Alice Currao Barnes, 75, of Brushy Plains Rd., Branford, formerly of Goshen, NY, died November 16 at CT Hospice after a 6 year struggle with cancer.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Edna Van Rompaye Currao, her first husband, Kenneth Kastrup and her second husband, Stanley Barnes. Alice was retired from the State University of New York at New Paltz where she was Assistant Registrar of Graduate Studies. She was a 44 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of both Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survived by her beloved son Joseph Kastrup and his wife Kathleen of Madison, her cherished grandsons, Timothy Kastrup and his wife Gina of Middletown, CT, and Kevin Kastrup of Brighton, MA, her sister Ida Kain and her husband William of Hadley, MA, three nieces and their families, and a half-sister, JoEllen Dest and her family of Goshen.
Friends may call Sunday from 5 - 7 pm at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford. Burial will be private. A memorial mass will be celebrated in January 2002 to honor Alice’s birth.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Ladies Auxiliary of either the VFW Post 8645, 101 Rte. 208, New Paltz, NY 12561-2724 or the American Legion Post 0377, Goshen, NY 10924.

In Branford January 14, 2004, Theresa DaRos Barnes, wife of the late John R. Barnes of 101 Quarry Rd., Stony Creek.
She is the mother of John and Mark Barnes of Stony Creek, and grandmother of Sarah, Matthew, Samuel and Emma Barnes. She was pre-deceased by brothers, Peter and Anthony DaRos, SR. and a sister Mary DaRos.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Leetes Island, Guilford, June 10, 1916, daughter of the late Giacomo and Angelina DeNardi DaRos. She worked for Dr. Nathan Levy and his son Dr. Harold Levy for over 50 years, until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Therese Church, a member of its Women’s Guild and she was an active member of the 1935 BHS Reunion Committee.
Funeral from the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford Monday morning at 10:30 with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Therese Church at 11:00. Burial in Stony Creek Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 1 - 3 PM.

Suddenly in New Haven November 18, 2002, Robert W. Barnett, beloved husband of Sandra Liston Barnett of 31 Flat Rock Rd, Branford.
Devoted father of Kelly Barnett of Boston, Michael Barnett of New Haven and Jeffrey Barnett of Branford. Son of Jean Buckingham Barnett of Guilford and the late William Barnett. Brother of Sheila Barnett of Manchester.
He was born in New Haven October 1, 1944. He served two tours of duty with the U. S. Marine Corps in Vietnam, and he has worked for AT & T in New Haven since 1967 where he was a communications technician. He was a member of Stony Creek Fire Rescue Co. 5, and he had been attending college.
Funeral from the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford Thursday morning at 9:30 with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Therese Church at 10:00. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday (TODAY) from 5 - 8 pm.

Vera J. Barlow

Vera J. Lloyd Barlow, born in Warrington, England December 10, 1940 lost her battle with cancer after a long, valiant fight on September 17, 2006.
A devoted wife, mother and nana, she leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 45 years, James; her son, Paul of Branford and his sons, Benjamin, Christopher, and Bradley; her loving daughter, Samantha (Barlow) Moore, of Guilford, her son-in-law, Don and their three adoring daughters, Alexandria, Hadley and Francesca.
She also leaves behind her cherished niece, Christina, of Warrington, England and many special longtime friends. She was pre-deceased by her father, Jack; mother, Sarah; brothers, Harry, John and George, and her sister, Eunice.
Her family extends their deepest gratitude to the many doctors and nurses who have cared for her during her lifetime. Special thanks to Dr. Harold Levy, Dr. Alan Rodriguez and Dr. Kay Haedicke.
Sincerest appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the Hospital of St. Raphael for their caring, dedication to her and for the doctors and nurses at Connecticut Hospice, who made her last days peaceful. Thank you all.
Francesca says even though Nana is gone, she will always be with us because love lives forever. Although we will miss her, we will rejoice in her life.
Please join us for a memorial celebration of her life, on Friday September 22, at 10:00 AM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford. Burial will be private.

Father and father-in-law of Robert and Linda Barth of Guilford, Richard and Jeanne Barth of Moodus, George and Susan Barth of Guilford, Dean and Meg Griffin of Deep River and Dorothy and Thomas Pepe of Branford. Also survived by 10 grandchildren. Pre-deceased by brothers George (Red) Barth, Charles (Mickey) Barth and John Barth and sisters June Porcu, Frances Catenza and Margaret Riccio.
He was born in West Haven July 15, 1920, son of the late George and Margaret McDonald Barth. He was a paratrooper in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and he was a retired machine operator for O. C. E. in Guilford.

Frances Lorusso Bimonte, 89, formerly of 315 Eastern St., New Haven, passed away May 11, 2008 in Bel Air Manor, Newington. Born in New Haven Feb. 2, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Giacomo & Victoria Carasone Lorusso. She worked for C. Cowles Co. in New Haven for several years prior to retirement. She is survived by a daughter, Donna McKean of Newington; 2 sons, John Bimonte of North Haven and Barry Bimonte of New Haven; 2 sisters, Philomena Esposito of Middletown & Dorothy Syniec of Chicopee, MA.; 5 grandchildren & 1 great grandchild. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, Mattie, Joseph & Donald Lorusso.

CURTIS, HERBERT

Herbert “Butterball” Curtis Jr., 79, of 51 Antrim St., West Haven, passed away May 11, 2008 in Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Carol Hopwood Curtis. Mr. Curtis was born in Badin, Stanly County, North Carolina Aug. 27, 1928, son of the late Herbert & Parthene Barringer Curtis. He worked as a machinist for Winchester Repeating Arms and US Repeating Arms for many years prior to retirement. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. At one time, he was a pitcher for the Kansas City Monarchs baseball team in the Negro Leagues. Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Herbert (Diane Harris) Curtis III & Levy Curtis, both of New Haven, Clarence McAlpine of San Diego; step sons, George Curry Jr. of New Haven, Donald Hopwood of West Haven & Tony Jones of Philadelphia; daughters, April Mabry, Sharon Moore & Stacey Byrd, all of New Haven; step daughter, Melody Rivera of New York City; sisters, Lucille Little & Lois Westbrook, both of Badin, N.C.; 31 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends. He was predeceased by a son, Miles Curtis and his first wife, Gloria Parker Curtis.
Funeral Services will be held in The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., cor. Dwight, New Haven Thursday at 11:00 AM. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM. Interment, with Military Honors, in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Adeline Piombino Iannucci, 98, of 22 Masonic Ave., Wallingford, passed away May 8, 2008 in Masonic Health Care Center. She was the widow of Joseph F. Iannucci and was a former resident of Palmieri Ave., New Haven. Mrs. Iannucci was born in Pt. Morris, N.J. Aug 22, 1909, daughter of the late Frank & Maria Piombino. She is survived by 2 daughters, Elaine (Joseph) McCurry of Plantsville and Harriet Gallagher of North Ridgefield, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, Judith Travers of West Hartford, Kevin McCurry of Winchester, MA., Lee Ann Sumislawski of Avon, Ohio & Sharon Angradi of Ellicot City, MD.; and 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 5 brothers, Ernest, Arthur, Albert J., John & Edward Piombino and a sister, Katherine Albertini.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in the Chuirch of the Most Holy Trinity, 68 No. Colony St., Wallingford Monday morning at 10:30. Interment in All Saints Cemetery. Gabriel Anthony (Hollywood) Suscietto, 80, of 25 Hard St., New Haven, died May 7, 2008 in Middlesex Hospice. Born in New Haven March 15, 1928, he was the son of the late Gabriele & Carmela Giannelli Suscietto. He worked as a construction superintendent for many years, most recently for Tandy & Associates, and was a member of Carpenters Union, Local 24. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by a son, Gabriel Anthony Suscietto III of Winsted; 3 daughters, Adrian Martone of New Haven, Antonia Lee Dondero of Portland, CT. & Marieanne Suscietto Dambrov of Springfield, MA.; 2 sisters, Mary Hardy of East Haven & Margaret Paolini of Orange; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and his former wife, Claudette Arel Suscietto of West Haven. He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Lee Suscietto, 3 brothers, Pasquale, Ralph & Stephen Suscietto and 3 sisters, Maria, Gilda & Antoinette Suscietto. His children were fortunate to have had him as their dad and will forever cherish all their precious memories.

DUDA, ROBERT W.

Robert W. Duda, 81, of 93 Marvel Road, New Haven died in USVA Medical Center, West Haven May 6, 2008. He was the husband of Pauline Gagnon Duda. Mr. Duda was born in Manchester, N.H. Nov. 22, 1926, son of the late Walter J. & Lillian McGettigan Duda. He earned a master’s degree and worked as a guidance counselor in the New Haven School System from 1968 until his retirement in 1984. Prior to that, he worked for Community Progress, Inc. (CPI). He was a member of San Salvador Council No. 1, Knights of Columbus and the New Haven Chapter of the National Education Association. He was an active volunteer at the Hospital of St. Raphael and Fellowship Place. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a dedicated educator, counselor, family man & friend, and was committed to bettering the lives of disadvantaged children. He took great enjoyment in the company of his family & friends. He was a devoted husband and a hero to his children & grandchildren. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael R. (Lynn) Duda of Trumbull; 2 daughters, Amy E. Duda of New Haven & Anya Duda of West Haven; 2 sisters, Catherine Polinsky of Manchester, N.H. & Joan Duda of Ipswich, MA.; and 3 grandchildren, Amanda, Hannah & Jack. He was predeceased by a sister, Marion Bolos.
