Arthur A. Yiotos

Arthur A. Yiotos, age 71, of Easton, beloved son of the late Andrew and Olga Deftos Yiotos, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Born in Bridgeport, he was a lifelong Bridgeport resident before moving to Easton six years ago. He was the proprietor of Arthur's Famous Pizza located in the South End of Bridgeport for more than 50 years which was founded by his late parents. A paratrooper in the Army, he served during peacetime. A civic minded person, he was caring and generous to the neighborhood community and had also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Bridgeport. Survivors include his sister and brother, Ann Gallo and her husband, Thomas of Florida; and Gregory Yiotos of Bridgeport; two nephews, Edward A. Gallo of Southport and Jeffery T. Gallo of New York City. He was predeceased by a brother, Alexander Yiotos.

Funeral Information

Friends are invited to go "Directly" to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joel McEachen officiating the "Rite of Burial". Entombment will be in Mt. Grove Pilgrimage Mausoleum, Bridgeport. In loving memory of Arthur and the Yiotos Family.In abiding with the wishes of Art Calling hours have been omitted.

Eleftheria Kanatos

September 21, 1917 - July 10, 2009

Eleftheria (Libby) Kanatos, age 92, of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Vasilios (William) Kanatos, died peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2009 with her loving friends and caregivers, the Bargas family and Sophia and her son, Nektarios Kanakis, by her side. Born in Worcester, Mass., she was resident of Trumbull for more than 31 years. She was a retired crane operator, for Heppenstall Corp. where she worked for more than 20 years. After her retirement, she became a very active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and and the Philoptochos Society. She would always be seen with her dear friend, Mrs. Lemonia Bargas, cooking for the Greek Festivals. A kind and gentle lady she will be sadly missed by Dolly Sanchez, and all who admired her kindness and sincerity.

Friends are invited to go "Directly" to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Monday at 11 a.m. for the Liturgy of Burial followed by Internment at Lakeview Cemetery. Alexander Beloblosky

January 22, 1920 - July 22, 2009

Alexander Beloblosky, age 89, of Stratford, beloved husband of over 60 years to Josephine Luty Beloblosky, died peacefully July 22, 2009. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Roman and Alexandra Beloblosky. A life long resident of Stratford, he was a retired Tool and Die maker for 40 years for Avco Lycoming Division of Textron and a member of their Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Retirees of Avco Lycoming and had also been an active member of Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church participating in many of their events. Survivors in addition to his wife, Josephine of 6911 Main Street, Stratford, 06614; a sister, Sophie Zujewski of West Willington, CT; special cousins, Lydia Tymoszuk and Nina Beloblosky; as well as other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport (on the Trumbull Line) with Father Vadim Pismenny officiating. Louis Arbelo Sr.

November 21, 1945 - July 08, 2009

Louis Felipe Arbelo Sr., age 63 of Bridgeport, beloved son of the late Josefina Arbelo Abrams, died peacefully surrounded by his devoted family on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Born in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, he was a resident of Bridgeport for more than 55 years and was a retired supervisor at Ross & Roberts, where he worked for more than 35 years and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. A graduate of Central High School, Class of 1966, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. Survivors include his devoted and loving children, Cynthia Burgos and husband, Hector, Louis Arbelo Jr. and wife, Natalie, William Arbelo, Zoraida Arbelo-Beaver and husband, Dave, Daniel Arbelo and Ethan Arbelo; sisters, Lucy Perez and husband, Angel and Norma Colbert; brothers, Arthur Abrams and wife, Maria and Edwin Abrams; his devoted companion, Olga Siegert; and several grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Damaso Arbelo and Armando Abrams and a sister, Carmen Abrams.

Derek A. Smith, 26, entered into eternal life July 27, 2009. Born in Bridgeport, November 25, 1982, Derek is the son of Marie A. Nechols and Derek L. Smith. Judith A. Kinsella, age 70 of Trumbull, beloved wife of 34 years to the late James Kinsella Sr., died Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Mary Panchok Auger. A resident of Trumbull for more than 43 years, she was a retired manager for SNET Co., where she worked for more than 25 years and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. A loving and gentle lady whose life was centered upon her children and grandchildren, she will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched. Survivors include her devoted children, James M. Kinsella Jr. of Milford, Robert Kinsella of Miami Beach, Fla., Kevin Kinsella of Stratford, Brian Kinsella and wife, Cherry of Stratford and Stacey Giordano and husband, Carl of Trumbull; a sister, Theresa McMahon and husband, William of Stratford; a brother, Harvey Auger and wife, Abbey of Charlotte, N.C; a special and caring sister-in-law, Anita McCain of Trumbull; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Sophia Vlantes - November 24, 1916 - October 22, 2010
Sophia A. Melligon Vlantes, age 93, of Trumbull, beloved wife of 72 years, to Alexander N. Vlantes, died peacefully on her anniversary Friday, October 22, 2010 with her devoted family at her side. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Constantine and Georgia Baglas Melligon. A lifelong area resident she was a retired secretary for the Fairfield School system where she worked for more than 28 years. A compassionate and giving individual Sophie was a volunteer for Bridgeport Hospital for more than 10 years an active member in the Greek community, she was past president of the Orthodox Council of Women and the Philoptochos Society. A well versed and an avid reader, she enjoyed traveling. A very talented and artistic person, one could see her handy work in her ceramics, embroidering, crocheting and other forms of art especially painting. Her gentle touch and soft spokeness will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Survivors in addition to her husband, Alexander, include her two daughters, Christine Rosengarten of Scarsdale, NY and Constance Gorzelany and her husband, Stan of Fairfield; four granddaughters, Dana Gorzelany-Mostak, Jennifer Gorzelany, Karen and Rachel Rosengarten; and her loving and faithful care giver, Lana Vasyluk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John Lecouras - November 04, 2010
John Lecouras, age 88 of Bridgeport, beloved son of the late Andrew and Fotini Michaels Lecouras, died peacefully on Thursday, November 4, 2010 in Carolton Convalescent Home, Fairfield surrounded by his close friends. Born in Bridgeport, he was a lifelong resident. He retired from Bullards Co., where he worked for 41 years and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport. John was predeceased by his three sisters, Ellen and Cecelia Lecouras and Georgia Parowski; brothers, George, Louis, Nicholas, Charles and Michael; and nephew, Charles Lecouras Jr., previously of Mystic. He is survived by his cherished friend, Theresa Koziar.

Stella Chapar - October 24, 1931 - October 01, 2010
Stella Nastu Chapar of Stratford, passed away on October 1, 2010 at St. Vincent's Medical Center following a brave struggle. She was born in Bridgeport on October 24, 1931 to John and Mary Memu Nastu. She was a lifelong member of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church. She graduated Bassick High School in 1949. She had a marvelous singing voice, often joined in perfect harmony with her family on stage and off. She worked as a teacher's aide at Wooster Jr. High School in Stratford for many years which was something that she treasured. She was very athletic and had a great sense of humor. She loved animals and enjoyed gardening. She could dance like a professional and remembered well the glamour of the old Pleasure Beach Ballroom and the Ritz Ballroom where she danced to the Big Bands. Like so many of her generation, she lived through the Great Depression, watched immigrant parents achieve success in their new land, sent loved ones to war and waited for them to come home, raised a family, saw men first walk on the moon, worked hard without complaint and learned to use the Internet to send messages to her friends and family. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Albert Chapar Sr.; her sons, Thomas and Albert Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Nadine Kirma Chapar; grandchildren, Sophia, Natalia and Helena Chapar; her loyal sisters, Frieda and Catherine Nastu; sisters-in-law, Mary Moran and husband, Steve and Nassa Sam and husband, William; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Nastu; her remarkable brothers, Aurely (Ray), Peter and Thomas; her sisters-in-law, Sofia Cipu Nastu and Rose Nastu; her German Shepherd dog, Katrina, who gave her much joy.

Georgios B. Papageorgiou, age 75 of Middletown, beloved husband of Eleni Daoutis Papageorgiou, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. Born in Elatohori, Pipias, Greece, he is the son of the late Vasilios and Angelina Blechos. Papa Georgiou. He resided in the Bridgeport, Monroe area for more than 40 years before moving to Middletown eight years ago. He was a retired chef at Athenian Diner II in Middletown. Survivors in addition to this wife, Eleni, include one son, Vasilios and his wife, Paraskevi Papageorgiou of Middletown; two daughters, Angeliki and husband, Efthimios Konstandinidis of Bridgeport and Bessie and her husband, Farid Radkermani of Middletown; six grandchildren, Eleni, Melina, Sun God Apolon, Makedonusa, Alexia and Giorgio; a sister, Sofia Keparisi of Greece; and several nieces and nephews. Carlos (Quique) E. Ortiz Sr., age 66 of Bridgeport, beloved husband of 42 years to Ana De Jesus Ortiz, died peacefully on October 25, 2010 with his family by his side. Born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late, Eduardo and Benilda Chevere Ortiz. A resident of Bridgeport for more than 45 years. He was a retired employee of Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., where he worked for more than 37 years. A member of the "Huestes del Caribe," he was also a member of the Curcilio of St. Anthony's Church and a member of the St. Peters. An avid Yankee fan,he enjoyed all the talk show programs during his retirement. A religious individual who put God and his family first, he will be sadly missed. Survivors in addition to his wife, Ana; a son, Carlos E. Ortiz Jr. and his wife, Lynn of Stratford; a daughter, Nancy Ortiz of Bridgeport; four grandchildren, Carlos E. Cabble, Giovanni Trowel, Jeremy Ortiz Jr. and Nancy S. Georgia Traiforos

Georgia Kapetanakis Traiforos

Georgia Kapetanakis Traiforos, age 95 of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Antonios Traiforos, died peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2010 with her devoted family by her side. Mrs. Traiforos was born in Eastman, Ga., on September 5, 1915, daughter of the late Panagiota and Georgios Kapetanakis. After the death of her father, the family relocated to Greece in 1921. She attended schools in Greece and later married her husband, Antonios, in 1939 and had two children. Due to the civil strife Greece experienced at that time, the family immigrated to the USA in 1947 and settled in Manchester, N.H. In 1956, the family moved to Bridgeport. She was employed by Connecticut Bandage Mills and later retired from Remington Rand in 1970. She was a loving mother, grandmother (yiayia) and great-grandmother (great yiayia) and very proud of her family and Greek heritage. She traveled extensively with her children and grandchildren to Greece and many other places. Because of her devout faith and love of God, her dream to visit the Holy Land and walk in the footsteps of Jesus was fulfilled not only once, but twice, something that she always cherished and spoke of. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Holy Trinity Senior Citizens. She was predeceased by her husband, Antonios
in 1970; brothers Evangelos and Nicholas Kapetanakis; brother-in-law, Teodoros Traiforos; and sisters-in-law, Yiannoula Tzovanis and Despina Kapetanakis. Survivors include her son, George and wife, Lourdes Traiforos of the Philippines; a daughter, Pauline Traiforos Halkias and husband, Peter of Fairfield; grandchildren, Anthony and wife, Anne Traiforos of Marlboro, Mass., Nicholas and wife, Lisa Traiforos of Marlboro, Mass., Michael Traiforos of Marlboro, Mass. Sophia Halkias Hainsworth and husband, Theodore of Fairfield, Dean Halkias of Bridgeport and Gina Halkias Seugling and husband, William of New York City; great-grandchildren, Catherine, Stefan, Zoe, and Jason and Alyssa Traiforos of Marlboro, Mass., Kalista and Peter Hainsworth of Fairfield and Colton Seugling of New York City; a sister-in-law, Maria Kapetanakis; and many cousins, nieces and nephews in New York, Canada and Greece.

Ann Ulatowski - July 20, 1914 - October 18, 2010
Ann M. (Burns) Ulatowski, age 96, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of 59 years to the late John J. Ulatowski Sr., died peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2010 with her devoted family at her side. Born in Bridgeport she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Bessie McQueeney Burns. A lifelong area resident, she was a former member of the Gaelic American Club. A kind and compassionate individual who was always ready, willing and available to lend a hand when called upon. A religious person her life was centered upon her God, family and the community. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her son, John J. Ulatowski Jr. of Bridgeport; a daughter, Sister Maureen Ulatowski S.S.N.D. ( School Sisters of Notre Dame) of Wilton; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers,, James and John Burns; sister, Catherine Hansen. A special note of deep gratitude and appreciation to the staff of St. Joseph Manor in particular the 5th floor and the clergy for their pastoral care of Ann's religious needs.

Sophia Aptalides - May 24, 1930 - October 20, 2010
Sophia Aptalides age 80 of Fairfield died peacefully on Wednesday October 20, 2010 with her devoted daughter Theresa Fronzi at her side. Funeral services took place on Friday October 22, 2010 in the Holy Trinty Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave Bridgeport. Interment was held at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk, CT.

James Makraus - April 20, 1921 - October 28, 2010
James Makraus, age 89 of Stratford, died peacefully in his home on October 28, 2010 with his wife, Sara (Peggy), his beloved wife of almost 51 years by his side. He is survived by a son, James H. Makraus of Stratford and his stepchildren, Dale Johnston and Amanda Squires. He also has two daughters, Elizabeth Makraus and Patricia Nucifora and husband, Robert, all of Stratford. In addition, he has three granddaughters, Kimberly Nucifora of New Haven, Heather Nucifora of Seattle, Wash. and Amanda Nucifora of Stratford; his loving sister, Katherine Lenihan; his brother, Charles, both of Stratford; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceaced by brothers, Gus and George. James retired after many years of employment from the Town of Stratford. In his younger years, he was a wonderful dancer, a coin collector and an avid gardener. He also enjoyed fishing and was a great cook. In his later years, he loved spending quiet time at home with his family who will miss him very much. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice nurse, Evelyn, and the wonderful home health aides who were so caring and compassionate during a difficult time. Robert Tiberio Jr. - November 08, 1959 - October 11, 2010
Robert J. Tiberio Jr. (Bobby) age 50 of Bridgeport, passed away on October 11, 2010. Bobby is survived by his loving parents, Robert Sr. and Mary Ann (Kozlowski) Tiberio of Fort Pierce, Fla.; brother, Stephen and his wife, Beth of Shelton; nieces, Alyssa, Lauren; and nephew, Stephen Jr. He also leaves several close aunts, uncles and cousins. Bobby was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Trumbull and Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. He served in the United States Marine Corps and the Army National Guard. He was employed by the City of Bridgeport Board of Education as a steam fitter and was a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local Union 777. Bobby had a kind and generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was known for his ability to make others laugh and enjoyed a good practical joke. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially Vincent Ingrassia, his lifelong friend.

Kazimiera Lipowicz - December 18, 1923 - October 12, 2010
Kazimiera Wieckowska Lipowicz, age 86 of Monroe, beloved wife of 66 years to Stanislaw Lipowicz, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Born in Czestochowa, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Stanislaw and Zofia Blawat Wieckowski. Having immigrated to the United States in 1969, she was a resident of the Monroe and Bridgeport areas for more than 41 years. A religious lady, she was a faithful parishioner of St. Michael's Church. A kind and gentle woman whose life was centered on her beloved family, she will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched. Survivors in addition to her devoted husband are a son, Marek Lipowicz and wife, Lucyna of Monroe; daughter, Bozena Jurkiewicz and husband, Marek of Boulder, Colo.; five grandchildren, Robert, Greg, Mark, Rafal and Martha; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

September 26, 1943 - July 17, 2010

Pauline J. Janik, age 66 of Bridgeport, daughter of the late Stanley and Marriane Krol Janik, passed away July 17, 2010 at Hewitt Rehab Center of Shelton. Born in Bridgeport, she retired from St. Michael's Rectory of Bridgeport after 31 years of service. She was predeceased by her twin brother, Paul. She is survived by her friends, Louise Tenney, Hazel Dubicki, Kathy and Jerry Brown, Chris and Gary Rega of Shelton; cousins, Bernice Piorek, Greg Piorek, Karen, Paul, Pearl and Thomas Marley of North Carolina.

Henry A. Radomski, age 86 of Fairfield, beloved husband of 65 years to Jeanne Bianchi Radomski, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Adolf and Wadyslawa Bryosfski Radomski. a graduate of Bassick High School, Class of 1941, he faithfully served his country during World War II, having served in the Navy as an aviation mechanic. Following World War II, Henry was employed by the Bullard Co. of Fairfield as a machinist where he worked for more than 42 years and was a member of its Quarter Century Club. In addition to his devoted wife, Jeanne, he is survived by his four sons and daughter, Gene and his wife, Fran of Easton and their daughters, Amy and Amber, Dan and his wife, Rosemary of Bedford, Texas and their children, Lauren and Brendon, Dave and his wife, Kathy of Fairfield and their children, Kelly and David, Henry of Naugatuck and his sons, Andrew and Peter, his daughter, Melanie Stewart of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Rd., Fairfield, followed by full military honors at St. Thomas Cemetery, Fairfield, Calling hours are on Saturday morning after 9:30 a.m. in The Commerce Hill Radozycki Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport.

Louis Gatto

August 28, 1915 - March 17, 2011

Louis Gatto, age 95 of Bridgeport, died peacefully on Thursday, March 17, 2011. Born in Bridgeport in Bridgeport, he was a lifelong resident of World War II and faithfully served his country in the Army. Charles Poulos

April 09, 1917 - January 12, 2010

Charles J. Poulos, age 92 of Bridgeport, entered into eternal life on January 12, 2010. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Nettie (Giatas) of 63 years; his devoted and loving daughter, Andrea of Bridgeport; and his cherished grand-daughters, Stefanie of Bridgeport, and Kristin and her husband, Stan of Trumbull; and his precious great-granddaughter, Hailey. Charlie was born in Bridgeport on April 9, 1917 to the late George and Andromachi (Reppas) Poulos. He grew up in Sunnyside, N.Y. before moving back to Bridgeport in his earlier years. Charlie served in the military for four years with the Company C 727th Engineer Railroad Operation battalion. He was awarded numerous medals and ribbons for his outstanding service. His love for the railroad shone through when he was employed by the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad as a brakeman and conductor in his earlier years. After the service, Charlie went on to work for the United Illuminating Company for 34 years as a supervisor in the control room. In his spare time, he worked for the Connecticut Limousine for 15 years. Throughout his life, Charles was very dedicated to his church and community. Charlie had a deep passion for watches, trains and politics. However, his pride and joy was his family and the unconditional love and bond he shared with his wife, daughter and granddaughters will live on. His legacy will be carried on through "his girls." His memory will be eternal.

Friends are invited to go DIRECTLY to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Friday at 10 a.m. for the Rite of Burial, followed by burial with full military honors at Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport, with Trisagion Services at 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Christine Pappas

November 25, 1947 - July 16, 2010

Christine R. (Sorge) Pappas, age 62, of Watertown, formerly of Fairfield, beloved wife of 31 years to Evangelos Pappas, entered into the presence of Christ on Friday, July 16, 2010. Born in Bridgeport, she lived most of her life in Fairfield and had been educated threw the Fairfield School system. A former designer for Hansen's Florist of Fairfield for many years, she was a gifted and talented artist. A devout and religious individual she was a born again christian. During her youth, she was an active member of Black Rock Congregational Church.. A kind, caring and giving person Christine will be fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched. Survivors in addition to her husband, Evangelos, include a son, Keith Cream and his wife, Christine of Torrington; two brothers, Ralph Sorge of Westport, and David Sorge of California; a sister, Lynn Walsh of Ohio; mother-in-law, Katena Pappas of Bridgeport; sister-in-law, Frances Pappas of New York; brothers-in-law and their wives, James and Georgette Pappas of Trumbull, George and Carol Pappas of Stratford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, L. Ralph and Gwendolyn Wing Sorge; and a brother, Douglas Sorge.

Friends are invited to go "Directly" to Black Rock Congregational Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Care Pastor Gaylord Lemke officiating with a church viewing after 9 a.m. until time of services. Committal immediately following in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport.

Sophia Vlantes

November 24, 1916 - October 22, 2010

Sophia A. Melligon Vlantes, age 93, of Trumbull, beloved wife of 72 years, to Alexander N. Vlantes, died peacefully on her anniversary Friday, October 22, 2010 with her devoted family at her side. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Constantine and Georgia Baglas Melligon. A lifelong area resident she was a retired secretary for the Fairfield School system where she worked for more than 28 years. A compassionate and giving individual Sophie was a volunteer for Bridgeport Hospital for more than 10 years an active member in the Greek community, she was past president of the Orthodox Council of Women and the Philoptochos Society. A well versed and an avid reader, she enjoyed traveling. A very talented and artistic person, one could see her handy work in her ceramics, embroidering, crocheting and other forms of art especially painting. Her gentle touch and soft spokeness will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Survivors in addition to her husband, Alexander, include her two daughters, Christine Rosengarten of Scarsdale, NY and Constance Gorzelany and her husband, Stan of Fairfield; four granddaughters, Dana Gorzelany-Mostak, Jennifer Gorzelany, Karen and Rachel Rosengarten; and her loving and faithful care giver, Lana Vasyluk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to go "Directly" to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday at 2 p.m. for the Rite of Burial followed by entombment at Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport with Trisagion Services Monday evening in the funeral home.
