Helen S. Forster
FORSTER - Helen S. Forster, age 88, of Cape Coral, FL, formerly of Orange, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Juniper Village, Cape Coral, FL. Born in Derby on March 5, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Akim and Martha Sikora Segenchuk. Mrs. Forster was a homemaker and longtime resident of Orange, before moving to FL 3 years ago. She is survived by her sons, Robert J. Forster and his wife, Debra, of FL and George E. Forster and his wife Judith, of Cheshire; daughter, Karen F. Berardi and her husband, Thomas, of SC; sister, Kathryn Otto of Orange; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded by her husband, George P. Forster; sister, Anne Brangaccio; and brother Peter Segenchuk. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM, in the Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Ave., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton. Family and friends may call prior to the funeral service on Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the Three Saints Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Three Saints Church. Anna O. Stelma
STELMA - Anna O. Stelma, age 89, of Shelton, beloved wife of the Peter Stelma, died peacefully at home on October 20, 2010. Born in Ansonia, CT on January 14, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Ignatz and Mary Hylwa Ostapak. Mrs. Stelma was a long time resident of Shelton and lived in Port St. Lucie, FL, for a period of time; returning to Shelton after the passing of her husband. Mrs. Stelma was a long time member of Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, Ansonia. Before her retirement, she worked for over 30 years as a sewing machine operator for the B.F. Goodrich Sponge Products Co., formerly of Shelton. Mrs. Stelma was a kitchen volunteer at the Shelton Senior Center for over 10 years and had been chosen volunteer of the year. She is survive by her devoted children, Peter Stelma and his wife, Andrea of Middletown, and Linda Sorel and her husband, Donald of FL; a dear sister, Olga Vinner of Shelton; cherished grandchildren, Kristen Schechter and her husband Brian of Cheshire, Jennifer Stelma and her husband, Zach Leonard of VT, Scott Sorel and his wife Barbara and Donna Knox and her husband, Steven, all of MO; as well as 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 9:15 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM in the Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Ave., Ansonia. Interment will directly follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Joanne C. Hanley
HANLEY - Joanne C. Hanley, age 65 of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the Lt. James J. Hanley BPD, died February 22, 2011 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on March 12, 1945 she was the daughter of the late John and Helen Zaczkowski Zuccalmaglio. Mrs. Hanley was a lifelong Bridgeport resident and worked as a cafeteria assistant at the Blackham Elementary School. She will be remembered for her love of shopping and her special love for her daughters and grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Dawn Hanley of Bridgeport and Jennifer Moniz of Monroe; a sister, Penny Dabrowski of Fairfield; a brother, Joseph Zuccalmaglio of FL; a sister-in-law, Sonia Zuccalmaglio of Trumbull; grandchildren, Anthony, Nicholas, Matthew and Jonathon Hanley and Briana Moniz, Mackenzie and Geoffrey Benevides, Jr.; dear cousins, Denise and John Poppa of Bridgeport, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hanley was predeceased by a son-in-law, Kevin Moniz and a brother, Robert Zuccalmaglio. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 7:30 PM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Interment will be private. Barbara V. Carey
CAREY - Barbara V. Carey, age 82, beloved wife of James R. Carey of Shelton, died peacefully on June 13, 2010 at Griffin Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Czechoslovakia on June 15, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Mihalik Stanko. Mrs. Carey worked as a nurse for Griffin and the former Laurel Heights Hospitals; she then became a paraprofessional for the Shelton Public School System, before her retirement in 1994. She was active parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Shelton for over 40 years. Mrs. Carey will be long remembered for her unending and limitless love for her family and her wonderful cooking that kept them all close together. In addition to her beloved husband of 58 years, she is survived by her devoted children, Susan Trovarelli and her husband, John of Derby, James R. Carey, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Simsbury, Ann Seitter and her husband, Christopher of Scituate, MA, Lynn Chamberland and her husband, Randy of Shelton, Thomas Carey of Ansonia and Judith Ahearn and her husband, Timothy of Bethany; a brother, Stephen Stanko and his wife, Terry, of Deep River; 13 Cherished Grandchildren, David and Christopher Trovarelli, Matthew and Gregory Carey, Ryan and Maggie Seitter, Olivia and Tyler Chamberland, Samantha, Reily, and Trevor Carey, Hannah and Jack Ahearn; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, John and Michael Stanko; and sisters, Mary Matika, Ann Mudry and Elizabeth Koeller. A Mass of Christian Burial, MEETING DIRECTLY IN CHURCH, will be celebrated by Msgr. Bob Weiss in St. Joseph Church, 430 Coram Ave., Shelton on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Tillie Warion
WARION - Tillie Warion, age 87 of Seymour, beloved wife of the late John Warion, died February 19, 2011 at Griffin Hospital, Derby. Born in Ansonia on September 16, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Domka Dubinka Bakunowich. Mrs. Warion was a formerly an Ansonia resident and member of Assumption Church where she belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America. She worked for the former Kornblat's Clothing Store of Main St., Ansonia and then worked as an electrical assembler for the former Samarius Co. of Derby, for over 20 years until retirement. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Joan Marie Warion of Seymour and her loyal and loved golden retriever, Major. Mrs. Warion is predeceased by three brothers, Peter and Nicholas Bakunowich, Alexander Bakunowich, Jr. and his wife, Marie; and a sister, Nina Bakunowich. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 9:30 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Adelaide Leighton
LEIGHTON - Adelaide Leighton, age 90 of Middlebury, formerly of Naugatuck and Bethany, beloved wife of the late Raymond E. Leighton, died January 15, 2011 at Waterbury Hospital. Born in New Haven on December 31, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Albert C. and Adelaide Harder Williams. Mrs. Leighton was a kitchen worker for the Amity School District and as a sales associate for J.C. Penny Co. in FL, for many years until the time of her retirement. Together with her husband, she enjoyed many winter seasons in Florida. Mrs. Leighton was an avid quilter and loved to sew, she was a member of the Naugatuck Grange Quilting Club. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Nancy L. and Michael "Maxie" Maximenko of Naugatuck; a sister, Eleanor Conary of Wallingford; a cherished grandson, Michael Maximenko and his wife, Cassandra of Naugatuck, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Constance Darling, Lois Miller, Jean F. Motzer and Ruth B. Shaw. A springtime graveside service will be held in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Middlebury Convalescent Home for their compassionate care extended to Adelaide. In Branford January 26, 2003 Marian B. (Larry) Czaplicki. Husband of Wanda Marchlinsky Czaplicki of Branford. Father of Wanda Keller of Shelton, Barbara Bonatti of Charlotte, N.C., Paul Czaplicki of East Haven and Peter Czaplicki of Branford. Brother of Irene Howard of Alabama. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Predeceased by a brother John Czaplicki. Mr. Czaplicki was born in Ryki Bookone, Poland on October 7, 1912, a son of Leo & Margaret Morawski Czaplicki. Mr. Czaplicki worked for Malleabla Iron Fittings in Branford for 45 years and also worked for the Branford School system. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Branford. Mr Czaplicki's family would like to extend it's sincere gratitude to the staff of Branford Hills Health Care for the excellent care they provided for Larry.

Peter W. Kozak
KOZAK - Peter W. Kozak entered into eternal rest on February 23rd at Lord Chamberlain in Stratford. Peter was born in Ansonia on June 8, 1925, son of the late Michael and Anna (Tener) Kozak. He was the husband of the late Victoria (Bomba) Kozak. He lived in Derby for the past 42 years and in Seymour and Ansonia prior to that.
Peter served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942-1946. He served in WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and participated in action against the enemy on Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa. He was wounded in action on Saipan and received the Purple Heart.
Peter worked for many years as a flight mechanic for Sikorsky Aircraft before retiring in 1978. He also worked at Chippy's Garage. After retirement, hobbies included collecting, buying and selling antiques at flea markets and traveling to Florida and Pennsylvania.
He is survived by a sister, Lillian Tall of Shelton, and 2 brothers Franklin Kozak of Englewood, Florida and George Kozak of Ansonia. He was predeceased by a brother William Kozak.
He leaves six daughters: Catherine Kozak of Ansonia, Joan Arbusto of Southbury, Virginia Russo of Derby, Patricia Oczkowski of Oxford, Mary Ellen Pec and Donna Lynch both of Prospect. He has 14 grandchildren: Denise (Arbusto) Shriver, Frederick Arbusto, Philip Russo III, Bethany (Russo) Seymour, Joshua, Sarah, David and Elijah Russo, Matthew and Lukas Oczkowski, Michael and Stephen Pec, Kelly and Megan Lynch.
He also has 3 great-grandchildren, Caiden Shriver, Brooklyn Russo and Philip J. Russo IV.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 10:30 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Interment with Military Honors will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Family and friends may call on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 AM. Katherine Ann Cafaro
CAFARO - Katherine Ann Cafaro, age 71, beloved wife of William Cafaro of Derby, died peacefully September 22, 2010 at CT Hospice, Branford, surrounded by her family. Born in Bridgeport on April 18, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian Di Pietro Zarrillo. Mrs. Cafaro was a longtime Derby resident and member of St. Mary's Church. She will be long remembered for her special love and devotion to her family and especially for her cherished grandchildren and great-grandson. In addition to her spouse, she is survived by her devoted children, Nick Donofrio, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Derby and Cynthia Beyer and her fiancée Carlos Ortiz of Derby; grandchildren, Nicky and Amy Donofrio; Billy and Jimmy Beyer, and great-grandson, Ryley Beyer all of Derby; step- children, Karen Cafaro Thorpe and her husband James of Seymour, Lisa Cafaro Searles and her Husband Richard of Seymour, Robert Cafaro and his wife Iris of Branford and step-grandchildren, Brendan Machowski, Morgan Machowski Austen Searles, Matthew Searles, Stephanie Thorpe and Sara Thorpe. She was predeceased in 1994 by her first husband of 33 years, Nicholas T. Donofrio and a brother, Vincent Zarrillo. Steven Gentle
GENTLE - Steven D. Gentle, age 50 of Derby, died January 26, 2011, at Griffin Hospital. Born in Stamford on May 12, 1960, he was the son of Raymond Gentle, Sr. of PA and the late June Smith Gentle. Mr. Gentle was a resident of Stratford, Norwalk and Stamford before moving to Derby three years ago. He worked as a customer service representative for Cityline Distributors for many years, until the time of his illness. He was an avid bowler and NY Met fan. In addition to his father, he is survived by brothers and sisters, Brenda Cottrell and her husband, James of Derby, Marilyn Hazel and her husband, James of MO, Raymond Gentle, Jr. of NH, Robert Gentle, Sr. and his wife, Doreen of Bristol, Wayne Gentle, Sr. of Norwalk and Jonathan Gentle of PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. MACHOWSKI - Julia Kowtko Machowski, age 87 of MN, formerly of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Bronislaus S. Machowski, died February 1, 2011. Born in Ansonia on April 20, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Maxim and Mary Kopcha Kowtko. Mrs. Machowski was an Ansonia resident before moving to MN three years ago. She was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and worked as a bookkeeper for Kasden Fuel for 27 years, until her retirement in 1985. She is survived by her devoted son, James S. Machowski and his wife Barbalyn of MN; a cherished granddaughter, Katherine Ann Dinsmore of MN; a sister, Marilyn Michel of Seymour; a sister-in-law, Marie Kowtko of Waterbury; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Olga Pozucek and Ann Evon; and brother Max Kowtko. Funeral services will take place on Monday, February 7, 2011, at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Emilio Quiles
QUILES - Emilio "Jay" Quiles, Jr., age 50, beloved husband of Donna Lee Quiles of Bridgeport, died February 19, 2011 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Emilio H. Quiles and Sonja LaBoy Rivera of Puerto Rico. Mr. Quiles worked as a security guard at the JFK International Airport for 25 years before his retirement. He was an active spokesman and volunteer for the Ryan White Program and will be remembered for his love of music. Mr. Quiles was a member of the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection and a popular kitchen volunteer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children, Lisa, David, Emilio III, Taisha, April and Nick; sisters, Eva Figueroa and Sara Rios; a brother, Samuel Quiles; mother-in-law, Patricia Little; Father-in-law, Kenneth Von Holtz; aunt-in-law, Celeste Verzaro; as well as 10 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Jose Quiles and a sister, Maria Rivera. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection, 6 Church St., Ansonia, on March 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Amelia O. Juzwishen
JUZWISHEN - Amelia O. Juzwishen, age 88 of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Steven Juzwishen, died February 25, 2011 at the Hilltop Health Center, Ansonia with her son by her side. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on November 16, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Martha Hoponick Onischuk. Mrs. Juzwishen was a lifelong member of Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church and Ansonia resident. She worked as a bookkeeper for the American Brass Co. and the City of Ansonia Finance department, until the time of her retirement. She is survived by her devoted son, Paul Juzwishen of Ansonia; a niece, Sarah Tramontana of Ansonia and a nephew, Philip Belko of Vancouver, BC. She was predeceased by sisters, Christina Belko and Eugenia Opekun. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 9:00AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Robert R. Steigerwald
STEIGERWALD - Robert R. Steigerwald, age 65 of Danbury, died January 31, 2011 in his home. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 1, 1945, he was the son of the late Robert A. and Anne Elizabeth DeForrest Steigerwald. Mr. Steigerwald was raised in LI, NY and excelled in athletics as a young man. He was especially skilled in track and field events. He graduated from Manhattan College and Iona University with a Masters Degree and worked in information technology within the publishing field, currently employed with the NY Times. Mr. Steigerwald was a voracious reader and enjoyed a spirited debate. He was daily member of the Starbuck's Morning Club of Danbury where he will be dearly missed by all his friends. He is survived by his devoted children, daughter Ronda Zalenski, her husband Bob, granddaughters Shae and Skye of Shelton, CT; Son, Sean Steigerwald, his wife Carrie, grandson Preston, and granddaughter Audrey, of Mason, OH; brothers and sisters, Betsy Meisser and her husband Bill, Tony Steigerwald and his wife Jenny, Mary Delello and her husband Jim and Patricia Steigerwald, all of LI, NY. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia on Monday, February 7, 2010 at 7:00 PM with the Rev. Nicholas Pavia officiating. Paul Sirowich
SIROWICH - Paul Sirowich, age 63 of Seymour, died in his home on February 4, 2011. Born in Derby on August 6, 1947, he was the son of the late Michael and Helen Karpinowich Sirowich. Mr. Sirowich was a graduate of Amity High School and worked for the former Farrel Co. in tool design and as a foundry manager. Mr. Sirowich was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his devoted brothers and sisters, Janice (Hank) Misiak of Woodbridge, Anita Kuehn (Ward) of TN, Katherine Burke (David) of North Haven, Thomas Sirowich (Carole) of Washington Depot, Robert Sirowich (Evelyn) of Seymour, Nancy Griffin (Fran) of Bethany; a sister-in-law, Joy Sirowich of Seymour; as well as many nieces and nephews. Sara Tuccio Towne
TUCCIO TOWNE - Sara Tuccio Towne, age 94 of Venice, FL, formerly of Ansonia, died January 3, 2011. Born in Ansonia on December 4, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna Louistro Tuccio. Mrs. Towne resided in Ansonia for 60 years, before moving to Florida in 1977. She worked as a Registered Nurse until her retirement in 1981. Mrs. Towne was an avid reader and a talented crossword puzzler. She is survived by her devoted son Thomas Mikulski and his wife, Elaine of FL; grandson, Charles Mikulski and his wife, Jennifer of FL and granddaughter, Laura Dillon and her husband, Thomas of IL; sisters, Lucy Millican and Connie Valentine, both of Ansonia, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Sara’s life will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Mitch Wanat officiating in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Inurnment will be private in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, prior to service.

Lori Jean Hayden
HAYDEN - Lori Jean Hayden, age 55, beloved wife of John Hayden of Seymour, died April 5, 2011 in Griffin Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Derby on January 31, 1956, she was the daughter of Genevieve Taradine O'Keefe of Seymour and the late Edward O'Keefe. Mrs. Hayden was a lifelong resident of Seymour and a 1973 Graduate of Seymour High School. She worked as an Optometric Assistant for Dr. Howard Cohen of Shelton for 20 years, until the time of her illness. Mrs. Hayden enjoyed many trips to Disney with her family. In addition to her mother and husband of 36 years, she is survived by her devoted children, Shaun Hayden and his companion Erica of Naugatuck, Christina Hayden Taylor and her husband, Anthony of Southbury and Megan Hayden of Seymour; a sister, Tami Raspanti and her husband, Jim of Bristol; brothers Gary O'Keefe and his wife Monserrate of Ansonia, Timothy O'Keefe and his wife Martha of FL; and Ryan O'Keefe and his wife Michelle of FL; cherished grandsons, Andrew and Devin Taylor of Southbury, and Logan Hayden of Naugatuck; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia, on Friday, April 8, 2010 at 7:00 PM. Family and friends may call on Friday, April 8, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Citizens Engine Co. 2, 26 Deforest St. Seymour, CT 06483.
