Mary Hannan

May 16, 1921 - May 06, 2008

Mary (Jaquith) Hannan, age 86, formerly of Bethel, wife of the late John George Hannan, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 6th with her daughter and granddaughter by her side at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care in Danbury. She was born in Danbury on May 16, 1921, daughter of the late John and Ellen (McCarthy) Jaquith. She was a graduate of St. Peter School and Danbury High School, Class of 1939.

She and her husband, John, were married in St. Peter Church in 1946 and were longtime residents of Bethel. Mary held many secretarial jobs with business such as Danbury Hat Factory, Barden, The US Farm Bureau, and most recent with Pembroke Elementary School from 1970 until her retirement in 1986.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Joan Buszta and her husband, Ronald of New Fairfield; her granddaughter, Carly Smolick and her husband, Aaron of Fairfield; her grandson Jeff Buszta of Washington, DC; her brother Clem Jaquith of New Fairfield; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Schultz, and her brothers, Joseph Jaquith and John Jaquith, Jr.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9th at 10:00am at St. Peter Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday morning between 8:30 and 9:30am.

Donations Information

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Pastoral Care Department at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care, or to Hospice Care of Connecticut VNA.

William Henry Morrison Sr.

November 02, 1930 - May 06, 2008

William Henry Morrison, Sr., age 77, longtime resident of Danbury, devoted husband of Rose Marie (Bosko) Morrison, died at Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, May 6th. He was born in Redding on November 2, 1930, son of the late Caroline (Morrison) Booth.

Bill was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in Germany with the United States Army. He was a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s Association, and the American Legion in Richford, Vermont.

Bill worked for the city for most of his life, retiring from the Danbury Airport Ground Crew in 1992. His community affiliations included many years of service on the Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Department and the Crosby Manor Association. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, participating in city softball, bowling, and horseshoe leagues. He also had a passion for professional football and NASCAR racing.

In addition to his loving wife of 10 years, Rose, he will be sadly missed by his son, William Morrison, Jr and his wife, Marguerite; his two daughters, Norma Fearn and Carol Stavola; his four grandchildren, Kimberly Do, Candice, Patrick and Mary Stavola; and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Frederick Booth, Sr.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Saturday, May 10th at 2:00pm.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday between the hours of 12:00 and 2:00pm.

John J. Scalzo

May 01, 1925 - May 03, 2008

John J. Scalzo, 83, of Bates Place, Danbury, devoted husband of Dorothy T. (Zilske) Scalzo, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 3rd. He was born in Catanzaro, Italy on May 1, 1925, son of the late Fernando and Angelina (Lupo) Scalzo.

Mr. Scalzo was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy He was a past Commander of the Catholic War Veterans, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a member of the War Memorial Duck Pin Bowling League.

He worked as a television repairman for Sears & Roebuck retiring after 38 years.

Mr. Scalzo was an avid golfer who proudly shot “an ace” during his membership with the Richter Park Golf Club. He was a parishioner of St. Peter Church and volunteered as an usher for more than 35 years.

In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy, he will be sadly missed by his son, Fred Scalzo and his wife, Debbie of Colorado; his two daughters, Angelina Arconti of Danbury, and Theresa Stenabaugh and her husband, Don of New Milford; his nine grandchildren, Kristine Scalzo McWilliams, Michael Scalzo, Sarah Scalzo Dalley, Matthew and Daniel Arconti, Madison, Nathaniel Aubrey and Owen Stenabaugh; his three great grandchildren, Ian, Finn and Abby. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his two brothers, Fred and Richard Scalzo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 7th at 9:30am at St. Peter Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Tuesday evening between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00pm.

Tina Ann Lavoie

February 09, 1952 - May 04, 2008

Tina (Lombardi) Lavoie, age 56, of Brookfield, devoted wife of Richard Lavoie, Sr. died peacefully at her home in the presence of her loving family and friends, on Sunday, May 4th. She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on February 9, 1952, daughter of June (Lee) Lombardi of Poughkeepsie, NY and the late Salvatore G. Lombardi.

Tina worked as a Lieutenant EMT-I for the Brookfield Fire Department for 12 years. She also was a CPR instructor and Brookfield Police Department Matron. She enjoyed spending time with her family, ATVing, RVing, gardening and reading.

Tina was a loving and caring person who gave generously of herself to everyone. She had a fun-loving nature and shared in many good times with her family and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband of 25 years, Richard, and her mother, June, she will be sadly missed by her daughter, Natalie Lavoie-Costa of Brookfield; her grandson, Anthony Salvatore Costa of Brookfield; her brothers, Salvatore Lombardi of Highland, NY and Anthony Lombardi of Poughkeepsie, NY; and her stepchildren, Nancy, Karen, Elaine, Richard, Jr., and Phillip. She is also survived by several close friends, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Poughkeepsie, NY, on Thursday, May 8th at 10:30am. Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Wednesday, May 7th between the hours of 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00pm.

Christopher D. Angelucci

October 27, 1976 - June 05, 2008

Christopher D. Angelucci, of New Fairfield, cherished son of Dorothy Angelucci of New Fairfield, and the late Henry P. Martinez, died on Friday, June 5th. He was born in the Bronx on October 27, 1976.

In addition to his mother, he will be sadly missed by his fiancé, Christine Early and her son, Ryan; his two sisters, Cynthia Metz and her husband, Donald, Elissa Hagwood and her husband, Stanley; his nieces and nephews, Joshua and Emily Metz, and Julianna Hagwood.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 11th at 10:00am at St. Edward the Confessor Church. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.

Ret. Maj. Rick Fortmiller, Brookfield PD

July 12, 1949 - June 23, 2008

Ret. Major Ralph “Rick” G. Fortmiller, Brookfield PD, age 58, of Hudson, Fla., formerly of the Brookfield. devoted husband of Linda (Gary) Fortmiller, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Monday, June 23rd. He was born in New Brunswick, NJ on July 12, 1949, son of the late Ralph G. Jr., and Gladys (Schumacher) Fortmiller. He graduated from Northeastern University with a BS in Criminal Justice, and later served in the United States Marine Corp.

He was Assistant Chief of the Brookfield Police Department, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Police Benevolent Association.

Rick enjoyed golf, softball, flower gardening, and was an avid UConn girl’s basketball fan. During his time in Florida, he worked for Hernando Pasco Hospice, scheduling nurse appointments.

In addition to his beloved wife of 36 years, Linda, he will be sadly missed by his son, Keith Fortmiller of Stamford; his daughter, Kristen Bonacci and her husband, Mike of Brookfield; his two grandchildren, Olivia and Michaela Bonacci. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Davagian and her husband, George of Bluffton, South Carolina, Donna Gumb and her husband, Bill of Patterson, NY; his father-in-law, John Gary of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, on Friday, June 27th at 10:00am. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery will follow.

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Thursday between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00pm.

Eugene Buck Hughes

February 03, 1941 - July 28, 2008

Eugene “Buck” Hughes, age 67, of Belmont Circle, Danbury, died at Yale New Haven Hospital on Monday, July 28th. He was born in Milton, NC on February 3, 1941, son of the late Euslade and Alvira (Davis) Hughes.

Buck worked for the Local Union 675. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, talking politics and loved the Boston Red Sox.

He will be sadly missed by his companion, Mary Council of Danbury; his son, Verdell Council of Danbury; his brothers, Montine Hughes of NC and Marshall Hughes of Danbury; his sisters, Lucy Garland of NC and Nellie Howard of VA; four children, Charlotte McCrea and her husband, Michael, Debbie Coates and her husband, Robert, Sean Council and his wife, Kim, and Sonnie Council and his wife, Marie. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Funeral Information

Funeral Services will be held at New Hope Church on Monday, August 4th at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at New Hope Church on Monday morning between 10:00 and 11:00am.

Hayley Marie Sunday

Baby Hayley Marie Sunday, daughter of April Nolan and Shawn Sunday, died at Yale New Haven Hospital on February 28th. Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home on Friday, March 10th at 10:00am.

Naomi C. Tomaino

April 11, 1949 - December 31, 2008

Naomi C. Tomaino, age 59, of Abbott Ave, Danbury, cherished wife of Victor Tomaino, died at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, December 31st. She was born in Danbury on April 11, 1949, daughter of the late Burton and Leoma (Smith) Leach. She grew up in New Fairfield and was a graduate of Danbury High School. She worked in food service for Fast Freddies in Danbury and previously with the Red Colony Diner in Brookfield and Secondi Restaurant in Danbury.

Naomi was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren will fondly remember the numerous sporting events they attended together. She taught her family the most important lesson of love through her compassionate care of her husband following his stroke.

In addition to Victor, her husband of 41 years, she will be sadly missed by her three sons, Victor M. Tomaino, Sr. of Danbury, Anthony Tomaino and his wife, Jennifer of Brookfield, and Peter Tomaino and his wife, Ingrid of New Milford; her six grandchildren, Lance Corp. Victor M. Tomaino, Jr., who is currently serving in Iraq, Michael, Matthew, Victoria, Holly and Mario Tomaino. She is also survived by her brothers, Arthur Leach and his wife, Elaine of Danbury, Burton Leach and his wife, Margaret of Newtown; her two sisters, Monica Allen and her husband, Mike of New Fairfield, and Roberta Leach of Waterbury; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Tuesday, January 6th at 11:00am. Cremation will take place at the direction of the family.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening between the hours of 5:00 – 8:00pm.

Janice Woodcock

March 08, 1925 - February 19, 2009

Janice (Crowe) Woodcock, age 83, of Sandy Hook, wife of the late Kenneth L. Woodcock, died at Ashlar of Newtown on Thursday, February 19th. She was born in Dunkirk, NY on March 8, 1925, daughter of the late Frank and Alice (McGrath) Crowe.

Janice worked alongside her husband, at Woodcock Nursery in Ridgefield, and also worked at Shelter Rock School for numerous years. She was a loving and devoted mother who enjoyed volunteering as Den Mother for her son’s Cub Scout Troop. She also loved to camp.

She will be sadly missed by her sons, Mark K. Woodcock and his wife, Wendy of Shelton, and Scott J. Woodcock and his wife, Maureen of New Milford; her grandchildren, Stephanie, and Summer Woodcock, Scott J. Woodcock, Jr., and Mandy Woodcock, Daniel and Michael DiCapua. She is also survived by her brother, Elvin Crowe of Silver Creek, NY; and her sister, Evie Carlson of Mayville, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 26th at 10:00am at St. Peter Church in Danbury. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery.
