IAZZETTA, THOMAS
Thomas Iazzetta, of Twin Brook Rd. Hamden, husband of the late Anna Consiglio Iazzetta, passed away Sunday Dec. 16 in St. Raphael Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Iazzetta was born in Afragola, Italy a son of the late Vincent and Concetta Orzo Iazzetta and resided in Hamden since 1952. He was employed by the Town of Hamden for 20 years before retirement, and enjoyed his garden and fishing. Mr. Iazzetta is survived by three daughters and two son-in-laws; Concetta and David Russell of Hamden, Josephine and Ennio DelGreco of Wallingford, and Andrea Ciaccio of Hamden, three sisters; Josephine Romano of No. Branford, Anna Caiazza and Carmelina Perone, both of Italy, a brother Anthony Iazzetta of Hamden, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion of 10 years, Louise Durso of No. Haven. He was predeceased by a sister Francis Risigno, and a brother Joseph Iazzeta. WALL, DONALD H.
In this city of New Haven, Donald H. (Don) Wall, 88, of Woodward Avenue, died December 13, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving children. He was the son of the late Richard S. and Mary C. Wall and was predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth J. (Faherty) Wall to whom he was married
for 52 years and by grandson Chris. He was the cherished father of Donald E. Wall and wife Val of Orange, Kathleen J. Moore and husband Charles of Marlborough, MA, Maureen E. Angell and husband Bill of Bloomington, IL, Michael J. Wall of New Haven, and Barbara Arlene Eiben and husband Karl of Guilford. He was the loving grandfather of Daniel P. Wall, Jonathan M. Wall, Cheri M. Moore, Ryan M. Wall and wife Vanessa, Meghan E. Wall, Stephen C. Moore, Michael P. Eiben, Patrick S. Eiben, and Kevin C. Eiben. A man of great integrity and humor, he will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He was born in New London on Christmas Day, 1918. A member of the first graduating class of Hamden High School in 1935, he began his career by working his way up to the position of chief accounting clerk at Sperry and Barnes in New Haven where he worked for over 28 years. A "notch baby, " he proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in World War II, faithfully served as a volunteer at the Hospital of St. Raphaels GI Lab for 11 years, and was a parishioner of St. Bernadettes Parish for over 50 years. In 1992, he retired at the age of 72 from Leonard Concrete Pipe in Hamden where he kept the books for 17 years. Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Avenue, East Haven, Tuesday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Don at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Church, 385 Townsend Avenue, New Haven. Family and friends may call Monday, December 17 from 4-8 pm. MORLEY, JAYNE ANN CARROLL
Jayne Anne Morley, of North Haven Connecticut, previously of Hamden, CT passed away Dec. 14, 2007. She was born to the late Robert J. and Theresa R. Carroll in Providence, RI. Jayne was married
to the late Edward Franklin Morley. She leaves five sons and two daughters, Stephen F. Morley, of North Haven, Gretchen J. Callahan and her husband Bob, of Hamden, Christopher E. Morley and his wife Beth of Branford, Michelle C. Martinecz and her husband Joe of Cheshire, Edward A. Morley and his wife Betsy of North Haven, David M. Morley and his wife Michelle of Hamden and Kurt F. Morley and his wife Jennifer of Bridgeport. She was predeceased by her daughter Kristen, and her sister Marilyn Schleck. She is survived by several loving cousins, friends, nieces, and nephews. In addition, she leaves fifteen loving grandchildren, Samuel Morley, Christopher Callahan, Rory Callahan, Chelsea Callahan, Conor Callahan, Samuel Morley, Jack Morley, Molly Martinecz, George Martinecz, Ned Morley, Brendan Morley, Aeden Morley, Ryan Morley, Keon Morley, and Amilia J. Morley. Jayne graduated from Elmhurst Convent of the Sacred Heart, in Portsmouth, RI and later Edgewood, in Briar Cliff Manor, N.Y., Garland Jr. College of Boston, and The Katherine Gibbs School of Providence. Following college, Jayne worked for AT&T; before meeting and marrying Ned Morley of New Haven. After raising eight children, Jayne became President of Resco, Inc. of New Haven and later became General Manager of Morley Associates Inc, of Branford. Concurrently while at Morley Associates Inc., Jayne worked as a real estate agent for Kamp & Neilsen of Hamden. Jayne was a life long member of the New Haven Country Club where she enjoyed golf and paddle tennis. BULGER, ARTHUR C.
Mr. Arthur C. Bulger, age 81, of Woodbridge, beloved husband of 53 years to Isabelle Bulger passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2007 in the CT Hospice, Branford. Art was born on March 7, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York. He attended LaSalle Military Academy in Oakdale, Long Island, Williams College in Massachusetts and Yale University in New Haven and served during WWII with the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Yale in 1947 with degrees in engineering and accounting and then joined U.S. Rubber in Naugatuck as an industrial engineer. In 1952, he co-founded the Consulting Firm, Bvavier, Bulger & Goodyear with Ralph Bvavier in Naugatuck and moved the firm to Woodbridge in 1966. The firm was operated nationally and internationally in North and South America, England and France for over 50 years. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Lava Crucidle, Saxonburg Ceramics, American Paper Products and Elliptipar, Inc. Art and Isabelle began sailing together on the Schooner, True Love and enjoyed cruising and racing on 4 yachts, all of whom were named Starlight. Art competed extensively in New England, bringing home trophies for many events, including Block Island Race Week, Storm Trysail Race as well as Off Soundings Race. Art was a longtime member of The Milford Yacht Club and the Off Sounding Club. In addition to his wife, he leaves 3 children, Ellen Bulger of Woodbridge, Christopher Bulger and his wife Sylvia of Massachusetts and Jean Puth and her husband Bill of Illinois, 6 grandchildren, Emmet, Max, Zoe, Kate, Christopher and Alex. He also leaves 2 sister, Barbara OReilly and Kay Lynch. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Cody-White Funeral Home, 1076 Broad Street on the Green, Milford. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 19 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Center Road, Woodbridge. MANTOVANI, ANNA CARUSO
Anna Caruso Mantovani, 95, passed away on Sept. 10, 2007 at Quality Health Care in North Port, FL. She was the wife of the late Vincent Caruso and the late Guerino Mantovani. She was employed at Echlin Industries in Branford, CT. for many years prior to her retirement. Survivors include sons, Vincent Caruso of Durham, Raymond Caruso of Oyster Bay; daughter Roberta Lewis of Sacramento, CA.; stepdaughter Ellen Valanzuolo and stepson, Donald Mantovani both of East Haven, one sister Doris Addisio of FL., many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Linda Pompano and Florence Tomro, and brothers John Pascale and Frank Pascale.
APICELLA, PHYLLIS R.
Phyllis R. Apicella of East Haven, died on Dec. 10, 2007. Phyllis was born in New Haven, April 30, 1925 daughter of the late Antonio and Anna Apicella. She leaves 2 daughters, Eileen Stoehr and husband Frederick of Guilford, and Janis Johnson and husband Jeffrey of Clinton, 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also the sister of Anthony Apicella of Old Saybrook and Joseph Apicella of Branford. She was predeceased by a brother Andrew Apicella; a sister Mary Williams and a grandson, Caleb Johnson. Family & Friends invited to a Memorial Mass in St. Vincent dePaul Church, East Haven, Tuesday at 11 am. Interment was private in All Saints Cemetery. BUTTERWORTH, HENRY ("HANK") ARNOLD
Butterworth, Henry ("Hank") Arnold Butterworth, age 85, of Stratford, died peacefully on December 13, 2007. Mr. Butterworth was born in Bridgeport on July 22, 1922, to the late Nora Hart and Arthur Butterworth; he was a Fairfield resident for much of his adult life before returning to Stratford in 1995. He graduated from Stratford High School, and served as radio gunner on the USS Hornet in the Philippines Sea Battle of World War II, earning the US Navy's Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism. Mr. Butterworth owned and operated Butterworth & Sons Air Freight Trucking Company from 1964 to 1989. He was a longtime member of Brooklawn Country Club and an avid golfer; Charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 9460 in Stratford; lifelong sports fan, sponsoring both Little League and Babe Ruth teams in Fairfield; especially dedicated to the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, New York Giants, and UConn's basketball teams. Predeceased by wife Muriel Klingler of Fairfield, to whom he was married
for 56 years, and is survived by two sons Scott Butterworth of Stratford, and Mark Butterworth and wife Martha, a grandson Andrew Butterworth, all of North Haven. He was predeceased by a daughter Susan, a son Henry ("H.A."), brothers Kenneth (Tulsa, OK) and Lloyd (Stratford, CT), and a sister, Nora (Stratford, CT). After losing his first wife in 2002, he reconnected with and married
his high school sweetheart Arlyne Carrico of Stuart, Florida. She predeceased him earlier this year, and they are now both survived by the Carrico children - Philip ("Flip"), Vincent, Peter, Michael, and Marlene Carrico Stelly. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield, with full military honors. Friends may call Monday from 4 pm to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan K. DINEGAR, CAROLINE A.
Dr. Caroline A. Dinegar was born in New York City on Oct. 9, 1923, the daughter of Dr. Robert H.F. Dinegar and Carrie Fulton Hudson. She passed away in New Haven on December 12th. She attended St. Agatha School in New York City and graduated from Cornell University, where she had joined the Alpha ZI Delta national sorority. Following her undergraduate years at Cornell she returned to New York to earn her Masters degree and Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations and International Law at Columbia University as well as study at Oxford University in England. Demonstrating that women belong not only in the academic world but also in government and public service, Dr.Dinegar served for ten years as a Foreign Affairs Office for the U.S. State Department and as a liaison to the United States Mission to the United Nation in New York and in Paris. Academic positions followed as Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Connecticut, Associate Professor of International Law and Organization at Cal State in Northridge and as Assistant Professor in the Woodrow Wilson Department of Government at the University Virginia, preceded her appoint as Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of New Haven. Dr. Dinegar served as Chair of the Faculty Senate and also as Accreditation Officer, as Director of the Institute of Law and Public Affairs, Associate Provost for Government Affairs, as Affirmative Action Office and Director of Equal Opportunity and as Acting Director of the UNH Library. More recently Dr. Dinegar served as Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences as well as the Director of the School of Hospitality and Tourism. On leave from the University of New Haven, she served for two years as Director of the Peace Corps in the mid seventies and spent 1980-1981 as Professor of Strategy and Politics at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Entering the local political arena, Dr. Dinegar was twice the Republican Party candidate for Mayor of the City of New Haven, in 1985 and 1987. Over the past 20 years she has focused on addressing issues of terrorist activity and has taught courses on various aspects of terrorism, the only Connecticut academic to do so, resulting in her being a source of information for the press. Dr. Dinegar was the first of the UNH faculty to be awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. Dr. Dinegar is survived by her brother Wilbur Dinegar and his children, Joseph of Portland and Harriet of Juneau, Alaska. Survivors also include nieces and nephews in New Mexico, Louisiana and Colorado. Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 493 Whitney Ave., New Haven.
GALINNIS, ANN E.
In Branford December 13, 2007, Ann E. Galinnis of 17 Monroe St., Branford. She was born in Branford December 5, 1910, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Macy Galinnis. She was a retired machine operator for the former Ashley Shirt Co. and Gants. A lifelong resident of Branford and communicant of St. Mary Church, she was a former member of its Ladies Guild and of the Lithuanian Sisters Society. She is survived by a brother William Galinnis of Woodburn, OR, a nephew Thomas (Barbara) Mullen, and a niece Sharyneileen (Paul) Gailunas, both of Branford. She is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by sisters, Nell Mullen and Mary Troite, and brothers, John, Edward, and Peter Galinnis, and nephews, Robert Troite and John Mullen. Funeral from the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St ., Branford, Monday morning at 10:30 with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church at 11:00. Burial in St. Agnes Cemetery. COPE, TAY
In Middletown, December 8, 2007, Tay Cope of 679 East Main St. Branford. Wife of Edward Cope. Mother of Cathleen Auger and her husband Clyde of Clinton. Aunt of Michael Rue and his wife Michelle of Lawrenceville, N.J., and aunt of Shelley Austin and her husband Robert of Hamilton Township, N.J. Also aunt of Janet Reisman of Branford. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and many students and friends who loved her. She was predeceased by her son Craig Cope and her sister Eleanor Rue. Mrs. Cope was born in Trenton, N.J. on April 15, 1921, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Vojack. She taught voice and piano at the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven and Guilford from 1960-2007. In that time she also gave private lessons. She studied singing in New York City with Madame Dornee and in New Haven with Grace Donovan. She also sang for the Miami Opera Company. She performed at Carnegie Hall with Leopold Stokowski. She also performed at Woolsey Hall with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and the Yale Glee Club. She performed for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. She was past president of the Branford Musical Club and the St. Ambrose Club. She was choir director for St. Therese Church in Branford. She also sang with the choir at St. Mary Church in Branford and Trinity Church in Branford. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 11:00 at St. Therese Church in Branford. There will be a reception in the church hall immediately following mass. In Madison, Friday December 14, 2007, Jean Trench Smith, formerly of Broad St. Extension, Guilford. Wife of the late (Tad) Dewitt D. Smith. Beloved mother of Lorna (Ken) Buchta, Marilyn (Chip) Leslie, all of Guilford, Barbara (Geoffrey) Goddard of Rockport, MA., and Cynthia Smith Sandrey of Guilford. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by two sisters Virginia Davis and Charlotte Flesche. Mrs. Smith grew up in Fair Haven and summered in Leetes Island and resided there in later years. McNAMARA, MICHAEL
Cheshire - Michael McNamara, 55, of Waterbury Rd. passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Mr. McNamara was born August 5, 1952 in Waterbury the son of the late John G. and Alida (Cahill) McNamara. Michael was raised in Cheshire where he graduated from Cheshire High School. He worked for the Department of Corrections for 20 years at both Cheshire Correctional Center and Manson Youth Institute prior to his retirement. Michael also worked for the Executive Auto Group and Bradshaw Chrysler prior to becoming ill. He was a Life member of the Cheshire Fire Department, as well as being a former Auxiliary Police Officer in Cheshire and a member of the Prospect, V.F.W. Mr. McNamara is survived by his beloved daughters Kathleen McNamara of Southington, Elizabeth Grady and her husband Kevin of Southington, Carol Bergeron and her husband John of Plainville; three brothers John, Thomas, and James all of Cheshire; two sisters Doreen Everett and her husband Louis of Texas and Mary Stopkoski and her husband Stephen of Cheshire; five grandchildren, Devin Van Patten, Julianna Grady, Kelsey, Jonathan, and Katelynn Bergeron and several nieces and nephews. WELCH, EDWARD P.
Cheshire - Edward P. Welch, 81, of New Smyrna Beach and formerly of Cheshire, passed away Tuesday December 11, 2007at his daughter's home in Florida. He was the husband of Frances T. (Ryan) Welch.Mr. Welch was born September 17, 1926 in New York City the son of the late William T. and Emily (Gould) Welch. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy. He was a long time Cheshire resident before moving to Florida in 1990. He was a member of the Cheshire Knights of Columbus Santa Fe Council and the Connect Home Builder's Association. Besides his wife of 57 years, Mr. Welch is survived by his son Edward Jr. and wife Deborah of Cheshire; two daughters: Sheila Welch McInnis and husband Michael and Susan Welch Antillon and husband Ray both of New Smyrna Beach, FL and his son Neal and wife Kathie of Cheshire; a brother James Welch of Cheshire; eight grandchildren: Tara Welch Perry and husband Tim, Heather Welch Santee and husband Christopher both of Cheshire, Erin McInnis and Patrick McInnis both of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Hayley Welch, Neal Welch Jr., Ryley Welch and MacKenzie Welch all of Cheshire; and three great grandchildren: Samantha Welch, Christopher Santee Jr. and Victoria Santee all of Cheshire. DENNIS, DAVID LEE
David Lee Dennis, 54, of Southern California, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at his home. He was born August 21, 1953 in Denver, Co, a son of Doris (Hall) Dennis and the late Edward Lee Dennis. David, An all or nothing type of man was dedicated in every thing he did. His love of all sports, especially NASCAR #24, and the Oakland Raiders, along with his love for computers and his passion for Sci-Fi movies, landed him at ESPN in Bristol, where he worked in the television production field. He was very proud of the fact his daughter had chosen to follow his career path into television production. Besides his mother, David is survived by his daughter, Amanda Dennis of Branford, his brothers Richard and Jeffery Dennis, his sister Teresa Storey and many nieces and nephews.
