleasant Street, died July 5, 1998, at his home.
Born Sept. 4, 1941, in Troy, N.Y., he was the son of the late Clifford and Marion File Hayner. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Meriden. He was employed at the Hampton Inn in Meriden. Roger has participated in local Special Olympics, winning several gold, silver and bronze medals in bowling. He also participated in the 1995 Special Olympic World Games, winning a bronze medal in bowling.
He is survived by his sister, Caroline Edwards of Cohoes, N.Y.; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Gracemarie Hayner, of Southington; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8 with Eric Henderson, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Meriden, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations in Roger's memory may be made to Residential Management Services, 808 Four Rod Road, Kensington, CT 06037. Burial will take place at Elmwood Hill Cemetery
in Troy, N.Y. on Thursday, July 9.
Lena B. Isola
NORTH HAVEN — Lena Boldi Isola, 77, formerly of 191 Pool Road, North Haven, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, Middletown, after a brief illness. She was the wife of George L. Isola.
She was born in Arezzo, Italy on Feb. 7, 1921, and was the daughter of the late Nazzarano and Giannetta Boldi. She came to this country at the age of 2, settling in North Haven. She was a seamstress for most of her life and later worked for the Town of North Haven Board of Education. She was a parishioner of St. Barnabas Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Anthony (Patricia) Theodore of Deep River; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives in Italy. She was predeceased by a sister, Rose Burr.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
John Koozmitch
MERIDEN — John Koozmitch, 80, husband of the late Sophie (Stankiewicz) Koozmitch, died on Sunday, July 5, 1998 at Veterans Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Meriden on June 2, 1918, he was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Koozmitch. He was a lifelong resident of Meriden and was educated in local schools. Mr. Koozmitch was employed by New Departure, Hyatt-Bearing Division of General Motors until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Air Forces. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church and a past commander of V.F.W. Post 585 in Meriden. He was a member of the Elks Meriden Lodge No. 35, the American Legion Post No. 45 and of the Senior Citizens Center. John played baseball with the Meriden Red Devils in his youth and he was an avid animal lover.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Natalie and Jack King of Meriden; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Michael, Walter and William Koozmitch.
The funeral and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden.
Robert E. LeHerissier
MERIDEN — Robert E. LeHerissier, 71, of 302 Glen Hills Road, husband of Regina (Hluszti) LeHerissier, died on Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden on Aug. 10, 1926, he was the son of the late Albert and Sally (Guest) LeHerissier. He was a lifelong resident of Meriden and had attended local schools. Mr. LeHerissier was employed by The Curtis Home in Meriden for 15 years, retiring in 1991. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy, and he was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church. Robert was a member of the Eagles Club No. 720 and of A.A.R.P.
Besides his wife, Regina, he is survived by three daughters, Regina Feldman, of Middletown, Barbara Tkacz, of South Meriden, and Karen Shonta, of Middlefield; a son, Robert M. LeHerissier of Sandusky, Ohio; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Boland, of Meriden and a brother, William LeHerissier, of Meriden. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and was predeceased by a sister, Elaine LePointe, and by two brothers, Walter and Albert LeHerissier.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden and at 9 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, South Meriden. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, P.O. Julia C. Palicki
MERIDEN — Julia C. Palicki, 88, formerly of 109 Sylvan Avenue, wife of the late Albert Palicki, her husband of 25 years, died suddenly on Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Meriden Care & Rehab Center in Meriden.
Born in Elizabeth, N.J., on May 28, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Straub) Burghardt. Mrs. Palicki had lived in Meriden for the past 50 years. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and was an active member of the Meriden Senior Center.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Gerald Asplund, of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Janet Shatas, of Southington; five grandchildren, Lori Peck, Steven Asplund, Gerald Asplund Jr., Roxanne Senerchia and Karin Coppola; four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Chelsea, Sarah and Meghan; and a brother, Charles Burghardt. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, John and George Burghardt.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden and at 11 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Giorgio A. Giacco
MERIDEN — Giorgio A. Giacco, infant son of Joseph and Gaetana Bafumi Giacco, of 75 Fowler Ave., died Sunday, July 5, 1998, in the Connecticut Children's Hospital.
He was born in Middletown, June 29, 1997, and baptized in St. Sebastian Church.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Alessandra Giacco; his maternal grandparents, Pietro and Carmela Bafumi of Middletown; his paternal grandparents, Giorgio and Maria Giacco Sr. of Meriden; maternal grandmothers, Gaetana Bafumi of Middletown and Maria Nibali of Italy; paternal grandmothers, Carmela DeStefano and Carmela Giacco, both of Meriden; four uncles and three aunts, Anthony and Enza Giacco, Aldo and Pamela Giacco, George Giacco Jr., and Nicholas and Josephine Bafumi; and many cousins, great-aunts and uncles.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at 11 a.m., in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He will be entombed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery
Mausoleum.
