Roger L. Valliere
12-22-1912 - 4/7/2004
Roger L. Valliere, 91, of Windham, formerly of Mansfield, husband of the late Aline (Gagnon) Valliere, died Wednesday, 04/07/2004, in St. Joseph Living Center in Windham.
Mr. Valliere was a chef in the St. Mary-St. Joseph School Cafeteria for 22 years, retiring several years ago. He, previously, was a baker with the Beauchamps and Mandel Bakeries. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Willimantic.
His survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Normand and Eva Valliere of Columbia, Richard and Margaret Valliere of No. Windham, and Paul and Mary Valliere of Asheville, NC. He also leaves eight grandchildren: Denise Peay, Mark Valliere, Brenda Anderson, David Valliere, Kenneth Valliere, Steven Valliere, Cynthia Porach and Eric Valliere. Other survivors include ten great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Anna Valliere of Willimantic and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, 4/12/04, at 10 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church in Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 6 to 8 P.M. and again on Monday, from 9:00 to 9:30 A.M. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic.

Alice B. Monroe
05-01-1911 - 1/29/2004
Alice B. Monroe, 92, of Willimantic, widow of Harold Monroe, Sr., died Thursday, 1/29/04, in her home.
She was born May 1, 1911 in Lowell, MA, son of David and Derilba (Rondeau) Laferriere.
Mrs. Monroe was a supervisor in the Housekeeping Dept. of the University of CT, retiring in 1975. She had been previously employed by the American Thread Co. for many years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Anne Monroe, Jr. and a grandson, Kyle Chilleri. Her daughter, Francine Monroe predeceased her.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, 2/2/04, at 10 A.M. in St. Joseph Church in Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. There are no calling hours. The Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic has charge of arrangements.

James Kegler
- 2/9/2004
James C. Kegler, 72, a lifelong resident of Willimantic, died Monday, 2/9/04, in Haven Health Center of Windham.
He was born July 29, 1931 the son of the late James and Ellen (Murphy) Kegler.
Mr. Kegler had a long career at Electric Boat in Groton. He was a graduate of Windham High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Eastern CT State College with a dual major in Accounting and Economics. James was a Korean War veteran in the Army as a Ham Operator in Germany. He served on the Windham Zoning Board, and was a member of the VFW Gold Star Post 1724 and the Irish Club.
His survivors include three nephews: Joseph P. Kegler, Jr. of Fairfield, CT, Matthew D. Kegler of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Michael D. Kegler of New London. He also leaves several 2nd and 3rd cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph P. and David D. Kegler.
His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, 2/14/04, at 11 A.M. in the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.

Alberta D. Belanger
03-15-1935 - 2/26/2004
Alberta D. (Legace) Belanger, 68, of Willimantic, beloved wife of Ronald L. Belanger, died Thursday, 2/26/04, at home.
She was born March 15, 1935 in Willimantic, daughter of Albert and Yvonne (Decelles) Legace.
Mrs. Belanger was a supervisor, employed by the Mansfield Training School for 20 years, retiring 8 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters: Cathy Belanger of Bristol, Susan Belanger, Debra Belanger and Lisa Belanger all of Willimantic. She also leaves a brother, Albert J. “Sonny” Legace of Willimantic and a grandson, Christopher Belanger.
Her Graveside Service will be Monday, 3/1/04, at 10 A.M. in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. There are no calling hours. The Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic is in charge of arrangements.

Emanuela Ducharme

Emmanuella “Nellie” Ducharme, 92, of West Hartford, formerly of Willimantic, widow of Raymond A. Ducharme, died Sunday, 2/29/04, in her home.
She was born Sept. 5, 1911 in Ensley, Alabama daughter of Vincenzo and Catherine (Marino) Alescia.
Mrs. Ducharme had been employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft from 1942 to 1945. She and her husband owned and operated Ray’s Milk Bar Restaurant in Willimantic from 1947 to 1953. She was a member of the Italian-American Heritage Club in Willimantic.
Her survivors include a son, George Gill Ducharme and his wife Joan of Granby, a daughter, Carol D. French and her husband, Gary of Bonsall, CA, a stepson, Michael Moran and his wife, Paula of Westerly, RI, a stepdaughter, Donna (Moran) Hollback of Willimantic, and a sister, Ann King and her husband, Tom of Willimantic. She also leaves three grandchildren: David French and his wife, Tracy, Scott French and Alescia Ducharme; five great grandchildren: Brittany, Kyle, Logan, and Jordan French and Allison Ducharme.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 3/4/04, at 10 A.M. in St. Joseph Church in Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. and again on Thursday, from 9:00 to 9:30 A.M. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic.

Bailey Teresa Shifrin

Our slice of heaven went from our arms to God's on March 16, 2004. Bailey Teresa Shifrin came into our lives on May 3, 1997 and changed us forever. Bailey spread God's word without ever speaking. Her unconditionallove, trust, laughter, and pure, beautiful smile taught all of us how to love one another. Bailey leaves her mother, Mary-Grace, her incredible, loving brother, Cooper, and her dad, Jim all waiting to join her again. She also leaves behind her grandmother, Flora Shifrin, and her grandparents, Ed and Dolores Quick, loving aunts and uncles, and her cousins Nick, Joe, and Sean Shifrin, Bryan
Quick, and Samantha and Tyler Howe. Bailey's life continues to be a little light to all who know her.
Services for Bailey will be held on Saturday, March 20 from 11:30-12:30 at the Church of the Holy Family on route 85 in Hebron. Her burial will follow at the Exeter Cemetery on route 207 in Lebanon for family and close friends. All are invited to a reception to reflect and celebrate Bailey's life at the Church of The Holy Family immediately following.

Frederick John Wurm

Frederick John Wurm, 77, died April 4, 2004 in Douglas Manor in Windham, CT.
A longtime resident of East Haven, He was born in Keene, NH on Sept. 10, 1926 the son of Hugo and Josephine Wurm, Jr.
Mr. Wurm was a former employee of Yale-New Haven Hospital.
He leaves two sisters, Marie Shanley and Marta Holman and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Anne Prout and a longtime friend, Gladys Denis.
His Graveside Service will be held Friday, 4/9/04, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford, CT.

Walter Hanyckyj
11-01-1916 - 6/6/2004
Walter Hanyckyj, 87, of Columbia, beloved husband of Anna (Humyuk) Hanyckyj, died Sunday, 6/6/04, at home.
Born in Hrebeniew, the Ukraine, He and Anna immigrated to the United States and have lived in the Windham area since 1949. They celebrated their 59th anniversary on June 3 of this year. “How thankful he was to live in freedom.”
He had been employed by the Mansfield Training School for 10 years, until his retirement. He previously worked at the American Thread Co. for 20 years. Mr. Hanyckyj was a founder and charter member of St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Ukrainian National Home.
Besides his wife, his survivors include a son, Marty and his wife, Ceci, a daughter, Gloria Hochanadel and her husband, Steve; Three grandchildren: Elijah and his wife, Beth, Aubrie, and Adam Hochanadel. He also leaves two great grandchildren, Sarabeth and Isabella and his caregiver, Nella Ozga. He was predeceased by his son, Myron.
A Panahyda Service will be held Thursday, 6/10/04, at 9:30 A.M. in the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, followed by a procession to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church for the celebration of his Funeral Mass at !0 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Panahyda Service at 7 P.M.

Bernadette St.Laurent
01-29-1913 - 5/24/2004
Bernadette (Rowan) St.Laurent, of Willimantic, widow of Gerard G. St.Laurent, died Monday, 5/24/04, in Windham Hospital.
She was born Jan. 29, 1913 in Hartford, CT.
Mrs. St.Laurent had been employed by the University of CT in Storrs in the Purchasing Dept. for 35 years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
Her survivors include a daughter, Sue Arnold of South Windsor; two grandchildren: Beth Grigorian of South Windsor and Kristopher Arnold of Simsbury; five great grandchildren: Gavin and Hannah Grigorian, Samantha, Jordan and Jake Arnold. She also leaves a niece, Jane Napolitano of Fort Myers, FL.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 5/27/04, at 10 A.M. in St. Joseph Church on Jackson St. in Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. There are no calling hours.
