Harold Landow,

a lifelong Stamford resident, died Sunday, June 25, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. He was 77.

He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.

Born Feb. 13, 1923, in Stamford, he was a son of the late Isaac and Lena Knoph Landow.

Mr. Landow was a retired mechanical designer.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Stamford Public Schools and J.M. Wright Technical School. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, the Halloween Yacht Club and the Independent Lodge in Stamford.

Mr. Landow is survived by his wife, Thelma Schachat Landow of Stamford; two daughters, Deborah Cohen of Milford and Susan Landow Smith of Shelton; a son, Ronald Landow of Shelton; a brother, Sam Landow of Stamford; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Sylvia Klein; and a brother, Dr. Hyman Landow.

Funeral services will be private.

Burial will be in Independent Lodge Cemetery, Darien.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492 or the American Diabetes Foundation, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06460.

Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, is handling arrangements.

Johanne Iuell-Pettersen,

a resident of Greenwich since 1974 and formerly of Stamford and Brooklyn, N.Y., died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at Greenwich Hospital. She was 64.

She died after a lengthy illness, according to her family.

Born Nov. 29, 1935, in Arendal, Norway, she was a daughter of the late Nils and Kari Christensen Nilsen.

Before retiring as a customer service manager, Mrs. Iuell-Pettersen had been employed for 20 years by Olin Corp. in Stamford.

She received a business degree in Arendal.

She is survived by her husband, Helle Iuell; a daughter, Kari Ryan of Darien; four sisters, Astrid Pedersen of Camden, S.C., Karen Pedersen of Bergen, Norway, Marit Meyer of Notooden, Norway, and Hanne Heimer of Charlottesville, Va.; a brother, Nils Johannes Nilsen of Arendal; and two grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Ulf Pettersen.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service is scheduled for noon Thursday, June 29, in the chapel of St. John's Lutheran Church, 884 Newfield Ave., Stamford, with the Rev. Bjarne Haugland officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut, 920 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06107.

Sarah Green,

a resident of Sarasota, Fla., died Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She was 77.

She died of complications following surgery, according to her family.

Born April 17, 1923, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and May Ignatoff.

She had lived in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and West Nyack, N.Y., and Banbury, England.

She received a bachelor's degree in political science from Hunter College and a master's degree in education from State University of New York at New Paltz.

Mrs. Green was a teacher in the Nanuet Public Schools in Nanuet, N.Y., and was a teacher's union representative. She was a member of the New City Jewish Center in New City, N.Y., and of Temple Beth Sholom and its sisterhood in Sarasota.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Julius Green of Sarasota; a daughter, Jessica C. Green of Rochester, N.Y.; a son, Benjamin H. Green of Stamford; and two grandchildren.

A service was held Friday, June 23, 2000 at Temple Beth Sholom in Sarasota.

Burial and a funeral service were held Sunday, June 25, 2000 at Sharon Gardens in Valhalla, N.Y.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Benjamin Green, 61 Fara Drive, Stamford, through Friday morning, June 30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dollars for Scholars Fund, Temple Beth Sholom, 1050 Tuttle Ave., Sarasota, FL 34237.

Larry "Kelly" Franklin of Newberry,

S.C., a former Stamford resident, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 in Newberry. He was 35.

He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the police.

Born June 24, 1964, in Stamford, he was the son of Lawrence L.M. Franklin of Athens, Ga., and Mamie Monroe Franklin of Bridgeport.

Mr. Franklin was a 1982 graduate of Rippowam High School. In 1989, he moved to Newberry, where he worked for the Packaging Corp. of America.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two daughters, Doris V. Plummer-Franklin and Layla K. Franklin, both of Newberry; a sister, Aleta "Kandy" Franklin Williams of Bridgeport; a grandmother, Alberta Franklin of Deltona, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Franklin was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Theresa Monroe, and paternal grandfather, Luther Franklin.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 1, 2000 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Albertha Gaines

Albertha Nelson Gaines of Stamford, a former longtime Greenwich resident, died Sunday, June 25, 2000 at Greenwich Hospital. She was 60.

Harold Landow

Harold Landow, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Sunday, June 25, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. He was 77.

Tony W. Penn

Tony Wayne Penn, a Norwalk resident, died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 40.

Frances M. Scatamacchia

Frances M. Scatamacchia of Oakdale, a former longtime Stamford resident, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at home. She was 88.

Etta J. Topping

Etta Jane Bromfield Topping, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Friday, June 23, 2000 at Tandet Center for Continuing Care in Stamford. She was 97.

Giusto "Joe" Macari,

a Greenwich resident, died Sunday, July 9, 2000 at Richard Rosenthal Hospice Center in Stamford. He was 79.

He died of cancer, according to his family.

Born Aug. 12, 1920, in Settefrate, Italy, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Quintilia Capocci Macari.

Mr. Macari worked at Yale & Towne and Branson Smithkline Beecham before retiring. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Settefratese Social Club and Knights of Columbus, St. Augustine Council.

He is survived by a companion, Carmella Pasquarelli of Greenwich; and a sister, Antoinette Buzzeo of Stamford.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 11, 2000 at Casinelli-Vitti Funeral Home, 9 Pulaski St., Stamford.

A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, and proceed to Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schulyer Ave., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.

Burial will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Richard Rosenthal Hospice Center, 34 Shelburne Road, Stamford, CT 06902.
