John T. Gallagher
WALLINGFORD - John Thomas Gallagher, 66, beloved husband of Nancy Lersch Gallagher, of Hill Avenue, Yalesville, died Tuesday June 1, 1999, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford from complications following a recent hospital stay. He was a wise and loving father to his children, Mary and Mark Verselli of Wallingford, and Karen and David Giangrande of Andover, Mass., and he will be greatly missed by his five adoring grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Verselli, and Kristina, Liza and Peter Giangrande.
John was born in Boston, Feb. 25, 1933. A son of the late Mary and Thomas Gallagher, he was a graduate of Boston College and served for 10 years in the National Guard in Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania . He recently retired as manager of Information Systems for Allegheny Teledyne Corp.'s Wallingford plant after 40 years of service. John continued to serve as treasurer and chief executive officer of Wallingford Steel Employees Federal Credit Union, a position he held for 27 years. An avid supporter of the credit union philosophy of "people helping people," he also enjoyed a distinguished career in the credit union movement, serving on the Connecticut Credit Union League (CCUL) Board of Directors from 1986 to 1999, holding the positions of chairman, vice chairman and secretary. In addition, he served as a board member for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) from 1991 to 1994. John was a strong political advocate, serving as a trustee of the Credit Union Action Committee (CUPAC) and past assistant treasurer of the organization. His leadership enabled his credit union to earn the Summit Award in 1996, 1997 and 1998 in recognition of its outstanding contributions to CUPAC.
John also served as trustee and member of the CCUL Charitable Foundation, which makes charitable donations to organizations throughout Connecticut. In 1998, he earned the prestigious Quarter Century Credit Union Honor Award in recognition of his more than 25 years of service to the credit union movement he so enthusiastically supported.
John was also an active parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Yalesville , for the late 29 years. He volunteered his time, talent and energy to many parish activities, serving as a eucharistic minister, as well as an instructor for the religious education program.
Mr. Gallagher's survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, James and Kathleen Gallagher of Concord, Mass.; four sisters, Catherine and Ann Gallagher of Boston, Mary Leahy of Westwood, Mass., and Frances Hensley of San Antonio; his sister-in-law, Mary Harper of Madison; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Gallaher's family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Road, Yalesville, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden.
Mr. Gallagher's family requests that gifts in his memory be sent to the Connecticut Credit Union League Charitable Foundation, 110 S. Turnpike Road, Wallingford, CT 06492, or to Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06450.

George S. Hill
WALLINGFORD - George Sumner "Bunker" Hill, 86, of the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, loving husband of May Thompson Hill for 63 years. He was formerly of Ivy St., prior to moving to Falmouth, Maine, and returned to Wallingford in 1994.
He was born in Marblehead, Mass., June 4, 1912, a son of the late Dr. George and Alice Boardman Hill. He was a member of Compass Lodge No. 9 AF and AM in Wallingford and the Kora Temple Shriner's in Portland, Maine.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Judy Hill of Cheshire; and a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Duncan Phyfe of Old Saybrook; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Masonic Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Allen of Ashlar Village officiating. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours, if friends desire, gifts in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 188, North Haven, CT 06473-0188. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., is in charge of arrangements.

Flora H. Marcus
WEST HARTFORD - Flora H. Marcus, 104, wife of the late Edward Marcus, died May 22, 1999, at the Hughes Convalescent Home, West Hartford. She was born in Boston, on April 16, 1895, and resided in Hartford for many years, as well as Brookline, Mass and most recently in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
She is survived by her daughter, Natalie M. Friedman and son-in-law, Samuel of Southington; a son, Henry Marcus and his wife, Randi of Simsbury; grandsons, Lee Friedman and his wife, Audrey of Clifton Park, N.Y., Donald Friedman and his wife Cindie of Glastonbury, Daniel Marcus of Simsbury, Jonathan Marcus of Avon; a granddaughter, Molly Marcus of Simsbury; five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Evan Friedman, Jacob and Eliza Friedman, and Alexandra Marcus.
Private graveside services for the immediate family were held May 24, in Woburn, Mass.

Constance L. Memery
HAMDEN - Constance L. Parker Memery, 92, of 59 Ralston Ave., Hamden, died Monday, May 31, 1999. She was the wife of the late James S. Memery.
She is survived by two sons, James P. Memery and his wife, Marcia of Manchester, and Robert M. Memery and his wife, Diane of Wallingford; two sisters, Mrs. Leroy A. Shattuck Jr. (Ellen) of McMurray, Pa., and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mrs. Frank H. Woods (Kay) of Groton, Mass.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. William Conklin (Gerie).
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday June 4, at Hamden Plains United Methodist Church, 15 Church St., Hamden. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 3, at Beecher & Bennett, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will be private in Centerville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hamden Plains United Methodist Church , P.O. B4333, Hamden, CT 06514.

Anna Agli
MERIDEN - Anna (Groncheski) Agli, 84, of 38 Birch Road, beloved wife of 64 years to her late husband Louis G. Agli, died on Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Coccomo Memorial Health Care in Meriden. Born in Wallingford on June 2, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Sophie (Komarski) Groncheski. Mrs. Agli had lived in the Meriden-Wallingford area for all of her life was educated in Wallingford schools, and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Meriden.
She is survived by: two daughters and son-in-law, Geraldine "Jeri" Hayes and Joyce and Peter Reid Fitzgerald all of Meriden; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Louis Agli Jr., and Mary Agli of South Meriden, Thomas Agli of Meriden, James and Judy Agli of Branford, and Bruce and Bonnie Agli of Meriden; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Benjamin and Richard Groncheski; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial beside her loving husband, Louis, will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451. The family would like to thank the staff at Coccomo Memorial for their outstanding and loving care they gave Anna Rose.

Robert W. Bonnardi
WALLINGFORD - Robert W. Bonnardi, 76, beloved husband of Margaret L. Van Dermaelen Bonnardi, of Cardinal Drive, Wallingford, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, after a lengthy illness at MidState Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Bonnardi was born in New Haven, Sept. 29, 1922, a son of the late Christina Barletta Bonnardi, and had been a Wallingford resident for the past 36 years. He had been employed at the Camco Fittings Co. in Hamden for 15 years until his retirement, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his four daughters, and sons-in-law, Christina L. and Craig Chalifoux of Meriden; Janet M. and Frank Esposito of Hamden, Roberta A. and Steve Murray of Wallingford, and Marianne and Jason Brooks of Wallingford; a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur J. and Debbie Bonnardi of Wallingford; his 13 grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Lawrence Migliore of Northford; his brother and sister-in-law, William and Elizabeth Bonnardi of Hamden; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Allen Bonnardi.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Monday from 10 until 11:30 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon. Interment, with military honors, will be in Memoriam Cemetery.

Carol G. Dannenhoffer
MILFORD - Carol G. Dannenhoffer, 60, of Country Lane Milford, wife of Andre J. "Andy" Dannenhoffer, beloved daughter of Philip and Ann Testa Pilla of Orange, died on Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in her home after a long illness. Born Feb. 22, 1938, in the Bronx, N.Y., she was a resident of Milford for 36 years. Mrs. Dannenhoffer was a billing supervisor for Eagle Leasing of Orange for 15 years, and was a parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Church in Milford.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Dannenhoffer is survived by: two sons, Daniel J. Dannenhoffer and his wife, Susan, of North Haven, Thomas P. Dannenhoffer and his wife, Nancy, of Bethany; two daughters, Denise A. Heinig and her husband, Robert, of Wallingford, Debra A. Hubbell and her husband Richard of North Haven; one sister, Ann Geissler of Orange; 12 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, John H. Strachan.
Services will take place Monday at 10:15 a.m. from the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street on the Green, Milford, with a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. in Christ the Redeemer Church, Milford. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Friends may call Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

Jane Kafka
NEW HAVEN - Jane Furtak Kafka, of 343 Eastern St., New Haven died March 30, 1999, in the hospital of St. Rapahel. She was 80 years of age and the wife of the late George Kafka. Mrs. Kafka was born in New Haven, Sept. 17, 1918 a daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette Jacek Furtak. She had worked for several years with former Federal Paper Board Co. in New Haven before her retirement.
She is survived by her daughters Lorraine Raybuck of Ohio, Barbara Zygmunt of Wallingford and Anita Bencivengo of Guilford; her sister Sophie Popieniek of Meriden; her brothers, Joseph and Thaddeus Furtak of Hamden; and her grandchildren, Hale Chiappone, Karen Raybuck, Justine Morrison, Christopher, Janeen, and Erica Zygmunt, Amy and Katherine Bencivengo. She was predeceased by her son Walter Kafka; and her brothers Edward and Leon Furtak.
Her funeral will leave the Lupinski Funeral Home, 821 State Street., New Haven, Saturday at 11 a.m. for a Blessing in St. Stanislaus Church at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday April 5, 1999, at 8 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church.

Leonard R. Koziara
FARMINGTON - Leonard R. Koziara, 88, of Scott Swamp Road, Farmington, husband of Cecelia (Charlette) Koziara, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Ingraham Manor, Bristol. Mr. Koziara was born in Meriden on May 13, 1910 and was a son of the late Stanley and Honorata (Pinkos) Koziara. A lifelong Meriden resident, he was employed at the Middletown Press for 20 years retiring in 1983.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Koziara is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Caorle and William Guiel of Simsbury; two sisters, Frances Stepanek and Jeanette Vesey both of Meriden; a granddaughter, Catherine Guiel; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be private. Burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Meriden, will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, is in charge of arrangements.

Marco LaPorta
CASTRA, ITALY - Marco LaPorta, 84, died April 1, 1999, in Castra Italy, formerly of Southington.
Mr. LaPorta is survived by his wife, Alveria (Ladi) LaPorta; one son, Anthony; one sister, Viola DiMassa; two brothers, Peter, and Andrew; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Domick and Joseph.
Funeral services will be in Castra Italy.

Julia M. Manware
SOUTHINGTON - Julia M. Manware, 89, of 138 Bristol St., died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Southington Care Center. She was the wife of the late Eugene Manware.
Born Jan. 10, 1910, in Southington, daughter of the late Joseph and Sophie (Albrycht) Nemic. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Church. She served as a volunteer at St. Thomas Church and was a member of the St. Thomas Church Ladies Guild.
She is survived by: two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael J. and Ann Manware, Eugene and Marion Manware; two daughters, Patricia Salerno and Carol and Son-in-law, John Brunalli; two brothers, Edward and Peter Nemic all of Southington; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Ralph Salerno; three brothers, John Stephen, and Charles Nemic; two sister, Mildred and Nellie.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. from Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Thomas Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to St. Thomas School Association, 99 Bristol St., Southington, CT 06489.

Charles J. Martin
HARTFORD - Charles John Martin, 46, of Wetherfields Avenue, Hartford, formerly of Meriden, died March 21, 1999, son of Dixie LaFountain, and the late Charles Henry Martin.
Charles was a self-employed musician.
