Thomas W. Branch
MERIDEN - Thomas Woodward Branch, 71, Old Colony Road, Meriden, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at MidState Medical Center.
Mr. Branch was born in New Haven, May 24, 1927, the son of the late Arthur M. and Sadie Woodward Branch, and had been a North Haven resident for many years until moving to Meriden 22 years ago. A car salesman for many years, he had been employed at several area Ford dealerships for many years, and had also been employed at Ulbrich Stainless Steels and Special Metals Inc., in Wallingford for several years. He had also been a race car driver in Connecticut and Massachusetts. He was an U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and of the Korean War, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Budleski Post No. 9965 in Yalesville.
He is survived by his lifelong companion, Beverly J. Sittnick of Yalesville; her two daughters, Dianne L. Couillard of Wolcott, and Donna L. Kirby of Middletown; her three grandchildren, Jacquelyn Couillard, Michael Couillard, and Bryan Kirby; and his cousin, Evelyn Hutchinson of Ojai, Calif.
Friends will be received at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Raymond S. Hansen
WALLINGFORD - Raymond S. Hansen, 38, of 81 Washington St., Wallingford, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999; husband of Lillian DeCosta Hansen; father of Joshua and Zacharey Hansen of Memphis, Tenn.; son of James Hansen of Milford and Marie Bowen Hansen of New Haven; brother of Ralph Hansen of Bridgeport, Ernie Rapson of South Boundbrook, N.J., Janice Hansen of Stratford and Donna Comeau of Columbia, S.C.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Fitzgerald Memorial Funeral Home, 209 Center St., Wallingford. Interment of Cremains with full military honors will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.

Jane Kajka
NEW HAVEN - Jane Furtak Kajka, of 343 Eastern St., New Haven, died March 30, 1999, in the hospital of St. Rapahel. She was 80 years of age and the wife of the late George Kajka. Mrs. Kajka was born in New Haven, Sept. 17, 1918, a daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette Jacek Furtak. She had worked for several years with former Federal Paper Board Co. in New Haven before her retirement.
She is survived by her daughters Lorraine Raybuck of Ohio, Barbara Zygmunt of Wallingford and Anita Bencivengo of Guilford; her sister, Sophie Popieniek of Meriden; her brothers, Joseph and Thaddeus Furtak of Hamden; and her grandchildren, Hale Chiappone, Karen Raybuck, Justine Morrison, Christopher, Janeen, and Erica Zygmunt, Amy and Katherine Bencivengo. She was predeceased by her son Walter Kajka; and her brothers, Edward and Leon Furtak.
Her funeral will leave the Lupinski Funeral Home, 821 State St., New Haven, Saturday at 11 a.m. for a Blessing in St. Stanislaus Church at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday April 5, 1999, at 8 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church.

John R. Knox
MERIDEN - John R. Knox, 77, of 292 Thorpe Ave.,formerly of Naples, Fla., and Meriden, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at the Connecticut Baptist Homes. He was the husband of the late Marcia Phinney Knox. He was born in Shelton, July 18, 1921, a son of the late Harry and Jessie Freeman Knox.
A graduate of Stockbridge School of UMass Amherst, Mr. Knox was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army. Until the sale of the family business, Restland Farm in Northford, he was executive chef and operating manager. He was director of the Community Banking Co., for many years and was a land developer. He was an avid golfer. He was a member of Corinthian Lodge No. 103 AF & AM in North Haven for over 50 years, and a board member of the Shrine and a former member of the Northford Episcopal Church.
He is survived by; two daughters, JoAnn Richards of Meriden and Linda Gibbon of Williamsburg, Mass; a sister, Jane LaFountain of Durham; a grandson Brett Richards of Rye, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Pamela Fettig of Marlborough, Mass.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Connecticut Baptist Homes, 292 Thorpe Ave., Meriden. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Connecticut Baptist Homes or the charity of one's choice.
The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford, is in charge of arrangements.

John J. Lawrence
WALLINGFORD - John J. Lawrence, 87, beloved husband of Henrietta Germain Lawrence, of South Colony Road, Wallingford, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Skyview Center.
Born in Wallingford, Dec. 29, 1911, a son of the late Alexander and Mary Pardoni Lawrence, he had been a lifelong Wallingford resident. He had attended North Main Street School in Wallingford, and H.C. Wilcox Technical School in Meriden, and was an artist and storyteller. He had been employed at the former Stanley-Judd Co. and was also employed by International Silver Co., until his retirement in 1978. In 1948, he and his wife, Henrietta, were the founders of the former Tots and Teens Store, a family business, later operated by their son and daughter-in-law, Richard M. and Barbara Cavanaugh of Wallingford. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection.
Besides his wife, Henrietta, son, Richard M. Cavanaugh and daughter-in-law, Barbara Cavanaugh, he is survived by his grandchildren, Richard M. and June Cavanaugh of Cheshire, Margaret M. "Meg" Cavanaugh and John P. Cavanaugh of Wallingford and Michael D. and Laurie Cavanaugh of Honolulu; five great-grandchildren, Amanda, Alexis and Ashley Cavanaugh of Cheshire, and Shane and Blair Cavanaugh of Honolulu; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie and John Messek of North Haven, and Alda Lawrence of Waterford; five brother and two sisters-in-law, Arthur and Pauline Lawrence, Dr. Robert and Ann Lawrence, and Henry Lawrence, all of Wallingford, Alex Lawrence of Washington , D.C., and Frances Lawrence of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Provasoli, and two brothers, Joseph and William Lawrence.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held MONDAY at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Visiting Nurses Association of Wallingford, 135 N. Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT 06492, or to the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Anna Balsamini
WALLINGFORD - Anna Balsamini, 82, resident of Regency House in Wallingford for the past eight years, formerly of South Side Drive, Wallingford, New Haven and West Haven, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in Yale New Haven Hospital.
Born in New Haven, Nov. 19, 1916, daughter of the late Custode and Virginia Girolametti Balsamini, she had been a resident of New Haven for many years, then had been a resident of West Haven for 14 years before moving to Wallingford in 1989. She had been employed by SNET as a telephone operator for many years until her retirement in 1985. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony Church in New Haven for many years and was a member of the Ladies Guild. She was a member and past treasurer of the Marchegian Society for many years.
Miss Balsamini is survived by her sister, Mary B. (Mrs. Vincent) Scalesse of Wallingford, with whom she resided; her nieces and nephews, Marilyn S. and Kevin E. Gannon of Wallingford, Charles V. and Patricia H. Scalesse of New Haven; her grandnieces and grandnephews, Edward P. and Theresa Gannon of Meriden, David V. and Nadine Gannon of Wallingford, Kelly Gannon of Wallingford, Charles V. Scalesse of New Haven, Kristin A. Scalesse of New Haven; three great-grandnieces, Rose and Barbara Gannon of Meriden, and Jenna Leigh Gannon of Wallingford.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St, Ext., Wallingford, Thursday (TODAY) from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Anthony Church, 70 Washington Ave., New Haven, for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and gifts in her memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave, No. 104, Hamden, CT 06518.

Joseph B. Bober Jr.
ABINGTON - Joseph B. Bober Jr., 69, of Rich Road, Abington, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, in West Haven. He was the husband of Lorraine T. Kiczuk Bober.
Born in Meriden, Oct. 18, 1929, son of Ann K. Sabota Bober, of Wallingford, and the late Joseph B. Bober Sr., he was raised in Wallingford and had lived in Winsted eight years before moving to Abington 32 years old.
He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and had been a teacher at Brooklyn Jr. High School for many years until his retirement. He had previously been employed by American Cyanamid, in Wallingford. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Noank Yacht Club, the Connecticut Teachers Association, and the VFW of East Killingly. He had been a parishioner of SS. Peter & Paul Church.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan J. Marshall of Voluntown, and June L. and Raymond Depulski of Norwich; three sons, Joseph T. Bober of Middletown, Thomas S. Bober of Indianapolis, Ind., and James M. Bober of West Woodstock; seven grandchildren, Melissa Marshall, Christine Marshall, Joseph Bober, Michael Bober, Sarah Bober, Jesse Bober, and Rachel Bober, and several nieces and nephews.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St, Ext., Wallingford, Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter & Paul Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Carlos Arce Montes DeOca
MERIDEN - Carlos Arce Montes DeOca 69, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Meriden MidState Medical Center. He was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Aguada, Puerto Rico.
He is survived by eight sons and daughters, Carlos Arce Jr., Hilda Arce, Adalberto Arce, Yolanda Arce, Eugenio Arce, Angel Arce, Maritza Arce Pratts and Aida Luz Arce; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and by seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral will be private in Puerto Rico. Friends and relatives may call Hilda Arce at 238-0456 or 237-9384.

Eileen W. Gould
KILLINGWORTH - Eileen W. Gould, age 75, of 36 Bethke Road, Killingworth, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at her home. She was the beloved wife of Robert C. Gould. She was born in New York City, Jan. 12, 1924 daughter of the late Robert and Nora (O'Rourke) Walker. Mrs. Gould moved to Killingworth from Meriden 25 years ago. For the last five years she was a teacher's aide at Burr Elementary School in Haddam. She was a life member of the Oradell Fire House Community Theatre in Oradell, NJ, a member of St. Rose's Church in Meriden and St. Lawrence Church in Killingworth where she was a member of the choir. Besides her husband of 48 years she is survived by four sons, Robert E. Gould of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Christopher J. Gould of Bowdoinham, Maine, Donald E. Gould of East Hampton, and Thomas J. Gould of Brunswick, Maine; a daughter, Kathleen Ann Beenel of Austell, Ga., and seven grandchildren.
Funeral liturgy will be held Saturday, March 13, at noon at St. Lawrence Church, 19 Hemlock Drive, Killingworth. Burial will be in State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at St. Lawrence Church parlor, Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon.
Contributions may be made to the Middlesex Hospice, c/o Middlesex Hospital, 55 Crescent Street, Middletown, 06457 or St. Lawrence Altar Society, 19 Hemlock Drive, Killingworth, 06419. The Swan Funeral Home, 80 East Main Street, Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

George Nicolaides
WALLINGFORD - George Nicolaides, 62, husband of Garifalia (Faly) Kapetaneas Nicolaides of 39 Woodland Drive, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at home. He was born on January 30, 1937 in Athens, Greece, a son of the late John and Maria Vasilatos Nicolaides.
He was a parishioner of St. Basil's Greek Orthodox Church in New Haven. After serving in the Greek Navy, he came to America. He worked with his wife and family running the family business Colony Pizza House in Wallingford. He was a member of Meridian Lodge No. 77 A.F. and A.M. in Meriden.
In addition to his wife Faly, he is survived by two sons, Stratos (Steve) Nicolaides of Congres, NY., and Mario Nicolaides of Wallingford; one grandson, Christopher Nicolaides.
Relatives and friends are invited to a service on Friday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Basil's Greek Orthodox Church, 1 Tower Lane, New Haven. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the Friends may call at the B.C. Anna Vasko
BRIDGEPORT - Anna Vasko, age 88, of Bridgeport, wife of the late Stephen Vasko, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in her home. Born in Brisco, NY, Mrs. Vasko was a Bridgeport resident for over 46 years. She is survived by a son, Stephen Vasko Jr., of Louisiana; her devoted daughter, Barbara Haviland of Bridgeport; a sister Alice Smith of NY; six grandchildren, Stephen and Michael Vasko, Richard and Diana Wright, and Lawrence Haviland Jr., and Leon Haviland; several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 10 a.m. in the Frank Polke & Son Funeral Home, 1546 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Emery's Church, Kings Highway, Fairfield. Burial to follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
