Marion R. Yates,
a longtime Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 at home. She was 64.
She died of cardiac arrest, according to her family.
Born July 16, 1936, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Marion Bocchino Wiley.
Mrs. Yates was a secretary for Union Trust in Stamford for five years. She also worked for Lomas Nettleton Real Estate Mortgage & Insurance in Stamford.
She was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Stamford.
She is survived by her husband, Edward W. Yates of Stamford; two daughters, Theresa H. Denham of Monroe and Carolyn M. Loughran of Walpole, Mass.; a son, Edward C. Yates of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; a sister, Helen Stelzer of Bethlehem, Pa.; and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Wiley.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 8, 2001 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, and proceed to St. Cecilia Church, 1184 Newfield Ave., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m.
Burial will be private.

Norma Ventres,
a New Canaan resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 72.
She died of cardiac arrest, according to her family.
Born Sept. 4, 1928, in Worcester, Mass, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Gladys Lantz Chapman.
Mrs. Ventres was a Eucharist minister at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan.
She is survived by her husband, Romeo Ventres of New Canaan; two sons, Richard Ventres of Danbury and Michael L. Ventres of Bethlehem; a brother, Harold Chapman of Spokane, N.Y.; five daughters and 15 grandchildren.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 8, 2001 at F. Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 at St. Aloysius Church, 40 Maple St., New Canaan.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery

Rose Marie Luetters,
a longtime Norwalk resident, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 78.
She died of a heart attack, according to her family.
Born May 26, 1922, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Barbara Radman Belanich.
Mrs. Luetters was a graduate of Merrill Business School, formerly in Stamford. Before her retirement, she was employed for 17 years as the secretary to the general manager of McCalls magazine in Stamford.
She is survived by a son, Richard Luetters of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; a daughter, Dorothy Gail Luetters of Norwalk; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hans Luetters.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk.
A service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery
in Darien.
Vivian E. Keeler,
a lifelong Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. She was 73.
She died of cancer, according to her family.
Born March 8, 1927, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late William E. and Anna Clark Morganstern.
Mrs. Keeler retired as a customer service representative for Union Trust Co. She was a member of St. Maurice Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Donahue of Stamford; a son, Harold "Chuck" Keeler Jr. of Stamford; three sisters, Shirley Ayles of New Castle, Pa., Marlene Sagnelli of Darien and Joan Denes of Stamford; two brothers, William H. Morganstern of Salem, Ore., and Francis X. Morganstern of Stamford; and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold J. Keeler Sr.

William Basil Chariott,
a lifelong Norwalk resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 62.
He died of heart failure, according to his family.
Born Sept. 26, 1938, in Norwalk, he was a son of the late Eugene and Kathryn Sculley Chariott.
Mr. Chariott was the owner of Chariott Clean-up Service of Norwalk. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Panama. He was a member of the Sons of Italy and Teamsters Local 191 of Bridgeport.
He is survived by his fiance, Phyllis Finelli Guarino of Norwalk; a brother, Anthony Chariott of Norwalk; six sisters, Kathryn Stewart, Margaret Anderson, Ann Willigan, Alyse Benincaso, Claire Odierno and Judith DiMeglio, all of Norwalk; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Garfunkel.

Howard Clark
GREENWICH - Howard Clark, a visionary corporate executive who manned the helm at American Express while it developed into a corporate giant, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001. He was 84.
Mr. Clark was named president and chief executive of American Express in 1960, when the now-ubiquitous green charge card was only 2 years old.
Although the company was losing money, Mr. Clark declined to sell the business to Diners Club, a competitor, and instead chose to aim the card at wealthy travelers taking advantage of the burgeoning growth of commercial air travel.
The gamble paid off because after an aggressive advertising campaign in which people with well-known names but not-so-well-known faces asked "Do you know me?" the company began to turn a profit.
A second successful campaign told travelers to "Don't leave home without it," helping to increase the company's sale of travelers checks.
When Mr. Clark retired as chief executive in 1977, the company had 650 offices in 108 countries and more than 8 million cardholders.
After retirement, Mr. Clark devoted his life to philanthropy and golf.
Michele Altamura
Michele Altamura of Ariola, Italy, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at home. He was 86.
Joan Symulevich,
a longtime resident of Stamford, and former resident of White Plains, N.Y., died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at Smith House Nursing Facility in Stamford. She was 87.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Oct. 9, 1913, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Martha Symulevich.
Ms. Symulevich attended White Plains schools. She was a bank teller at Hartford National Bank in Stamford until her retirement in 1978.
She is survived by a brother, Henry Symulevich Sr. of Clearwater, Fla.; a niece, Lola Thomson of Stamford; another niece and five nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Barrego and Mary Battee.
Services and burial will be private.
