John J. Carlini,
a longtime Stamford resident, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was 65.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born April 24, 1935, in Saranac Lake, N.Y., he was a son of the late Innocenzio "James" and Josephine Grassi Carlini.
Mr. Carlini worked in security at Westfield Court. He worked for Bloomingdale's in shipping for 35 years.
He is survived by a sister, Annette Perito of Stamford; a brother, Lawrence Carlini of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, William Carlini and Anthony Carlini; and a sister, Virginia Carlini.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford.
Burial will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford.
John Mitchell Owens,
a Norwalk resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at home. He was 37.
He died of heart failure, according to his family.
Born July 5, 1963, in Buzzard's Bay, Mass., he was a son of Robert and Marjorie Riley Owens of Norwalk.
Mr. Owens graduated from Briggs High School in Norwalk in 1981. He was a self-employed painter. He also was a drummer who had played in several bands.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Tara Leite; two brothers, David Owens and James Owens, both of Norwalk; his maternal grandfather, Robert Riley of Norwalk; his paternal grandmother, Pauline Rink of Redding; a niece and many aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at Christ Episcopal Church, 1 Gregory Blvd., East Norwalk. The Rev. David Feyer will officiate.
Burial will be private.

Leo H. Berman,
a Westport resident, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 85.
He died of a heart attack, according to his family.
Born Jan. 8, 1916, in New York City, he was the son of the late Harry and Yetta Berman.
Mr. Berman received a bachelor's degree from Long Island University and a master's degree in psychology and social work from Columbia University.
After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he earned a medical degree in 1949 from University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
He completed his training in psychoanalysis at the New York Medical College in 1956. He was a psychiatrist for the past 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Karg of Westport; a daughter, Heather Lee Cantino of Athens, Ohio; a son, Daniel Paul Berman of Harvard, Mass.; and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Wertheimer.
Calling hours will be noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at the home of Dorothy Karg, 19 Otter Trail, Westport.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 at Unitarian Church of Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road, Westport.
Mr. Berman's body has been donated to the Yale School of Medicine for educational purposes.

Marion F. Ayles,
a lifelong Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at home. She was 56.
She died of brain cancer, according to her family.
Born March 4, 1944, in Stamford, she was the daughter of Susanne Telesco Cuiffo of Stamford and the late Mario Cuiffo.
Mrs. Ayles was a licensed practical nurse. She worked for St. Joseph Medical Center for 25 years before retiring in 1998. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.
As a member of Parish Nurses, she performed health services for church members.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, William J. Ayles Sr. of Stamford; a daughter, Susan Marie Liscio of Monroe; a son, William J. Ayles Jr. of Stamford; and three grandchildren.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 21, 2001 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, and travel to Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 1200 Shippan Ave., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m.
Burial will be private.

Paul A. Tatarko,
a Stamford resident, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 70.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born Sept. 12, 1930, in Redstone Township, Pa., he was a son of the late Paul A. and Elizabeth Kakos Tatarko.
Mr. Tatarko served in the U.S. Marine Corps veteran during the Korean War. He was a data and telecommunications manager with Marine Midland Bank before his retirement. He was a Stamford resident since 1977.
He is survived by his wife, Margrith Troller Tatarko of Stamford; and three sisters, Marie Irish of Voorhees, N.J., Ann Chiofolo of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Elizabeth Banko of Glen Burnie, Md.
He was predeceased by a brother, John Taylor; and a sister, Sophie Barloski.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 at Church of the Holy Spirit, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the state veterans Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown.

Curtis Ducksworth Sr., a longtime Stamford resident, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at home. He was 75.

Karen J. Fraser, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. She was 53.
Jean M. Heaney
Jean M. Heaney, a Stamford resident, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001 at home. She was 96.
George Skigen
George Skigen, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, Fla. He was 82.
Charlotte W. Peebles,
a resident of Madison and former Stamford resident, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was 97.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born June 14, 1904, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Mary Webb Peebles.
Ms. Peebles was a retired teacher with the Stamford Public Schools.
She is survived by a nephew, Robert P. Peeblesof St. Helena, Calif.
She was predeceased by a brother, Robert P. Peebles.
Services were private.
