Howard G. Morris, Jr.

Howard G. Morris, Jr., 88, of Stadley Rough Road, Danbury, husband of the late Hazel (Houghtaling) Morris, died on Friday, November 28th, at the Danbury Hospital.
He was born in Danbury on August 22, 1915, son of the late Howard G., Sr. and Lillie (Miller) Morris. He graduated from the State Trade School of Danbury.
Mr. Morris was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate, 3rd class, on the USS LaSalle. He was a recipient of the Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation two stars, Asiatic Pacific five stars.
He worked as a quality control inspector for Bard-Parker Company for 35 years and retired in 1977 from Becton and Dickinson.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Danbury. He was a member of the VFW of Danbury, Post 149. He was an avid golfer.
Mr. Morris will be sadly missed by his daughters: Sandra and her husband Robert Tarsi, of Danbury; Pamela and her husband John Potter, of Ohio; three grandchildren: Suzanne Osuch, of Danbury; Beth Tarsi, of Danbury; and Sean Potter, of Ohio; and one great grandson, Jordan Osuch, of Danbury. He is also survived by two brothers: Joseph Morris, of Southbury; and Walter Morris, of Naugatuck; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, George Morris.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13th at 11 a.m., at the First Congregational Church of Danbury.
There are no calling hours.

Kathleen R. Leitton

Kathleen R. Leitton, age 80 of Lewes, Delaware, formerly of Westview Drive in Bethel, departed this life on Friday, November 28, 2003, at her residence in Lewes.
She was born on Sunday, August 26, 1923, in Waterbury, Vermont, daughter of the late John Joseph Layden and Catherine Gorman Layden.
Mrs. Leitton had formerly worked for 15 years as a lab technician for Viking Wire in Danbury.
Mrs. Leitton was a nursery Sunday School teacher for 38 years at the First Assembly of God Church in Danbury, prior to moving to Delaware.
She had also volunteered for many years in Lewes with Nursing Home Ministries.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert David Leitton, Sr., of Lewes, Del.; a son, Rev. Robert Leitton, of Dover, Del.; a daughter, Kathleen Kessler, of Quarryville, Pa.; a sister, Dolores Burdett, of Winter Park, Fla.; a brother, Daniel Leitton, of Miami, Fla.; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at Parsell Funeral Home and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, on Tuesday, 11 a.m., where friends may call after 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Delaware Hospice, Division, 600 North Dupont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
Joan M. Warner

Joan M. Warner, age 71, of Ocala, Florida, died Wednesday, November 12, 2003, in West Marion Community Hospital, Ocala, Florida.
Joan was born in White Plains, N.Y., May 11, 1932, a daughter of the late Charles and Maude (Ackerman) Wright.
She was a former longtime resident of Derby and was a supervisor for the Farrell Corporation until her retirement.
She is survived by three daughters: Linda Warner, of Sandy Hook; Gail Conway, of Roxbury; and Hilary Warner, of Bethlehem; a brother, Roger Wright, of East Lyme; a sister, Muriel Anderson, of Hawthorne, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.
A Memorial service, will be held on Thursday, December 4, at 2:30 p.m., in the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West St., Newtown.
Interment will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery.

Gilbert Lombardo

Gilbert Lombardo is finally at peace, departing this life into the grace of our Lord, on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at home in Hillsborough, California.
He is survived by his devoted wife Ida, son Maurice Lombardo and his wife Joan, of Tiburon, Calif.; a daughter, Francesca Lombardo and her husband Frank Pasacreta, of Hillsborough, grandchildren: Regina, Damien, Jackson and Julien, also of Hillsborough and beloved caregivers, Emily Lagapa and Roger Reyes. He is also survived by his beloved brother, Rev. Monsignor Maurizio Lombardo, of Rome, Italy.
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge and thank Susan Bell, Diane Gillen and Shana Wilson, of Sutter V.N.A. Hospice of San Mateo.
A funeral service was celebrated on Wednesday, November 26th, at 10 a.m., at St. Bartholomew’s Church, corner of Alameda de las Pulgas and Crystal Springs Rd., in San Mateo.
Entombment was at the Italian Cemetery
in Colma, Calif.

James E. Gay Jr.

James E. Gay Jr., age 68, of Bethel, died Monday, October 6, 2003 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Charlene A. (Muhlfeld) Gay of Bethel.
He was born June 19, 1935 in Ridgefield, son of James E. Gay Sr. Of Norwalk and the late Ruthamae (Finney) Gay.
He was employed as an inspector for Nash Engineering of Trumbull, retiring in 1989 after numerous years of service.
He was a lifetime area resident and resided in Bethel for the past 37 years.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by a son, James E. Gay III and his wife Karen of Danbury; three daughters, Jill Sousa and her husband John of Danbury, Joy Steinmiller and her husband Fred of Bethel and Bonnie Northrop and her husband Mark of Hobart, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Devon and Samantha.
Cremation will take place at Charter Oak Crematory, Oxford, at the direction of the family.
There are no calling hours. The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Claire Barondess

Claire Barondess, age 84, died October 2, 2003 in San Diego, Calif. She was the wife of the late Gerson Barondess.
She was the devoted mother of Anne Kisver and her husband Larry of New Milford; and two sons, Philip of
Sherwood, Oregon and Ronnie and his wife Erin of San Diego.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Cooper and his wife Bette of Tucson, Ariz.; and a sister, Arleen Resnick of Arlington, Va.
Private services will be held in San Diego.
Patricia Margaret Downey

Patricia Margaret (Oths) Downey, 64, of The Villages, Florida, formerly of Danbury, wife of Robert J. Downey, died in Florida on October 4, 2003.
Patricia was born in White Plains, NY on March 26, 1939, daughter of the late Joseph and Martha (Walker) Oths.
Patricia grew up and attended schools in White Plains.
She moved to Danbury in 1973 and had worked at the Danbury Credit Union for many years before retiring with her husband to Florida in 1990.
In addition to her husband, Bob, she is survived by four sons, Kevin Downey and Paul Downey of Danbury, John Downey of Redding and Thomas Downey of Wurtsboro, N.Y.; two daughters, Elizabeth Downey of Alpharetta, Ga. and Kathleen Gaylord of Waco, Texas ; a brother, Joseph Oths of Baton Rouge, La.; four sisters, Marie Zaranski of The Villages, Fla., Martha Hannon, Katherine Whalen and Gloria Gustavason, all of Calabash, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Sean and Alyssa Downey of Danbury and Erik and Tara Downey of Wurtsboro, N.Y.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church. Burial will follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Ossining, N.Y.

Wilhelmina “Candy” Henderson

Wilhelmina “Candy” Henderson, age 67, of Danbury, died on Sunday afternoon, at the Laurel Ridge Health Care Center, Ridgefield. She was the wife of Charles R. Henderson.
Mrs. Henderson was born March 18, 1936 in Jamaica, N.Y., the daughter of the late Willie and Annie (Moore) Jones. A Danbury resident since 1943, she was a graduate of the Danbury High School, Class of 1954. Mrs. Henderson was employed by the Amphenol Corporation, retiring in 2001, after 35 years of service. She was a member of both the Deciples of Christ Ministries, Danbury, and Faith Center Ministries, Meriden, playing an active role in outreach programs at both churches.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Henderson is survived by three sons: Curtis E. Jones, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Raymond D. Henderson and William Henderson, both of Waterbury; four daughters: Vinaldo A. Green and Debra Sheppard, both of Danbury; Dolores Smith, of Waterbury; and Joyce J. Merritt, of Newark, Del.; one brother: William Jones, of Danbury; two sisters: Mary Brown, of Alexandria, Va.; and Mabel Burwell, of Cambria Heights, N.Y.; eighteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Henderson was predeceased by her son, Charles Farrell Henderson.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday, at the Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church, Danbury, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Joseph Norfleet, Pastor of Faith Center Ministries, Meriden, officiating Burial will be in the Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
The family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, on Wednesday, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Martha A. Schunk

Martha Jean (Asmar) Schunk, 83, formerly of 85 Garfield Avenue, Danbury, died on Sunday evening, October 5, 2003, at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care, Danbury.
Mrs. Schunk was a daughter of John and Edith (Ferris) Asmar, and the last of nine children; Joseph, Rose, Abdon, Charlie, Pete, Tony, Alice and Louis.
Mrs. Schunk was beloved by her husband Russell, children; Karen and Darleen and their spouses, John Chambrovich and Scott Senete. She was a loving Tita to Lorien and John Russell Chambrovich and Tory Senete.
A lifelong member of St. Peter’s Church Danbury, she graduated from St. Peter School. Living up to her name, Martha was a true servant, giving of herself throughout her life. She left school to help raise her siblings and retired from Connor Engineering to care for her husband. She sacrificed without complaint and accepted her trials in silence, always retaining her faith and her sense of humor.
To the many friends and caregivers that the Lord placed in her path, she was truly grateful. Her last words were, “Thank you, Lord”.
Mom loved gardens and in her honor and memory, donations to the Outdoor Building Fund at Pope John Paul, II Center for Health Care, 33 Lincoln Avenue, would be greatly appreciated.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 a.m., in St. Peter Church, Danbury.
Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury on Wednesday, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Alexander J. Tomczuk

Alexander J. Tomczuk, 80, of Danbury, devoted husband of Charlotte (Schullery) Tomczuk, died on Monday October 6th, in the presence of his loved ones, at Danbury Hospital.
He was a lifetime member of the Danbury community, born on February 6, 1923, son of the late John and Veronica (Jackiewicz) Tomczuk. He attended Sacred Heart School and Danbury High School.
Mr. Tomczuk was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. He was a recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and Distinguished Unit Badge.
He was a professional contractor, owning and operating Atom Tile Co., in Danbury, for forty years. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, in Danbury, where he was an Altar Server as a boy. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Yankees and the Giants, as well as local football, baseball and bowling.
Besides his cherished wife Charlotte, of 53 years, he is survived by a daughter, Jill Tomczuk-Dowdall and her husband, Edward Dowdall, of Granite Springs, N.Y.; a brother, Joseph Tomczuk and his wife, Kay, of State College, Pa.; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all, for his talent, his warmth, and legendary good nature. He was predeceased by sisters, Kazi Smith and Helen Sienkiewicz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Thursday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Cottage Street, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday, between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m., at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury.

Barbara Jean Totolis

Barbara Jean Totolis (Richards), of Mason’s Island, died Sunday, October 5, at the Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island.
She was born in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of the late William and Mildred Richards, and older sister to brothers William, Thomas, and Edward.
A graduate of Springfield Hospital School of Nursing, Barbara received her Masters in Nursing at Columbia University, N.Y.C., and, upon completion, taught Medical Nursing at Hunter College in Manhattan.
After moving to Ridgefield, where she resided for 26 years, Barbara continued a life-time of medical service as President and V.P. of Ridgefield’s District Nursing Association. She was also Auxiliary President and a Director of Danbury Hospital, Head Nurse of Wilton Meadows HCC, and Assistant Director of Nursing, at Bethel Health Care Center, while in Western Connecticut.
Her years in Mystic saw her as Staff Development Educator at Mariner Health, at Pendleton in Mystic, and, more recently, Infection Control and Staff Development Nurse, at Westerly Hospital.
Barbara was the loving wife of Christos John Totolis and devoted mother of Cynthia Jean and John Thomas. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Henry Peter and Jack Christos Morgan, of Hong Kong; seven nieces and four nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the St. Sophia. Hellenic Greek Orthodox Church, 200 Hempstead St., New London, Conn.
A private burial will be held in the Hillcrest Park Cemetery, in Springfield, Mass.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.
There will be an additional calling hour on Thursday, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the church, prior to the service.
