George N. Brown
HAMDEN - George N. Brown, 68, of Willow Street, died March 4, 1999. He was the husband of Susan Dimond Block Brown. Mr. Brown was employed as an addiction therapist for the West Haven Veterans Hospital for 14 years until his retirement in 1998.
Mr. Brown was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict and served with the U.S. Weather Service. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Naomi Ruth Wallace of Ansonia; a daughter, Deborah L. Brown of Hamden; a son, George N. Brown Jr. of East Hartford; and two stepsons, Eric J. Block of Meriden and Ivan W. Block of Coral Gables, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents, George A. and Lucretia Vaughn Brown.
Mr. Brown was a member of Friends of "Bill W." and the Wallingford Cancer Support Group. A prayer service will be held Sunday, March 7, 1999, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be Monday, March 8, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia, at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT. 06405.

Bruna Carlson
WALLINGFORD - Bruna Carlson, 94, formerly of Columbia Street, Wallingford, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Skyview Center. She was the wife of the late Einar S. Carlson.
Mrs. Carlson was born in Mirandola, Province of Modena, Italy, April 19, 1904, daughter of the late Giacinto and Anna Garutti Rinaldi, and had been a Wallingford resident since 1911. She had been employed at the former Wallace Silversmiths for many years until her retirement, and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford.
She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and John Painter Sr., of Fort Myers, Fla., Shirley and Ronald J. Beckman of Port Orange, Fla., and Dorothy and Clifford Peterson of Madison; her sister, Rose (Mrs. Ames W.) Malaguti of Wallingford; her two brothers and sister-in-law, Louis Rinaldi of Wallingford and Carl and Jean Rinaldi of Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Kathleen Perham, Bruce Cassidy, Wendy Thomson, John Painter Jr., Ronald Beckman, Robert Beckman, and Kim Horchner; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may attend her funeral service Monday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford. The Rev. Dean O. Warburton, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, will officiate. Interment will be in In Memoriam Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

Louis DeLizio
HAMDEN - Louis DeLizio, of Hamden, died March 5, 1999. He was the husband of Tashia Cantarella DeLizio; father of Mrs. Daniel (Judith) DeGennaro of Wallingford, Mrs. Gary (Linda) Pedersen of Northford and Pamela DeLizio of Hamden; brother of Maragret DeDomenic and John DeLizio, both of Hamden, and Josephine Vitolo of Florida; also survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Peter H. Torello & Sons Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, and at St. Ann's Church at 11 a.m. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday, March 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT.

Joseph J. DePaolo
SOUTHINGTON-Joseph J. DePaolo, of 54 Delahunty Drive, passed away on March 4, 1999, at New Britain General Hospital after being very ill for several months. Mr. DePaolo was born in Southington on May 13, 1929, to Margaret and Valentine DePaolo, formerly of Highwood Avenue, and was a lifelong resident of Southington.
He was a student at Southington public grade schools and graduated from Cheshire Academy in 1946. He attended Seton Hall University and was in the U.S. Naval Reserve. In 1950 he married the former Dolores DeRenzis of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and they raised five children, Paul DePaolo of Lakeville, Pamela J. DePaolo of Southington, Val E. DePaolo of Plantsville, Joseph DePaolo Jr. of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Perry DePaolo of Southington. Mr. DePaolo was the owner and president of DePaolo Furniture Inc., of Southington, for many years and operated and managed the 74-year-old landmark family business started by his parents in 1926. He worked in the business in many capacities, including sales, refinishing and management with his parents and his brother, William V. DePaolo.
Mr. DePaolo was an accomplished accordionist, and performed with his musical quartet The Joey De Quartet for many years, as well as with his daughter, Pamela, performing together professionally for many public functions around the state.
Mr. DePaolo was a former member of the Southington Zoning Board of Appeals and was a director of the former Southington Saving and Loan Association. He leaves his wife, Dolores Alice; and their five children; a brother, William V. DePaolo (Town Council); and five grandchildren, Michelle, Joey, Michael, Andrew and Alicia DePaolo.
The funeral will be held Monday, March 8, at 9:45 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Thomas Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, March 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Joseph J. DePaolo Music Scholarship, Southington Savings Bank, Main Street, Southington, CT 06489.

Ruth E. Dingwell
MERIDEN - Ruth E. Dingwell, 76, of 43 Peacock Drive, wife of Burton Dingwell, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in New Britain, June 22, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Armstrong and Esther Cote. She was a 1940 graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford and moved to Meriden in late 1940. In 1944, she married Thomas M. Fitzgibbons Jr., who was killed in action in World War II. She married Burton Dingwell on March 4, 1950, and they enjoyed a happy 49-year marriage.
Between the years 1940 and 1944, Mrs. Dingwell worked at the Napier and New Departure Companies. She served for many years as the organist of the South Trinity United Methodist Church in South Meriden. She also was a member of the American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery program.
Besides her husband, Burton, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas M. and Daryl Fitzgibbons III of Meriden; and three granddaughters, Meghen Fitzgibbons, Melissa Gregory and Erica Gregory, all of Meriden. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kristen Dingwell, and her grandson, Thomas M. Fitzgibbons IV.
The funeral will be held on Monday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church, 145 Main St., South Meriden. The Rev. Patrick R. Cameron, the Rev. Richard Haverly and the Rev. Alden Barnes will officiate. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave, Meriden, on Sunday, March 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. If desired, contributions in Mrs. Dingwell's memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church, 145 Main St., South Meriden, CT 06451.

Alan P. Mickiewicz
WALLINGFORD-Alan P. Mickiewicz, 50, beloved son of Alphonse E. and Frances VanDerstam Mickiewicz, of Grieb Road, Wallingford, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in Port Charlotte, Fla., of an apparent heart attack.
Born in Meriden, Feb. 10, 1949, he was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School. He had been a self-employed carpenter and building contractor in Wallingford and in Florida for many years. He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the medical corps in Korea in a demilitarized zone from 1968 to 1969, and was a member of AMVETS of Windsor.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Deborah; a brother, Thomas C. Mickiewicz of Wallingford, his maternal grandmother, Mildred (Mrs. Cornelius) VanDerstam of Wallingford; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Sunday, March 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 8, at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Most Holy Trinity Preservation Project, 68 N. Colony St., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Josephine Mongillo
SOUTHINGTON - Josephine Mongillo, 73, of 71 Wilbur St., Plantsville section, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Valerio P. Mongillo.
Born Aug. 25, 1925, in Pitsin, Pa., daughter of the late Louis and Irene (Barbato) DeVergilio. She was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church. She is survived by a son, Valerio Mongillo Jr., and his wife, Debbie, of Essex, Vt., and a daughter, Maria Fournier and her husband, George, of Southington; two sisters, Mary DeVergilio and Helen VanDermark, both of Florida; two grandsons, Jonathan Zalaski of Plainville and Scott Bristol of Ohio; a great-grandson, Gabriel Dubey; a great-granddaughter, Magan Bristol; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service was held on March 5, 1999. Those who wish may make memorial donations to Connecticut Hospice of Branford, 61 Burban St., Branford, CT 06405-4096. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., has charge of arrangements.

Stella H. Toman
SOUTHINGTON-Stella H. (Stasia) Toman, 75, of 78 Faye Lane, Southington, entered into rest Thursday, March 4, 1999, at her home. She was the beloved wife of 53 years to Walter A. Toman.
She was born May 14, 1923, in Meriden, and was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Augustyn) Stefanowicz. Mrs. Toman resided in Meriden for most of her life before moving to Southington five years ago. She was educated in Meriden schools and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. She retired from New Departure-Hyatt Bearings Division of General Motors and also owned and operated with her husband the Acme Press Printing Co., in Meriden. She was a member of the Southington Calendar House.
Besides her husband she leaves four sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur and Donna of Newton, Mass., Joseph and Lynn of Greensboro, N.C., Michael and Sandy of Greenwich, and Matthew and Pam of the Plantsville section of Southington; nine grandchildren, Shane, Michael, Jeffrey, Kyle, Emily, Margaret, Ellen and Anne Toman, and Molly-Gus Simmons; a sister, Genevieve Kusha of Meriden; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Ann Stefanowicz of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother John Stefanowicz.
Her funeral will be held Monday, March 8, at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday, March 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stanislaus School, 82 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450, or the Franciscan Home Care, 267 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

George A. Biggins
CHESHIRE - George A. Biggins, 60, formerly of 1030 Waterbury Road, died Monday at the Cheshire Convalescent Center. Mr. Biggins was born in Waterbury on Nov. 25, 1938, a son of the late John L. and Edna M. (Miller) Biggins and lived in Cheshire for most of his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Biggins retired in 1997 as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Cheshire. He also volunteered at the Cheshire Reformatory and at area halfway houses. He was also a member of the VFW.
He leaves two sons, John Biggins of Cheshire and William Biggins of Waterbury; a daughter, Lisa Grize of Scituate, Mass.; four sisters, Pat Barbieri and Kathleen Biggins both of Cheshire, Elaine Moquin of Southington and Alice Taber of Bristol; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will leave on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St., and proceed to St. Bridget's Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours, Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2040 E. Main St., Waterbury, CT 06705.

Madeline R. Donzello
WALLINGFORD - Madeline Rose Donzello, 95, of 1131 Old Colony Road, past away peacefully with her family at her side Saturday, May 8, 1999, at the Meriden Care and Rehabilitation Center in Meriden. She was born in the home she lived in her entire life on Nov. 23, 1903, first-born daughter of the late Peter and Rosaline Fonderosa Donzello. She worked on the family farm every day for 90 years, starting out picking berries at the age of five and graduating to field work and caring for her father's draft horses by the time she was 12. Forced to drop out of Yalesville School at the age of 14 because she had missed so many days working, she finished her education later in life and managed Donzello's Market from 1948 to 1986, holding the office of corporate president from 1972 to 1997. A self taught excellent cook and baker, she specialized in pizza and stuffed breads. She loved flowers, animals, growing her own produce and waiting on her many thousands of customers at Donzello's Market over the last 50 plus years.
Love of her family and her country were the cornerstones of her life and she was intolerant of anyone who showed disrespect to either, but extremely generous to all who conducted themselves with courtesy. People with her work ethic and force of will are not replaceable.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Marcantonio and Alice Donzello DeBaise and her brothers, William Donzello and Joseph Donzello Sr. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, from the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, and at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. David Borino. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden.
