Filomena Cavaliere,
a Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 at St. Camillus Health Care Center in Stamford. She was 105.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Aug. 11, 1895, in Baragiano, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Carlo and Carmela Sellitti Pigro.
Mrs. Cavaliere was a homemaker and a former member of the original Italian Center on South Street in Stamford. She was a dress designer for several of the local dress manufacturers. She lived in Old Greenwich from 1955 to 1985 and in Stamford from 1985 to 1988. She then moved to Lititz, Pa., and returned to Stamford.
She is survived by three daughters, Carmela Portanova and Beatrice Cooke, both of Stamford, and Theresa Savitz of Palm Coast, Fla.; three sons, Frank D. Cavaliere, Carlo D. Cavaliere and Dominick J. Cavaliere, all of Stamford; and 20 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francesco P. Cavaliere; and three brothers and five sisters.
Calling hours were yesterday, Sept. 15, 2000 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.
A procession will leave the funeral home 9:20 a.m. today, Sept. 16, and proceed to Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 1200 Shippan Ave., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Darien.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Camillus Health Care Center, 494 Elm St., Stamford, CT 06902.
Joan Curtis Kovachi,
a Seymour resident, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. She was 61.
She died of cancer, according to her family.
Born Jan. 15, 1939, in Port Chester, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Schesney Curtis.
Mrs. Kovachi moved to Fairfield in 1973, where she lived for 23 years before moving to Seymour seven years ago.
She enjoyed sewing, needlework, quilting and antique hunting.
She is survived by her husband, Nicholas L. Kovachi; two daughters, Adrienne Kovachi Schuessler of Cheshire and Elaine K. Bernier of Bethany; a son, Nicholas J. Kovachi of Astoria, N.Y.; and two sisters, Estelle Tocchet of Fishkill, N.Y., and Lorraine Ciccarelli of Stamford.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Joseph B. Curtis Jr.
Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000 at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2000 at Christ Episcopal Church, 526 Amity Road (Route 63), Bethany.
Burial will follow in Carrington Cemetery, Bethany.

John A. Petroccia,
a long time Darien resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven. He was 99.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born Aug. 22, 1901, in Glen Cove, N.Y., he was the son of the late Rocco and Philomena Petroccia.
Mr. Petroccia studied horticulture at New York Agricultural College at Cornell University, where he was a member of the class of 1927. After graduation, he became superintendent of the John Sherman Hoyt Estate on Contentment Island in Darien. He established the Gardner's Center, which he ran until he retired.
He was honored in 1993 by the Darien Oldtimers' Association with the Community Civic Award.
Mr. Petroccia was a member of the Connecticut Nurserymen's Association and a longtime justice of the peace. He served two terms on the Darien Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a member of the Darien High School Building Committee and a past president of the Darien Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Fund Drive for the Darien Library, the Noroton Fire Department and the Kiwanis Club of Darien.
He was a charter member of the Country Club of Darien.
He is survived by a daughter, Fannie P. Ungemack of Stony Creek; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Lottie Thorwaldsen Petroccia; and a daughter, Alice P. Burnap.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18 at St. John's Church of Darien. Father Michael Jude Fay will officiate.
Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery
in Darien.

Manuel H. Pimentel Jr.,
a Stamford resident, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. He was 69.
He died of cancer, according to his family.
Born Dec. 5, 1930, in Stamford, he was the son of Carmella Vitti Pimentel of Mamaroneck, N.Y., and the late Manuel H. Pimentel Sr.
After Mr. Pimentel retired as an accountant for Grolier Publishing, he was employed by the city of Stamford as an account clerk.
He was a member of St. Leo's Church in Stamford, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Club of Mamaroneck.
Mr. Pimentel served in the U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Nancy Fiore Pimentel of Stamford; and his son, Paul Michael Pimentel of Washington , D.C.

Steven R. Moffett,
a lifelong Norwalk resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 43.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born Nov. 17, 1956, in Norwalk, he was a son of the late Franklin and Julia Blanarik Moffett.
Mr. Moffett was a 1975 graduate of Brien McMahon High School. He was a route salesman with Yankee Linen Supply Company Inc. of Norwalk.
He is survived by his wife, Heidi Twyeffort Moffett of Norwalk; a brother, Franklin Moffett Jr. of Westport; and two sisters, Judy McClellan of Arizona and Lynn Callis of North Carolina.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2000 at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000 at the funeral home.
Burial will be private.

William H. James Jr.,
a Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. He was 40.
He died of cancer, according to his family.
Born Oct. 30, 1959, in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Edith Dickerson and William Howard James Sr.
Mr. James worked as a maintenance engineer at Pitney Bowes for seven years. He served in the National Guard for six years. He was a member of Community Tabernacle of Deliverance Church in Stamford.
He is survived by his wife, Monica Hill James of Stamford; four sons, William James and Lydell James, both of Waterbury, John James of Bridgeport and Walter White of Stamford; two daughters, Shanet James of Bridgeport and Monique Hill of Stamford; two brothers, Louis James of Bridgeport and James Owen of New Haven; a sister, Mary Edie of Bridgeport; and eight grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Williams.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 18, 2000 at Community Tabernacle of Deliverance Church, 198 Selleck St., Stamford. A service will follow. Michael Densmore will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery
in Stamford.
