Linda D’Antonio, 61, of Old Amity Rd., Woodbridge died suddenly January 15, 2009. She was the daughter of Rose Luciani D’Antonio and the late William D’Antonio. Born in New Haven June 17, 1947 she was a beautician and the co-owner of D’Antone’s Beauty Salon for over 40 years. Linda was a member of the New Haven Bird Club and a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. She enjoyed baking and was twice awarded first place in the Assumption Parish Family Picnic Bake Off. Besides her mother she is survived by her sister, Virginia D’Antonio Herlihy of Woodbridge; her nephew, Daniel (Jessica Van Deren) Herlihy of New Haven; her niece, Anne (Adelaido) Rodriguez Herlihy of Madrid Spain; and her great nephew Lucas Rodriguez Herlihy.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Center Rd., Woodbridge Monday at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in East Side Cemetery. The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., New Haven is in charge of the arrangements.

PENN, PAMELA J.

Pamela Jean Jackson Penn, 48, of 240 Welton St., Hamden died at her home Jan. 10, 2009. Born in Bronx, N.Y. Feb, 29, 1960, she was the daughter of the late George & Grace Lollar Jackson. She worked as a child caregiver and was formerly an aid at Hamden Health Care. She is survived by her husband, Percy Penn Sr. of New Haven; 3 sons, Percy (Amy) Penn Jr. & Perddy (Casey) Penn, both of New Haven and Pernell (Mortrese) Penn of Hamden; step mother, Irene Bates of Saulsbury, N.C.; mother in law, Shirley Bustion of New Haven; 3 brothers, Chucky, Gregory & George Jackson, all of New York; 4 step daughters, Ebony McDuffy, Candice Johnson, Shaquasha Bronson & Mercedes Sykes; godson, Rinaldi Dixon; best friend, Quanetta Thomas; good friend, Vincent Campbell; 6 grandchildren; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives & friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Jackson and her step father, Bernious Dozier.

CACACE, ALBERT D.
January 8, 2009
Retired New Haven Firefighter Albert D. “Snookie” Cacace, 68, of 34 Manor Drive, North Haven died Jan. 8, 2009 in St. Raphael’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Judith Hoye Cacace. Mr. Cacace was born in New Haven Oct.2, 1940, son of the late Albert “Lefty” Cacace and Rose Candido Cacace. A 32 year veteran of the New Haven Fire Dept., he was appointed Feb. 7, 1964 and retired July 10, 1996. He spent most of his career at Central Station and was the driver of Aerial Tower 1 until he retired. He shared in a Unit Citation for a fire on Greenwich Ave. in 1973. He also worked as a painting contractor for a number of years. He was a member of the Italian American Society of the NHFD. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Andrea Coscarelli and her husband, Joseph of Stamford, Cynthia Beach and her husband, Charles of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. & Carbondale, Colorado; a son, Gary S. Cacace and his wife, Darlene of No. Andover, MA.; a sister, Rose Marie Panico, and her husband Anthony of North Haven; 6 grandchildren, Joseph, Gene & Jonathan Coscarelli, Alexis, Ryan & Thomas Cacace; and two nephews, Robert Panico of Wolcott & Michael Panico of Medford, MA.

Sophie Zullo Slater, 81, of 38 Willow St., West Haven, passed away Jan. 6, 2009 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the widow of Howard S. Slater. Mrs. Slater was born in New Haven Oct 16, 1927, daughter of the late Michael & Matilda Spina Zullo. Until her retirement, she was a sales person for Lupi Marchigiana Bakery. Prior to that, she was co-owner and operator, with her husband, of the former Shap’s Restaurant at Congress Ave. & Cedar St. in New Haven. At one time, she worked at Newton New Haven Die Casting. She is survived by two sons, Howard Slater Jr. of San Luis Obispo, CA. & Michael Slater of Avon; two daughters, Mary Levine of North Branford and Linda Slater of West Haven; 11 grandchildren, Robin & Felicia Haggerty, Dawn Brill, Tricia Spalding, Walter, Finessa, Howard III, Amanda, Cheryl, Todd & Jeremy Slater; and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Diane R. “Cookie” Slater and a sister, Genevieve Heffichuck.

Josephine E. D’Andrea, 73, of 238 Woodin St., Hamden died Jan. 1, 2009 in The CT. Hospice, Branford. She was the wife of James L. D’Andrea. Mrs. D’Andrea was born in Waterbury, Dec. 17, 1935, daughter of the late Ferdinando & Mary Vecchi. She worked in the New Haven offices of American Medical Response until 2006. Prior to that, she worked for Griest Mfg. Co. and MITE Corp. She was very family oriented and was a loving and giving person to all. Special thanks to those who cared for her at CT. Hospice. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, James J. D’Andrea of Hamden; two daughters, Cynthia (Ralph) Miranda of New Haven and Janet D’Andrea of Silver Spring, MD.; a brother, Arthur (Lillian) Vecchi of Watertown; a sister, Jennie (Raymond) Serfilippi of New Haven; and her special grandson, James Vincent Miranda.

SCHLITTER, ALBERT N.
WALLINGFORD/ORANGE: Albert N. Schlitter, 69, of Kirtland Court, Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Friday, December 7, 2007, at the Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, New York. He was the beloved husband of Linda Lohfink-Schlitter. Born in New Haven, August 7, 1938, a son of the late Albert C. and Anna Krewenis Schlitter, he had been resident of Orange for many years until moving to Yalesville. He was a graduate of Amity High School Class of 1957 and attended the University of Bridgeport, Antelope Valley Junior College in California, Pair School of Art, in New Haven, Pratt College of Art in New York and Southern Connecticut State University. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union Local No. 39 of New Haven. Besides his wife Linda, he is survived by his sister, Katherine Collenburg of Guilford; and his two nephews, Dennis Collenburg of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mark Collenburg of Guilford. POTOSKY, DENISE M.
WALLINGFORD: Denise M. Rogers Potosky, 56, of Wallingford, beloved wife of John Potosky, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at their residence, after a long battle with cancer. Born in New Haven, October 20, 1951, a daughter of Anne Koval Rogers of Wallingford and the late Algerd Rogers, she had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She was a graduate of the Lyman Hall High School Class of 1969 and the State Academy of Hairdressing and was the proprietor to Hair Plus Beauty Salon for 20 years. Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vic and Betty Martin and Bill and Laurie Potosky, all of Florida, and Mike Cole of Pennsylvania; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. Denise always had a smile, was a wonderful wife and was like a mother to Scotty her pet. She was never considered an in-law but always a sister. She was a true friend, loved every day God had given to her and was loved by everyone whose life she touched. Our loss is great but she is now at peace. BRIX, PAUL A.
Paul A. Brix, 49 of Wallingford passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 8th, 2007. Paul was born in Springfield, MA; son of the late Ernest W. and Anna (Sorresse) Brix; he lived most of his life in Kensington. He attended school in Kensington and graduated from Berlin High School and Middlesex Community College. He was employed at the United Concrete in Wallingford. He was a member of Saint Paul Church in Kensington. Paul is survived by three brothers Ernest W Brix Jr. and his wife Phyllis of Porter IN., James M. Brix and his wife Delia of Rio Rico AZ., and Charles L Brix and his wife Bernadette of Kensington. Three sisters Victoria B. Mooney and her husband Donald of Encinitas CA., Laura B. Foran and her husband Michael of New Britain and Diana M. Brix of Plantsville. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Along with family, Paul also leaves a special person in his life, "Daw" from Thailand. He had hoped to be united with her soon in the U.S. before his life was tragically taken. ROGERS, CHARLES, SR.
Charles Rogers, Sr., 67, of New Haven, CT passed away Friday, December 7, 2007. Born June 24, 1940 in Morganton, North Carolina to Elouise Rogers and the late Lloyd Rogers. Charles was self employed as a painter for many years. Charles was married to Louise Rich of New Haven, and he is survived by mother Elouise Rogers of New Haven; son Charles Rogers, Jr. of New Haven; two daughters Ella Louise Rogers and Ann Watson both of New Haven; four brothers Robert L. and J.R. Rogers both of High Point, NC, Lloyd Rogers, Jr. of Washington, DC and Willis R. Bowers of Norwood, NC; two sisters Ruth Westbrook of Winston Salem, NC and Nancy Robinson of High Point, NC; four grandchildren and one great grand child. RESNICK, ARLENE
Arlene Resnick, 80, of Hamden, died of complications related to lung cancer on Monday, Dec. 10, 2007. Arlene was the wife of Sid Resnick and the mother of three children, Naomi (Stanley) Schwartz of Providence, RI., Ruth Resnick (Roger) Johnson of Hamden, and Eugene V. Resnick, of New York City. Arlene is also survived by her sister, Bertha Burg, of Hamden, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Estelle and George Holt of New York, six grandchildren, Rebecca, Ezra, and Ben Schwartz, and Gabe, Ahna, and David Johnson, and nieces and nephews. Arlene was born in New Haven in 1927, the daughter of Frank and Tillie Kaezor. She attended public schools in New Haven Dwight Street School, Troup Middle School, and Hillhouse High School, from which she graduated in 1944. In 1949 Arlene married Sid Resnick. Their first apartment was on Gilbert Street in New Haven. Starting in 1957, they lived for 35 years on Valley St., opposite West Rock Park. They moved to Hamden in 1994. Arlene worked in a variety of jobs in the New Haven area. In the 1950s she worked at Shartenburgs Department Store, in the billing department and often staffing the candy counter. Later she worked as the secretary to the director of the YMCA of Hamden, and in 1960 was the assistant to New Haven peace activists Ola and Willard Uphaus. Arlene worked for 38 years at the medical illustrations office of the Yale Medical School. For many years she did lettering on illustrations and graphs, and later worked on the business side of the office. Arlene was a member of the Federation of University Employees, Local 34. She proudly walked the picket line in the three month strike of 1984. She retired from Yale at the age of 75 in 2002. In addition to her work, Arlene volunteered her time with the Parent Teacher Association at West Hills School, which all three of her children attended. She was also an active member of the Title I Parent Board for the New Haven School System. More recently, she has supported the work of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD). Arlene is remembered by her family and friends for her delicious homemade cakes, for her love of card games, Scrabble and crossword puzzles, and for her openness and ease of conversation. Her grandchildren enjoyed many day trips and evenings out at restaurants with their Bubbie and Zeide (grandmother and grandfather). All who knew her will remember her warmth, devotion and love for her friends and family, and her sense of justice. Memorial gatherings to celebrate Arlenes life are planned. In Yale N.H. Hospt., December 10, 2007 of Mill Creek Rd., Branford, husband of the late Pauline Landa Markleski, father of David S. Markleski of Branford and Michael P. and his wife Joanne Markleski of Branford, grandfather of Michael A. and Chelsea A. Markleski, brother of Matthew Markleski of Branford and the late Edmund Markleski and Loretta Colburn. Long time friend of Dorothy Simpson of Branford. Mr. Markleski was born in Branford, February 17, 1917, son of the late Ignacy and Amelia Markleski. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Church and an Army veteran of WW II, having served in the Pacific with Battery H of Branford. SPENCER, FRANCIS W.
Francis W. Spencer, husband of Dora Belbusti Spencer of East Haven, died December 10, 2007, at the Connecticut Hospice. He was born in West Haven, on Nov. 6, 1920, son of the late William and Anna Farrell Spencer. He is survived by; a son, Jeffrey (Georgia) Spencer of East Haven; daughters, Susan (Brian) Wood of East Haven and Candace (Mel) Poole of Thurmont, MD; grandchildren, Joshua and Lauren Poole, Christopher, Jennifer and Jeffrey Spencer II; and great-grand;child, Elijah Spencer. He was also the beloved uncle of Mary Speringo and David Belbusti of East Haven. He was predeceased by a brother, William Spencer. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during WW II and was the fourth Commander of the American Legion, Foxon Post 175. He had been an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 90. Mr. Spencer was responsible for obtaining house to house delivery of mail for the Glenmoor Development in East Haven. Barbara (Lewis) DAngelo, 83, of Southington and Block Island, RI, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Southington Care Center. She was the wife of Dominic DAngelo. Born November 28, 1924 in Southington she was the daughter of the late Earl Lewis and Ethel (Orr) Lewis Bundy. Besides her husband Dominic she is survived by her three children; Karen Duale and her husband Marc of London England, Mary Forssell and her husband Peter of Peterborough, NH, Peter McNerney and his wife Bernadette of Block Island, RI; 6 grandchildren, Ben and Kate Forssell, Yann and Tessa Duale, James and Patrick McNerney. She was predeceased by her twin sister Carol Trieber and her first husband James McNerney. RYAN, WILLIAM P., III
William P. Ryan, III, the much beloved and respected husband of Ursula Ryan for 55 years, died peacefully at home with his wife and family at his side. Through their love for each other, Bill and Ursula brought into this world eight children including Mary Jude who died in infancy. They are Denise Canestri of Guilford, CT., Colleen Miklinevich of West Redding, CT, Anne Ryan of Bethany, Patrice Carroll of Mendham, N.J., William P. Ryan IV of West Haven, Ct., Michael Ryan of Littleton, CO., and Steven Ryan of Bethany. He cared very deeply for his children, his 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was a man of great integrity and humor and will be sorely missed by his wife and family. He worked his way thru Villanova College by working summer jobs and getting scholarships, and graduated in 1952 at the top of his Mechanical Engineering Class. He then attended Drexel University and Northeastern U. at night to achieve his Masters in Electrical Engineering. In 1963 he was employed at MITE Corp in the Westville section of New Haven, CT. as a manager and rose to VP and then to CEO as the company changed to New Haven Mfg. He retired in 1995. He was an avid sports fan and frustrated golfer. He participated at various times as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, The Woodbridge Rotary Club, and the Woodbridge Country Club. Through photographs from his travels, he occassionally gave beautiful slide shows to various organizations. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Center Rd., Woodbridge. Sister of Antoinette (Chickie) Santoemmo of East Haven.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
RoseAnn was born in New Haven on October 22, 1939, a daughter of the late George and Lillian Zeoli Lacey.
She recently celebrated her 50 th wedding anniversary on November 30th.
She worked as a child care provider and lovingly raised many children whose parents are grateful to have had RoseAnn in their lives. She was an avid animal lover and was the strength of her family. She will be greatly missed by her family & friends. For the children she cradled in her arms, may the Lord hold her in the Palm of His hands. Funeral from the W.S. SPENCER, MARIAN J.
In New Haven, December 9, 2007, Marian J. Spencer, 85, of Grey Ledge Dr., Guilford, CT. Born November 7, 1922, daughter of the late Harry and Ada Holladay Knoch. She lived in Kansas City, KS and Colcord, OK before moving to Guilford, CT in 1999. She was a member of the North Guilford Congregational Church and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross as a coordinator of Medical Rides for Guilford residents. She retired from Allen Canning Company in Siloam Springs, AR in 1992. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Joyce and John DAmato with whom she resided. She is also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Daniel Harding, her husband, Merl Spencer, a brother, and two sisters. A Memorial Service will be held at the North Guilford Congregational Church, 159 Ledge Hill Rd, Guilford, CT on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 1:30pm. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Dickson Cemetery, Cherokee, AR.
