Rose Bruno Benigno
(October 14, 1917 - April 16, 2012)
Rose A. Bruno Benigno, age 94, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Leonard E. Benigno entered into eternal rest on Monday April 16, 2012 in Bridgeport Hospital, with her loving and caring son Leonard R. Benigno by her side. Mrs. Benigno was born in Bridgeport on October 14, 1917 to the late Salvatore and Assunta (Mazzielli) Bruno, and lived there until moving to Stratford in 1948. Rose worked for American Chain and Cable, Remington Arms, Singer Co., and Skydels Department Store until she retired in 1982 to care for her ailing husband. Survivors include her beloved son Leonard R. Benigno of Shelton, sister Carmella Grosso of Trumbull, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and parents she was pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law Linda DeLorenzo Benigno, 2 sisters Mariann Nardella, and Margaret Bonitatibus, 3 brothers Daniel, Matthew, and Pasquale Bruno. Funeral services will take place on Friday April 20th at 8:30 am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 9 a.m. in St. James Church Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make a donation in memory of Rose to a charity of choice.
Anna Jankura Kosh
(February 18, 1914 - April 16, 2012)
Anna Jankura Kosh, age 98, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late George Kosh, passed away on Monday April 16, 2012 in St. Joseph’s Manor, Trumbull. Mrs. Kosh, a retired assembler for Harvey Hubbell Company, was born in Bridgeport to the late John and Anna (Kasper) Jankura, and has been a life long area resident. She was a member of the Seniors of St. John’s Church. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children Ronald Kosh and his wife Tina of Milford, and Paula Kranyak and her husband Alexander of Stratford, 2 cherished granddaughters Amy Kosh, and Shannon Lombardo and her husband Jim all of New York, 2 great-grandchildren Evan and Nico, a sister Dorothy Frizell of West Haven, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and parents she was pre-deceased by her brothers John, Stephen, George, Michael and Peter Jankura. Anna’s family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph’s Manor for their kind and loving care. Funeral services will take place on Friday April 20th at 11 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 11:30 a.m. in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, Bridgeport for a Requiem Funeral Service. William E. Lastomirsky
(May 28, 1923 - November 19, 2012)
William E. Lastomirsky, age 89, of Stratford, the widower of Helen Knopick Lastomirsky, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012 in his home. Mr. Lastomirsky, a retired Frame Man for S.N.E.T., was born in Bridgeport to the late George and Mary (Pjura) Lastomirsky, and has been a life long area resident. He was a 1941 Graduate of Harding High School and also was a graduate of Connecticut School of Electronics. William was a former employee of Singer Manufacturing, and a founding member of St. Mark’s Church in Stratford. Survivors include his devoted sons William M. Lastomirsky and his wife Nancy Guindon of Clinton and Dr. David Lastomirsky and his wife Dr. Faye Ahmadian of Shelton, 4 grandchildren Garrett and Douglas Guindon, and Kaveh and Dr. Azadeh Ahmadian, 3 great-grandchildren Madelyn, Sophia, and Kennedy Guindon, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 24th at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place and at 10 a.m. in St. Mark’s Church Stratford, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Kathleen Ellen Kepchar Kuhl
(February 23, 1950 - November 21, 2012)
Kathleen Ellen (Kepchar) Kuhl, age 62, of Easton, beloved wife of Robert Kuhl, passed away suddenly, on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Kathy, an 8th Grade Math Teacher at Jockey Hollow Middle School, in Monroe, was born in Bridgeport to Ellen Lindner Kepchar and the late John Kepchar, and has been a life long area resident. She was a graduate of Harding High School Class of 1967, and Central Connecticut State College Class of 1971, and received her Masters Degree from the University of Bridgeport in 1974. Kathy was a teacher for the Monroe Board of Education for over 40 years, and proudly served as Vice President of the Monroe Education Association. She was an avid Yankee fan who loved to shop with her family, especially on “Black Friday”. She also loved to relax poolside in her back yard, take cruises and visit Disney World. She was an animal lover who adored her dog Paco and cats Bessie and Daisy. Kathy was a Supermom, who loved her two daughters. She will be forever missed by her husband Bob, her daughter Amanda Kuhl and fiancé John Sarrubbo of Stamford, her daughter Alena Kuhl of Easton, her mother Ellen Kepchar of Monroe, her sister Nancy Zukowski, brother-in-law Robert Zukowski, and their children Abigail and Aaron, of Shelton, and Ron and Josie Kuhl and Diane Bardinelli, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Requiem Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 28th at 10 a.m. in the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist 364 Mill Hill Avenue Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Stephen Chernak
(March 24, 1924 - November 21, 2012)

Stephen Chernak, age 88, of Stratford, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Today a Great Man has died. Devoted husband of 66 years to his wife Helen, proud father of Greg Chernak and his wife Gail, of Oxford and David Chernak of Stratford, and honored grandfather to Nicholas, Daniel, and Zachary, Chernak, and great-grandfather of Halen Bolin-Chernak, and pre-deceased infant grandson Jonathan Chernak. Devoted family man, hardworking, compassionate, and understanding. Born in Bridgeport, to the late Michael and Tessie (Danyluk) Chernak. He began his life as part of a family of 4 sisters, and 2 brothers on a small family farm in Stratford, where life was happy but harsh. After a while the family bought a small house in Stratford where he remained until lifes end. A proud veteran of WW II Navy, he served aboard the Helena, the St. Louis, and finally under Lt. Commander S.C. O’Rourke on the Donald W. Wolfe. In that twist of fate he missed his boarding on the Helena, and went on the next ship, the USS St. Louis (The Lucky Lou). During the Battle of Leyte Gulf he saw the Helena take 2 torpedoes and go down. He mourned the loss of his shipmates for the remainder of his life. He then fought in the Battle of Kula Gulf, before being transferred to the D.W. Wolf, where he served out the remainder of the war. His final rank was Coxswain Mate 2nd Class. Returning home he married
Helen, on June 29, 1946, and worked a brief time as a furnace operator, at Lock Steel Co. in Bridgeport. Gifted mechanically and fascinated by aviation he started working at Sikorsky Aircraft, where he spoke often with Igor Sikorsky, as he walked through the plant. He continued his service to his country as part of the trusted team that services the President’s helicopter fleet. His service started with President Eisenhower and finished with President George Bush I. Except for the last year of his life he repaired his own cars and maintained his home to perfection. His life was claimed by a weakening heart, but his spirit was never diminished. We would like to thank Dr. Moskowitz, and the staff of Cardiac Specialists for the devotion and care in the final year of his life. No matter how long we live we always depart to soon. Your thoughts and prayers are a source of encouragement and for those we are thankful. In addition to his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren Stephen is also survived by a brother John Chernak of Florida, and a sister Sophie Pollock of Shelton, a special nephew Paul Welytok Jr and several other nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Anne O’Meara, Mary Welytok, and Nellie Estabrook. Funeral services will take place on Monday, November 26th at 8:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 9 a.m. in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, Bridgeport for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John’s Cemetery Monroe. Friends may greet his family on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Panachida at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to St. John’s Church in Steve’s memory.
Edward S. Yeomans

YEOMANS, EDWARD S. age 80, of Stratford, beloved husband of Mary Ann Yeomans, entered into eternal rest peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 25, 2012 in his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Newport, Rhode Island on January 31, 1932 to the late Louis and Edith Yeomans. Mr. Yeomans a Sergeant in the U.S. Army served in Korea during the Korean War. After his return from Korea Mr.Yeomans resumed his employment in the tree division of the public works department of the Town of Stratford and remained employed by the town for 40 years. “You climbed to the top of the tree” then Town Manager Ron Owens read, as he presented a plaque to Public Works Director Edward Yeomans at his retirement party in 1991 honoring him for his dedicated work to the Town of Stratford for 40 years. The plaque tells the story of Yeomans employment, which began in 1951 as a grounds men and climber for the tree division of the public works department, his appointment as a foreman of that department in 1965 to Assistant Superintendent of parks in 1967 and Superintendent of Parks in 1970. In 1987 Town Manager appointed Yeomans as the Director of Public Works. When the Public Works Association was formed, Yeomans served as president for 7 years and was elected president of the Supervisors Association for an 11-year term. Yeomans has had the distinction of having the Short Beach Complex in Stratford named in his honor and during his tenure he served under 7 Town Managers.” said Owens in a proclamation written in his honor. Also during his 40 years with the Town of Stratford, he was recognized for his meritorious service by the Town Council on 3 separate occasions and was awarded the key to the Town of Stratford in 1976. Yeomans also received commendations for his dedication to the community from the following civic organizations: Holy Name Cardinals (1969, 1970, 1975 and 1978) Stratford Police Benevolent Association in (1970) Stratford Youth Conservation Club (1972) Stratford PAL (1973) Stratford Jaycees 1974) North Stratford Little League (1981) Council of Senior Clubs (1982) Stratford Waterfront Authority (1987) and the Boy Scouts of America (1988). He also received recognition every year from Stratford’s Public Schools for his Arbor Day programs in the form of numerous letters from school children. An avid sports enthusiast Yeomans coached Stratford Little League for several years and was a dedicated Boston Red Sox and Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed playing golf. A brother Louis Yeomans predeceases him. In addition to his wife he is survived by a brother Charles Yeomans of Ferguson, North Carolina and his children Cynthia Rizzardi (Frank) of Shelton, Timothy Yeomans (Kelley) of Chantilly Virginia, Richard Yeomans (Karen) of Stratford, Christine DeFilippo (Joseph) of Shelton and by his 10 loving grandchildren Gregory Rizzardi (Kara) of Trumbull, Bryan Rizzardi (fiancée Caitlin Mackie) of Boston, Massachusetts, Justin Rizzardi of Boston, Massachusetts, Tyler, Erik and Jason Yeomans of Chantilly, Virginia, Nicole Paniccia and her husband Maurizio, of Shelton, Alyssa Mysliwiec and her husband Michael of Stratford, Olivia and Santino DeFilippo of Shelton and a great grand daughter Ava Rose Rizzardi of Trumbull. Also several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the loving and dedicated staff of the VNS of Connecticut, especially nurses, Collette Sengupta and Carol Klubek and therapist, Tom Feliconio and the gentle and caring Home Aid Elsada Beckford. They also wish to express a sincere thank you to family friend Joseph Mezick for his caring and support. Thomas C. McDonald
(March 16, 1951 - November 25, 2012)
Thomas Charles McDonald, 61, of Huntington, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 25th, with his beloved daughter, Vanessa, and his former wife,Jeanmarie Conlon, by his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Milford on March 16, 1951, he was the son of the late James Charles McDonald Jr. and the former Edna Justine Hedin, who survives her son. Tom, a professional photographer, was a regular contributor to The New York Times and various other publications and did considerable work for Trinity Episcopal Church in New York City. For many years he was a staff photographer for Perkin Elmer in Norwalk. Photography was his passion, and he will always be remembered with a camera by his side. He was an artist who also enjoyed music and writing poetry. He will be remembered as a loving father to his daughter, Vanessa, and his son, Jason, who passed away from a brain tumor in 1989. He is also survived by three brothers, James E. McDonald and David M. McDonald, both of Miami, Fla., and William P. McDonald of New York City; and 19 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Robert. J. McDonald and a niece, Erica Joy Hanick. He leaves behind a legacy of photographic work for all to enjoy and will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 29th at 9 a.m. in St. James Church 2070 Main Street Stratford. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Trumbull. Victoria Leigh Soto
(November 4, 1985 - December 14, 2012)
Victoria “Vicki” Leigh Soto, age 27, of Stratford, cherished daughter of Carlos and Donna (Fagan) Soto, and beloved sister of Jillian, Carlee and Carlos Matthew Soto, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012 in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. Born In Bridgeport, she was a lifelong Stratford resident. Vicki was a graduate of Stratford High School Class of 2003, and Eastern Connecticut State University, where she graduated with high honors, earning degrees in both Education and History. She was currently attending Southern Connecticut State University, to complete her Master’s Degree. Vicki was in her fifth year of teaching at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Teaching was her passion, following in the footsteps of her beloved Aunt Debbie, and her dream since she was three years old. Molding young minds was her priority, but being the “fun” teacher, was what she was all about. The children she taught at Sandy Hook Elementary were a huge part of her life. Vicki was equally passionate about her family, which was the most important part of her life, especially her siblings, sisters, Jillian whom she loved unconditionally, and Carlee in whom she instilled the importance of higher education and her brother Carlos Matthew who looked up to his big sister with pride. She was not only a role model to her sisters and brother, but to everyone she met. She was an amazing young woman, who died a hero. Some of her favorite things include: Flamingo’s, of which you can never have too many, (whenever we saw one, we thought of her), the New York Yankees #11, and, most importantly, Christmas, as she was the only one allowed to pick out the tree and put up the lights. Her friends were also such a big part of her life, especially her best friend and confidant Rachel Schiavone, whom she loved dearly. Vicki also leaves behind her loving dog Roxie, who waited for her to come home everyday, and is still waiting, lost without her. Her extended family was also a huge part of her life. In addition to her beloved parents and siblings, Vicki is survived by her grandparents, “Pop Pop”, Donald Fagan of Bridgeport, and Jose and Marta Soto of Cleveland, TN, her Aunt and Godmother Debbie Cronk, and her husband, Uncle Robbie Cronk and their children, Heather Rose, Brianne Elizabeth and Wesley Fagan Cronk, her Uncle and Godfather Dean Fagan and his wife Denise and their children, Alex Gerard and her favorite buddy Zachary Jan Fagan. SOFACRO forever! She is also survived by her Uncle Don Fagan and his wife Linda and their children, Don and wife Jennifer, Christopher and Fiancé Sarah, their children Natalie, Christopher and Doug Fagan. She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother Janice Biebel Fagan. Vicki was truly an amazing daughter, sister, cousin, teacher and friend and died protecting her “kids.” We couldn’t be prouder of our HERO. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 10AM DIRECTLY in Lordship Community Church 190 Prospect Drive Stratford, CT 06615. Interment will be in Union Cemetery Stratford. Rita M. Gerwien Hill, age 96, of Stratford, the widow of John Hill, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 in Maefair Health Center, Trumbull. Mrs. Hill, a homemaker, was born in Bridgeport, to the late George and Catherine (O’Connor) Gerwien, and has been a life long area resident. Survivors include her beloved daughters Sharon Guerra and her husband Dann of Stratford, and Judith Mullany and her husband David of Shelton, 4 cherished grandchildren Tracey and her Husband Dr. Thomas Roballey, David Mullany and his wife Nancy, Daniel Guerra and his wife Tina, and Stephen Mullany and his wife Jane, “Grandma Beach” also leaves her 9 beloved great-grandchildren; Marissa, Kayla, Jillian, David, Lauren, Chelsea, Hailey, Jessica, and Stephen, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and parents she was pre-deceased by her brothers George, Edwin, and Walter Gerwien. Rita L. Giampaolo Olayos, age 78, of Shelton, the widow of James R. “Mindy” Olayos, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 in Gardner Heights Health Center. Mrs. Olayos, a retired Sales Clerk for Stuart’s Department Store in Trumbull, was born in Bridgeport to the late Nicholas and Susan (Nicholas) Giampaolo. She was a graduate of Central High School, and was a resident of Trumbull for many years. ”Umma” as she was affectionately called by her grandsons, enjoyed cooking for her entire family, but especially for them. The Olayos Family, would like to thank the staff of Gardner Heights HCC, Cedar Unit, for their kind and loving care. Survivors include her devoted children, James N. Olayos and his wife Kim of Shelton, Sueanne Lisi and her husband George of Stratford, and Amy DeMaio and her husband Michael of East Haven, 7 cherished grandsons; Jimmy, Casey, Brett, and Shea Olayos, and George III, Nicholas and Jon Lisi, a brother John Giampaolo and his wife Shirley, a sister Susan Senes and her husband Raymond, and a brother-in-law Mickey Hare, all of Monroe, a sister-in-law Johanna Orosz and her husband Andrew of Fairfield, and several nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
